  2. You will love your Apogee Experiece. I have to DJ a wedding tomorrow at Weatherford's Willow Lakes Gardens. Hell, I had everything ready and in order for that Game Day, too; my Army/Navy Store flack jacket, my entourage of bouncers and my battery operated megaphone where I had planned to sit under a an old Texas oak tree and spin some tall North Texas Mean Green tales while probably pissing off half the audience--hence the flack jacket and entourage. You can never be too prepared, you know.
  3. Yes, they have... You wonder where a win like this albeit Texas was not a power that year, but you wonder how the gods of football would have smiled on us had we won such a game here in the Lone Star State against a national school as UT. We lost a similar game as that with the Arkansas Razorbacks when they were ranked #2 in 1968 and you still have to wonder....how would have such a victory moved up our own schedule to move this program upward, to build a new stadum sooner and to be in a real legit BCS conference, ie, the SWC even if it did implode later. That SWC associatiion hasn't hurt some schools in the recent re-alignment for sure. I love the YouTube response below from some fan because it reminds of the time Ron Shanklin told me at Fort Worth's Dos Gringos one day that they got the same kind of response from Arkansas players who also knew that we had been screwed out of a win by the SWC refs. Our time has really come to catch a major break, folks. Hopefully, it will be a new conference. "....whether they sucked or not doesn't really matter. what does matter is that UNT got screwed over and should have won that game. my grandfather has the articles in which the Texas players verbily told us that UNT played their hearts out and that the call was one of the biggest mistakes they ever saw in their own career. basically to simplify it, we won and they knew it. SHADOWTANK2007 1 year ago GMG! PS: Such a UH Coog win over Duffy Daugherty's Michigan State Spartans in 1967 sent UH up to the next level of the NCAA with a new national reputation. It really only just takes "one" win for some programs. [url="
  4. ...beat em' in every way except the scoreboard. Is this one of the Top 10 homer calls of all time? Those of us in the stadium that night felt like someone had hit us all in the stomach with an aluminum bat. PING! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPcZN6adx7U
  5. WHAT DO PEOPLE THINK OF ANYONE? WHY IS THERE AIR THAT SOME BREATHE MORE OF THAN OTHERS? WHY DO SOME PEOPLE'S BODY PERSPIRATION SMELL WORSE THAN OTHERS? WHY DO RATTLE SNAKES GET SUCH A BAD RAP? PITT BULLS, TOO? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY CAN'T EVERYONE ON THIS BOARD BE STEPFORD-POSTERS AND JUST AGREE ON EVERYTHING POSTED? WHY DO SOME TRY HARD TO DIFFUSE THE WAY THINGS ARE AND THE WAY THINGS HAVE BEEN W/O GETTING THEIR LITTLE APPLE GREEN PANTIES IN A WAD? ROD, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE TO SAY TO NORTH TEXANS EVERYWHERE WHO ARE PART OF: THE GREENLIGHT ZONE? http://www.youtube.c...h?v=-b5aW08ivHU
  6. Basketball is not my main sport, but Coach Jones will take this talent far into March Madness when they jell; whether it be this year or next. One UH friend has confirmed that to me so I'll got with what that ol' Coog has to say. What part of December does our future NBA'er start playing? I think he would have made the difference last night which could be the no-brainer statement of the year. Wish we could play the RRaider's once Tony M. is on the court.
  7. Agree, TFLF, a good hire on the Lobo's part. I think Bob Davies was also an assistant at TAMU if memory serves me well so Texas won't be a strange recruiting ground for him (as if it is for anyone in the known universe).. He will probably give Texas Tech a run for their money on a few recruits out west. I also like the "our future MWC-mate" part too.
  8. Oh yes! 3 for for a buck & some change at Subway, too!
  9. You know I think I am going to lose one of my all time goals in life now and that is......TO BE THE MOST POPULAR POSTER ON WWW.GOMEANGREEN.COM. I know, if things like this dont' killl you they make you a stronger, better person. Pardon me, I have to go outside and feed 3 of the finest quarter horses in the state of Texas. Yall may continue without me. I think I can handle the criticism but I'll let a few of you know when anything pertaining to my toy section, ie, North Texas just starts making me lose some sleep. GMG! ADDENDUM ON A THURSDAY: BTW, I have received several PM's of approval with everything I said in that post but they, too, have been around this awhile and know where I'm coming from unlike some who better hope that in their next 25 years they are not saying this: "You know, I remember when North Texas was at the same level as UT-San Antonio now look how far up the NCAA totem pole they've gone but moreso...............look at us in our 10'th branding campaign in as many years still trying to find our identity and just plain ol' doing the same damn things here in the Sun Belt except the only difference the stadium we're doing these same ol' things in and (still projecting).....yall getting excited about that SBC classic with McNeese State this Saturday? Yet with some on this opinion board where you're really apparently not supposed to say how you really feel unless it aligns with a few of their own opinions' Anyhow (I suppose) with a handful on GMG.com its still another generational thang' at work here. I seem to have that happen on this board quite often. I will still have to very gingerly deal with that, too, but dammit, I just hate it when I'm right about North Texas most of the time! It just drives me crazy................................
