  1. I still think former Mean Green and Kansas City Chief great Brian Waters ends up on this Cowboy team in the next few weeks or right before a the deadline to add new players. Just a hunch, that's all. Congrats to Lance Dunbar for getting such praise from Jerry Jones.
  2. Last year we were down to 1 QB due to injuries and that was DT#7. I am not going to complain about our situation this Fall at all and just maybe some of our QB's have read this board enough to want to prove some of their critics wrong. Last Fall we could have very well won 6 ended up with 4 wins but what if DT#7 had also been injured early on last Fall, too? As some of you have brought out DT#7 is in Year 5. I remember years ago TCU had a Year 5 QB whose first 4 years in Frog'ville were similar to our own QB's but in his last year he put it all together at TCU.
  3. Used to love watching the Hayden Fry Show on TV Channel 39 (?) back in the day and with Bill Mercer as the weekly show's host. (As I recall, it came on each Saturday morning at 10:00 AM). Wish List: North Texas needs a Dan McCarney Show (on TV) and be one of the first schools in CUSA with a Coach's TV show; after all, there are well over 10 million in our viewship from Waco to Longview to Norman, Oklahoma. This was the theme song used on Coach Fry's show for 6 years. NOTE: Special thanks to SUMG for remembering the title of this Maynard Ferguson jazz hit which preceeded and ended each Hayden Fry Show. The producers of the HFS used this songs first .20 seconds (give/take) for the intro and end of the show, too.
  4. August 20'th... I got mine today. GMG!
  5. Beer has too many carbs in it for me to consume. I am allowed 65 carbs per meal as a Type 2 "D" (and Type-2 means pills-- not shots) Count your blessings. GMG!
  6. Poor Brock, even before he plays in a real football game, he really has to be 2'nd guessing himself (among others as well) about choosing North Texas since he's been so analyzed, bi-sected an di-sected and all but booted off our team by some of our fan base (few of whom the younger set have ever seen a winning UNT football program; that is, more "W" seasons than "L" seasons, during each of their own respective 4 or 5 years as North Texas students. As a student, I saw 4 UNT teams either at .500 or above with some wins over some fairly impressive schools that some of our younger alums today seem to only want to poke fun at. Had their been as many bowls back then as today, well, just use your imagination. One other thing: Those who are now being the most negative fans will be some of the very ones leading the parade and waving the Mean Green flag when this football program starts winning again and with a few from that group who will even say............ "I've been behind you all the time, Mean Green, and you, too, Brock." Oh well, whatever it takes to get them on the sunny side of life again. Trust me, there is no future in Negative Ned'ville in Mean Green Country, I know because I've tinkered with all that myself as I tried to even dictate who should and should not be on staff up there. It was not a good time for this alum to be that way and I suppose gaining in years had to teach me that. Unfortunately, I was just a slow learner. With that I can save some of you some time and tell you not to wait as long. This I do know....I am a North Texas alum--win or lose-- and pretty damn proud of being one Please do consider being a bit more sensitive about our very Mean Green football players whose very presence are the reason we are all on this message board with some posters probably even getting carpal tunnel because of it and..........have a great first football season at the U of North Texas, Brock Berglund)! GMG!
  7. Just curious, but what other Texas-based NCAA FBS schools sell beer at their concessions? It would sure get more older students (21+) at the games I would think. GMG!
  8. Now that is funny and today I need to laugh. Where is Team America when we need them? Oh.... TEXAS !
  9. Along with piss ant attitudes who don't seem to care that new and potential football recruits read this board frequently. GMG!
  10. But what about the team that was 1 and 10 last year and brings everyone back? GMG!
  11. We all know the checkered past but seems whatever we do now at UNT has to be done either in the present and in the future. Yet you say we can't duplicate some of those schools you mentioned? Well we once had a fellow conference mate that pretty well did. Can you say.....Boise State? Jeez-Louise.....the sky is falling, Harry! Do we have a Homeland Security rescue plan here? GMG!
