It's gonna be painfully hot on Saturday
PlummMeanGreen replied to meangreener's topic in Mean Green Football
Most of the evenings have cooled down once the sun goes down like in the high 70's? One year we played Baylor U at old Fouts Field and pre-game on the Fouts parking lot was about 106 degrees. Guess it worked out for us since we won the game and I think that was the game when the Baylor's Bears locker room lost electricity during the entire half. I think it was that embarrassment for our school which caused UNT official to begin serious discussions about a new stadium, too. GMG! PS: Once the sun went down during that Baylor game the weather became tolerable looking back. Here's hoping for a nice breeze this Saturday. Drink lots of Gatorade and hydrate like all get out is what I would suggest. GMG ! ! -
Beyond the Green debuts next Friday on Fox Sports Southwest
PlummMeanGreen replied to Cerebus's topic in Mean Green Football
Day'um! All that's going on (not just this superb media & marketing tool, either) makes me believe my alma mater is once again aspiring to aim for the Big Time just like most of us felt we were as UNT students during the flying worm era. Certainly we are not close to being that at the moment, but such "feel good" perceptions is how I believe it all starts. Who said "if you think you can...you can?" Former conference-mate Boise State at one point before they made the Big Time marquee lights had to start with such perceptions about who they were and what they could attain IMHO. I loved Mrs. Orr saying (and I liberally paraphrase)..... "This is not just about you...everything you do affects our entire family." How many of us heard those very same words from our own parents at one time early on in our lives. I know at one point I had to apologize to my own family for what I felt turned out to be some very poor choices that turned completely sour (not totally on my own account) and that in my own life which truly affected me most my life to date. What affects us also affects our loved ones, right? Having that unconditional love from family means more than anyone could know. Our great Mean Green linebacker young Mr. Orr. has that from his family. GMG! -
UNT Flying Worm t-shirt available!

Was hoping for a solid apple green one like in my avatar to create more (among our fans) a "green out" effect at Apogee? Oh well, at my age I'm supposed to just be seen and not heard. Should have figured that out when I was 42, too, right? LOL! GMG! PS: Meeting a couple friends at the Apogee Ticket office this AM so I can pick up another season ticket and my new parking pass. Maybe we'll run into someone we know while there? I think Ranchmen's Cafe is on the docket for lunch, too. Oh yeah, bab-eeeeee, love those salads! -
Why Isn't Ex UNT/NFL Great Cedric Hardman In 2 HOF's?
PlummMeanGreen replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Guess first things first.........anyone have friends or ties with any Texas Sports Hall of Fame official in Waco? Never got to watch Cedrick Hardman "live" at UNT except on one ABC-TV game (versus Tulsa U in a game we won) and that when I was in high school down in Houston area, but the guy could probably run circles around some already in our states's special sports HOF. Will also point out that some of that group in the TSHOF may have never even had some of the NFL acclaim our guy did. The San Fransciso 49'ers kept records on all time sacks back then and guess who still has their all time record in that department, too? Who can we call to get this campaign started? Does our alma mater's movers & shakers (maybe along with Mean Joe) need to take a special trip down to Waco? Sometimes this kind of thing can move things along much faster with that kind of trip. GMG! PS: Isn't Cedrick part of pre-game festivities this Saturday evening, too? -
UNT fans are about to see a whole lot more on TV

"...we must get our swagger back beginning this Saturday at Apogee." Eppy (Game Day mascot during the 1970's) Maybe even this could eventually happen, too? The Dan McCarney TV Show (with an appropriate 1970'esque theme song below) -

Wonder if this was Dale Hansen's first visit to Apogee Stadium; that is, if he were actually doing this report from UNT? GMG! Attention All: One promo on the official board says 7:00 PM kick-off (with Eastern Time not near large enough) but this is a 6:00 o'clock kick-off at Apogee Stadium for those who think it would actually begin at 7:00 PM. Alright, proceed with South Korean music, Radar.

