..along with updated pics of each hotel with per night rates and discounts. I found this hotel link to be an impressive list of hotel choices with many new Denton and Denton area hotels I've yet to see. And for the many who come from miles around or who do not comes from miles around who need a place to stay on Game Day and/or other various activities related to Denton, Texas Womens University and.......... the University of North Texas. A good link to bookmark...(and won't the upcoming soon-to-be-built Embassy Suites Hotel and Convention Center at Apogee Stadium just be the green icing on the cake)? http://www.hotels-for-everyone.com/hotels-in-city/near,Apogee-Stadium.html?utm_source=msn&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=all GMG!

La Tech proved to all last Fall you don't have to have any semblance of defense at all but you do have to have one heckuva' scoring machine in place--as they did--last Fall.

Thinking outside the box: 4th of July @Apogee
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I thought I read somewhere they will be shot off from that large pond area south of where the Radisson used to be. I stand to be corrected, though. Show some of the best plays in Mean Green history on the jumbotron. One of my favorites is when Brandon Kennedy turns a sommer-sault over the MTSU QB and ends up with the football. Of course, last Fall's nationally televised ESPN game at Apogee with Jim-Jim's super long run will receive nice applause inside our accoustically alive football stadium! You go to the cinema and easily sit for 15 minutes and all you get is one commercial over another. I think the 4'th of July crowd at Apogee would like to see something on the jumbtron since the fireworks won't start till a little after 9:00 PM. I wonder what they estimate the crowd will be albeit many will be outside the stadium I presume? Question: Will Apogee's concession areas be open for business? GMG! -
Getting goose bumps with the "serious' video! I know I speak for many when I say this is the eve of something that many of us have waited for a very long time. Addendum: Is this the video they will show at Apogee Stadium for the Kiwanis Fireworks Show? If so it will be a grand slam for all that see it. Heck, I may now even come up to celebrate America, UNT and Conference-USA! (What time does the Ranchman's/Ponder Cafe open again)? GMG!

ODU is making sure its move to C-USA gets noticed
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Mo': Of course we've offered the GMG.com Family Singers services to RV to sing at the giant Kiwanis Fireworks Show this Thurs. night at Apogee. We have been practicing just in case we get the call, too! This is one of our tenors vocalising to get those vocal cords all warmed up for action. Here They Are: The GMG.com Family Singers................(eat your hearts out, Von Trapp Family)! -
Few know this but we do have a GMG.com choir and here they have a song to to express in their own special way a.... Big North Texas Howdy To Our New CUSA Brothers (and Sisters)! OK.....here goes-- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2xmScmG1Rw

I thought at one time the Fouts Field location would be better, but I've changed my mind on that. Just like those old "just add water" ads from years ago.....we at UNT need to "just add wins" to all that is going on in Mean Green Country. The rendering looks super! . GMG!

