La. Tech heading to West Division, C-USA fee $2 Mil
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I think we might miss a couple of those schools; maybe even 3. GMG! -
We keep getting those 4 star transfers as well as others and we might be Top 25 before Phil Steele finishes his giant Fall 2012 college football edition. Our immediate goal needs to be getting out of the 100's of these kind of Spring time rankings. I think Coach Dan McCarney has designs on that happening sooner than later. GMG!

If the B.E. falters and as posted by another, SMU and UH will fight tooth and toenail to avoid coming back to CUSA. They will perceive such a move as that as losing too much face. Those 2 schools could very selfishly ask several other schools to lose all their finanical credits in other conferences (no matter how much) joining them to re-form another version of CUSA or what could be better for all of us concerned IMO if they did not return to CUSA............the MWC will accept them like that conference's plans were before those 2 Texas schools went to the Big East, but how much room will the MWC have if SDSU and Boise return to it? If that were to happen, North Texas would still be better off than where we were only if we can retain a few Texas and regional rivals which we did not have in the Sun Belt Conference. We were on an island much like Texas State will be and to a certain extent, ECU is in CUSA. If some schools would just accept the fact that they are not going to get in the Big 12 any time soon and just get back with CUSA as is, this consortium could eventually be a TV revenue-drawing juggernaut, but it they want their continued pride and living in the past to rule their day the impending financial destruction of a non-fan supported athletic program will be forth-coming IMHO. SMU Professor Says Move To Big East Will Hurt SMU...
PlummMeanGreen replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Darn good post. You have obviously been an astute follower of the the local and regional college football scene for awhile for you to understand to what extent some schools will go to create yet another pecking order. The development of a pecking order seems more important than developing good fan support for some. Yes, we need to win as a ranked football program this time around and get closer to our stadium capacity every game and may have to do some very un'North Texas culture things to make that happen. I defer to the Einstein quote below in my signature. GMG! -
In some said small Texas towns when a car full of us teens came to a stop sign at a "not very busy" said intersection someone would yell out CHINESE FIRE DRILL! Then everyone in said car would get out of the car, run around said car and jump back inside the car. (Not very much else to do is said Small Town, Texas). Upon further research for that said intersection, I have found out through my sources that the Peoples Republic of (Red) China now owns said intersection in Small Town, Texas, and all the land around it....................(but not for too much longer). 40 ? You don't look 40 (and that's a good thing). Happy Birthday, Stebo.

We might have to have an "All Transfer" team from within our team before this is all done but...... ...we need some more key transfers like Darius------as in a QB who'll be ready for 2013? Welcome, Darius, to Mean Green Country!

You were quite young when you started this message board, Harry. Now you've just about caught up to the rest of us. (well, not really) Happy Birthday, Harry!

http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/story/19011713/boise-state-might-be-having-second-thoughts-about-big-east "An industry source told CBSSports.com that Mountain West representatives met with Boise State officials earlier this week to persuade the Broncos to remain in the MWC." Seems more from the MWC folks than BSU, though, but BSU officials could have told the MWC officials to stay home--not interested. BSU is in an obvious pickle with their minor varisty sports and finding a place for them to land. I think the NCAA of today has become the collegiate version of a Chinese fire drill. It's sad. GMG!

CUSA Asks: Who Is Your Team ? ? ?

SMU Professor Says Move To Big East Will Hurt SMU...
PlummMeanGreen replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Sadly with most your points concerning SMU...you have hit the proverbial nail on the proverbial head, SCREAMING EAGLE-66. Wild Prediction: If the Big East falters completely, SMU and UH will go MWC or will lead the way to re-form CUSA/MWC 3.0 forgetting about losing credits and guess which school will not be invited? I mean don't we have history to go on with that, but IMHO even that attitiude will back-fire on them in due time. I mean you can't go on being a jerk forever without some semblance of payola for being such. I don't care how much money you have, either. Just sayin'... GMG! -

Quite a 2'nd half comeback for the Mean Green; still need some votes to win the game, though, and isn't it still about winning? http://csnbbs.com/sh....php?tid=569208 GMG! -
ODU may make announcement on Monday.
PlummMeanGreen replied to Mark Gommesen's topic in Mean Green Football
This "stepping-stone for said school tommyrot" will go on till the end of time. When we start winning again at a national level like we did in the 60's and 70's the media will crown us as the next school moving up. The Big East people have no idea of North Texas history and legacy in NCAA D1 which began in the Abner Haynes Era because they are up there and we are down here. Hell, they probably think we have cowboys, Indians and old time saloons here in Texas. (Well, we sorta' still do but in a different way than they think). GMG! -
SMU Professor Says Move To Big East Will Hurt SMU...
PlummMeanGreen replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
The AQ thing does go away I think this next year or the next. SMU can talk about the extra revenues but like you said they didn't move to the Big East for that at all; its just that those extra revenues will take a load off a handful of their alums who have been SMU's extra revenues. Now it's a totally different situation with UH because "IF" there are significantly extra revenues, the Coogs will be able to use them much moreso than SMU, although the non AQ coming up soon sorta' took the new car smell off the Big East rather quickly (and unexpectedly) for University of Houston. http://csnbbs.com/showthread.php?tid=569208 Hey, we could always have yet another thread on: Do we have an "NT" logo with the "N" on top of the "T" or is it the "T" on top of the "N" with a the star or David slap dab in the middle of either. (I support Israel before anything starts with the Star of David thing...just wish some in Washington D.C. did). GMG! PS: BTW, La Tech is kicking our tail in this one. Have we already become complacent? GMG!

SMU Professor Says Move To Big East Will Hurt SMU...
PlummMeanGreen replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Of course, we have no dog in this fight, but here is more on this article with comments from SMU'ers with the link below. A no-brainer statement here, but I think the Big East only helps SMU if they get significantly more TV revenues; because without tho$e it would have been a mistake for both SMU and UH. And with all varsity sports of SMU and UH in the Big East, just how much TV revenue per school do they need to make it worthwhile. too? http://www.dallasnew...tion=reregister GMG! -
SMU professor Sanford Thatcher wrote this strongly worded column today arguing that the overemphasis on athletics and the move to the Big East will 1. Reduce the caliber of applicants to SMU 2. Divert giving from academic to athletic endeavors 3. Result in the dissolution of non-revenue sports in the name of protecting the few profitable sports on campus. The kicker? His argument is based on what he (and the book Confessions Of A Spoilsport) says happened to Rutgers when it made the move to the Big East in 1995. http://www.bigeastcoastbias.com/ (then scroll down toward the bottom) GMG!

Big 12 new big TV deal, can C-USA improve it's deal?
PlummMeanGreen replied to Mark Gommesen's topic in Mean Green Football
Since our travel has been significantly reduced, $5 million per year for North Texas could really go a long ways. Lets all keep in mind Boise State started their run of success with the Big Boys with far less budgets than the very Big Boys they were beating. GMG! PS: Still think that Boise/OU bowl game a few years ago was the best I'd ever seen. -
Big East Commissioner forced out

Can this board's moderators detect the same ISP address with the same poster no matter how many aliases he might have? I don't think this board should censure all our visitors we don't agree with, though. I do think censuring a non-stop nuisance is another thing. GMG! -
Agree... UH and SMU would be begging for MWC membership if it comes to that and.......if there are any openings. I think if any new all sports conferences would have been formed that that would have already happened. Nothing stable about the NCAA of this decade for certain and helter-skelter may now be the best words to describe it. UNT still should send SMU a note of thanks for leaving CUSA and finally allowing our school to have some Texas and regional conference rivals, though. (well, not really) GMG!