With what is still a new and most functional fan friendly stadium on campus, I really do think Rick V has been "highly" encouraged to take advantage of that and have a minimum of 6 home games every year with that (possible) edict coming from Prez' Lane Rawlins and his BOR's. I don't think RV purposefully has planned for 5 any year but you do have to fulfill home and home contracts which might leave you short 1 game of 6 at times. I think AD/RV will have to buy a school or 2 out to get us to 6 home games during any future seasons where we might only have 5 scheduled at this time. Just my .02 on the subject. GMG!

Coach McCarney said last night on his radio show that he has 8 offensive linemen who he can interchange (and give them rest from heat conditions) and that to me is a great thing as compared to when we barely had mostly the starting offensive line and that was it as far as quality goes.. Here's hoping DT#7 lights it up this Saturday evening at Apogee but if not, how many times in college football have we seen the 2'nd string QB come in, do exceedingly well and create a QB controversy (as if we didn't already have one)? LOL! I may be wrong, but my hunch tells me Derek T. in his senior year and with more receivers (who can catch the ball) puts it all together but if not....seems we have other QB talent waiting in the wings? GMG!

Surprised with UH's W/L record with the pro style offense. Of course, I grew up watching Bill Yeoman's Houston Veer which I actually think he had first developed when he was an assistant coach at Army (West Point). One of the best darn college football games ever listened to on (KPRC) radio down there was UH playing with its Houston Veer and UT-Austin's newly debuted wishbone offense (created by then UT assistant coach *Emmory Bellard). Game ended in a 20/20 tie and next thing you knew was Darrell K. Royal sponsoring UH for SWC membership. If North Texas has a grind it out offense with our RB's by committee and superb UNT offensive line (as I think they will be that kind of offense this Fall) who would object to that if we win? Of course, an occasional called pass at the appropriate (or even inappropriate) time would be fine, too. I tell you I'm pumped for Game Day in just 4 days now. 35 to 7 or 35 to 10 is my prediction. I think we find out we have a defensive line, but one that can ill afford the you know what bug. Like a new year when we all start out fresh with new outlooks while wiping the previous year's slate clean, this is a new football season so why not do the same for that, too? BEAT THE HELL OUT OF IDAHO, MEAN GREEN ! (Don't take it personal, Vandal fans). * Emmory Bellard Bio and Obit': http://www.chron.com/sports/college-football/article/Pioneering-football-coach-Bellard-dies-at-83-1688466.php

PlummMeanGreen replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Hold the board! Are we seeing 2 different photos of last night's event at Apogee of which Coach Mac said there were thousands there? Yes, I know I'm 62, in my 40'th year of following UNT football fairly closely (whether at the stadium or when not there on the MGRN) but I just need some clarification on the 2 very different pics I have now seen on this thread And do I need to get negative, too, running off prospective new faces, new fans and new students who get turned off by such and could say....damn, I'll just go home this weekend instead?. Let them have their own Mean Green experience without trying to ruin it for them, too. Sheeeesh........ All this Mean Green business is still the toy section of our department store of life, folks. There is a real world of problems out there such as that which is now going on in Syria where innocent adults & kids are dying in their sleep because of poisonous chemicals; another disease has silenced a favorite of mine Linda Ronstadt who now has Parkinsons and can't talk (least of all sing), etc, etc, etc,...........so for the love of ??????, please don't mess up our toy section, too, which gives many of us a few hours of getting away from life's problems? -
Agree....they'd be totally unable and probably almost impossible to monitor this. Do we need to get a crowd noise soundproof dugout for the visiting teams next? What would be next? They'd start separating the RINO's from the truly conservatives or the far left Dems from the moderates, too? Then how about those with white undies to those with colored ones? Briefs versus boxers? I think I'm going to bed!

Harry posted: "RV basically confirmed there will be six home games every season in football...if I heard him correctly." I really don't think RV has been working to "not" have 6 games per Fall, but listening to him on my car radio (eastern Parker County) I sensed this may have been an edict from above to get the 6 but.....I could be wrong, too. Anyone have any video of the Apogee pep rally that they may want to start a new thread? Coach Mac was fired up when he arrived to the radio show saying "there were thousands of UNT students out for this rally." GMG! Addendum since I posted: 4,000 freakin' UNT students for a pep rally this evening in this heat? I am guessing that they were probably all UNT Freshmen, right? If so, what happens if the Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors and grad students show up en mass this Saturday? I am officially duly impressed. Sounds to me like the entire Mean Green Nation is ready to start creating some new "postive" football history once again.

