  1. Very good, LongJim. (I thought you were going to be making a birth announcement). GMG!
  2. Priceless... (skip the ad) I recently lost one of my 2 special dog friends of which some of you are aware and it's like you lost a true family member (which many of our pets all but become). A British friend made me aware of the YouTube link) (Harry, if you want move this to other board do so but at times we all need some comic relief)
  3. The Alliance really missed out with a raising of the tide of its basketball fortunes when it lost Temple U to an already basketball rich Big East; of course, it also lost their huge TV market, too, which we all know by now is the engine pushing the expansion of the Big East and the Alliance. For certain, if North Texas gets in this Alliance, both MG football and basketball are going to have to take it to another level that being in the Sun Belt Conference never seemed to create such a similar urgency. When your in a league that many in the media seem to think is light years away from having ranked schools, I suppose you just compete at the level you're at and just aim for SBC success never-minding what is going on nationally. Boise State never had such an attitude even in the WAC. Similarly, TCU is going to have to up their on game another knotch that being in the Big 12 will make just as mandatory for the Horned Frogs. I think a UNT (if in the Alliance) will rise to the occasion--we really have no choice since there will be a focus from fellow Alliance schools for us to perform a la the Mean Joe Greene, Hayden Fry and multiple-New Orleans Bowl eras in Denton. So it would be very easy to say there will be much more pressures for us to succeed in a possible Alliance membership than there ever was in over a decade in the 'Belt or even in our previous history for that matter. Just saying'.... We are getting some love now from many in CUSA...here is just one MinerInWisconsin All American Posts: 2,968 Joined: Apr 2004 Reputation: 54 I Root For: UTEP, of course Location: The Frozen Tundra Post: #1If CUSA invites 1 from UNT, UTSA, Texas St Which one would you take? My personal choice if only one of those would be UNT. Market, facilities, recruiting, all looks good to me. I think the conference needs a presence in the DFW area. GMG!
  4. .....TEXAS!
  5. Next Year, Gang! For What Its Worth: Most Texas D1 school basketball teams were at home watching us tonight. GMG!

  6. SilverEagle , I agree with MeanGreenTexan...great idea ! And don't forget the Geezles in all this, too, right Mack Cope? I remember back when North Texas did some oral history recordings with WWII and Pearl Harbor vets. In fact, I've heard some of those orals on National Public Radio (NPR). Wish someone could sit down with Hayden Fry with a digital recording device pretty soon. I would love to hear Coach Fry talk in detail about that trip to Knoxville, Tennessee, with what many of us still think was our biggest all time college football win; especially since the Volunteers had 6 wins in 1975 which would have made them a bowl team in this present era. Also, there was a front page photo in either the Dallas Morning News or Dallas Times Herald of our team upon return to Love Field with a an enourmous number of Mean Gren fans waiting for our Mean Green heros. If it could be found, that photo would be a great addition for such a book, SilverEagle. The best time to go to press with such a book is when a top ranked North Texas Mean Green wins the entire Alliance championship, gets a BCS bowl for doing so and then wins that BCS bowl game . (Any time before that would do as well, of course). GMG!
  7. Congrats to Coach Johnny Jones and the Mean Green! We're all proud of ya'! GMG!
  8. And if you buy some "tooth" paste while in Arkansas, tell the sales clerk you want the kind for 32 teeth. Just jokin' Arkansas-ites. GMG!
  9. Hey! Howard Payne U ! I had some great teachers from your school down in the Houston area where I'm from. Teachers & Preachers, right? Welcome to the board & your cousin really looks good in the video. Hope to see him wearing mean green soon. GMG!
  10. Having been at the Grand Opening of the Houston Astrodome on April, 9,1965, was very inspirational (and among many highlights that evening was getting to see "the Mick" hit the first "dome run") but that is all I am going to say about domes for now. GMG! PS: "bez'ball has been veddy' good to me." (from SNL in the Early Years) Mean Green men's varsity baseball will happen.
  11. I think we're all conditioned to keep this kind of thing in check, but the prospects look promising and that alone can make one's pants go crazy; that is, unless Norah Jones suddenly showed up in one of Victoria Secret's best. (I'd say Fredericks of Hollywood but that would stretch things a bit too much). And on that thought I think will just go take my blood pressure meds. Lots of wub going on toward UNT from CUSAbbs board...(presently).
  12. I've asked for info on Rick, too, and am waiting to receive. Prayers for our friend, Rick Spears.
  13. Thanks, Mean Green 93-98! Changed.... Addendum: As posted I, too, will believe all this when it becomes official because in today's NCAA things can change (good or bad) in an instant. GMG!
