  1. I think we all know by now that each school is responsible for its own advancement or retreat. I agree that 14 is a good stopping point for CUSA albeit the Commish seems to want an even number in each division which would mean 2 more additional schools.
  2. I thought the seating allotment areas the UH Coog fans received was fair. 3 different sections of Apogee as I recall and I don't remember hearing of any complaints from any of them. We all hope that your idea of putting all visiting fans in the Wing Section becomes a necessity of our having sold our part out to MG fans rather than our being arse-holes to our opponents to purposely give them bad seats just because we can. Again, like our UH game I think you can split up sectional seating for visiting fans; just hope we don't have many seats available to where we have to do so. Ideal would be having only 1,000 tickets available for any visiting fans for any future game. We know that won't happen soon. NOTE: Having sat in the Wing Section for a game last Fall, it is really and truly not that bad a seat which I know many of us cannot say the same about others of our opponent's stadiums end zone seating who have very, very poor sightlines. Just sayin'... GMG!
  3. That is an eye-opener of information to say the least. Thanks for that research. GMG!
  4. There are some message boards that are truly a plethora of totally useful information and data (much like Harry's is "most" the time); and then there are some out there that are some of the best works of fiction, lagniape and tommyrot on the cyber scene. I don't get posters who post blatant untrue rumors and downlike lies. Such as the ones on the MWC board that has a thread running which says that UTEP and Tulsa (without a doubt) desperately want to join the MWC when that usually means 1 or 2 posters from each school are the only ones who do. GMG!
  5. OK, I'll do the survey as long as you don't promise to send me a "free" Dell laptop for doing so! LOL! ADDENDUM: Easy & not a time consuming survey to take....what are your ultimate plans if you can divulge?
  6. I think the first time La Tech visits Apogee Stadium they do bring close to 5,000 fans. Our UNT students may need to be teased that "someone wearing red and blue will be sitting in their seats if they don't get to the stadium on time." (Of course, La Tech fans will have an assigned section). I do hope our UNT athletic dept. promotions department (do we have one?) will have already started on some clever promotions they need to plan to fill the Wing Section end zone (for starters) this year and If not for this Fall, for certain our first one in CUSA. To use Silver Eagles terminology, now is the time to develop our new on campus culture where you support the team no matter who they're playing or no matter the W/L record. I know when Coach Fry first hired on at Iowa, he was amazed at Hawkeye fan support after about 20 losing seasons in a row in the Big 10. When he was introduced to Iowa fans at a baskeball game in 1978 all he said was 2 words "We'll Win" and he brought the house down according to stories I heard from Iowans. (Sorry, guys, with me you have to put up with old dad jokes and Hayden Fry--he did leave an indelible impression with me and many others on this board to say the least; seems he also did with Dan McCarney) GMG! Like so many of you , I look forward to having a set conference home schedule at Apogee annually with schools only someone living in a cave would not know about. This is going to be fun. Like Coach McCarney has even referred to about Apogee inasmuch that it should have been built years (decades) ago, but..........better late than never. GMG!! As I post, watching the James Bond movie "Tomorrow Never Dies" and UNT grad/alum actor Joe Don Baker of Groesbeck, Texas, just walked into a scene with Bond...............James Bond.
  7. If CUSA remains rogue, separate or whatever, and if they have good negotiators out of the CUSA offices, I believe our new conference trumps MWC in TV revenues per school hands down. Should not even be a contest. TV markets, baby, TV markets and that is the only reason MWC would want to hook up with CUSA IMHO. GMG!
  8. "All you need is love." (J. Lennon) Glad to hear Lance has caught Norm's attention.
  9. Thanks for that southern' hosptitality, Southern Miss Alum. One of the worst rain games some of us on this board ever saw at our old stadium was against USM in 1981. We had an ex Mississippi State HFC as our "one year" coach that year, his name...Bob Tyler. We lost against USM and 9 other schools that year in what was many of my era's fellow alums call our worse year as UNT alums or Mean Green fans. Then there was that NO's Bowl game..............I'll stop! LOL! I think you'll see a much more competitive Mean Green team in the near future; maybe not our first couple years, but in the near future. We'll be fine in basketball as a CUSA school.
