  1. Seems like there’s more hustling going on up there to comb for more talent outside Texas. I think the next 16(?) ‘ships they give out for the February signing date could be extraordinary. (I tell ya’ it’s easy to see our top shelf venues up there are making an impression). Would love to know what Defense Coordinator Phil Bennett’s input to this class has been & will be before the February signing date. 🦅
  2. Looks like the UNT Green Brigade could fill that entire end zone space to me.
  3. How’s the famous Baker Hotel renovation coming along in MW?
  4. AAC Commish’ Aresca previously said the portal will be to the G5’s advantage? As of today I’d ask how? Of course, he said that before the amateur-sports killer NIL started rearing its ugly head (as it has in recent days). President Teddy Roosevelt had to help college football find its bearings over 100 years ago. Will it take a non-Progressive President to step in again? I certainly can’t see that coming from the Build Back Better crowd. I think it’s easy to see that NIL has the potential to kill NCAA sports. Will more NFL head football coaches flock back to colleges? Will colleges prove that money is the root of all evil? Hope not. As a proud 6’th generation Texan, it bothers the hell out of me that UT-Austin, a school who as a PUF school has had every advantage a Texas school could ever have; anyhow, it’s a shame that the school who named their stadium after Lone Star State icon Darrell K. Royal is now leading this NIL parade. (Coach DKR has to be turning over in his final resting place). 🦅
  5. Hey, welcome back NT80–we missed ya’! Fort Worth & .....Taylor “Yellowstone” Sheridan who recently shot some of Paramount’s “1883” not from my Parker County abode on mega-acres previously owned by UNT alum Jerry Durant. (Durant & Jim “Dallas Green” Fincher were frat brothers at North Texas as I recall Jim once saying). ••• Yes, exciting times out here in the West O’ Plex, too. GMG!
  6. So glad to have the Friendswood connection. I grew up in nearby Danbury & transferred to UNT from Alvin JUCO. GO FHS Mustangs! GMG!
  7. 😆Me too, greenjoe! My question to you after looking at some old YUCCA yearbooks is: How were the Cincinnati Bearcats ever a Fouts Field Homecoming foe of North Texas? (Since patsies are usually scheduled for that honor)? 🤔. I’ll hang up now & listen to your answer. GMG!
  8. Of course they are, Texas doesn’t want to enter the SEC completely hat-in-hand. Wonder if the T-sips think they can also buy love, too? 😳🙃
  9. Didn’t that UNT alum’s worldwide mega-business sponsor other major CUSA events, too? Ryan needs more than just a UNT academic bldg. named after him—he needs our next UNT satellite or free-standing campus named for him. 😌 What a great alum this guy is.👍👍
  10. When the NCAA powers see just what kind of conundrum they have created, surely they will rein most or all of this NIL business in? The alternative of all this most of you already know. ••• Like an alum told me today: “The NCAA now needs to apologize to the many schools they put on probation over money matters .” Wonder what a future NCAA with laws that are never enforced will look like? (Go ahead—say it).😞 🦅
  11. Isn’t WKU the school we beat 2 times in a row so we could get in the NCAA’s Big Dance? Good luck to Upton though. I don’t think we will be in CUSA long enough to play his new school. It does seem W. Kentucky has taken a newfound interest in football players from Texas, though (like all the rest of the 49).
