I've never thought of "mommy/daddy" for an illustration. Nice touch! I just know North Texas needs to grow up to CUSA standards very quickly and later let things fall where they may fall. I like what I see in our new future, though. GMG!

If the Big East implodes and all schools have to shuffle rather fast to find a conference home, I honestly can't wait to see all the ridiculous measures SMU will take to avoid being in a conference with North Texas. You know, the school they are not paying any attention, too? I don't think SMU has any idea how ridiculous they look with other Metroplex sports fans outside our own UNT constituency. (Insert a Norm Hitzghes high pitched giggle here). GMG! The University of North Texas: The Rising North Star of the Metroplex! GMG!

It has been said that North Texas AD Rick V is not a fan of "UNT" on anything, but obviously the fewer the letters the larger the letters. GMG!

Big East Commissioner forced out
PlummMeanGreen replied to golfingomez's topic in Mean Green Football
All those studies have been completed and it seems they all want to stick around the NCAA FBS scene. Try again. AND......I didn't know SMU'ers flicked boogers. I thought a little white dove flew to all of your alums aid when the nasal passages became a tad congested with foreign matter and yall dispensed that in a little silk purse-ette for the dove to fly away to take it whereever the hell SMU boogers go. (I know, this is getting a bit silly). Still, why do SMU alums want to keep their football program going when (maybe) only about 1,500 of your undergrad students may show up for home games? Most those I know would call that throwing good money after some terrifically bad money but oh well.....it's yalls money to burn. Most schools do not touch their endowment coffers to take care of anything concerning college athletics. I know UNT cannot use a dime of our endowment coffers for anything that pertains to the UNT Athletic Dept. Look, lets get this straight without all the additional lagniape of which I've added more than I ever wanted to but........... SMU is a private university that meets the needs of a certain clientele of student and UNT is a Texas public unversity that meets the needs of what is probably a more diversified student body--one much larger. And always from your alums the old commuter school? UT-Austin is more a commuter school than North Texas if you dig deep enough to compare how many of their students live off campus compared to ours. I grew up in the Greater Houston area and Cougar High was was UH fans had to listen to and all that from mostly the former SWC private universities. So...to quote Rosanne Adana from SNL........it's always something. GMG! -
IMO............"North Texas" has too many letters for a football helmet. Obviously, the more letters the smaller they have to be and it looks like even our chin straps compromises one of the letters now. I would put "NORTH TEXAS" on the upper part of the jersey because I think the 10 letters would be just as visilble there as the helmet and the SOW...............for the helmet. GMG! PS: With North Texas on the upper part of the jersey you can put both words on the same line or.............North on top of Texas with larger letters for both on separate lines. North Texas GMG!!