UNT loses 2 more recruit battles
PlummMeanGreen replied to H-towngreen's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
We all get caught up with "are we going to look good or bad compared to our peers in Texas and now CUSA" with all this recruiting business. Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine most every year now in his summer edition does a feature on "how did all our Texas schools do recruiting-wise (is it) 5 years ago; that is, which recruits made it and which ones didn't (and he has a list of each NCAA FBS level school in Texas and goes down the list of the players of each school). Hayden Fry (oh dear God, here we go again...I know what your thinking) ; but in the winter of 1977 Fry recruited the most highly recruited HS football player in the entire Lone Star State for North Texas and that player didn't make the grade at all but then..... This... ....how many unheralded recruits along with walk-ons "DID" make the grade at UNT and have been part of our best teams in Mean Green Country years past (of which some of that group of players even led the way for some of our teams to go to bowl games last decade) and decades before for that matter? Yes, I know, we forget about all of that when the TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL RECRUITING WARS start all over again each year. That memory loss we all seem to experience of what we've all seen happen in Denton as expressed in the sentence above this one is quite the phenomena itself. I wish we could sign fifteen or so 4 to 5 star rated recruits each year but we won't....(so does Bill Snyder of KSU and Coach Peterson's Boise State for that matter because both those schools hardly ever finish in the Top 25 best recruiting classes most any year--in fact, for Boise they haven't ever finished in a Top 50 recruiting class from what I've read, but I may have to further check into that with another online source. Still, schools like the 2 mentioned above do have to have a coaching staff who have the uncanny ability to discern which kids few want could make it at the NCAA FBS level....that has been the success at schools like KSU and BSU that are not going to have Top 25 recruiting classes...some of that group even might make it to some of the better bowls any given year for that matter. GMG! PS: Honest to goodness, best thing I've read today on GMG.com is the news on the Apogee Hotel and Conference/Convention Center....that rendering is very sweet to say the least and it just adds more fire power for our recruiting. Here is the link on that beaut' ! http://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/Denton-Convention-Center-Gets-Closer-to-Reality-199063231.html -
UNT loses 2 more recruit battles
PlummMeanGreen replied to H-towngreen's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Perception is like fools gold...sometimes its just really not the real deal. Few on this board know (or forgot) that SMU entered CUSA with almost a............ 20 year football seasons losing streak. I probably would mention to some that such athletic misfortune and losing cycles happen to other schools, too, before they throw (only) North Texas under the bus. Kansas State had a dismal 75 year record of losing before Bill Snyder came to Manhattan, Kansas. Almost 99% of present NCAA FBS level school members "NEVER" had to endure what they did in Wildcat Country. I might have mentioned that to the little girl. It is so easy to dog pile on losing programs and especially when it comes to North Texas. Funny how the Roman mob effect will change almost 180 degrees and overnight once over. 500 W/L seasons start happening (again) in Denton, Texas. Losing begats what we get on this board sometimes to the level of ad nausem--I've hurled a few myself but..............I think we will all see how winning creates the opposite effect and at UNT it will be the best time possible now that we have top shelf athletic venues to keep such winning as a regular staple in Mean Green Country. Good recruiting classes will happen in Denton, folks. Lets see what happens in Year 3 for Coach Mac inasmuch that if we win this Fall that might be a subtle hint that we've been doing OK with our recruiting? Sure, Coach Mac may need to tweak or even change some of his salesmen (assistants) from time to time....but good recruits will be coming to North Texas. It's almost an inevitability because hellsbells..... look at what these kids get to look at on their first tour of the UNT campus and then the Mean Green Village for heaven's sake?!?!?!?!? Yes, a bit biased with that statement but most on this message board know what can ultimately sell and that which won't sell, but at North Texas, we've substantially added in most recent years to our PBL; that is, our Positive Benefits List. Sure...we (especially those of us older nestors) want all this to have happened yesterday, but lest all forget............. we had 5 losing seasons in a row before we had 4 bowl games in a row and that happened last decade--not that long ago. So should we ask Kansas State fans about the virtue of patience, fellow alums and Mean Green fans? We could probably learn that virtue from them more than anyone. GMG! -
This will be as good a Go5 conference there willl be because look below at the home cities/areas of some pretty darn good schools, some very cool and interesting regions of the good ol' USA that our present team, new recruits, future recruits and all the Mean Green's traveling fans will get to go for away games and, of course......all the other CUSA schools will all get to come to the dynamic, burgeoning with warp speed growth North Texas Metroplex featuring that city at the tip top of the D-D-FW Golden Triangle...Denton, Texas, America! (Our entire Metroplex area will surpass New York City in population in just a few short years to put some perspective on this as well as the dynamic exposure all CUSA schools will get when they come to the northern part of the Lone Star State). (clink! clink! spoon hitting side of champagne glass): So....A toast to Conference-USA! Here! Here! Hellsbells! Let's WOBBLE! (Hey! Mick Jagger and the 'Stones are in their 70's and still rockin'--so watch out for us Baby Boomers because we won't go easy to a rockin' chair) ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qd6UI6wEIsU