North Texas 35........Idaho 10 Idaho is where we were 2 years ago which was ........but the Mean Green are ready to ignite as of this Saturday evening, August 31, 2013. Mark this date down for some of your "this is when it all began" posts in the future; you know, like Kansas State fans do similarly when they talk about.....well most of you know the rest of that story. The Mean Green ignition doesn't begin until the 2'nd quarter, though, which means we will have a few panic attacks and break downs on the Apogee west side before the fun begins. The UNT students will be out in full force and will give the Idaho Vandals pure D Texas hell with their crowd noise. (I defer to Kevin Sumlin 2 years ago at our stadium's debut game who called as I recall 2 timeouts because of that noise)? GMG! PS: We find out that we have some defensive linemen this Saturday.

Dan McCarney Radio Show Begins Tonight!

EagleD, the MGRN official message board write up used to say that it had a 10 million population listening area when it did have the 100.7 FM Christian radio station which also broadcasted out of either Tyler or Longview, too. (Used to have a friend who was a DJ at Marshall (TX) KMHT back in the day. Is that AM station still in operation)? That Mean Green official write-up also said at that time that its coverage went all the way into southern Oklahoma. I'll try to find that write-up if I can, but I suppose that is what I was referring to. Addendum: Here is this: Mean Green Radio Network The Mean Green Radio Network broadcasts North Texas football and basketball games on two radio stations that cover the DFW Metroplex: KHYI 95.3 FM The Range and KNTU-FM 88.1 The Mean Green Radio Network reaches the entire Metroplex and as far north as Oklahoma. The Mean Green Radio Network reaches 10 million listeners throughout the football and men's basketball season. With pre-game and post-game shows in every broadcast, North Texas alumni and fans keep their "ear on the ball" thanks to the Mean Green Radio Network. Each broadcast Mean Green fans are entertained as North Texas alumnus and top-rated sports talk show host, George Dunham of 1310-AM, KTCK - The Ticket, provides insightful play-by-play alongside Hank Dickenson. http://www.meangreensports.com/ot/mean-green-radio-network.html -

Haven't we spent enough years hearing all the ugly? Doesn't some of all this "nice" sound better no matter how all this plays out? If someone says something or wants to say something nice about you do we have some who would cut and run first good word that came out of those doing the praising mouths? We have a few who just need to get out of this being a Mean Green martyr mode. It just doesn't play well. Sheessssh...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vL7YxIxHepI GMG! -
Well, hot damn! They will be ready for the PAC 12 after they finish their 2'nd year (as in this year) at the NCAA FBS level. (Would this really not be their next easily fore-casted move as to do this name tweak)? We should still send them a special commendation of congratulations; maybe even one from UNT System Chancellor Lee Jackson and/or UNT's main campus Prez' Lane Rawlins for having taken our place in the Sun Belt as "the only Texas-based football playing school in the SBC" (and for them to hold that honor high with pride........... yet with a whole bunch of geographical frustration due to the lack of even one state-wide conference rivalry). Just as an aside, check out your local big city yellow pages and just see how many "Texas States this or Texas States that there are. My first pair of glasses at age 12 even came from Texas State Optical down in Freeport,Texas. And of course, the Texas State Armadillos very mascot is an online resident of, uh.....GoMeanGreen.com! So Texas State in the Lone Star State is without a doubt an oft' used name. Fact is that their present HFC has tried to leave Texas State-Glass Bottom Boats at least twice that I know of for North Texas HFC's job. First time Coach Fran applied, we, uh, hired a HS coach instead. To quote one of our GMG.com posters: We have met the enemy and the enemy is us but............all that was yesterday and our yesterdays like that are gone (I do think forever). GMG!

