  1. The UNT coaches will be loyal to DT#7 but he will have to produce right out of the hat for that loyalty to last. Whoever can lead this team and win games has my vote. Been awhile since we had so many QB's in Fall camp who could actually start. The competition among'st our QB's will push them to the next level of each of their talent levels for sure or they will not get much playing time. I like the numbers because you just never know about the injury bug in college football. GMG!
  2. Where is Baylor U on this list? I could not find them. TSU-SM had a significant school name change which gave theirs a nice push. I mean their alums/fans had to change from "SWT" to "TSU-SM" for heavens sake. I mean come on now, what were they going to do-----go to TSU Bobcat games wearing SWT gear? North Texas has always had the 2 common words "North Texas" in its name almost all its history. Now if we ever settle down with a brand? I can't find UNT caps at Loves out here in Weatherford most times. So is it just a matter of distribution or something? Who on our campus can deal with all this but moreso................SOLVE THIS ONCE AND FOR ALL? Smoking Gun Theory? I always thought in the back of my mind that Bill Battle (who started CLC) and who we cost his job at U of Tennessee post 1975 football season may have been pulling off a little subtle discrimination toward our school; that is, from his company's beginnings but that is just one out there school of thought but haven't we seen subtle discrimination before--some not so subtle, too? And Lordy, I don't think Bill Battle could carry a grudge toward UNT forever, right? Seems we may have actually been his lemon that he turned into an annual mega-million$ pitcher of lemonade, eh? Others on the list surprised me and may always have just this list as their claim to fame but not much else as.....Montana State for starters? Still, I think most would rather be on this list than not. UNT just needs to settle on a brand and win some darn football games from one season to the next to the next to the next and that will give UNT an upsurge on this list. GMG! FFR, do you have a link on your above claims? Just curious...
  3. He must have read that Bear Bryant book about Junction, Texas, when he took his Texas Aggies there on 2 buses and came back with players who did't quit in 1 bus. WIT?
  4. And why in God's name would you care one way or another? Truly, do you have mental problems? Of course, if you did you'd probably just keep on posting the same kind of lagniape you post now. Have you thought about another hobby than posting on this message board?
  5. Jack, you are probably the most senior of all our posters on GMG.com. I read most anything you post because I know you know what the heck your talking about but...........what is your take on this 2013 edition of Coach McCarney's Mean Green? I know how disappointed we all were when recruiting didn't take off Coach Mac's first 2 years (albeit when he was hired that recruiting season was basically already wrapped up because he missed the early signings aspects of it plus...............he had not had a chance to install his seemedly now successful Friday Night Lights program, either. What do you see happening this Fall, Jack? The good, the bad and the ugly of it all? Long or short version. GMG!
  6. Way too much on this board is so based on the past as if one's QB talent are set in stone never to change or improve. As I recall watching some replay games from last Fall DT#7 had a handful of bounced off receivers hands passes which became interceptions. A shame they have no statistic for that in the boxscore accounts which could read like>>>>>>>BORH&GDTGI (BOUNCED OFF RECEIVERS HANDS AND GOL' DARN THING GOT INTERCEPTED)? . GMG!
  7. Just got online in the last 30 or so minutes and have not read Page 1 threads yet, but thanks for the tip.....I'm heading to your post now. GMG!
  8. Honestly? I'm just glad to see that we have a handful of QB's in Fall camp from which to pick rather than just our usual 1 or 2. Why are we so worried about the QB position and so few threads on the defensive line comparatively? If we solve the DL problem this team will go bowling and all the Neg' Neds will have to come up with some totally new material for this board. Like maybe the turbines outside Apogee blades are turning too fast to suit them? I pray to the good Lord above that some of our recruits never read this board at times it gets so trite on subject material. Whoever our QB (s) are I believe will still be running the kind of offense that can control the clock and keep other offenses off the field in CUSA play. Been a long time since I felt this good about the UNT football program quite frankly, but our powers that be went out and hired someone who had been a HFC at the major college level for the first time since Fry (and Tyler's one year disaster many of us still don't count). These kind of hires just bring something different to the table and I know in Coach Mac's upcoming Year 3 he has been disected and bisected by so many, but like him or not, he brings that certain intangible with his HFC's background that we've not had for a long time in Mean Green Country. GMG!