UNT loses 2 more recruit battles
PlummMeanGreen replied to H-towngreen's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
In the past, we've played the Texas Longhorns off their butts with players (recruits) no one knew about during recruiting season. An amazing phenomena here, but Boise State has never had a nationally acclaimed recruiting class but they do OK. GMG! -
UNT Satchmo, if you're referring to Louie Armstrong's nickname of Satchmo with your moniker; anyhow, while on a summer of 1966 family trip out to visit my sister & brother-in-law in San Francisco (they were stationed at the Army's Presidio located at foot of Golden Gate Bridge); anyhow, my sister bought tickets to see Armstrong and his Dixieland Band out at the Circle Star Theatre (not far from Candlestick Park as I recall) and it was June 15, 1966, my late mother's birthday so it was a birthday gift for her. It was a great concert and Ol' Satch's opening act that evening? Hows 'bout Smokey Robinson and the Miracles? It was a most memorable evening during my young teen years. Heck, I'm still thinking about that concert of 2 music American music icons and long ago even now but that's what we older geezers, too, right? Oh.............6 wins and if we catch Lady Luck sleeping..............7 ! GMG!

Bill, I'd be delighted to have you and the Mrs. assist me in DJ'ing a wedding in about 3 hours since I know you love music so much. I'll even play a couple marching band selections in your honor while everyone goes back inside to the A/C. Half of todays wedding will be outside and it will probably be at least 102 heat index even at 7:00 PM tonight! It's these summer wedding where I earn my spurs, believe me. Hope you do have a great B'day celebration for youself, though! GMG!

Almost slipped this one by us, didn't you Silver E? Happy Birthday.....and many more.

To give you a sense of the Defensive Tackle situation
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I'd be a little surprised if Abbe were not able to come back. Jeez, he did't commit armed robbery with a Fast N' Furious type of gun or something. And no, we should give no passes to any of our players breaking the law ever, but some out there can use a 2'nd chance to clean up their act. Now multiple offenders a different story. A truly penitent apology to the coaching staff and maybe even the team with any of these situations can go a long ways to show their true sincerity i would think. GMG! -
Unless the world has completely gone topys-turvy, I think UTSA will be in for a very rude awakening this Fall but..............if you don't think big as many from UTSA do, might you stay small time while continuously setting small time goals of which of a few you might occasionally reach? If you don't see yourself as exceptional with exceptional goals might you mostly always stay average or worse? GMG!

Wonder how Kansas State fans felt before Bill Snyder came to town. Their dismal record before Snyder makes ours look like a success story.

Raiders set for celebration of C-USA membership
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Since UNT will be having its CUSA party on July 4'th, that gives us 3 days to "borrow" some ideas as far as how all the other new CUSA schools do theirs with their own party activities,ie, results from their official websites after July 1'st. Don't most businesses "borrow" potentially good ideas from the internet all the time as it is? I know I do in the DJ business. I have no idea what the Denton Kiwanis Fireworks crowds are anymore since I don't live in Denton, but how many do they expect to show up this 4'th of July at Apogee Stadium? How many showed up at Fouts the last few years? You know, we really do amplify problems or potential problems on this board more than we might should from time to time (almost like an old woman's sewing bee bitch session at times), but what do we really expect to accomplish with our CUSA welcoming activities anyhow? It's really going to be just a quick hit type thing anyway. We will not make or break our marketing program on this one night's activities since those should have already been well in place as far back as last Winter. If 20,000 plus citizens show at Apogee (with many bringing along the "all important" kids demographic) no matter what they say or just show on the video jumbotron about CUSA will still significantly reach more than all the other much, much smaller parties at all the other new CUSA outposts. What are "those" newbie CUSA schools expecting to accomplish with their parties instead of just, well, uh, a party? If North Texas were marketing savvy it would do just like those forever TV info'mericials and keep their video message board busy throughout the evening hammering out CUSA visuals. They don't have to have an audio commercial on the subject every 5 minutes to the level of over-kill but merely visuals because..........a picture is worth how many words so say the Chinese? GMG! -
On BSU's Recruiting: "Coming out of high school, almost none of these players were very highly rated by the myriad of recruiting services that evaluate such prospects. In fact, Boise State’s last seven recruiting classes have on average been ranked 69 out of 120 Division 1 FBS institutions. During that time, the program signed a single “4 star” prospect, whereas the aforementioned Alabama Crimson Tide signed 17 prospects rated 4 stars or higher in 2013 alone. http://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonbelzer/2013/04/04/boise-state-football-and-the-blueprint-for-organizational-greatness/