  14. From M & G Board LINK: http://meanandgreen....l-forum-f3.html Good "Breaking News Out of Hot Springs" news from the above link if this comes to fruition. ______________________________ Again, that quote was made to one of our fans (who is most always reliable) by a SBC staffer and I'd say just take all that (from the staffer) for what it's worth and I personally won't believe "we're gone" until its official but to me this is just one more indicator that suggests that the Alliance wants the 5'th largest TV market back in its footprint and (obviously) the school that comes with that market. If you think about it, it's really a no-brainer for the Alliance inasmuch that we do have "a lot of history going in" as veteran NCAA/FAU Coach Howard Schnellenberger points out in the linked video below that I will re-post) and North Texas with a 40 year NCAA D-1 history (which began in the 1950's) which is also more than all other schools mentioned for this expansion. Of prime importance is North Texas' location in the U.S. #5 ranked TV market and with the DFW Metroplex market's largest student enrollment and alumnus constituency combo, ie, 37,000 student enrollment expected this Fall and 209,000 DFW NT Exes. If offered, we would also come in having some of the nicest athletic venues compared to many present Alliance members. UNT would hardly come into this consortium hat in hand by any measure. http://www.youtube.c...h?v=GzlvY65vvQI GMG!

  16. "Very visible from 35E." I love that one, Harry. Now that we've seen the architectural rendering, what will the real PB actually look like? GMG!
  17. The Denton Chamber of Commerce with many of its members ability to sell tickets helped us several years ago have one of our top all time home crowd attendance figures against the Big 12 Baylor Bears at our old venerable Fouts Field. This Fall week night game (10/16/12) on ESPN may need their help once again, but this time around with a game to be played in the confines of the fabulous Apogee Stadium. It's a time for Denton (and Denton County) to shine on national TV. (Not sure why we stopped using the assistance of the Denton C of C since that Baylor game years ago quite frankly). Anyone else remember how hot the Foufs Field parking lot was pre-Baylor game that particular year? Stifling and sultry maybe best describes it? GMG! PS By the way, I left the important part out: The North Texas Mean Green beat the Big 12 Baylor Bears that night in the sultry heat. I also think more than anything that happened that night were further hints from our venerable ol' Lady how she needed to retire very soon when the electricity went out in the Baylor dressing room during half time of that game. GMG ! !
  18. (interesting excerpts from an article in B's R 2 years ago) Play in a Weak Conference Whether you are trying to build your program or you are an existing, tradition-rich team, your first move should be to get involved in the weakest conference you can find. Be sure to avoid playing in a BCS—or "elite"—conference so you stand no chance of being beaten by much tougher competition than you will face in your chosen, pathetic conference. Head off complaints from other programs, experts and fans that you do not play anyone by making sure to schedule a game or two out of conference each season against teams from the elite ranks that are no better than middle-of-the-pack contenders or lower in the much stronger conferences. Do not forget to claim that no one wants to play you in an effort to deflect attention away from the fact that you will play 10 or 11 cupcake games the rest of the season. You might even consider going independent and playing whomever you want to week after week. Then the claim that your conference is weak would not apply, and you could simply default to saying no one will play you. When asked who is turning you down, stick to subterfuge and cloak-and-dagger tactics by saying that you will not name any specific programs "out of respect" for those teams. Do not, under any circumstances, schedule a larger number of "elite" teams than necessary (one) to "legitimize" your competition level. This could result in more losses than intended and keep you out of the big game. For reference, see Notre Dame. Undefeated Is Undefeated After following step one, it is likely that people will begin to point out that you are only playing "Pop Warner" teams every game. Laugh them all off and point out that you played Louisville or Oregon State (i.e. middle-of-the-pack contenders or lower) in Week 3 of the season, and that should more than make up for playing teams that amount to no more than New Mexico State the other 11 games. If this excuse does not work, remember to claim no one will play you. This is your mantra. Never forget it. Regardless of how ridiculously poor the competition level you face every week is, just be certain that you win every game by a solid margin. You absolutely do not want a team like Idaho State sneaking up on you while you are prepping for your next tough opponent like San Diego State. And winning every game should be enough for the rest of the nation. Sure elite teams will be playing Top 25 teams for as many as half their games each season, but undefeated is undefeated even if you do it against "powerhouses" like UNLV. Besides, playing perceived weak teams for 95 percent of your season will keep your team fresh since they will not have to endure the weekly pounding from much stiffer competition like