  1. For the most part, greenminer, I agree with you. Yet when the link below shows that the North Texas/DFW Metroplex with its (right at) 7,000,000 citizens is (as a 5 county metro area) larger than 40 other states alone, I agree with you that some conference will definitely want a foothold in this area. http://en.wikipedia....s_by_population GMG!
  2. Check out the 3 schools located in the #5 ranked TV market in link below for GMG.com members and many of you outsiders from other schools who visit (or lurk) this forum regularly to see what's going on here; and at times, even click in a few red numbers, too (don't disappoint me now, especially you, Hogdog) It is what it is in Denton, Texas, America....North Texas has nothing to hide or conceal in any form or fashion. Obviously, we are not Notre Dame, but we are also not some dreg of NCAA FBS society with 2'nd rate on campus facilities located in some low ranked U.S. TV market, either. I think some league will still want its teams to visit the North Texas Metroplex every other year in due time. To the first who calls (CUSA or MWC) comes the spoils (or for their respective TV conference packages an advertiser's gold mine) plus.......with a large public Texas university with an across the board constituency to deliver good Nielsen ratings as UNT has proven in the past). Here Is That Link: http://en.wikipedia....ollege_football GMG!
  3. Last time we played UH in the Astrodome were you one of the pushers back then; that is, pusher of the amplifier carts.
  4. MGT, the NCAA has its own secret formula of how schools pull in a large TV market and they use that new math as part of their formula; you know, where much larger schools with much larger constituencies apparently have no TV sets among any of their enormous numbers so discount them out of any AQ league possibilities, yet the smaller school constits' apparently all have 10 TV's per household among their alums (counting the maids and butlers) so when the Nielsen ratings folks come a-callin to poll for their ratings well, you know the rest of how all that works, right? It's really elementary with the NCAA powers that be with their large TV market formula as they determine which schools are worthy of becoming AQ conference ready. The school from which the first Heismann Trophy came, ie, the University of Chicago should resurrect their football program as that small private school would immediately rise to the top of AQ league candidates in today's NCAA. GMG!
  5. Talk about a wheels off Big 12....and to think this will all take place again in 2 more years (or less). Why doesn't the NCAA let each of the 120 (?) schools be an Independent and just do their own damn thing?
  6. One of the greatest things many of us love about Latinas is their great, deep passion for love; but the opposite of that is their well known jealousy which many times rages out of control among their race of which most of them admit is a weakness; hence, the widow part means--may her beloved late husband rest in peace (rather than resting,ie, hiding behind the hedges wondering what his ex wife is up to and with who)? Quoner, that's about it in a nutshell. Zorro!
  7. I predicted 6-8 mos ago we would not sell out Apogee for the UH game and I reluctantly predict now that we will have a hard time reaching 20K att. average unless.....we are still on the bowl hunt last 2 games then........the prediction on the 20K part is out the window. If we had had the pedestrian bridge over the interstate in place this year I think we could have sold out Apogee for the UH game. That bridge over I-35E from Fouts to Apogee is going to do more for us than I think most realize. GMG!
  8. Looking at the distance from student section to football field these kids jump, if some of us over age of 50 jumped we'd break a hip, ankle, leg or neck. If a student comes down at that distance on the wrong foot or at a bad angle they will get a bone break or a very bad sprain. Why don't the stadium attendants just let them come down the steps instead?
  9. Beggin' your pardon, but your first draft post did not have a link. Just sayin... There is so much going viral on re-alignment I just merely wanted to see a link source, that's all. GMG!
  10. Is there an ESPN link on this, too?
  11. No, North Texas and Louisville should lead the way in reforming the old Missouri Valley Conference as it was right before Fry arrived in Denton. What a collection of schools of whom most took the high road and climbed up the NCAA totem pole. GMG! PS: Now Louisville can feel some of our pain (but at a different level, of course) GMG!
  12. I know, "if if's and buts".....but what if we had last years seniors mixed with this years fine young talent? Then..........Coaches Mac, Chico & the rest would have coached this year's SBC champion IMO. Who knows how this plays out this season, though. GMG!
  13. I like fat girls. One particular Latina from northside Fort Worth. She's a fat'esque angel. And she's a widow which is the only kind of latina girl I will ever feel safe dating (if you know what I mean, Vern). AND.......... Bumpity doo-dah, bumpity day, even more North Texas votes will make our day. (to tune of Disney's "zippity doo.....oh hell you know the rest). http://ncaabbs.com/s....php?tid=525014 If you don't vote , you will have a pimple rise in a most surprising place by midnight tonight. GMG!