  12. This bump for the many visitors on GMG. North Texas has won 24 conference championships & this bowl win was over the Cincinnati Bearcats (who were ‘then’ CUSA co-champions with TCU) the year we beat them in the Big EZ. ❇️🦅❇️
  13. Your UNT experience is obviously different than mine. We are still allowed that difference, though, right? 🤔To the best of my recollection, GMG is still an opinion forum. My above opinion “epistle” was more about alums who seem to find & accentuate the dark side of just about every freakin’ thing about the UNT athletic program. Never an upside with that hardy handful. It seems those clouds get darker the closer to success we have, too. Just read the “will we sellout this bowl or not” comments. Much to be said about even those. A shrink could have a hay day on GMG. Then read all the bonafide experts comments about the only UNT coach in most their lives who at Year 6 is the only one they’ve seen at or anywhere near .500. Hell! Some of them still want to name venues (or whatever) after one who left UNT (involuntarily) & left way under .500. Any normal person reading GMG could become abnormal after reading some of the comments on this board. Hell! Even I used to be normal. It affects the human mind what some of the Progressives-influenced crap that has now translated over to college athletics. Where does anyone think all this new NCAA & “potential college athletics ender” with ideas like NIL & maybe even portal transferring come? Use your Imaginations & then merely look at what used to be other sacred institutions in this country & what groups are shittin’ all over those because they cannot accept who & what made America a cut above? Still some love to hate but at the same time—LOOK AT WHO AIN’T LEAVIN’ & LOOK WHOSE COMIN’ TO LIVE A LIFE OF U.S. TAXPAYERS ‘PAID FOR’—EASE? ••• Do you want to become a millionaire? Well, you now know what to do to make that happen & hard work has not a damn thing to do with it. 🤬Sorry, I’m pissed at what is happening to college athletics because of stinkin’ thinkin’, total shortsightedness & of course always—money & greed. UT-Austin can no longer do it the old way—but now they may have to pay each of their offensive linemen $50K a piece to be able to stay out of the basement of their soon-to-be SEC membership. I assure all that this book the new NCAA is writing will not have a happy ending for all who still give a damn about amateur athletics. It’s now all about the Benjamin$. The NCAA bridge is now officially out. Navigate with fear & caution. 🦅
  14. For 48 years one of the things I’ve observed especially from the OldDenton (“we never did it this way before”) click is how the closer to success this football program gets the more they seem to double down in kicking almost everything about UNT in the scrotum. It’s really uncanny how our being on the cusp of success creates that response with some. (And some wonder why we have become the last stop for many athletic coaching careers)? Alums can set the environmental mood for any school’s athletic program. Wonder how any unbiased observer would rate UNT alums ability to do that if they read some comments on this forum? Do They Do It To Get Attention? Some of the NegNeds on GMG who consistently stay dark on almost anything related to UNT’s athletic program need to honestly consider taking a sabbatical from this forum. We’ve all done that when we’ve had enough. When with some all perspective has been lost & they take the role of constantly working against the grain of what should be the common good. After reading some of the comments on GMG, the borderline (or on the fence) UNT fan has to wonder what in the hell they’d be getting themselves involved with if they even gave their choice of being a Mean Green fan an honest shot. Just sayin’.
  15. ...the fact remains they never should have beaten North Texas even one time. Of course like anyone else here on GMG who bleeds green, I’m also a tad biased. UNT Coaches: Lets get more recruits into Denton this recruiting cycle that will add on to the last 3 superb classes & get this green rocket ship ready to elevate to warp speed as we prepare to enter our new conference home—the American Athletic Conference. 🧤A great Frisco Bowl game to all & although it’s been said many times, many ways—Merry “Mean Green” Christmas...To All. 😳😎 http://www.winsipedia.com/games/north-texas/vs/utsa

  16. Bump... Below is Mean Joe Greene with North Texas defensive coach Herb Ferrell, circa 1968. I took a Golf course as an elective under Coach Ferrell. He was a super, super nice guy & I’m still a lousy golfer.
  17. Andrew, Wren is actually chasing money to expand & finish the “built way too small” Athletic Center with probably a combo End Zone Facility to adjoin it. Once finished all UNT Men & Women varsity athletes will have access to a much larger weight room, sports medicine & other services that such facilities offer now at other universities. Media? If it’s not online we can forget newspaper coverage since the DMN & FWST can’t (or won’t) afford beat reporters for outlying schools. The Denton Record-Chronicle’s Brett Vito wins awards covering UNT sports & other Denton County sports teams. 🦅
  18. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ And many in the UNT youth movement have started & gotten some valuable playing time. This “near Christmas Day” bowl game will give them more valuable pre-Spring Football practice. A bowl win coupled with 2 or 3 major P5 portal transfers will rock the world of the Mean Green Nation. All this happening on the eve of joining the American Athletic Conference could not have been better timed. Heck! We just dismembered the #15 ranked team in America 2 weeks ago. The final score didn’t even indicate that it was not that close of a game. GMG!
  19. Wonder how Frisco bowl officials will handle Miami’s return tickets? I’ve bought mine already, but many of our fan base who haven’t may think it’s too late for them when it’s actually not.
  20. Also a nice pass at 1:00 on the timeline. Ruder, Aune & now J.D. Head will compete this Spring. I think Drummond’s “no hurry” development will definitely be good for his future in MG Country. GMG!
  21. Hell, the UNT Green Brigade, their member’s families & associates will fill a section all by themselves.