Brock Berglund decision could come within the next week

But you also want players who won't disrupt the locker room, too. Every one deserves a 2'nd chance, though, and if they're exceptionally talented--a third? GMG! -
In light of what we are seeing some Top 25 school's have with their unis this Mean Green uniform would be quite fine IMO. The wings on the shoulder pads kinda' hits you funny at first until it starts to grow on you. If North Texas stayed with a uni and the right football helmet for more than 1 AD and/or HFC's tenure at North Texas people might start being able to identify our uniqueness at the drop of a hat (or a helmet). Big East Commissioner forced out
PlummMeanGreen replied to golfingomez's topic in Mean Green Football
Having been around the DFW college football scene since 1972, my take on SMU is that its just a bunch of their fat cat alums who want to keep SMU football on some semblance of life support because the SMU student body seem to care less. UNT is hoping and praying (well really.... not to that extent) that SMU will do the right thing and just drop football, make Ford a nice home field for the Park Cities high schools and just quit trying to pretend that anyone really cares about their 1939 national championship and Doak Walker era of the 1940's of which SMU still gets much traction from. I don't think the SMU of the 80's is seriously considerred because of the rampant cheating that was going on before SMU got caught and God only knows to some extent after they got caught. North Texas will take care of North Texas and we are going to be just fine, because when the Big East powers that be get arial photos from one of our alums who flies frequently and when he takes aerial pics of SMU's Game Day crowds versus UNT's Game Day crowds over the space of (let's say) the next 2 or 3 seasons they (the B.E. powers that be) will all look at each other almost in a catatonic trance and say........"we damn sure did choose the wrong school for the Big East as far as DFW is concerned because just look at the arial pics that don't match up with what SMU keeps reporting as their attendance--counting season ticket holders or not counting season ticket holders." SMU had one of its football players in the midst of their winning season last year pen a letter to either the SMU campus paper of maybe even the DMN which basically said "we didn't sign on to come help this school win while no one seems to give a rat's behind one way or the other as our team looks around at an empty Ford Stadium." Go ahead, SMU, keep on living in the past because the future belongs to the University of North Texas along with its lights out growth and (quite frankly) that's whether you like to hear that or not. We took your place in C-USA and we will probably take your place in the Big East in due time when your alums finally "get it" from the SMU student body and you can mark that in 3 inch headlines, GMG! Big East Commissioner forced out
PlummMeanGreen replied to golfingomez's topic in Mean Green Football
Absolutely..............how does an AD tell his minor varsity sports coaches: "Football will be going to this conference because it is just more important than what your teams do for our school, so we will stick you in this other piddly little conference and throw you a few bones from time to time." I think Boise and SDSU eventually come back to the MWC. GMG! -
And what was TexasSWSTSTATETeachers-SM doing in 1975 when North Texas had a 3'rd string QB help lead the way in beating what today would have been a bowl bound (6 & 5) SEC Tennessee Volunteers? Yes, a few years ago for certain, but that is what is called NCAA D1 history and legacy such as we had in the 50's and 60's, too. (We also beat the UH Coog's 28 to 0 that same 1975 season as well). You know you will not win any arguments over here so why the hell do you keep trying? Most every thing you post is of a confrontational nature and that gets old after while. Go to your school's board and stay there. You add nothing of interest to this board and you are becoming a bore and a nuisance. GMG! PS: And great for TSU-SM's stadium expansion (but with a track still inside it); yet after their Texas Tech game why the hell would they want all those empty seats for future games with schools who will bring no traveling fans to their stadium? We have passed the torch to TSU-SM to experience what we have for decades and still didn't get such a break as TSU-SM going from an FCS kind of existence straight to the FBS Sun Belt. Bobcat fans world-wide should be making the sign of whatever a Bobcat claw looks like. GMG! !

Post-spring two-deep with thoughts
PlummMeanGreen replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
North Texas needs to start red-shirting CUSA level talent right now and I'll say that til the cows come home. Our coaches would know which ones those would be. (UH did the red-shirting thing en mass in 1975 the year before they entered their new conference, ie, the Southwest Conference. By the way, the Coog's went to the Cotton Bowl their first year in their new conference....the SWC). Totally different situation than ours, but look for UTSA to redshirt en mass this Fall. It would almost be a must do for their program. Yet, the SBC this season is not as important to North Texas as the 2013 CUSA debut season. It's just not. Just sayin'... GMG! -
Big East Commissioner forced out
PlummMeanGreen replied to golfingomez's topic in Mean Green Football
We will be nicer to SMU than they have us is an easy prediction. Still...I believe the Big East will temporarily rally their troops for the moment, but in the next 2 years the football part (IMO) will not have been worth the move for SMU and UH. GMG! PS: If you were at SMU, can you imagine the expense for the minor sports, ie, you having to fly up to Connecticutt to play a round of volleyball then fly back to DFW and all their minor sports doing that if the TV monies do not come thru for the Big East in significant numbers? GMG ! ! -
Big East Commissioner forced out
PlummMeanGreen replied to golfingomez's topic in Mean Green Football
SMU would go to the Southland before they'd admit they made a mistake (if it comes to that) and try to come back to CUSA. Yes, a bit melodramatic with the Southland part but some of you know where I'm coming from. Talked to a higher up this very AM about this and suggested UH and SMU would go with the MWC if this NCAA soap opera continues, but he said the MWC is probably holding a couple of spots open for Boise State and SDSU. As one of the last lines in the Bridge Over the River Kwai went: "This is insanity." GMG! PS: I look for the Big East to solidify but for how long is the main question now. -
Tuesday Night game vs ULL to kickoff @ 8pm
PlummMeanGreen replied to NT03's topic in Mean Green Football
I will not be DJ'ing a wedding on a Tuesday night! Great move. We've got to fill'er up, folks, for Apogee Stadium's national TV debut and I think Denton will get a little pub out of this too? WWSAD? (what would San Antonio Do)? GMG! -
And what North Texas must do is get our program up to former conference-mate Boise State standards so the Baylors, TCU's, TAMU's, etc, will see it an opportunity to raise their rankings if they could beat us...........but at Apogee Stadium For about 2 plus decades of the Mean Joe Greene and Hayden Fry eras TCU would never schedule North Texas. We had to go down a division and be sub-Joe&Hayden eras for them to want to schedule us, but that is the way of Texas college football and pecking-order scheduling. TSU-SM will find much of the same frustrations North Texas had during those times, too. If I were a betting man, though, I'd bet TSU-SM behind closed doors is begging the MWC to let them be their Texas entry. Any takers on that bet? GMG!

