Not trying to be bragadoccio Texan here but doesn't our fabulous Green Brigade almost fill the middle part of their student section by itself?

Sha A darn shame they could not have rigged it up on the Apogee Jumbotron and been promoting that all week long. I'm sure ESPN would nix that, of course.

UTSA hosting OK St at noon on FS1
PlummMeanGreen replied to NorthTexan95's topic in Mean Green Football
Did you ever run track, maybe ran a 440 or 880 (yes, I'm older) and during weekday workouts have a rabbit to help you keep your pace going forward? Well, we need UTSA to be our rabbit, but lets make darn sure that rabbit stays a rabbit for their first few seasons in CUSA. LOL! Coach Coker and Coach McCarney have both been at their respective jobs about the same amount of time. Yes, we have about 100 years on UTSA playing NCAA football but last I checked Mean Joe Greene, Abner Haynes, Burks Washington, J.T. Smith, Cedrick Hardman, Booger Kennedy, etc, etc, etc, were to the person all out of elgibility but..... ......,what did Coach Mac inherit across the board in scholies' post Todd Dodge train wreck? Yes, he inherited quite a few who chose to stay many of whom are starting today. Yet Coach Mac has (for the most part) had only 2 real recruiting classes to add to that group he inherited and build onto it, but start-up UTSA had Coker out there over 3 years ago during a lame duck pre-start up period recruiting and telling his dream to Texas HS recruits; to FCS players wanting to move up a classification; recruiting FBS transfers like crazy; recruiting players from all his numerous coaching contacts from his Miami Hurricanes era and so forth and so on AND yes..........by all means he's done a grand job for a start up program...there is no doubt about that. ..........and no, I am "NOT" preparing any semblance of excuses for North Texas because we don't need one. I do think this 2013 Mean Green football team continues to develop far more than UTSA will be able to keep up with us later this Fall when we play them and I say this...........(no matter what happens today in Athens, Ohio)...............but how many players on scholarships did Coker have his first year compared to McCarney who just this year (his 3'rd) got his 'ships up to the minimum? So in Deed....go Road-Runners! We sit at the same CUSA dinner table! THIS? UTSA versus TCU attendance today? If I were a betting man (of which I'm spot on sometimes but mostly not spot on all other times) but this.... I would bet that UTSA had more actual butts in seats today than TCU did at ACS for their 11:00 AM kick-off. PS: On the other side of the coin, how many would we have had at Apogee Stadium with OSU in town? And when we do schedule such a future match-up as an OSU is when we will kick ourselves in the pants for not building Apogee Stadium to seat at least 40,000--just 9,000 more seats than we have now. Still looking ahead, but North Texas has of yet to schedule any school who have all those great traveling fans, but I'd guess we will at some point. -
UTSA hosting OK St at noon on FS1
PlummMeanGreen replied to NorthTexan95's topic in Mean Green Football
Uh, UTSA HFC Larry Coker? Some of us begged for years to get a UNT coach that had been a NCAA Division 1 FBS level HFC elsewhere but to deaf ears, but about 37 years later they concurred (and I'd highly doubt it was because of us but probably more Chuck Neinas). And sorry, but Tyler's 1 year hiring boo-boo at UNT doesn't count with most of us. Coker has won a national championship and will not be bringing a chopped liver football team to Apogee Stadium this November for those who have penciled in that game as a no brainer-win. UTSA will continue to upgrade with warp speed to the NCAA FBS level and thus CUSA level, too. This just seems to be the M.O. for all recent upstart FBS schools of late; not just UTSA, either. -

A domed stadium and city support for a novelty product....a good formula which I hope sustains itelf. I will say UH lost interest in playing in the Astrodome and thus their high-tailing it back to campus and "The Rob" (which will always be Jeppesen Stadium to me) and now their building a new on-campus stadium which I think they should have put more quality in materials than higher seating capacity. They are building their stadium for what I think would be close to what Apogee would cost today. 5...4....3....2...1.... -
Good question. I would hope they would make the trip to Ruston when we play those "Dawgs." GMG!

And, Bill, there are enough trained musicians among our crowd that we could do an a capella version in a chorale-esque 8 part harmony, too, right? Hellsbells! We'd be doing some serious' cookin' then! LOL! (Glory To The Green is not a difficult song to sing, either, but "seriously" I think we'd have to settle for all singing in unison). PLUS...........this song would resonate with the fan'tabulous accoustics we now have at Apogee Stadium I recall in one Music Appreciation class back in '72 that UNT icon 'Fessor Floyd Graham suggested we learn our school song. Heck, "Fessor Graham probably taught the very ones who wrote our alma mater and fight songs as it is NOTE: For you newbies, 'Fessor Floyd Graham once put UNT students Pat Boone & Roy Orbison in a quartet back in the day. . They both (among others) sang in 'Fessor Grahams quite famous and well known Saturday Night Stage Shows which originated from UNT's old Main Auditorium on our campus across from present day Voertmans. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floyd_Graham I'm serious about this as I know you are, too, Bill. What better tradition than our entire Apogee crowd singing "Glory to the Green? We do need the Apogee graphics people to put the lyrics back on the screen and a la karaoke the word colors change along with the song. The graphics folks used to put the alma mater lyrics on the Jumbotron at the old but now retired lady, ie, venerable Fouts Field. Found the fight song in the below YouTube video with lyrics but could not find Glory To The Green on YouTube. Someone know where else we could find it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jcck3eepPV0

