  1. "Book em', Danno!" McGarret of Hawaii 5-0 Want to see you on a surfboard 'hangin' 10' over on the north island, too, bud' ! FFR, come on now, send the MG Nation some pics from Hawaii! We're all waiting! GMG!
  2. Hey Mark.....maybe because some of us just do not want to die for our school on the field of battle out at our fabulous Apogee Stadium? LOL! I am just now beginning my walking regiment with this new Type 2 thing I was recently diagnosed. I have lost 20 pounds but I don't get to eat anything I enjoy anymore beginning wiith pizza or a good hamburger (too many carbs). Bread sticks & croutons in my Olive Garden salads are out, too. Will Apogee concessions have vegan plates or a chef salad on their menus this Fall? Actually, there are still many good things I can eat. Seriously, fellow alums & MG fans....not trying for any sympathy votes talking about this here but please take this as a fair warning: if you haven't had your blood sugar checked lately let me play (perhaps) a small role in maybe helping to save your life down the road. This thing absolutely snuck up on me after I went to the hospital late one night with a case of food poison (of all things) and I left the emergency room that night with a Type 2 diabetes diagnosis after they ran the usual blood test. (And.......no one in my family had any prior diabetic history, either). Like Rosanna Danna said: "It's always something." GMG!
  3. ...YouTube video music background by our internationally famous--multi-Grammy nominated UNT O'Clock Lab Band. Song: Hip Pickles Composer: Lou Marini, Jr. (UNT 1 o'clock alum and Lou is the sax player on top of diner bar in Blues Brothers movie/Akrowd/Belushi) Performed By: One O'Clock Lab Band Director: Steve Weist, UNT College of Music _______________________________________________________________________ Our UNT leaders are going to make it to where recruits will want to come to UNT for even more reasons than just to use their scholarship-worthy talents on the competitive fields and venues of battle with varsity football, basketball, track & field, men & womens tennis, womens softball and volleyball, future men's varsity baseball, etc, etc... This video blew me away and shows how enormous our new UNT union will be when finished. Also looks like UNT athletics will get some very nice full blown action pics inside the Union once finished. Unbelievable... GMG!
  4. Wonder how many CUSA opponent's home-comings we'll get to help celebrate our first season in CUSA?
  5. You da' man, 817Fan! Happy Birthday! (And do you have a mountain in your back yard or what)?
  6. Looks like this may turn into one of those "what you can do--we can do better" kind of things between AAC Commish' Aresco and CUSA Commish' Banowsky before all this is over with. How many more bowl games will the NCAA sanction is what I'd like to know? I'm reading on the CUSAbbs board where Alabama State may even be trying for a bowl game in their nice stadium. Guess I'm one of a only a few who wants to see CUSA create and host a 2'nd bowl game in San Antonio, a la Wright Water's brainchild-- the NO's Bowl? We don't want to get too "East heavy" with these bowl games but that IMHO, of course. I guess we have no control on who our opponents would be but I do hope we get more Po5 opponents because other-wise how will our teams that do get ranked move up in the rankings? I realize that those days may be numbered as it is. Oh well.... GMG!
  7. I don't think I know you but Happy Birthday anyway! GMG!
  8. Welcome......Sir ! You are a great American and we appreciate you.
  9. Danbury High School (Panthers) Color: Black/Gold Danbury, Texas (SW of Houston in Brazoria County) Lettered all 3 years on varsity....1966, 1967, 1968 Tri-captain, '68, All Dist. Safety * My senior year was one of those good year/bad year kind of deals The Good: My senior yr. we had the first winning season in about 4 years. 8 wins & 2 losses The Bad: My HFC (Harold Humber), his wife (June) & 9 yo daughter (Gaye) were all 3 killed 2 mos. before my graduation after they spent the day visiting the coach & his family over at Houston Alief.....Coach and family was one of those coach/teachers you never forget because you loved them like family and I still think about all 3 of them to this day.
  10. PS: I've blocked off days this Fall; that is, our CUSA inauguration year that I would ordinarily be DJ'ing events. I buy my Mean Green season tickets in a few weeks on a day after SUMG (and anyone else wanting to join us) go to the Ranchmens in Ponder to break bread, eat some steak and reminisce--and to look forward, too. This year I want to be at Apogee "in person" to see some of the schools that are mocking "OUR" school now catch holy hell in a green-tinted hand basket! Go Mean Green!
  11. And Kody has North Texas losing to UTSA based on what? Do they ever go into detail on that? Maybe he has them beating us based on the fact that Coker won a national championship at some other school umpteen years ago? Maybe even because Kentucky Fried Chicken (and probably other outlets) do one helluva' job of distributing massive numbers of free football tickets all over south Texas to watch UT-Almost S.A. Hose-Runners football)? Anyone else on this forum remember how hacked off many, many Baylor fans were an era ago when fans wearing red and blue were sitting in their "paid" seats at Texas Stadium vs. the Mustangs; that is during the Mustang Mania area when SMU promo person Brad Thomas & Gang were giving out well over 100 free tickets per seat for many of their Texas Stadium games)? (I actually applauded SMU's zeal and even bought into some of their ex SMU AD Russ Pott's theory that.................. "an empty seat cannot buy a hot dog; it cannot buy a coke; it cannot buy a T-shirt promoting the school, etc, etc, etc, but am not so sure massive free ticket give aways were always the best policy either. Seems SMU did not retain most of their freeby tickets fan base looking back. Glad we get to play that UTSA game (and in Apogee Stadium to boot--does Kody B. the Sports Forecaster know our record there--he should have checked that out, too); anyhow, glad we get to play these games so the likely results will inspire some of these sports scribes & sooth'sayers to actually do more research on what they are predicting. You can add most all the summer college football magazine writers to this list of very poorly researched predictions made on last year's teams not figuring in an important factor that many of the teams they made their forecasts will have graduated key players--some in large numbers. Finally, could Kody Brannon's newly crowned powerhouse UTSA have played Kansas State anywhere close to how we played them last Fall? Could his new favorite team, ie, the UTSA Hose-Runners have beaten 2 times in a row NO's Bowl winner the ULaLa Rajun Cajuns on ESPN national TV last Fall (as our team in green did most impressively)? Personally, I hope we have the opportunity of runnning up the score on the UTSA Hose-Runners because they, too, have had some very interesting and most condescending things to say about North Texas...in only their 3'rd year of football operations for crissakes'! What would one day in the sweet by and by become a UTSA campus was located in a yucaa & cactus dominated terrain when North Texas' Abner Haynes was busy becoming an NCAA Division 1 Time Magazine All American back in the mid 50's and others from CUSA were playing football at NCAA levels most of us had never heard of or knew even existed. They should to the school all remember what they are saying about North Texas now as they continue to "NOT" respect our school in the new CUSA's inaugural year. GMG!
