  1. My question is will less than $8 million TV revenue per Big East school (if that's what is is) really be worth their having left CUSA and the MWC short term/long term; that is, in light of each school's mens and women's entire varsity sports programs that will be flying cross country 1,000 miles (give/take) for matchups? For SMU, that would probably be money that their wealthy alums would have normally fronted for SMU athletics so for that elite group it would be a welcome windfall to their school which would ultimately save them some big bucks. And with most of the Big East schools due to their locations will virtually have no regional rivalries for well more than half of their home football schedules which we know from first hand experience can affect a school at the turnstiles. A financial hit at the gate will create another dent in some Big East athletic budgets while their fans stay away in droves due to non-traditional and unfamililar opponents that will be on their conference home schedules. I mean come on now....UCONN/SMU at Ford Stadium? If CUSA members get close to $2 or $2.5 million per school (which is probably liberal numbers for what we've read thus far); but if each CUSA schools receives that yet in our more regional rivalry environment, does that suffice for what we need to do comparative to Big East schools who could get $8 million (give or take). (I think most of the schools from CUSA/MWC left for the Big East thinking more in line of at least $14-16 million per year truth be told). Any of you mathmateicians have any ideas on this? __________________________________________________________ Selected excerpts from the CBS'Sports.com article with the full article listed at the link at bottom of page. The Big East's best hopes are that ESPN and NBC/Comcast get in a bidding war to drive the price up. But industry sources said network executives wouldn't go beyond "the 60s [million dollars]." Is it possible those executives are minimizing the Big East's value as part of a multimillion-dollar poker game or that's the actual worth of the league? The Big East is getting ready to find out A $60 million deal per year (as speculated by CBSSports.com's sources, slightly better than their low end) would be worth $4 million each for the 10 full members; $3 million each to the four football-only members; and $1 million each to the eight non-football members. Based on a future 14-member football league (in 2015, the Big East adds Navy as a football-only member and has plans to add a 14th school, preferably Air Force or BYU) and an 18-member basketball league, the media rights deal would be worth the following amounts per school annually: A $130 million deal per year (as speculated by Pilson) would be worth $8.66 million each for the 10 full members; $6.5 million each for the four football-only members (Boise State, San Diego State, Navy and TBA); and $2.16 million each for the eight non-football members The entire CBS'Sports.com link http://www.cbssports...of-its-lifetime
  2. The NMSU game was my favorite game at Fouts, too. And the south Fouts Field goal-post tearing down by a football field full of students and fans I still have a photo of that one framed. I think it was Dickey's best moment as UNT HFC even over the bowl win against (now Big East member) Cincinatti. GMG!
  3. And on a grander scale, TCU did what they had to do to get where they are today. RV does tend to keep critical thoughts to himself (as he should) and usually when he gets media quotes they're usually positive and upbeat. GMG!
  4. And if the Big 12 ever did expand and took 2 from the ACC, then why would the ACC expand as well? Our NCAA presidents and AD's have got to get control of their senses and remember what the true spirit of NCAA competition was actually mean't to be when established about the tiime Teddy Roosevelt was U.S President. GMG!
  5. I think playing the CUSA Rice Owls in Fouts final season 2 yrs. ago proved to us that we need to recruit more overall team speed and size. I also think Coach DMac understands that more than anyone, too. GMG!
  6. Congrats, FFR and your Mean Green team...We know that good things do come out of Parker County every once in a while, now don't we? GMG!
  7. Does DeLoss have any idea of the re-alignment stability he would be creating if he gets his way once again? LOL! GMG!
  8. Hey "K1": I thought all this time that Meyerburg was your pen name. GMG!

  10. Anyone remember when the ex UL-Monroe HFC Charlie Weatherby (sp?) threw a hissy fit saying someting like "how did North Texas recruit Jamario Thomas because he's not the pedigree of player they would ever recruit and sign at that school." Talk about jealousy (the vaunted green monster) at an all time high with that comment. WARNING: This last season in the SBC is not going to be a Sunday School picnic for North Texas because of more cheap shots (both verbal and physical) to come from schools that (quite frankly) I'd still never-ever heard of the season we beat both the University of Houston and the University of Tennessee in football...........I promise, I really hadn't; oh well, Arkansas State would be the exception because Larry Lacewell had the Indians going full speed ahead during that era. Yet I thought ULM's then HFC Weatherby' comment was one of the most over the top comments that UNT had ever received from one of our good SBC conference bretheran in the time we've served in this conference. GMG!
  11. Of course you cannot discount UL's success they seem to have had with their JUCO program. After all, the Rajun Cajuns did beat future Big East (well, uh,maybe) member San Diego State in the "Nawlins' Bowl.