  14. No, just their populations was all. I think last count NO's counted a very liberal approx. 400K inside their city limits. OK, Here Is One Denton and NO's comparison: Denton's streets are mostly dry most the time whereas NO's Bourbon Street are wet 24/7 from being hosed down for all the vomit and urine people come to NO's to expell as they act in that city in a way they would not from the city of whence they came. San Francisco and Honolulu are my 2 favorite destination U.S cities and I even lived in Honolulu at one time. Tulane? Seems they may eventually be another private school that could get a pass to an AQ conference with their "slightly exagerated" attendance counting of this a former SEC school that are as blatantly attrocious as another Methodist-sponsored school not foo far from Denton, Texas, America. These NCAA AQ conference einsteins need to consult with some of us on GMG.com on which schools out there are truly being deceptive ie, faking it (and have for decades) compared to some schools in similar major metro areas whose upside is 50 to 1 better than some of the privates. PAY US FOR OUR INFORMATION, PLEASE: Whadda' think? $100K for "OUR" GMG.com consortium consultant fee to give them a thoroughly researched & detailed infomation packet on which schools to pick........... plus a power point presentation would be all it took? We can do this and do it well. GMG!
  15. I would holler out a few "HELLSELLS!" bombs and say: Hey Greeks! Just go ahead & transfer to UTA where on Game Day you would have the 50 yard line of their Maverick Stadium to yourselves to set up tent & letters but no one in the stands to notice you and your drunk-fest since they don't have a FREAKIN' football team for you to FREAKIN' ignore! Too harsh you say? You can't lose what you don't have. Good thread, E01, darn it, good thread! GMG!!
  16. Of course, I was just kidding. Hope all is well in (from "1941") "Horry'wood!" I just love that submarine scene with Slim Pickens and the Japanese. Late..
  17. When I think of West Virginia I think of Loretta Lynn, Coal Miners Daughter, Sissy Spacek (who played Loretta Lynn) Tommy Lee Jones (who played the hubby) and one helluva bad disease that comes from coal mines. Sorry,I just don't think of WVU football. What this is all about with me is the far flung nature of these AQ conferences. My 2 cents if allowed to express it is that the NCAA AQ presidents are trying their dead level best to fix something that flat out ain't broke. I can hit the red button , too, C-O-U-R-T-L-A-N-D.
  18. More about Coach T and WVU rather than North Texas. All the assuming this and assuming that from other regions 1,000 miles away from DFW is what got smu in the big east because there was obviously no research or resume ' checking on a progarm with 2-3 winning seasons in 25 years is it now? I've never even said we were AQ prime time ready because we are not (unless you go by some other unusual entrance standards the Big East has used to fill in their little cookie cutter conference with TV markets "they assume" any school located in said market is their goat ropin' son-of-a-gun TV drawing stalwart. As I recall from the past on this board, when the subject of TV markets comes up it does seem to tweak one of your nerve-endings, greenminer. Amazing how on these message boards there are so many schools of thought on a variety of subjects that some even might even disagree on from time to time w/o getting a tad all bent out of shape about it, either.
  19. Bump.....MG Nation Stand Tall!
  20. Tuberville: "West Virginia's going to be great. It's just the distance and travel is going to be different for everybody and just being able to get there and for fans to get in and out. But it's a great school a lot of tradition …" OK, Coach T, for the rest of most of us Texans, tell us what those WVU traditions are? And Coach T's coments on Tulane: " ...San Diego State is doing pretty good. Tulane is not, but they’ve got the Superdome, they’ve got New Orleans for people to go in and out. I think you look at things like that and TV markets.” (Hey Coach T, Denton County has more population than the city of New Orleans and with a pretty damn large Texas public university located in said county, too). Someone please tell me how the NCAA truly determines TV markets and how small private universities of whom most of the citizens of the cities they are located could not afford (nor their kids) become the stalwarts of their respective TV markets? Does a school with an alumnus body of 100,000 of said TV market pull in less ratings than a school with 35-40,000 alums in the same area? What new math is the NCAA using to make the latter 35-40K alums "the school" that pulls in a TV market? If Dallas Baptist U had football and were in the Big East would that bring in the DFW TV market, too? I think the NCAA powers that be are loaded with ex football players who played too much football w/o their helmets on and it affected the math part of their brains is what I think. GMG!