everyone else. Complain to the US Government Eventually, no matter what you do—no matter how closely you follow this recipe for success—there will be those that see your supposed accomplishments as less than deserving of the merit you so desperately want. So when beating the snot out of lollipop teams like San Jose State 11 games a year and sprinkling the occasional perennial underachiever like Oregon State in for flavor does not get the rest of the nation to agree that you should be viewed as deserving of national title consideration, write your local congressman or senator. Ask them to appeal to the current administration and force the "establishment" to allow you to compete against them in the title game even though you do not compete against them all season long and instead opt for an Idaho high school slate. Remember, your team should be quite fresh having played 10 or 11 scout teams while the elites should be roughed up quite a bit after playing their own much tougher schedules. Since you will only have to win this one difficult game against a team that has been softened up for you, finish them off on a neutral field and you will have a great shot at winning it all. If you can pull off this small but significant feat—at least in your own eyes—the rest of the nation has no choice but to welcome you as a powerhouse program, do they not? So there you have it. You too can change your program from an anonymous nobody to a legitimate national title contender by following these few simple steps. So if you are an aspiring up-and-comer or a struggling former title contender, this easy recipe for success should be exactly what you are looking for. It has worked for the Boise State Broncos and it can work for you, too. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/493666-boise-state-formula-for-success-and-a-shot-at-a-bcs-title
  19. Thanks SE for the heads-up on my poor proof-reading and spelling which Harry was kind enough to correct. Thanks, Harry. And I should also add for those not familiar with this disease that what our respective loved ones had while living is called dementia and can only be called Alzheimers once that is determined post-autopsy. My own dad had dementia for 10 years before he passed away on January 1, 2000, and the autopsy confirmed Alzheimers. We actually lose our loved ones twice in this life with this terrible disease and once is almost more than one can bare.
  20. From the M & G board and a link from the Austin American-Statesman Thoughts and prayers for Coach Royal, wife Edith and the entire UT community. Coach Royal is loved and respected far beyond the Forty Acres. Per my request and with his most gracious acceptance, he sent a "Get Well" card to my late father , ie, a huge Royal fan (who also had what would later be determined as alzheimer's) several years before his death and that after my dad had had a light heart attack. The man never met a stranger as SUMG and I found out when we met Coach Royal at James Wood's Autoplex in Denton for an appearance. AD Royal scheduled North Texas during the Fry era and best I can recall we were the first school of our scope and budget that ever got games with the Horns. http://www.statesman...es-2206071.html GMG!
  21. This? (1) Punt on 3'rd down! (2) Punt on 3'rd down! (3) Punt on 3'rd down? GMG!
  22. The main stream press had Jimmy Carter beating Ronald Reagan right up till election day and Carter was conceeding before the CA polls were closed. Reagan land-slided Jimmy Carter so I don't put much stock in what the liberal press ever has to report; especially since they are all tripping over each other trying to be the news story (Fair and balanced journalism is a total stranger to most of that group). Today the Gallop Poll (hardly a Democrat Party skewed poll) had Obama's approval rating at 43%. That is close to being an all time low for a president this close to election day. I'm sick that Herman Cain will not be running because I was for Cain when few others were--even over Rick Perry. Key Voters This November: Evangelicals & Conservative Catholics There were a reported 30 million of that group who did not vote back in 2008 mostly because of the very uninspiring John McCain. (And Obama won by 10 million votes)? Hmmm?
  23. You've got to be kidding....so Notre Dame would play an OOC game on the road in a stadium that has just 500 more seats than ours? GMG!
  24. UAB on life suppport with Paul "Bear" Bryant , Jr. wanting to pull the plug at any time? We should suggest to UAB that they hire Gene Stallings as a consultant so he can tell them (as he did us) how they should not worry about ever building a new football stadium? I know, I will go to hell for even thinking that, least of all posting it . or (a constant battle). GMG!
  25. We have no idea if we're getting in this round, but this is an open thread for CUSA & MWC visitors, too, because some of us have not been to the majority of your school's campuses. If there are any Alliance visitors, please link photos of your football & basketball venues & future plans of improvement or expansion or, uh, implosion . For UNT alums and Mean Green fans who have been to some of these Alliance campuses, give the rest of us your "non-flame or smack" assessment of how their's compares to UNT's. GMG! PS: OK, first one in line make the first assessment or comparison now. http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-85396711/stock-photo-large-group-of-people-waiting-in-line.html
