  1. Happy Birthday, BV!
  2. Happy Birthday, kj86 and mean green d.
  3. Raher & Sons beer is a very popular subject (and beer) over here in the Fort Worth area. I think beer sales at Apogee on the student side would do more for student attendance than would be beyond our wildest dreams. GMG!
  4. Ah, yes, Lewis and Rex Cauble Remind me to tell you at a tailgate, Mark, if I see you at a tailgate about the time when former UNT Athletic Dept. SID Doug Ray and I had a meeting with Rex C. when he had his offices on Denton's University Drive. Man O man, the photos of some of his famous friends that he had on his office wall was quite impressive. Even more impressive were the character witnesses his lawyer had lined up for his trial over in Tyler (?) as I recall. From The Mean Green Club Archives: Were any of you at Rex Cauble's ranch arena for that Mean Green Club dinner a particular evening back in the dark ages? Mr. Cauble (per my request) even took me over to a horse stall and introduced myself and a couple others to the famous Cutter Bill who was studding out during his last days. Hey newbies! Of course, Cutter Bill was a famous cutting horse. A horse is a horse, of course, of course, and no one can talk to a horse, of course; That is, of course, unless the horse Is the famous Mr. Ed .............Cutter Bill! Ol' Cutter Bill had to have a horse'y kind of smile on his face upon his passing......of course. Yes, Harry, it may be getting closer to that time of moving the thread since here I am reminiscing (again), but (of course) it was our UNT Alum Assoc. President who brought up the name of Rex Cauble here! GMG!
  5. If anyone thinks the Big Boy's (Power 5) head football coaches are doing all this extra stipends talk just for the kids then just take a look at the very climate of the entire USA today. Some in D.C (both sides of the aisle) pretend to be For the People but anyone with half a brain and can walk and chew gum at the same time knows damn well most anything they dish out to the public today is hardly about us at all, but rather about their power and their control and you can start with the very idea of the previously denied by one party Death Panels but that is all I will say about that. Same thing with the Power 5 HFCs inasmuch that this is more about them than the kids; This is about them finding an inside edge in the recruiting wars they have amongst themselves (see PS below) plus even at the NCAA level their creating a bit of class warfare by separating from those of us in the G5 group who actually still believe that in the USA you can still advance yourself up a class or 2; that is..............a school can move up the NCAA totem pole (a la TCU, Utah, etc) by following the right modus operendis to get there. In essence, these greedy Power 5 "so and so's" are now trying to take away the Cinderella stories out of college athletics this time around by using the almighty concept of the stipend to do so. Like anything else, I think stipends would be fine but in moderation--lets not kill the goose that laid the golden NCAA eggs here, but the Power 5 folks haven't known the concept of moderation for quite awhile now. GMG! PS: Haves and 'Have Nots' Even Among the P5 Conference Schools? A Theoretical: UT's Mack Brown and/or his UT assistants might very well say something like this to a potential recruit if P5 schools actually got their much larger stipends: "Hey son, with this stipend just look around our campus environment (6'th Street & Beyond) where you can use some of your extra monies for R & R as compared to the environment in Manhatten, KS, for heavens sake?" GMG ! !
  6. It was suggested to the mods in the initial post to move this anytime but others seemed to want to read about some of our fellow alums success story but still...... ....if the subject of 4 UNT graduates who on the most watched cable news TV station in the USA just this morning mentioned that they had all 4 met at "the University of North Texas" and their saying that to one of the Fox interviewers (Steve Doocy) who has a daughter attending SMU (hee--hee); anyhow, if all this is making 2 of you just a bit too tense(?), well, then......this... Don't read anymore of this thread...............................no one has a gun aimed at your temple making you do so plus..... there are about 100 other threads on the 4 previous pages of GMG.com you can fill your down time with, instead. Jeez-Louise... To the moderators: Still move this thread anytime you deem necessary. GMG!
  7. His lack of height could hinder an NFL career, but playing in Canada might be an option. I don't think Johnny Football will miss one game this Fall, though; may be wrong, but I'd be surprised if he gets nothing more than a slap on the hand.
  8. I believe the Eli Young Band will be performing their All American concert on Fox and Friends around 7:00 AM this morning. I stand to be corrected on that timeline, though. GMG!
  9. Its an opinion board and I've never been shy to offer one even when it sometimes made me a temporary whipping post or worse straining prior friendships, but if we don't cater to those who are needed to fill Apogee Stadium then just who is getting catered to and moreso.....why? In any industry, if one has an inflated ego of self worth, then that one needs to also have a long list of accomplishments to back up that ego and in college athletics the main accomplishment of winning is at the top of the list. Not just at North Texas, but in the sports business there is never a shortage of egos. I defer to Dallas Cowboy's "General Manager" Jerry Jones for starters. Sometimes egos even get in the way of eventual success. Some sports scribes believe that ego thing fits Jerry Jones to the tee. We've all been in jobs that require good to excellent customer service skills and without that basic trait, you are not going to have many customers and worse, you are not going to have repeat customers (which is what UNT must have to succeed) Almost Made Me Blush: I went up to UNT a couple weeks ago with a Mean Green friend, met a few others at the Apogee Ticket Office, rejoined the Mean Green Club along with a purchase of season tickets then we all went to the Ranchmen's Steakhouse in Ponder for lunch. The first thing I noticed once inside the Apogee Ticket Office was how so darn nice and accommodating A.J. and the other tickets dept. employees were; in fact, the attention they gave my fellow alums and me almost made me, uh, blush? Then.....in a light rain, A.J. of the Ticket Office in full 3 piece business suit didn't flinch or worry about getting wet and took me outside to show me first hand some great seats for my giving level. When you are made to feel important even though your not a million dollar contributor (this alum still waiting to win the lottery) then you start feeling good about being all things Mean Green again no matter previous season's records and for me, a cause I've believed in since 1973. GMG!