  12. Doesn't the NCAA have another upcoming moratorium for schools trying for FBS status? Wonder if HKS was their architect of choice? It really does favor Apogee. Just read on "Wiki" that it will seat 30,000 and will cost them $50 million so............. there will apparently have more erector set effect to their venue unseen in their video. Located in Montgomery, Alabama.... It took the place of the older Crampton Bowl. http://en.wikipedia....tate_University
  13. Yeah, a bit of sour grapes from the UL AD but can you really blame him? UL has a great program that many think should have been a CUSA invite. Yet.....where our over 200,000 UNT exes living in DFW really count is that they probably have at least 2 TV's in their homes and many of them would watch North Texas whether they ever show up in Denton or not. This is the new "market driven'" NCAA and is why North Texas needs to (with warp speed) start getting some winning decades under its belt and SRO crowds at Apogee Stadium. Also, this is where our enormous alumnus/Ex students numbers help North Texas and sealed the deal for our CUSA invite. Of course, if all our DFW exes showed up at Apogee at one time we'd have one helluva' traffic jam on both Texas inter-states that lead right to Apogee Stadium from Dallas and Fort Worth. (Likely not to happen unless the Pope makes a Game Day appearance) . What I've Observed Since 1973: When North Texas wins the DMN and FWST give us ample coverage for our not being those 2 city's respective home team. That has been what I've observed since my first ever game as a UNT student back in 1973 when St. Fry coached his first game as North Texas HFC. NOTE: Both DFW major papers give North Texas far more coverage than the DRC gives SMU and TCU. In the 1994 Mean Green football season when North Texas was in its campaign to re-gain our NCAA D1-A status North Texas was all over the Metroplex sports media, ie, the DFW local TV sportscasts and (then) newbie KTCK 1310 "The Ticket" which has enough UNT alums on that radio station's payroll whereas they could form their own NT Exes chapter. (Anyone else think CUSA Commish' Banowsky is aware of our alumnus presence at KTCK 1310 "The Ticket")? When North Texas loses and loses often, the DFW papers do not cover North Texas. Hell, do we even want them to? Well, of course, we'd most all say yes in spite of losing. UNT's ace in the hole with the Dallas Morning News is that the Denton Record/Chronicle and DMN are both owned by the Belo Corporation and our UNT beat writer one Brett Vito has his Game Day coverage in both Denton and Dallas sports pages because of that. Just win................and have lights out attendance while winning. That is what got former Big West conference mate Boise State and 2 of the Florida upstarts where they are today. GMG!
  14. Good Lord...Where will UNT land in all this? The over/under? Of course, there is the part that you still have to play the games. GMG!
  15. AD Stull seems to be singing a different tune than he was about a month ago. Amazing what a sit-down come to Jesus talk from school president to AD can sometimes do to change an AD's tune at times. GMG!
  16. Your are correct....the listing below from CoogFans.com And darn, is UL-Monroe going to be that salty this year in the 'Belt? Amazing what they are doing with their shoe-string budget. Admirable, in fact. So far we have 100. New Mexico State 99. Colorado 98. Ole Miss 97. Rice 96. Oregon State 95 Kansas 94. Boston College 93. Minnesota 92. Syracuse 91. Bowling Green 90. Louisiana-Monroe 89. Kent State 88. Tennessee 87. Navy 86. Ball State 85. San Diego State 84. Washington State GMG!
  17. And how many new NCAA FBS conferences have been formed in the last 15 or so years? And when forming a new conference how long before a new league can have all the benefits of established conference beginning with how long before its basketball champion can receive an NCAA automatic bid? Would it be worth it for established NCAA schools like SMU and UH to really go thru all the trouble and hassle of leading the way for new NCAA conference? If the Big East folds now or later, the MWC have already suggested SMU and UH for their Texas-based schools. That would be a good deal for the Stangs and Coog's but those MW and Pacific time zones are murderous for TV, radio and next morning game results.......ask TCU. They hated the time zone part of the MWC. And if a new league formed leaving North Texas completely out in the cold could we count on you getting your ass off this message board since UNT's demise would most obviously give you much pleasure but at the same time very little material for "kick UNT in the butt" posts in the future? Would you believe your (seemed) main mission in life would be complete? GMG!
  18. I only wish I could have been a fly on the ceiling to see (maybe even hear) SMU president Gerald Turner's response when it became apparent that North Texas would take SMU's place as CUSA's new Metroplex school. Maybe no response at all from Turner, but with the "on again-off again" prospects of the Big East looking good one day and dismal the next, UNT taking SMU's place in CUSA may have been a topic Turner would refuse to discuss. For all who forgot, it was Turner who in that Dallas Morning News article several years ago kept pushing for another school other than ours for CUSA membership when he knew good and well that we wanted in. Uh..............."what comes around......." ? GMG!
  19. For the life of me, something deep down still tells me DeLoss Dodds and UT are not going to be Big 12 keepers. You think the Horns are going to let TAMU get all the ink the Ags will most likely get in the SEC? Not on your life will the Longhorn Nation allow that to happen. GMG!
  20. Looks like someone from Orlando has a lot of respect for what North Texas Coach Dan McCarney is doing in Mean Green Country. GMG!
  21. Thanks, DeLoss; like we need Notre Dame down here in Texas setting up a year round Texas HS recruiting office? Man, the NCAA is inside out-outside in, all shook up or whatever the term is for all screwed up. Are the Big Boys that much in the red with their budgets to want all this extra revenue? When does DeLoss wave his magic wand and pronounce University of Alaska Big 12 worthy? Funny part of all this is when DeLoss finally gets all he wants in the Big 12 then watch UT vault for another conference scenario like their country cousins down in College Station did. Don't for one minute think that Dodds is not going to keep his eyes on how TAMU does in the $EC because after all, the SEC still only has "1" Texas entry at this point in time. GMG!
  22. LOL! Laughter is medicine for the soul. We all need that medicine from time to time and I will admit I need a double dose of it as I get older and crank'ier. GMG
  23. Agree. And because of our award-winning propoganda producing machine on campus, few in CUSA or anywhere for that matter (even some UNT students and probably some posters on this board) have no idea concerning the content in the signature statement below is actually factual with that signature brought to you in living color. You have to sometimes wonder how our tax dollars are being best utilized at times because we have all seen signs that some (not all) beaurocrats (state employees) can tend to coast along, not rock the boat, maybe even be a tad lazy but be magnificently unproductive even when sitting on top a gold mine. GMG!