  9. I think I'm now more interested in what our regular season unis are now going to look like. Any news or pics on that? GMG!
  10. North Texas alums doing business with North Texas alums. How novel is that? We can't let the Aggies have a corner of the market completely with that concept. GMG!
  11. You mean like in that scene in the movie "2012" when the dad comes home to get his family and his ex wife's boyfriend as their house disintegrates into the abyss? Is that what you had in mind, Phil, or is that maybe a bit over the top? GMG!
  12. Nice composite of several eras I'd say. Are the words "Mean Green" somewhere on these unis? GMG!
  13. Thanks, Scottie. Used to talk to J. Reeder often when he worked for Mitchell Energy over in his Decatur(?) office. BTW. that Mr. Mitchell passed away about 2 weeks ago. There was not a better Mean Green fan than John Reeder and probably still is but from a distance. I have a pic of John, SUMG, GrayEagle and myself near Fouts at a homecoming tailgate I will locate and post sometimes. It was taken during the Corky Nelson era.
  14. I think Coach Mac and Chico know this minute who is going to start the game versus Idaho; that is, barring any unforeseen hitches during 2 a days. Whichever UNT QB has that famous intangible many call "it" is who we need to start and take us the the Promise Land. I'd bet our coaches know who has "it", too. GMG!
  15. Kansas State U: Only 16 over. 500 seasons since 1960. Amazingly, caca seems to happen to other schools, too. I will keep surfing the web, but I don't think KSU comes close to .500 in their last 100 years. http://mcubed.net/ncaaf/teams/ksst.shtml Addendum: This..............Kansas State 115 year football record: 1,116 games 465 wins 610 losses 41 ties .435
  16. Good gosh we need to play a football game soon before this board self-destructs and runs out of personalities to be-little.
  17. Varsity, was that the same Jim Norton I used to watch play with the Houston Oilers? GMG! PS: WOW! Nevermind, I just "Binged" it and it was that Jim Norton. A great safety AND....punter for the Oilers. Do you care to divulge who your late father was? If not, I would totally understand. First time I saw Norton play for the Oilers it was at old Jeppessen Stadium (later called "The Rob") on the UH campus. Then it would be Rice Stadium for a couple of years and then the Astrodome. What days those were in old H-Town! In fact I will add........ THIS.....Jim Norton spoke at our (Danbury, Texas) high school athletic Spring banquet and I by golly even got his autograph! (I was in the 8'th grade then since they let our age group come to those banquets, too) Norton was a fine speaker as I recall with one of those "reaching for the stars" speeches but at least he made his speech on the subject interesting. The late Jim Norton did his alma mater, ie, the U of Idaho proud for sure. (Darn, let me check my birth certificate again to see just how old I actually really am).
  18. We have some great alums I've been missing for quite awhile now. Anyone know where any of the above are these days? Any updates on any of them? Are you looking for a fellow alum or 2 or 3 or 4, too?
  19. Tony, I'm counting on at least 6 wins or waking up one morning without having this Type 2 "D" thing and getting to go on a pizza eating binge OR........... treat myself to one of yours, Evans, Harry's, etc, etc, etc) world class brats on Game Day. Wonder which of the aforementioned will come first? We just have to win this Fall, fellers...there are no options (unless its a true, bonafide option QB of which I think we have at least one of those in camp even now). GMG!
  20. I believe I read in the FW Startle-Gram in the last week or so where TCU has lost 3 (or was it 4?) starters already? One was from over here in nearby Aledo who said he'd just had enough of TCU football. Wonder if he knows something that the rest of his teammates are going to to have to learn the hard way? Deloss Dodds of UT who had to sign off on there even being an admission of TCU into the Big 12 and that because he saw the school located off Berry Street as a Baylor starter kit which would only have their MWC success to hang their little froggie hats on for quite awhile. Coach Patt will soon want to take his traveling coach's show to a big time large public university where he can also take his retro music band talents to an outpost whose team plays before 80,000 or more fans on Game Days, too. That will happen sooner than later....stay tuned. At North Texas our recruits will be in a conference of which they actually have a chance of winning and then most likely going to a bowl game as a ranked program. At TCU you can almost guarantee that in this millineum they will "NEVER" win a Big 12 football championship. The Froggies should only check around with the Big 12 schools who haven't come close to it in all the years they've been in the league. Kinda' sad for those over here in Frog-dom in a way.
