I just wub' SMU!  (No, you don't PMG! What the hell's wrong with you? Remember the CONSPIRACY theories "I " kept putting in your head all those decades)? Take your hip-hop "wub SMU" talk elsewhere, bud'! COMPRENDE?!?" (Lucifer) \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\////////////////////////////\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\//////////////////////////////////\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ We'll all be AQ by 2013 or 2014 according to media types, SMU will have one helluva' eastern based travel schedule and another local rivalry (There! I Said It-- the "R" word); anyhow, another local game that has most always drawn good crowds is not a bad idea; maybe not every year but more often than has ever happened in the history of this series. It's a new era in today's NCAA and probably time to develop some new attitudes (starting with me toward the top of that list). GMG!

ESPN Reporting Memphis to Big East
PlummMeanGreen replied to GreenN'walinsVet's topic in Mean Green Football
Not that surprised with this but moreso the timing of just how long it took the Big East to add Louisville's biggest rivalry albeit now appears as if the UL Cardinals may soon enough go to the Big 12. Folks, if this doesn't knock the doors wide open for UNT to get a CUSA invite, then I have no hint of an idea as to what it will take; maybe some major changes from within at UNT in some personnel and a major philosophy, scheduling and marketing 180 degree turns, too? QB Scotty Young considering North Texas
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I am trying to keep my excitement in check and to a low ebb over this possibility but... Scotty, you will not find any school out there where you would be more appreciated than at the University of North Texas as we would all look forward to seeing a favorite son of Denton tossing those highly accurate 'taters for TD's at our Apogee Stadium! OK, I took the meds and I'm fine now. GMG! -
...doesn't mean anything anymore," Huffman said http://latimesblogs....ay-for-cal.html Not just for North Texas, but there just seemed to have been more commitment flipping even nationally. I'm sure there have been recruiting cycles thats had all this before, but it doesn't seem like to this extent for quite a few years. Just sayin'... GMG!

Agree... Some of our Vito-bashers have way too much time on their hands to let one beat writer get their undies in such a wad. Hey, he is "one" beat reporter with the D/RC now a subsidiary of the Belo Corp (of Dallas Morning News fame). Apogee Stadium? As much as I love this college football stadium and as much as I have praised the famous (Gil Brandt, Chuck Neinas, ESPN/UNT alum Dave Barnett, Mean Joe Greene, etc) who have praised our Taj Mahal of a football stadium, I too, never thought Apogee Stadium alone would be our miracle drug. Fact is, Apogee Stadium had to happen very soon or we would have really been down Shit River w/o a paddle. It's here now but those 7 losing seasons still put a cloud over her and I predicted a year before Apogee's debut that we would not sell out that first game. Folks, if we don't have the machinery on campus to even give free tickets away such as was exhibited for the MUTS game then what made anyone think they would get out there and do what was necessary to sellout the first game? In fact, take the UH fans out of our stadium's debut game and then you see just how hard those on campus of whom this is part of their job description worked last Summer in selling tickets to the masses of Denton, Denton County & beyond. This program is never going to be one of those "just add water and watch it grow" kind of programs. It will always have to be cultivated daily for it to expand or grow. In fact, every home game in any kind of year (winning or losing) must be promoted as if some jobs depended on it. GMG! Monday PM Addendum: I'm with you GrayEagle on the Denton Chamber of Commerce repeating their "all summer" effort and because of their focussed efforts brought out a record-setting crowd for a Baylor game at Fouts back in the day. In fact, had the UNT athletic dept. merely gone back to their think tank and simply come up with the question at their round table meeting of "what promotion helped us put the most fans into Fouts Field," maybe they would have gone back to the Denton C of C well one more time and had it been for the Apogee Stadium debut, we would have more than likely had SRO for the Unversity of Houston game.

Arlington and UTA....working together
PlummMeanGreen replied to SilverEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
God help those at UNT if that ever happened, SilverEagle. Not too impressed now that Texas St-SM is about $10M ahead of us in endowment coffers. What do we do at North Texas, just wait for people with the big bucks to come down from the heavens above? -
Bump....(and wholeheartedly agree). Our 2012 schedule is really screwed up. I'd be happy with some of our old Fouts Field foes from yester-year scheduled at Apogee Stadium quite frankly such as the following: ........Kansas State: Come on, Coach Snyder, another game in Denton Baylor (with a win over the Bears at Fouts) .......TCU (fun game that seemedly was not as close as the scoreboard indicated) Oregon State (a PAC-12 school that we beat at Fouts), .......Vanderbilt (yes, an SEC'er at Fouts) Navy (the Middies in attendance, the 3 jets pre-game fly-over providing the goose bumps and all and one heckuka' football game during the TDodge era. Navy's win over us that day made them bowl elgible as I recall) .......Memphis/Lousiville (oh yes, a few years ago--Fry's last game he coached at UNT was at Fouts with a Memphis win on a very frosty night) Tulsa (maybe once in my lifetime since I was in HS last time we beat them?) .......UAB (while they're still playing football) South Florida (talk about an upstart who moved up the chain quickly) ...... Florida State (yes, Bobby Bowden's team in the snow at Fouts Field--the snow with orange highway cones to marke the yard lines made the national news that evening and on NBC I think) Addendum: We already have SMU with 4 upcoming home and home games. GMG!