  10. North Texas='sToy Section of Dept. Store of Life? Sue me, I like to play with my toys. I call BS with your BS. Give it 40 years and you'll see what some of us are talking about.
  11. First of all, you take care of your backyard and I'll take care of mine. I really don't need you telling me how I need to act for starters. Who are you, the Emily Post of North Texas? Well, I know many more than myself thru the years who need to catch up on that than myself. Red numbers? Bring em' on! I don't give a rat$ A$--never have. North Texas has had too many dumb sheep following the wrong (bad) leadership for way too long as in............most of my adult life? If our modus operendi had been the other way, North Texas wouldn't be up against upstart program UTSA in some of this conference smack board tommyrot! There! I said it! Many others have for damn sure thought it. I am not running for Mayor of U of North Texas so I could care less if I get "votes or no votes" on any post, especially on a freakin' college smack board of all places. North Texas athletics is still the toy section of the department store of my life and I'd suggest you accept that same philosophy because if you don't, you will probably only be disappointed because we could very well be running in place the next 25 years as we have most of the last 25 years while being totally irrevelant (as was mentioned in the DRC recently). Shit, look at UTSA getting as much print space as we are on some of those other message boards--so does that tell you the impact our athletic program which has moslty been slobber-knockin' toward the bottom most my damn life--I am not happy about that, either. IMHO it seems you are still taking all this smack sports boards business way too damn serious. For what its worth, I am more worried about what Greece and Italy are going to do with their Euro-Economies and then how America is going to respond to it--now that's the kind of stuff that gets my attention. I will be 61 years old this month, I've been following a program that most of my adult life has been a running joke. Hirings have been mostly abysmal and the firings of under-achieving slackers have been rare. Many my age & up (who are still around) have seen other programs after programs pass us by while North Texas continually "ran in place" while trying to find its identity, the perfect logo, the perfect branding along with the perfect shade of green (with many slackers on the payroll getting paid rather nicely who could have really just cared less but merely wanted to hang on to get that State of Texas retirement). North Texas during the last 4 decades has been a program of which the word "potential" has all but become an ugly word for many of us. Yet if I have an opinion I'm going to by God express it no matter where the hell I want to express it. Beggin' your pardon, but you sound just like some in Washington who are trying to tell Americans how they are supposed to act, how they are supposed to believe, how they are supposed to eat, how they are supposed to take a shit and they also don't mind if you express an opinion as long as it is their opinion--let's see how long that last. Have A Nice Day.
  12. Yeah, that is me but we've been a laughing stock for most of the last 15-25 years prior to this one no matter what is posted on a collegiate smack board. If SMU with the crap I've read on their board can get a Big East invite, then I like our chances for CUSA or the MWC. Yet if you think smack board posters have any influence in any of this then why aren't North Texas athletic employees posting on this one--even just time to time? I take a smack board for what it is: An online cyber trip to a bar with a bunch of athletic boosters from various schools who sometimes act is if they have had one too many. Nothing I posts compares to the unadulterated lagniape you get from SMU or La Tech posters. I don't think the Big East officials read the SMU board then suddenly decided: "Yep! We just have to include those Stangs in the Big East no matter what an entire host of schools say about their fake attendace." Yes, I have a pissing contest going on with a couple of TCU fans and I don't even pay attention to the California contingency because they post as if they just graduated from middle school. Yet TCU really does not want North Texas to take their place in the MWC and for what it's worth, I don't blame them. Their Big 12 experiment could turn out to be as disastrous as Baylors has been and a successful North Texas in the MWC would trump a terrible TCU football program in the Big 12--simple as that. Nopers, conference decision-making on admitting new league members will not come from a college or conference smack board. Mark that in 3 inch headlines because that is a fact. HINT: ESPN is mostly in charge of the NCAA and just about every thing relating to conference expansion--not conference message boards. We have to hope and even pray that ESPN likes what we are doing in Denton even without Craig James up there in New York's ESPN headquarters to brag about us--seems he probably did his persuasive handywork for another school truth be known.
  13. Happy Birthday, Evan! One of the 3 top rated brat-meisters at Texas tailgates--with assistance from Harry, of course.
  14. Since I seem to be in the early onset of dimensia, J.R.can you refresh my memory on what that curse was? One of the MWC boards most critical SDSU posters (from CA.) aimed at North Texas was a frequent visitor over here last year about this very time and as I recall pitching for another coach to get our HFC's job. The MWC better strike while the iron is hot if they want the DFW Metroplex in their conference TV package footprint and looking at their future prospects after schools they will lose now and probably later, I would love to know just what they are thinking their choices really are and why their delay in solving their membershp concerns now. Most know TCU would prefer that North Texas not take their place in the MWC because they probably know that a winning UNT in the MWC might offf-set a losing TCU in the Big 12 and lest anyone forgets the Frogs did not fare too well the last time they were in another conference with as many large public universities with far more impressive (and much larger) athletic venues. It took Baylor more than 10 years to get out of the Big 12 cellar and as I recall they stilll hover in the lower half of that league even now. And just who won the TCU/Baylor season opener of this Fall? GMG!