  10. Bumped... As a reminder, our fellow alums mini-concert is this AM on Fox and Friends. To be fair and balanced, I watched the weather on CNN just minutes ago.
  11. OK now......... enuf' is enuf' is enuf' already. THIS ....................can we have a moratorium until Game Day, ie, August 31'st for all posters on this board, ie, North Texas fans/grads/alums, etc, to stop taking pot shots, cynical remarks, sarcastic statements, etc, etc, etc, aimed at each other? I know most all of this has bred itself from a culture of losing, but good gosh, most of us have proud mamas (whether alive or not) who taught us to be more respectful, and especially if we're at the same dinner table? KRAM1 is president of the UNT Alumnus Assocation and deserves better on this board whether he has pissed you off or not; and we've all pissed each other off from time to time but hows bout' a "no hitting below the belt at fellow "known" UNT alums and Mean Green fans until Game Day in a few weeks? Can we at least give it a shot? How many Aggies spend time kicking each other around? Few that I have ever known and their unique solidarity has accomplished some pretty darn great things academically and athletically. I know a couple of Aggies that this Johnny Football thing is about to kill them and one of them from Nacogdoches used my wireless mic system at an auction he served as auctioneer last Friday evening in Decatur. Peace? GMG!
  12. Hey, UNT'crazy'727....don't know why but one of their platinum sellers "Crazy Girl" is still one of my favorites of this group. On the the YouTube video below it has received over 15 million bytes (or is it hits)? DJ'ing wedding receptions I do get lots of requests for that E.Y.B. song and rarely do I miss an opportunity in announcing pre or post song telling the crowd what college town this group met and then all graduated. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3HwFtdVTfM
  13. UNT's 2013 Distinguished Young Alumni Awards Recipients Eli Young Band http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzM3Lme78uw
  14. Move this thread any time, moderators, but some of our UNT rich and famous will be on Fox's concert series tomorrow morning, ie, 8/9/13 http://www.antimusic.com/news/13/August/08Eli_Young_Band_To_Perform_Live_on_TV_Tomorrow.shtml PS: Wouldn't it be nice to have them at Apogee for a post game concert? GMG!
  15. About the same as watching in 120 degrees? (I'm not 22, 32, 42 or 52 anymore, sports fans)! I'm still trying to recover from that 104 degree temp at kick-off of our UNT/Baylor game at old Fouts Field last decade (and a game the Mean Green won over that Big 12 school, of course). A.J., the UNT tickets guy assured me my season tickets would be in the shade so I guess I'll be fine. GMG! Unrelated: Anyone else notice in the Fort Worth Star Telegram how TCU has lost 3 or 4 starters due to "no interest in playing anymore" or to injuries? 4....3....2....1.....Froggie Poster response coming at'cha' soon.
  16. No matter what, UNT must find a way to fix the chin straps as to not cover part of our school's name for heavens sake. GMG!
  17. Here you go, Harry: "How many more Apogee luxury suites are available for purchase (or rental) if any? And how much are they? And what phone number does one call to inquire?" (Don't worry...I wouldn't be one of those callin' but if I could just win one of those damn lotteries one of these days that would change. An alumnus from Kansas State U did years ago and look what he did with his $udden windfall). GMG!
  18. I'll say it once more: The Idaho game will be close for 1 to 2 quarters but our team will get its land legs and rout this team in quarters 3 and 4. Moral of Post to MG Fans & Alums: Don't panic in Quarters 1 and 2. GMG! PS I think we will do well at most all Apogee-based games this Fall, but I do worry about how quickly this team can learn to win on the road. GMG ! ! Insignificant Addendum: Today, we have had some rain, cloud cover and its still just 95 degrees here in Parker County when it was forecasted to hit 104.
  19. I will now read it in its entirety but I think the worse case scenario would be if any degree of guilt is found that the only punishment Johnny Football would get is he misses 1 or 2 "quite insignificant" OOC games. GMG!
  20. MIssing and what may be the hidden piece of this whole story is that there sure are a whole bunch of Former Students of TAMU with big time money and they take their Ag' football very seriously, too. One of those Former Students down in Aggieland used to own the Dallas Cowboys at one point. So don't rule out righting a wrong with another wrong with this Johnny Football story from a Former Aggie Student. Also, I think the NCAA likes this kids story on the football field too much to punish him too severely if they punish him at all. Last time an Aggie won a Heismann was John David Crow in the mid 50's and ironically, TAMU was on an NCAA probation that year as I recall the story. GMG!
  21. Speaking of records, the school over off Mockingbird Lane in Dallas has only had 14 above .500 seasons since 1960. So UNT does not have a corner on the market in too few winning seasons. I think we all have in common that we want this for our school to change very soon, though, and just like Bill Snyder's Kansas State U turned their 50 years of mostly losing into winning I think we all believe our school is on the eve of doing the same. http://mcubed.net/ncaaf/teams/smu.shtml
  22. Not near enough on this board have memories of what it's like to beat truly Big Time teams. Once you have that experience and warm feel good feeling in your blood you just keep thinking no matter how long it takes it can (and will) actually happen again. Probably why many of us have mostly stuck around the Mean Green scene most of the last 40 plus years. GMG!
  23. Actually, I've met many on this very message board from such open to the public practices over at Fouts and before Harry's Mean Green was established and then went viral. As a UNT student, Coach Fry's teams practiced near the Fouts Field practice fields and I would go to many of those. Coach Fry didn't seem concerned with hiding some of his famous Fry's exotic plays, either. During a UT game week he would tend to close practices, though. With open to the public practices there are more good things that can happen than bad....IMHO. GMG!