  12. Does Dajon Williams redshirt or does Coach Mac put him in the fray this Fall? He was in Orangeblood's Top 100 list? Daa'um..... ______________________________________________________________ (from Harry's thread top of this page) QB - Dajon Williams - (6-3, 190, 4.6) Pflugerville, Texas (Connally HS) [June 20, 2012] The 6-3, 180-pound dual-threat quarterback picked UNT over Louisiana Tech and Montana...number 74 on the Orangebloods Texas top 100 list...A first team All-district 17-4A selection as a senior and a second-team selection as a junior...Williams attended UNT’s Junior Camp in Denton and later participated in the team’s satellite camp in Round Rock...threw for 1,977 yards with 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions last year... Coached by Howard McMahan
  13. And does our Parade All American LB transfer from Oregon receive his immediate elgibility or does politics do it to us again?
  14. A la the New Orleans Bowl being the Big Easy's 2'nd bowl and IMO............CUSA Commish' Banowsky needs to park it in San Antonio and not leave until he secures another CUSA bowl in the Alamo City. This is what can happen in December in San Antone' during a bowl week.
  15. Happy Birthday... Mine seem to come every 365 days and I also can't seem to stop them, either.
  16. We all have to hope above hope that at some strategic point a new leaf will be turned. They have to know from our history that even at Fouts Field there were many bright spots and some pretty darn good football teams to inhabit that dilapidated ol' lady. Now we have the widely acclaimed Apogee Stadium to hopefully change many more of the right people', ie,the BOR's attitudes compared to when we were across the interstate at the old place. Yet at Fouts, who would ever take us serious about a future at the NCAA FBS level? Not even CUSA took us serious in 2004 when they crossed us off their expansion list supposedly because of our existing on-campus football venue. I am not going to point-counterpoint everything posted on this board...the proof is still in the pudding, but until we get a better taste of that pudding (more winning) all we can do here is speculate (which I suppose is still the main purpose for these forums anyhow)? We all know our past, we have to hope that decisions are being made now to give us that better future I think most all of us want. Winning will change so many attitudes on this board....it has changed my own in the past. And at my age now, I am too old to be a sour puss' because what good has that done in the past? GMG!
  17. I still say the best thing that came out of this for North Texas was losing the connection with the "Sun Belt" and then, of course, the fact that we are in a conference that has a school from Houston, Texas, in it. (Go Owls)! That alone is bigger than I think any of us realize at this time. UNT just has to cash in on all the positive benefits being in this conference will continue to produce. If we do the "ho hum--business as usual" thing all over again then we are what most would call being...sunk........................ but I just do not see that happening this time around. We seem to have more on campus who know that it is shake and bake time for North Texas MG football along with our other varsity sports--no more excuses because those could be met with a very loud but most noticeable silence from here on out. GMG!
  18. We should have dressed that 'beast of a LB guy" up in full UT or TAMU gear, then he go (in person) before the NCAA panel that makes decisions on these matters and then just see how long it would take him to get ready for 2-a-days....this August! The politics in this country at all levels continues to baffle the minds of many of us us. GMG!
  19. Hope that chewing gum doesn't fall out of her mouth...then again, it might be interesting to help her retrieve it. GMG!
  20. Agree....we have been bad for too long a period of time. Was talking to a fellow alum the other day about how we just let all this get away from us and seemed to not do much to solve the problems that were causing our dillema. You have to admit that there is a problem before you can even begin to address and then solve the problem (and I don't think our top echelon leaders at UNT in the past have been very effective at doing that most my entire adult life. You do have certain barometers to go by to suggest that things are going well or things are going to hell in a hand basket. I hope that is changing for the better and for good. GMG!

  22. Senior moment...your time for having those will get here sooner than you'd ever think. But I think the rest of the message of the post was fairly close to being accurate; at least I think it was. USM? I don't think the pollsters really care about the rest of us once they get past their Super Conference crowd of ranked schools quite frankly. Sometimes (and most past years) it almost seems the Bottom 25 to 35 is like they throw most all the Go5 conference schools in one giant vat and just start picking those at random just to fill out the rest of their NCAA FBS rankings and many times those rarely based on serious research or facts. Those ranking UNT this Fall have no idea of all the NCAA FBS level transfers we have coming in nor have they seen our recruit lists (and videos) which I think is actually a better class than most on this forum have judged it to be. Boise State when they first started getting good rarely had recruiting hauls that caused anyone to notice, least of all rank those first few classes very high. At some special point in time, the law of averages even at UNT where many of our projects actually start fulfilling their full potentials. Lest we forget, some of our best producers in the past at UNT have been walk-ons. GMG!
