  1. Well, lets first start with a comparison of both school's rich and famous alums. Maybe a little green'us-envy with the comparison aspects perhaps? North Texas has an endless list of rich and famous as seen in this link...http://www.unt.edu/famous-alums.htm And then.... UTSA has, uh, their.....one, albeit apparently an honorary alum to boot?

  3. In what you posted that I put in bold, would you like to explain that? We had injuries last year (as all do) but our best offensive weapon was out most of the season. Still.....North Texas beat a bowl bound ULaLa on ESPN national TV on a weeknight at Apogee Stadium And by the way, that same Rajun Cajun team won their bowl game last December. We played an inside the Top 10 ranked Kansas State off their heels and they had to work hard to win that game. An upstart college football program in their 3'rd year of operations doesn't play Top 10 schools as close--not even the UCF's or USF upstart programs in their 3'rd year in business in the state of Florida as I recall. Now if you want to do like a few Texas State fans do and play the "how many Rivals stars on a bunch of high school recruits" game...go ahead...make our day, but to put your school on an equal with North Texas in your 3'rd year of operations is about as naive as one can get. We applaud your crowds at the Alamodome and your close relations with the KFC franchise, but all our fans have to buy their tickets--even the ones in the Wing Zone end zone seats. Go figure... GMG!
  4. Hollywood and Paramount's nice shots of our beloved Fouts Field, UNT alum FFR "the Armadillo mascot", FFR's 'cannon shot', Kathy Ireland, Sinbad, Scott Bakula , Fumble' lie-ah', etc, etc, etc... A scene I thought pretty neat was the aerial shot of the UNT Hurley Administration Building at the beginning of the movie (but it is not to be seen in this video--buy the movie).
  5. We celebrate our 100'th year of playing college football this Fall and UTSA is now (what) in their 3'rd? So why is this discussion even taking place? Dan McCarney has been slowly stock-piling our team's talent level with CUSA/FBS level college football players for 2 years now since he basically lost his first year of early committs recruiting due to the timeline of his hiring. Many seem to have forgotten how so few players UNT had on scholarships the day he was hired. This may be a close game for 1 (maybe) 2 quarters, but I really do think by the 3'rd and 4'th quarters there will be no ambiguity or doubt which school has the better across the board talent no matter what took place with this program all those years preceding Coach Mac's hiring. SMU had a 20 football seasons losing streak when they entered CUSA and so if they can turn it around after that why can't we do the same with nowhere near those kind of losing years on the eve of our own CUSA inauguration year? We need more foxhole Mean Green conversions coming from this board--not those who will jump out of our foxhole & haul a$$ because they (apparently) don't want an association of what has been a losing program with our alma mater's football program but still............. our UNT fans never having to endure what Kansas State U did for over a half century in the Big 8 and even with SMU's Ponies pulling up lame for well over 2 decades post Death Penalty (which they probably should have never received in the first place looking at what their other SWC bretheran had been doing just as worse). THERE! I SAID IT, SMU'ers! LOL! GMG!
  6. I like the Bronx-style moxy and attitude of that post, Harry!
  7. If you do not have 1 of your degrees from UH then I am thinking of someone else. Sorry 'bout that. GMG!
  8. jredallas, are the John J. Moores family still involved with UH athletics? http://www.nytimes.com/1991/10/30/education/wealthy-couple-repays-alma-mater-51.4-million-to-university-of-houston.html And didn't I meet you at a UNT football game at Fouts Field years ago?
  9. Thanks, tylermeangreen... Wasn't Danny "Make Room For Daddy" Thomas (and Marlo's late dad) Lebanese, too?
  10. Good Riddance! Fouts Field! (You Done Got Replaced)!
  11. There is another thread or 2 going on Jalen but what the heck...I'll say it again.... Welcome to a great Texas HS football player going to a great school! You will make a difference, Jalen! GMG!
  12. Welcome to a great linebacker to a great school! PMG 1976 NT grad PS: Love the Dr. Phil reference! LOL
  13. Who knows? I may be your grandpa. I remember when UH could not draw flies even had they been a horse manure factory. Why don't you just give up all that Cougar crap and come back home where you know you belong since you're already here anyway? GMG!