Cedric Hardman will one day be in the NFL Hall of Fame. With numbers like you've researched and posted SilverE, who could build a case to keep him out for heaven's sake? A word from Mean Joe Greene to the NFL/HOF selection committee probably would not hurt at all and I wonder if anyone from UNT has ever thought of that albeit all this from a different era in Mean Green Country? Politics, follks, its about politics and North Texas has never mastered that fine art in my lifetime. Casepoint: Look at some school (s) getting into conferences they have not earned the right to be part of but are now members because they just had better and more effective politicians or school leaders pleading their case. Politics? Fry could get a good schedule because of who he knew from his SMU years and all he had to do was just pick up a phone and make the call. We can all only dream if he would have had an Apogee Stadium during his tenure in Denton where we would be today on the NCAA totem pole but....that was yesterday and yesterday's gone. GMG!

Big man on campus: Boone Feldt signs with North Texas
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Do we have another freshman who will start with Boone Feldt? Can't remember which one, but one servcice has him ranked as the 10'th best center in the USA. GMG! -
This thread headline directed to those in the "projected" Alliance (CUSA/MWC) who refuse to accept the fact that North Texas does have penetration in the sports media market of the DFW Metroplex. You think with 209,000 North Texas Exes in the Metroplex that maybe DFW media outlets see a market for themselves, too? Coach McCarney's "Fry-esque" football program which will soon have his own signature on it will get many of that number at Apogee Stadium, too. In fact, when some make their first visit to Apogee and have "the experience" they will be helplessly hooked on both team and stadium. Thanks to FWST sports-writer John Henry and the Fort Worth Star Telegram! You are back on my daily purchase budget once again! Start planning your 2012 Christmas Carnival Caribbean cruise now because of it, too! LOL! GMG!

North Texas Rivals List With A Most Interesting Fact
PlummMeanGreen replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
And my big fat arse will be at Apogee when I'm not hippity-hoppity'n a DJ gig (of which I was with a Bride & Groom-to-be just last night "with laptop" in a meeting of which I got a booking). Yes, I guess I am a bookie, too. Comprende? http://www.youtube.c...h?v=Pp-YPWnGmLg GMG! -
http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/commitments/2012/northtexas-182 Check this list (again) and count the large numbers of Mean Green recruits who were 1/10'th of a point away from being a 3 star Rivals recruit. One might ask the question: Will that 1/10'th of a point really make so much a difference from being a 2 star as compared to being a 3 star? We might all agree that those stars never predict how much heart a kid will have which might make him a 4 star college football player or how a star will predict how that player will be off season in the weight room or how astute said kid will be in watching video of the next opponent. We know there will be some who have no Rivals stars who will be future stars at North Texas and wouldn't we all love to see a national Rivals list from the past 10 years of that group who didn't make it big with the Rivals star system but who did make it big at the schools they signed with as All Conference or even higher awards players. Addendum: The part that no one from any of our competitors will read about were the 2 Mean Green Rivals 4 Star recruits who are on campus now and who will be starters next Fall if all goes well. Now we (like our coaches will all do) need to go into de-recruit mode with all those we've made future All Americans on all the various recruiting trails that led this fine group of young men to Mean Green Country. LaJaylin Smith discusses signing with North Texas
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Isn't the "hair challenged" interviewer the same one (now grown up) who used to carry "the" diet coke on the Mean Green sidelines from yester-year? Seriously...great to have you in Mean Green Country, LaJaylin Smith! You did quite OK in the interview, too. GMG! -

2012 UNT Football Signing Day LOI Fax Updates
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
We have the coach who took an Iowa State football program to 4 (or 5?) bowl games. We will win and Coach D-Mac will take his winning program to a higher level unseen in MG Country in awhile. Reminder: This is still only his 2'nd recruiting class. His hero and mentor Hayden Fry didn't go over .500 in wins until his 3'rd season at North Texas. Coach Dan McCarney will git'er done in "2" ! Put that in 3 inch headlines! GMG! -
DG, old news to most veteran posters here but new to newcomers who have recently joined GMG.com but back in the vaults of Mean Green football history, North Texas beat the University of Tennessee Volunteers with our 3'rd string QB back in the day. What may be even more interesting to some of our newcomers, too, is the fact that that was a UT Vols team that had won 6 games that season and would have been a bowl team in today's NCAA. This puts next year's recruiting of a QB in the "must do" department. GMG!

5 Reasons To Sign A Letter of Intent With North Texas
PlummMeanGreen replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Lest we all forget and as of now having no idea how many star'ed recruits from Rivals we will end up with tomorrow; but the one thing that always impressed me about Boise State's recruiting classes as they were building to becoming a BCS bowl buster kind of football program was just how their recruiting classes were highly, most notably and largely....unheralded or noticed by the national college sports media. (Anyone else think Boise State had football coaches who knew how to evaluate the very talent that Rivals Recruiting Service totally ignored)? GMG!