  12. Lots of Iowa State Cyclone football players's love in the 2'nd video. If we had a real, bonafide diamond (in the rough or not) at North Texas, would we trade it in for a cubic zirconia based on the emotions of the moment? Outside the last 2 years Dan McCarney had nothing to do with what has happened at North Texas and we should all try to reflect on that thought from time to time. Many of us were around when Fry won 2 games his 2'nd season at North Texas. No one was ready to hang him in effigy after that season either, but he had such name value that our fans mostly had the attitude of............"Just give Coach Fry more time to get this wrong...righted." Again, had Lady Luck (whose has been mostly a stranger to us at UNT) only smiled on Coach Mac's football team last season he would have had easily had a 6 win season in his own Year 2. That would have been an amazing feat in light of the fact that he had inherited not nearly enough of NCAA FBS level football players. Again, Dan McCarney came into a situation where there were hardly any players on scholarship and even on the very first day of his hiring he had already missed out on that year's recruiting season since most all of those in Texas take place with early commitments now. Oh Brother, Here We Go Again But..........when Coach Fry first addressed the poor Iowa Hawkyee fans that had endured decades of losing and with his first introduction to Hawkeye fans at a basketball game all the Odessa,Texas, native would utter was merely 2 words and those 2 words were: 'We'll win"......................and just him saying those words brought the house down in what I understand was record decibal breaking crowd noise. GMG!
  13. We all want to win. Some on GMG.com just express that admirable desire in so many different ways, but lest we all forget....we are all still sitting at the same dinner table and even sometimes throwing mama's made from scratch Texas-sized biscuits at each other for effect and a little attention until mama says..............ENOUGH, SONS, AND NO DESERT TONIGHT! GMG!
  14. Did the Kansas State U Wildcat marching band officials say "oh well, we've been losing the last 50 or so years (prior to Bill Snyder's arrival), haven't been to a bowl game in almost 75 so we should just sit in the stands and bore our fans to death with the same ol' songs we've been playing since the invention of the sousaphone? Of course we are not a facsimile of Virginia Tech, but after all....we are North Texas; that is, a school known to have a pretty darn good College of Music with a marching band that makes TCU's look like an elementary school rhythm band..................so shouldn't we always be tweaking & highlighting our strengths of which the UNT-COM is most definitely one of those or do we just keep highlighting our present weaknesses; by the way, a very popular thing to do on this message board of late. First of all around these parts it has been: "Well, we don't need a new stadium until we fill Fouts 20 or so times in a row so we didn't build a new football stadium; that is, until the one we had almost fell down on top of us it had so degenerated and its power grid almost un-fixable. Folks, we were forced to build a new football stadium or merely get out of the college football business at the level we all wanted. Let me add this about our UNT student body: Our entire Apogee east student side will be all but filled to capacity with North Texas students this Fall. UNT has more of its student body who come to our Mean Green football games than any other school's student bodies north of UT-Austin and some of you cannot see them getting into the swing of things with the kind of video at the top of this thread? Sure we won't have 66,000 fans at Apogee since that is a mathamatical impossibility, but our entire UNT student side is capable of making some pretty serious noise at accoustic-friendly Apogee Stadium...........ask former UH HFC Kevin Sumlin about that since he had to call 2 or 3 timeouts because our students (and alums) got "THAT" noisy during the UHouston/UNorthTexas game. So now we "wait" almost until we all but win a National Championship at North Texas before we start trying to entertain our fans with music that could actually inspire all in the stands on Game Day? Did that video Emmitt put on this thread only offend a few and cause others to go back into Negative Ned-vlle status with more...................WE CAN'T DO THAT AT NORTH TEXAS BECAUSE WE'RE............NORTH TEXAS? I don't know sometimes, I just don't know. Between poor leaders at the top concerning athletics most my entire adult lifetime and maybe one of the most across the board negative fan bases always finding excuses as to why we "can't' do jack caca at UNT no wonder we seem to not inspire more new faces to come out to give Apogee a shot. We turn them off with all this crap from...............US! After all, we have over 200,000 UNT alums in northern Texas who we seem to have turned off as to not be curious enough to come check all the new great things going on at North Texas; at least, most my lifetime we seem to have turned them off. And yes, a better overall product on an annual basis would have most definitely helped our cause, too. In spite of everything, with all the right pieces of the puzzle in place (and upon further review & reflection those pieces could very well already be in place); but with all this in running in sync every bit of this Mean Green athletic thing and all surrounding it can still take off like a rocket. Just ask Kansas State U, Post Death Penalty SMU with 20 losing seasons in a row after that verdict and bottom of the SWC barrel its last 25 years TCU if things can't change from almost impossible to quite do-able?