  14. Welcome to North Texas, Kishawn McClain! GMG!
  15. In 1994, ie, 1310 KTCK "The Ticket"s first year of operation, the University of North Texas owned that radio station (so to speak) during the Fall. Dallas' 1310 AM carried all our football and basketball games that athletic year and even had a post game call-in shows that kept their phone boards lit up. I don't think KTCK managment could have ever dreamed this would work so successfully with UNT. Of course in 1994, we were winning some games, too. Well, one other DFW area school couldn't stand it so the next season they basically bought off The Ticket thinking they would have similar listenership as our UNT constituency gave Jub'Jub's and Junior's station but that was not going to happen. Do the constituency math comparisons of both schools and anyone would understand why. Of course, 1994 was the year that all our UNT lambs layed down with all our UNT lions; that is, we all had a common purpose and goal and as many of you have said in the past we came together like no other time before to reach what would become a very important milestone for our school. That milestone was for our school to re-gain NCAA D-1 classification which we did. Not sure why a new CUSA membership has not created the same effect albeit has to an extent but not like 1994....IMO. If North Texas alums can ever get to that level of solidarity again, there is nothing that we can't do as a group, but reading this forum lately makes me think that might be quite difficult. Many of us who have given a damn about all this for 4 and 5 plus decades have questioned personnel from time to time who we think have been given proper time to produce but you know what? ? ? ?.......at age 62 ,I've decided I'm now too old to be upset about every damn thing up there that does not produce some winning seasons (which, of course, losing as we have created such an attitude for many of us). My thing now and probably what should have been all along will be to come to games at Apogee, enjoy the food, fun and fellowship, sing the school song so people in the next section can hear me and just support our school and its football team. Maybe we have the winning combinations up there who are just needing more time to make all this work but hear me out with that, too.... ......unless you are a UNT Board of Regent you may find out quickly that you might be wasting much of your youthful energy and keyboarding skills trying to fight UNT's version of City Hall. Lights are on in the A/D, but no one is listening to us most the time even with all our million dollar ideas that we have seen dissipate like a wisp of vapor in the Texas sun. Bottom LIne? It's their job, folks, not ours. We can be still be proper gentlemen to them even if we agree to disagree--even when we vehemently disagree from time to time. No doubt we do have some very nice, congenial people on our athletic staff and right now for all of our sakes (and theirs) we should just bury a few hatchets (not in someone's head, either) and hope for them to succeed in ways we've never seen in Denton--even during the Mean Joe Greene and Hayden Fry eras or the 4 bowl games in a row era of last decade. Honestly? It's just when you get older you want the timeline to become winners to be moved up and thus some of my own past reasons to fight UNT's version of City Hall merely trying to, uh, hurry things up? Not that what I suggested might have done it, but if you give a damn about UNT like most all on this board, you just do and say some of the damndest things from time to time. Folks, it's just not worth your time to be pissed, miffed and to attempt to change what you cannot change with words on a college message board like GMG.com. Some of you I have admired from a distance your efforts to make a difference with some of you succeeding but at the same time getting your feelings hurt and then the bitterness that too many times follows but..........................sometimes its just becomes a good idea to try new and friendlier methods; you know, sort of a "catch flies with honey" type of thing? And on GMG.com, we only run potential fans off when we get too intense on personnel or worse (personal) matters and most of us have been guilty of that, too. Best case scenario for 2013 is that all our Mean Green lambs find common ground with our Mean Green lions and we all move this program forward together. Now that would be real nice for a change. GMG!
  16. When North Texas beat the Tennessee Volunteers it got their HFC Bill Battle fired. So talk about your basic turning lemons into lemonade...Bill Battle would shortly thereafter establish a new company called College Licensing Company. Most of you have something on now, in your closets or in your chest of drawers with its logo on it as I post and as you read. GMG!
  17. At age 62 I don't like the direction my body, my country or the NCAA is headed. This is all like one of those America goes into the dumper movies or something. I think we tax-payers will soon need some relief and quite soon. Any legal ideas on how we can get that relief? GMG! PS: Actually, I need me some slobber-knockin' Mean Green football (with wins) and a 38 inch Louisville slugger for my back yard oak tree right now. That would give some temporary relief. ...and a little Geritol could probably help, too. GMG ! !
  18. Yuk! Yuk! Yuk! If YOU are a psychologist then I'm an astronaut. If you were, then you'd need to set an appointment with yourself for some intense therapy. First question you would need to ask yourself is: "Why do I have such a fascination and obsession with a school that for whatever reason its diversity (which is dramatically so much more than my school) and enormity seem to have intimidated me to a blubbering idiot? And so I get on their GMG.com board daily and show myself as well as my as to what any 12 year old would be able to interpret as a true inferior and wenus-envy complex toward a school that is so much larger than mine?" So with all that in mind.....what would your answer to your own question be, Dr. Phil-Phrog? And you a psychologist now? My lilly white Texas arse! You need to go back home to PhrogPhantomPhorum, Mr. PhrogPopPsychologist (at best) and squat on their board for the next 25 years and get the hell off this one. No one has invited you to our living room. Didn't you ever learn the basic ettiquette that you never go anywhere that you're not invited? How gol' darned uncouth of you. How do you act when you go downtown to the Petroleum Club (oh, those were the party'ing days) or FW Club in the ol' Davis bldg. when you are trying to impress one of the Moncriefs, Burnetts, Bass's, etc, etc, etc, grand-daughters for a get rich quick marriage proposal? Surely not the same way you act here? So hop along now' widdle'biddy TCU froggie boy and go enjoy the lower half of the Big 12; you know, just like the old days in the Southwest Conference? BTW, that is "your" school's future as a Big 12 member and I only defer to Baylor who has not won "1" Big 12 football or basketball championship. No ambiguity whatsoever with any of that big guy so.....any further questions?