  10. For Tier 1 in Texas as a full research university the endowment minimum is $400 million. I think UNT is only $300 million away from its goal. Good news for UNT seems to be that we meet all the other critieria of which at this moment I cannot recall what all they are. GMG
  11. Luv' Ya Blue! I attended a Houston Oiler game or 2 where UH now plays its home games. It was called Jepphesen Stadium back then, though. Then the Oilers temporarily moved to Rice Stadium and then the Astrodome, but you would probably know all that. Eagle1855, the main difference being the Big East revenues they will supposedly get would offset those Big East travel schedules easily. In the MWC, there would not be such revenues. The NCAA is just all messed up right now with its money-driven line of thinking. Don't know if it will ever stop before they ruin their product in the minds of the college football fan. GMG!
  12. And probably another reason CUSA's Commish Banowsky gets his seemed wish for CUSA to keep expanding to handle any more lost teams. One has to wonder when all this conference jumping will come to an end. I would still see Memphis of the Big East as one of the first the ACC would want over anyone in CUSA at this point, though. I don't see FIU or FAU as a replacement to Fla. St. any time soon. If the Big East did implode in time, I could see SMU and UH going to the MWC (since both would not want to revisit CUSA), but having one helluva' travel budget hit. Both of their SWC backgrounds gives them a step ahead of the rest of us in scheduling some of their former SWC schools as OOC games, though. I wonder what would happen if North Texas asked some of those for a home and home because you know UH or SMU won't go to their places unless they come back to theirs, too (whether that be at Reliant or the remodeled Cotton Bowl stadium which just announced another multi-million re-do). All of this does get a bit complicated at times. GMG!
  13. I once passed by Terry Bradshaw's brother's horse trailer out here in Parker County off Interstate 20. Wonder if there were horses in that trailer or Bulldawg fans? Guess I'll never really know...
  14. I know...this is "OUR" day to high 5 and celebrate North Texas entrance to a nice, cozy CUSA but this is just more NCAA craziness coming from the Mountain West Conference message board: http://cemetery-hill.com/
  15. My concern here is that ODU surely had to know that they might get a CUSA invite weeks (maybe months) ago, so they should have had a decision by today one way or the other. GMG!
  16. LOL! Yall ready for some real conference rivalries now? Well..... (2 words)
  17. Well, Jack, I guess the only thing left now for those of us 60 and above is a Big 12 invite? LOL! No, I like CUSA it's as good a fit conference-wise as we are going to get for awhile. Yes, it's Christmas in May for the Mean Green! GMG!
  18. Congrats to Rick V and staff... GMG!
  19. Schedule up--not lateral (CUSA is as lateral as we need to schedule) and--never schedule down. I defer to what Mr. Einstein said in the signature below. GMG!
  20. Give North Texas another 2 Texas HS football recruiting classes and we'll be OK, because our recruiting stock just went up today. Apogee Stadium + CSUA membership ='s Much more than we've seen in a long time at North Texas. OK, for you who requested it: I repeat: If I were Coach Mac, I'd red-shirt more than usual to start stock-piling talent in areas we will need as a CUSA member. I don't say we take a dive in the SBC this Fall and it would be nice to win it and go to a bowl, but our future is not in the SBC anymore and we need to make more than just a good impression our first season in C-USA IMHO. Just sayin' GMG!
  21. The Union as it looks now before UNT spends $100 million to do a re-do was just beginning its expansion to how it looks today my first semester which began in Janurary, 1972. It is no secret that most of us older alums need a map of our alma maters campus to get around.
  22. Did we get midwest coverage like this when we entered other leagues? (no) It's mostly a glorified blurb but at least they didn't call us by our old name, either. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sns-rt-fbc-northtexas-newssxa350ca1-20120503,0,3888411.story
  23. Not sure the Rice game during Fouts Field final season 2 years ago was exactly a wash, or the last game we played SMU at Ford nor was our bowl win over (then) CUSA member U of Cincinatti Bearcats, but I'm not sure how new you are to the Mean Green scene to have remembered that 2002 NO's Bowl win by UNT. But yes, we need to up our recruiting across the board and in football increasing overall team speed will be a very good start. GMG! PS: I think several from CUSA will need to catch up to our basketball program quite frankly.