MTSU's Reaction to not getting into C-USA (funny)
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Now that is some funny stuff. And the actual movie is a great documentary of Hilter's last few days in the bunker. Of the 2 frauleins, the one on the right is very nice IMO. The blonde who walks up after hearing Hitler shouting played the part of Eva Braun Can't remember the title of that movie but the made it look so real and the one who played Hitler had a spot on likeness of that German monster of last century. -
Jack, you and I probably won't be around to see our culture change in Denton, and I know (and you know) much of what I post is pie in the sky by and by too many times, but with almost 7 million in the Metroplex, I just have to think that we can very quickly do like UTSA and find our own 31,000 to fill Apogee Stadium even if we were playing Slippery Rock U. I even have a different take on UTSA now. Free tickets or not, UTSA still had to have within their athletic dept. the machinery to get out that many people to their Alamo-Dome football games; in other words, someone had to get a massive amounts of tickets in their area's fans hands to get that many to show up each game last Fall for what is presently not a very good college football product. I contend that we don't have such machinery in our athletic dept.that could duplicate what UTSA did (no, not an RV attack here for those who think it is because I like most of what he has done for our alma mater) but RV cannot do it all by himself. In hindsight, UNT should have allowed students, fans and alums to be at our CUSA announcement a la La Tech who made their announcement party with the C-USA Commish'.......... "An Event." I don't know why there still seems to be a subtle disconnect between UNT and our fans, but that seems to have been a problem during most my adult life and not with just this present group. Yet we don't grow your athletic support by keeping the UNT atlletic dept. email list the same size with the same names asking the same people to buy season tickets and join the MG Club each year. Like sales, one sometimes needs to dust off their shoes with the same old group and go to new prospects. I DJ'ed a 50'th birthday party last night at a TCU alums huge ranch and to see Horned Frog Pride at that ranch party here in May is very refreshing. I know we are still a work in progress but we need to be a work in progress with many more new faces on the construction site (if you will) than to even use GMG.com as an example the usual 100 or more that regularly post on this forum and the same emal lists with too few additions added each year for a constituency our size. Sorry.............I digress (again). GMG!

North Texas just needs to act like we're the only game in town (the DFW Metroplex) and just let nature takes its course; not worrry ever again about what they're doing at either TCU or SMU. Has it ever helped us before? We never need to schedule down again. We will have all the regional schools coming to Apogee Stadium that we need with C-USA (and maybe even the possible Alliance/ MWC) games. If TCU taught us anything it was to stay exclusive without getting bogged down with too many other schools from the Lone Star State. I think that worked out quite well for TCU. Just sayin'... GMG! PS: Lordy, I just watched "We Are Marshall" (again) on TNT and still all choked up. Man oh man...

And what part of UNT is it that you love that keeps you coming back? Some of your schools you have mentioned reforming a new conference bring nothing to the table market-wise if they start becoming perennial losers. A perennial loser in a major market still brings more to the table than one winning annually in a small market. You might want reflect on that for (maybe) a minute. And we never will get to know which school you support that has you (somewhat) in a constant "UNT hater" mode? GMG!