  15. It would be a first if this idea were truly taken from GMG.com because can you count on one hand how many others there were the last 15 years? GMG!
  16. OK Mr. outoftown, we get it...you do not think North Texas will receive a bowl bid. Just one more post on that subject by you would confirm it. Most on this board see 4, 5 or 6 wins as reason to believe the Dan McCarney Era is off on more than just a good foot; and that after years of extremely imbalanced recruiting classes of which the 5 (TDodge) classses prior to DMac's arrival were weighted down with way too many RB's, WR's and DB's recruits along with Coach Dickey's last 2 classes which were no where close to his 2'nd & 3'rd recruiting classes which (as I recall) were quite good. A record of 6 & 6 for a bowl game? Never say never or that it "can't be done" because (albeit) in another era a Hayden Fry coached team over in Dallas went to a bowl game with 4 wins plus...North Texas has proven to many at ESPN that it can travel quite well with thousands of Mean Green fans while some schools will bring "hundreds of fans" (U of Cincy' for one) so don't think that that won't figure into some of this since ESPN is also running the show on most all things relating to who gets invited to bowl games, too; even with a log jam of 6 and 6 teams to boot. GMG!
  17. Who does WKU play in their last game of the SBC season after their North Texas game? Anyone know? GMG!
  18. Someone is thinking outside the box at North Texas and we all applaud them. Maybe a team photo with all our football players wearing the glasses for the front top page of an NT Daily on or before Thursday?. And what terrific timing for a promotion I'm sure has been planned for awhile. Now hope that as many of our student body as possible are aware of this promotion. What a Game Day student section photo opp, too, right Cerebus? GMG!
  19. A school that has 100,000 alums (and growing ) and the same school that has the largest enrollment in DFW would tend to "have the DFW market" as much as anyone else around here IMHO. I wish the NCAA would define what having a TV market really entails because I think they might say "the number of TV sets a schools' local constituency would have" is as close to the top of that criteria list as anything else. It's not the local network DFW sports news people we have to impress to have said market, its the Nielsen Ratings folks that can determine what part of this market we really do have have compared to some of these little churchy schools who in past decades when they have been on a string of multi-season losing streaks have had some extremely dire attendance problems of their own. Just sayin'... GMG!
  20. Great win! Just got in from DJ'ing an evening wedding & reception and had to turn the MGRN off when we captured a fumble at their 6(?) and went in for a touchdown for I believe was a 10 or 12 point lead at that point. I was surprised with how the final score was as close. As far as coverage, our last 7 years prior to a 4 win season (thus far) has done that to us. Best DFW coverage I ever saw North Texas get was the year we won games and had good attendance and that was the year we regained our NCAA D1-A status. I mean we were the talk of the Metroplex and most all 3 major DFW networks had their cameras in Denton that Fall for many games. Keep in mind the economy has minimized the number of TV beat sports reporters they can send out to collegiate outposts as it has done the same to newspapers sports beat reporters. Look how thin the DMN and FWST are compared to how they used to be. Wins + Good Attendance ="s Good DFW TV Coverage
  21. Perception... "It's not what you are it's what people think you are." (Joseph P. Kennedy quote to his sons John and Bobby). The MWC or CUSA provides for North Texas now what the SBC will not provide for another 10 years--positive perception and a chance for Top 25 votes....IMO. You beat the top ranked team in the MWC or CUSA and you will have a chance to get some Top 25 votes. You beat the top ranked team in the 'Belt and you still get a non-ranked bowl team in the future. GMG!
  22. Coach McCarney understands that no matter how many DB's and WR's you recruit, most are still not going to grow into 6'6" 300 pound linemen. Guess its that BCS Head Football Coaching experience and background coming to fruition at North Texas. slowly but surely. GMG!
  23. And just which DFW TV station picked up the SBC TV network for our Troy game this Saturday at high noon? (Pleazzzzzzzzzzzzzzz CUSA or MWC)! GMG!
  24. Now wait just a gol' darn minute! (insert my Yosemite Sam voice). Actually, I "borrowed" the Baylor Stadium link from the University of Houston football section and have seen the same link on at least 2 other Texas-based university smack board's football sections as well. Moderator, ie, The Tasty Greek or Harry can yank this thread off this board anytime because that would not hurt my feelings one iota; matter of fact, very few things that happen in this toy section of the department store we call life can hurt any feelings or get my undies' in a wad. It really shouldn't anyone elses for that matter. Just sayin'... GMG!