Question for those predicting less than 6 wins
PlummMeanGreen replied to MeanGreenHoops's topic in Mean Green Football
Phil Steele's football magazine and his staff put 7 North Texas football players on their CUSA all conference teams this summer so we have some semblance of recognized talent from the experts. Of course, I think we have much more talent than just those 7, too. Then just out this week was another fairly accurate college football predictor of our school's football program even has us winning 9 games this Fall, so who the heck knows? Best thing about this upcoming Saturday night at Apogee is that we will be able to put many of our own personal questions to rest (we hope) and probably have a few new ones take their place. So sit back in those comfortable Apogee Stadium seats with the superb sight lines, maybe even be a bit more open-minded than usual about our team's prospects but moreso....just enjoy the heck out of all the entertainment aspects of what college football can really be. It's not supposed to be like a trip to the dentist. GMG! -
UNT athletics may get boost ($30.4 Million)
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Hodge-podge, Lagniape, Rules For Idiots and Dr. Phil: Henceforth, fellow UNT alums and Mean Green fans, just ignore this guy GL2Greatness, he's a Southwest Texas State Mean Maroon alum who uses his own version of the Rules For Radicals' author and formerChicago community organizer (and known communist) Saul Alinsky's methods of isolate & demonize with most all his North Texas hate/bashing comments. And all of those he's allowed to continue to dish out almost at every turn. Certainly just more Freedom of Speech at work here, but at which point does that become counter-productive and even destructive? Do any of you allow an unwelcomed stranger to come into your living room, insult your family, take from your coffers and then leave a steaming pile on your living room before he leaves while he cries............ Na, na, na, na..........na............I've got me some Freedom of Speech and your defenseless to do anything about it. Back to GL2Greatness: UNT hate/bashing GL2G also goes under the moniker "someone" on the MWC message board, too. The dude just flat gets around these college message boards. One only had to visit the MWC message board back when the subject of UNT came up to see his alter ego of namely "Someone" at work; that is, along with his spot-on and uncanny most similarly worded posts he does right here as GMG.com's resident squatter with his constant UNT hate/bashing but while on this board he so cleverly uses the name....GL2Greatness. How so very clever...well, uh, not really. So here you go,"GL2Greatness/Someone", maybe UNT alum Dr. Phil can help you some as he talks MPD's and, uh, Heavy Metal? Dr. Phil's TV patient in the video apparently has anger issues, too. Do focus on the written material on the chalk board part of this short video. AND you know what, GL2Greatness/Someone....I'm sure the Bobcat faithful would welcome one of their own back with open arms since its really time you move on from here. Your UNT hate stcick has turned to utter non-stop unadulterated message board shit and no one on GMG.com really cares how you feel about North Texas since all that has ever really mattered is...............how we feel about North Texas since most of us attended or graduated from the school. it matters because he coaches at north Texas which means that dozens and dozens of programs can afford to hire him away if they want him and when those programs have both more money to pay and better facilities to offer and they do not have promises they did not keep it makes it all the easier and the coaching world is extremely small and coaches talk and when north Texas goes to get a new coach every candidate out there will pretty much know there is a very good chance any promise of improved facilities is really not worth much so either take the job because it is more money and look to move up and on in a few years or don't take the job and wait for a place that has the facilities, cash, or that will keep their promise to you when they hire you easier to lose a coach harder to find a replacement.....other than that ir means nothing Just more tommyrot from a UNT hater/basher named GL2Greatness aka "someone" on the MWC board.- 8 replies

College Football Poll Predicts 9-3 Season For Mean Green
PlummMeanGreen replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Day'um! This prediction made me look like a Negative Ned....I only predicted 6 or 7 wins. I'll take 9! You'll take 9! Hellsbells! The entire Mean Green Nation will take 9! When was the last time for that? I think I know but I've been forgetful lately. Hmmmm? If merely a few pieces of this team fall into place then...........? GMG! -
Go back to your little froggie lilly pond. (You really do like all this attention, now don't you)? Did you get booted from the TCU board as the rumor suggests? Go visit SMU's board since I'm sure the Stangs would just love to entertain you! (Sorry 'Stang fans, but we've had enough of this one). GMG!