  21. As SUMG reminded me Saturday how drex back in the day let all the frats paint their logos into the concrete at Fouts and that area was where they sat. It was a good idea that worked. Certainly, we cannot do that at Apogee but what about an investment of chairbacks for each frat (in their frat colors) which can be placed in the upper Student Section a few hours before the game whiich would be "their" spot for the game. Any other ideas?
  22. I think university offials need to have a real "come to Jesus" talk with the the frat and sorority council and both to try to come to some understanding as to what the university and athletic dept. officials would like Game Days at the Mean Green Village to actually be .....Game Day inside Apogee Stadium. If its recogntion these groups want they can get plenty of it inside the stadium as participants, especially at Homecoming games when they used to be an integral part of the crowd back in the day. Like I heard one alum on Saturday who said: "UNT tailgating has become an unexpected monster for the many who don't come inside the stadium for the game." GMG! Side Note: Isn't it amazing how so few architectural renderings actually look like the final product?
  23. I think all this latest re-alignment musical chairs is just organized chaos and another step by the Big Boys to further separate the wheat from the chafe. They know what they are doing with all this. Initially, I think they want to get all this down to 80 schools; then 60 schools; then who the heck knows. I hope we have not waited too late on building this stadium and expressing what our intentions & aspirations are with that stadium. In fact, has that even been expressed by our administration and if so....when? All this going on in the NCAA just makes me sick truth be known. GMG!
  24. Annoy a college or conference HSO's/smack board? They are all about opinions and (for some) educating those who don't know a damn thing about UNT. When you have a feeling such information is not (or has not) come from our campus then how the hell they going to know anything about North Texas? I think we should keep in mind that other schools have done the same things for years. SMU made it clear thru all forms of the media weeks ago of their interest in the Big 12. Then you see a bunch of SMU fans with posters pushing for Big 12 admittance in the backgrounds of an ESPN Game Day pre-game and now you have that enormous producer of the North Texas Metroplex TV market soon to be in the AQ Big East? They beat their own drum because no one else was going to do it. You are right, over-kill can be a bad thing (even "maybe" on a college conference smack board), but in my 38 years as a Mean Green fan we have not been known to over-kill anything that could benefit us conference-wise as to actually move up in one; rather than what we've gotten instead. .02 worth of opinion like everyone elses. As posted in the first post of this thread....all just for fun since these are not scientific polls. http://ncaabbs.com/s....php?tid=525014 GMG!
  25. Thank you for expressing that. A seemed problem at North Texas is we want to be overly kind to all the NCAA legacy-poor schools, ie, those soon to be or just up a classification and even that attitude in the SBC early days. Then we wonder why those very schools (most of us knew nothing about before our 1-AA days) as we have some of our elect who still clamor to put on our level and........... just to watch some of those very schools slide right past us . UL-Monroe? A great win but why is the embarrassingly low athletic budget school even on the same playing field as North Texas with Texas talent that should have stayed in Texas? Before we of UNT give the shirts off our backs to some of these schools, lets make sure we have shirts on ourselves. (Yes, I know many of us think Apogee Stadium will soon be a great clothier for MG football). Like it or not, we are now recruiting against UTSA and TSU-SM as we post as I'm sure Old Fan will soon let us all know in his upcoming UNT recruiting research. But what about SMU post SWC implosion--What's the difference here? My (and others) thing with SMU is (mostly) totally unrelated to the scenario above, though; but rather why they just keep getting passes at every turn, ie, for any AQ conference consideration based on crowd photos (or TV camera shots) of empty seats for said proof, but then the DMN Sunday AM boxscore indicates attendance numbers much, much rosier (and have for decades). Other fans from around the Southwest apparently feel the same after reading some of their boards. Enough of smu, I don't want to even think of their subtle concealment of the reality of their situation--the Big East just got zoomed by some snake oil salesman............... probably New York based ESPN/ex SMU'er (now broadaster) Craig James as the lead man for that project. Also, at no time have I or others ever posted that North Texas was ready for AQ conference Prime Time (either) but gol' darn it, neither are our fine Methodist friends of University Park, Texas, as more and more on many other collegiate HSO's boards are saying the same thing. So in effect..........we are all.....just sayin'... GMG!