  19. SUMG and I used to do the schedule poster thing back in the day. We actually had fun and/or made it fun doing all that, especially around the Courthouse Square businesses. Even when I had a house over in North Richland Hills almost every store on Denton Hwy from Keller to Denton had a poster; a few in Justin, Ponder and Krum, too. We for sure had the Mean Green religion--actually still do! Caught SUMG speaking in Mean Green tongues one day he got so darn excited. i told him he was embarrassing me and to stop it! He did. (just kiddin', John, I'm just kiddin') Then Emmitt01 and Gang took it and ran with it a few years as I recall. greenjoe, I think one year we even brought you a poster to Denton Bicycle Center of which as a UNT student I bought a Raleigh 10 speed from your business (as I remind you often ad nausem)! LOL!
  20. Welcome To Mean Green Country! Brandon Garner! GMG!
  21. And the Super Pit would not suffice for their larger meetings? I know there needs to be space for various vendors to set up their wares but maybe that is where Denton's (hopeful) new convention center at the Mean Green Village would suffice? (Would not the Super Pit lobby concourse area and the huge room where we had the Coach Gene Stallings meeting work to some extent? Just how many athletic vendors attend this convention these days anyhow? I know this is all pipe dream with the Denton and UNT aspects of hosting this important convention, but the Texas HS Coach's offiials and program planners needs to understand that there are more NCAA FBS HFC's in Texas than just the 3 they had on the program this week and those 3 being from TAMU, TCU and SMU. That really reeks of a complete bias at its highest order seems to me. Oh well....life goes on.
  22. Hey! Make your points and then leave! We're having a family argument right now and you're taking away from it.
  23. I'm sure Texas HS recruits reading from some of our band-wagon gang are so duly impressed. Don't know if I've ever seen anyone boast about being a possible band-wagon'er, quite frankly. The past? You want to bring up the past? Well, I do because our past has much to do with the present and the future. Can't we of UNT say that more than anyone? Some learn from the past...some don't. If we older nesters bring up the past , it will be the part of that past that was successful and that past which can be a subtle hint as to what can actually happen at North Texas again. Don't think I see many posting about our unsuccessful past. This might be the very forum that that could occur, though. GMG!
  24. Without a doubt, there are some on this board who would have demanded for Hayden Fry's head after his "two win" season in his 2'nd year as North Texas HFC. And (again) TCU's Patterson would have been a goner after TCU lost to a 1-AA team (and I don't give a damn how long that "1-AA" school had been open for business because fact remains..............they were still a freakin' NCAA D1-AA football program playing a former SWC school that had only the year before beaten the USC Trojans in a Sun Bowl game. Only time most of us ever judged any North Texas HFC was after they'd been our UNT coach for several years and then most would go by their cumulative W/L record over those number of years); otherwise, most would trust our UNT officials to do what needed to be done or what in a perfect NCAA world should be done. And yes, some of us (including yours truly) have wondered why after years and years on staff they didn't change some of their modes of operation or why they were not changed but that was yester-year and those yester-year is gone. So yes, meanjoe, I just re-joined the Mean Green Club and am a season ticket holder again because IMHO....now (especially now on the eve of our 1'st CUSA football season) is the time for all Mean Green'ers everywhere to do what you don't see too much on this forum and what seems to be the "un-North Texas" thing to do and that is to form or create some semblance of solidarity...much like we all did in 1994. Remember 1994? That is when we all did what had to do for "OUR" alma mater to meet the stadium size and attendance criteria to re-join NCAA Division 1-A. We were a raging success with that venture! As some have posted, we've not been as unified since...wonder if history can or will repeat? Most of us who want to see our school progress sure as hell hope that history will repeat. GMG! PS: Anyone else feel our football recruiting momentum gaining as each day goes by? We even saw some samples of that on Fox Sports at the Texas HS Coach's football game in Fort Worth just last night. Say what you want, but Coach McCarney and staff's Friday Night Lights program is taking a stronghold among Texas HS juniors and seniors but even more importantly....among all of their respective Texas HS football coaches, too. So as Richard "Shaft" Roundtree was asked many times: "Can you dig it?"
  25. Now this is some real positive stuff with that, Harry, and thanks for posting it, but we have some on this forum who will find something negative to say about even that. Stay tuned...it will happen. GMG!