To give you a sense of the Defensive Tackle situation
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Read it somewhere years ago from a recruiting guru that top HS DL's most always want to go to the Big Time U's. North Texas should (if it can) get 1 assistant coach that exclusively recruits JUCO's the year round and come close to their specific signing day (usually in December?) our asst. coach sits on the front porches of the top JUCO prospects until they fax in their letters of intent. Been saying this about JUCO's for a long time--probably even 2 or 3 head football coaches ago. GMG! -
UNT loses 2 more recruit battles
PlummMeanGreen replied to H-towngreen's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I cannot talk for Dallas Green but I think he'd tell most of us that the way North Texas starts out-recruiting SMU is if we win about 8 or so out of those 12 games; otherwise, SMU will continue to get players we want in the recruiting wars. If we win our share against the 'Stangs then the recruiting field gets a bit more level. 12 games against SMU could actually be one of the most important home and home series we've ever had at North Texas if win a bunch of those 12. God help us if we don't . GMG! -
I'm with ya' on that, Big Dawg! It was since 1973 till the present...the best game I ever saw as a UNT student or alum on campus. I only wish Darrell Dickey has just kept recruiting on a yearly basis as well as he did one of his first years at UNT when he pulled in almost 10 Texas State Top 100 HS football players from Dave Campbell's list--and that was with Fouts Field as our football stadium, folks. Just watching even a bit over 30 seconds of that video got me so fired up last night (and even now) it just makes me want to see this Fall's team do as well and create as much as excitement. Never saw a Mean Green crowd so into a game as that one! GMG!

Louisiana Tech Got a QB Situation ?
PlummMeanGreen replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
A QB controversy in Ruston? Uh....oh. Except most of us would wish no ill will on one of our Denton favorite sons--except maybe play less exceptional when playing the Mean Green, of course. Come on back to the North Texas side of the river, CK! We know you love us or you wouldn't spend so much time with us over here, right? There is something that keeps drawing you back like a magnet to your (obvious) first love. AND......we will pardon all of your past 'mean'ie' comments and transgressions about the MG and just all sing Kum Bah Yah together like one big happy MG family sittin' around a campfire; you know, just like in "Blazing Saddles?" Just do it, CK. You'll be glad you did! Honest Injun'! GMG! -
LOL! Plumm only freaks out those who allow themselves to be freaked out. Smack is smack....if you want to sing hymns you go to church...if you want to participate in harmless, mostly friendly and good natured smack versus those who would otherwise put our school down mostly on a "non-stop" basis and that based on our recent athletic history then most of these forums would not be the place for one to spend their time. Yes, it gets heated at times but by posters from all schools...but nothing so heated that anything ever burns to the ground. Smack from Dwayne of Minden's BB&B board and Harry's GMG.com is probably the very thing that got what will be (I assure you) a La Tech/UNT rivalry started. I really do believe that and I know others of you do to. La Tech now has a little SMU'esque swagger about them but they know what they are now up against with North Texas now that all our top shelf athletic venues are finally in order. UNT now has more positive selling benefits with our athletics program than we've had since forever. Hey! I can't help it if I've wanted our school my entire adult life to emulate something close to how it was when I was a North Texas student! Was it perfect back then....no it wasn't but.............Sue me if I go on to other boards to take up for North Texas while others seem to sleep and slumber and could care less when our school is being trampled in the mud by outright insult and worse....subtle insult like "NO ONE MENTIONS NORTH TEXAS AS WHO THEY WANT TO BE THEIR RIVAL?........ .............so maybe such lack of caring or responding to those who insult us a pretty big sign as to why we've been where we've been of late? If you ask not--you get not? And we've really not been asking for more most of the last 2 decades with actual visible W/L results of getting it. I sense things are changing for the better and CUSA membership has sharpened our leaders focus maybe almost quadruple what it was as a Sun Belt school. It's "show time" for North Texas in the new CUSA and more will be observing if we do "show up" for the occasion probably more than anytime in our athletic history. GMG!