  21. Sorry, Big Dawg, I know you're a super alum and a great Mean Green fan. I just have this weird thing about criticizing the very ones who have us glued to this silly board! LOL! GMG!
  22. I know Brocks parents will be eager to read this thread. Do you guys realize that many affiliated with North Texas football (including player's parents) read Harry's board here? That, my friends, is a fact. I've cleaned up my Ned act and invite others to join me. You will feel so much better and your blood pressure may not get as high. In all the years I've posted the subject of our Mean Green players have always been off limits to me unless they were getting praise. We don't want to become a bunch of wuss's here, either, but there are other ways to direct things of a negative nature. Post about your dislike for the present shade of green we're using or our branding, but our football players should be off limits. What if they posted about your job performance before you even started said job? Just my .02 on this particular subject.....proceed. GMG!
  23. The best game I as an alum and Mean Green fan ever witnessed at Fouts Field The first game at Fouts I attended was in September of 1973. In this video, hard to believe how loud our fans were with a winning Mean Green football team at our former football home...... "acoustically challenged" Fouts Field. That one Booger Kennedy recruiting class made the bowl games happen. Another recruiting class or 2 similar would have probably made even more bowls possible and maybe with a ranked team. It was not to be. Anyone have the video of the goal post coming down in the south endzone after this win which sent us to a bowl game? GMG! PS: The below photo which with my computer "non-savvy" skills I could not get to show on this post was a 1967 crowd at Fouts Field which I believe would have been Mean Joe Greene's junior year. Of course, Mean Joe had a pretty darn good supporting cast during that eras Mean Green teams, too. Had seen the below photo before in an old UNT Yucca yearbook and thought this: If this group of students and their families were still attending North Texas Mean Green football games we would have had to build at least a 45,000 seat football stadium in Denton. Folks, we're all tired of hearing it or even saying it, but if there were ever a sleeping Jolly Green Giant at the NCAA FBS level it is still that university located in the western part of Denton, Texas, America, which now has a fabulous college football stadium located between those 2 Texas interstates. > 1967 Pic of Student Side at Fouts Field: C:Users1Picturesgallery_1221_3_100179.jpg > Bonus Pic: Here's a 'football trading card' of Mean Joe Greene: C:Users1PicturesGreene, Joe f.jpg GMG ! !
  24. My Take On The Podcast I got excited listening to the podcast. Great job, fellas! And thanks, Harry, for adding the question for RV about luxury suite sales and how they are coming along. Sounds like they are going well. RV said the suites sell themselves if they can just get those who would be prospects for such into Apogee and I'd think that would be because of what they see would be their vantage point. What a great place for a company that would invest into a luxury suite to entertain their own potential customers, eh? Rick V mentioned buying a game so I wonder how that translates as far as what level of schools he would want to buy to come into Apogee Stadium? Hopefully he will have an opportunity to talk to more schools other than the ones leaving for the AAC. Tulsa U doesn't need too much more of a Texas presence than they will already get with SMU and UH, but that is just one opinion. Having regular Apogee games with Army, Navy and Air Force would be fine with me, especially since they have a built-in audience here in northern Texas. It's summer time and all are excited about most anything but I still like the direction things are going in Mean Green Country and a winning season this Fall would get this Mean Green rocket airborne in ways we've not seen in quite awhile. Coach Mac is absolutely doing things the way Fry would have done it but why not---Coach Fry was his mentor in his first coaching gig as an assistant at Iowa. Rick V mentioned that another ex Dallas Cowboy-gone-media type went bonkers on his first trip and tour of fabulous Apogee Stadium; of course, that being Moose Johnson of CBS. Great podcasts! Thanks for sharing! GMG!