  15. Uh....me too! That USC cheerleader reminded me of those old cartoons when I was a kid when they brought on a sing along song and then at the top of the TV screen it would say "follow the bouncing ball"; but in this case follow the, uh, well......(use your imagination on that). Yeah, 62 alright but I ain't dead yet. It's a great song from Fleetwood Mac of which the USC band and its drum line both have a great time playing it and doing a bit of choreography to it, too, plus............the USC dance squad and cheerleaders have a few moves to this rock anthem as well. That can be seen on other YouTube videos more clearly. So.............to some of you Green Brigade'rs on this board....This: The USCTMB, ie, USC Trojan Marching Band does not own this song and it would be easy to see our award winning college marching band, its award winning drum line, the fabulous MG dancers and Mean Green cheerleaders whose past legacy includes National Cheer Championships all having a good time performing it and I'd wager that the home crowd (especially the entire student side) would get into this song big time. OK, time to take my Geritol now. GMG!
  16. Now this would be a bandwagon worth jumping on and one from northern California to boot! LOL! Good post, CaliMeanGreen ! GMG!
  17. Remember when these Aggies used mostly 2 QB's in this game and darn near kept us from hosting the 2'nd Annual NO's Bowl when UNT would beat the CUSA champion University of Cincinatti Bearcats? 18. I expect I will get mine on Monday or sometimes thereafter; after all, we have the Butterfield Overland Stagecoach line who delivers all our mail out here in the badlands of Parker County, Texas. GMG!
  19. I'm trying to reserve judgment on BB and just about everyone else on our school's football team until I get to watch them actually play a football game. Am I wrong by wanting to do that?
  20. Probably not a "Bring Out the Mean Green Into Apogee" song with this, but I do wish our fabulous Green Brigade would put this rock anthem in their Game Day repertoire.
  21. I am speechless on what I just saw in that YouTube. (Someone with connections send this video to the UNTCOM. (no words can describe)
  22. Iowa State was a rough situation for any Cyclone's coach prior to Coach Mac and you who follow NCAA college football know that school's history. No, he did not leave Iowa State over .500 but Hayden Fry didn't leave SMU anywhere near .500, either, but he was a winner who didn't give up because of that. He kept on plugging along before Jitter Nolen and Roy Busby took him aside for a job offer. Coach Mac took several Cyclone teams to bowl game"S" (plural) and beat the Iowa Hawkeyes several times in a row, too. For those who will dare take a look at last year's game results, Coach Mac's MG team just last Fall was a gnat's whisker( and a rare smile for Mean Green football from Lady Luck) of having a 6 win season (of which DT#7 would have been the QB). Outside the resurrection of Knute Rockne who better could we have even gotten at North Texas from the Hayden Fry Coach's Tree who would have taken this job with so few players left on scholarships and North Texas hardly being known as a coach's stepping stone kind of place since Jerry Moore left for Texas Tech? Yes, it's been dire of late for dear ol' alma mater's football team, but still no where near as dire as Kansas State, Iowa State and even SMU had post Death Penalty. We have many things to look forward too, folks, and in your heart you know I and many others on this message board are right about that. Coach Dan McCarney While At Iowa State. Do you seen any spot on that field you could have gotten to in the same area code?
  23. Kick-off return specialist, too? I've got my middle aged Game Belly on.....let's play some football! GMG!
  24. And all these years I thought "bird is the word?"