North Texas just needs to develop and improve on the traditions we already have; and yes, more winning than losing goes a long ways in helping that to happen. One of our un-developed traditions; that is.....IMHO? How's 'bout more fans in the stands singing Glory to the Green during the pre-game? I sang it word for word last week and only got a few stares. Then....to take the lead from our Mean Green football team from their ON THE GREEN TV program to sing our Fight Song at least during the pre-game show. I don't think you can invent traditions and hope for instant success as WMU seems to be attempting. GMG! PS: ATTENTION UNT STAFF: For those who need a little help with the lyrics, it would be a great help to put the lyrics of both Glory to the Green and the UNT Fight Song on the Apogee Stadium jumbotron screen like yall used to do at Fouts.

Official Ohio Game Score Prediction Thread
PlummMeanGreen replied to MeanGreenTexan's topic in Mean Green Football
North Texas 42 Ohio U 28 North Texas offense too much for the Ohio U Bobcats. Our defense still a work in progress but shows much more improvement from last week. Many coaches say a team gets remarkably better from 1'st game to the 2'nd. We need that to describe our team this evening. GMG! -
Friday afternoon football links, tidbits and thoughts
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
North Texas has 2 of its offensive linemen on the pre-season first team All Conference CUSA and a very experienced 5'th year QB who now has more offensive fire-power than many of us can remember UNT having in awhile and should be able sustain some nice offensive drives while at the same time keeping Ohio U's offensive on the sidelines. And the aforementioned description of our offense is better than not having all that since we know how that can be, too. OK, this is my guesstimate of the final score: North Texas 42 Ohio U 28- 3 replies

This being my 40'th year as a Mean Green fan tells me we need to almost have a winning season or 2 before we get the walking dead out of their "you gotta' show me more" attitude. Don't forget, we are located in the DFW "winners town" attitude part of Texas. Best part is once we get a bunch of that group hooked into all this.....our fan base will show even more growth and..................I would say this to you newbies.... .......we have had some growth with our fan base even at 8 losing seasons in a row and I credit that for the most part with our huge UNT freshmen classes each Fall. Some of you will remember a time when we would have celebrated 22,000 fans after so many losing seasons than be disappointed. GMG! Still IMHO........... we need a real group ticket sales program with emphasis on kids. As has been said.......if you get the kids--you get their parents, too.

Beyond the Green 2013 - Episode 1
PlummMeanGreen replied to ColoradoEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Just saw Beyond the (Mean) Green on Fox Southwest and one word: WOW! The quality of this 30 minute was superb! Day'um! (This was not the same show as shown in the video in the first post of this thread--maybe it wasn't supposed to be)? THIS: We've not had a TV weekly like this since the Hayden Fry TV Show but this show with more quality and a much larger audience from the Fox Southwest TV crew as one would expect. Our entire football team knows the North Texas Fight Song, too..................word for word. How many of our alums know it? LOL! Great coverage of many of North Texas past football greats from the 100 Years of North Texas Football banquet last Friday night. They mentioned how it was the U of North Texas that broke the color barrier in the mid 1950's, ie, 10 years before anyone else in the state of Texas (and for certain the Deep South). Funny lines from former great offensive lineman Bill Carrico talking about his blocking for UNT NCAAA "D-1" All American Abner Haynes. Then you had words from the great Mean Joe Greene, Cedrick Hardman, J.T. Smith, Willie Parker, Booger Kennedy, Johnny Quinn, Andy Brewster, etc, etc, etc, all some great words and memories of their alma mater. Even the Mean Green locker room wall with its blown-up backdrop pics of "filled with fans" Apogee Stadium were great to look at on this TV special. And best of all................10 more of these Beyond the Green programs to go all over the the great Southwest and the "NEW" C-USA TV network (and that is a bunch of people, folks). Even the show following Beyond the Green featured UNT alum Dave Barnett as its host. Then the show after that one featuered UNT alum Mark Followill in part of its program. Like Shoe-less Joe in that movie: "Is this heaven?" GMG!- 59 replies

The Break Down (Ohio vs North Texas)
PlummMeanGreen replied to Mean_Green09's topic in Mean Green Football
Idaho was where we were in Coach Mac's first year and probably all of Dodge's tenure. Don't we need to move on from Idaho since we have 11 more games to play? GMG! -
Mid-American Conference football Saturday: beware of upsets
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Does the crowd get to suit up, too? Yet It's their Band Day weenies that have me concerned. (And not one in our Green Brigade's Best Gol' Darned Band in the Land is a Band weenie by any definition). We matched up with them talent-wise last time we played, but isn't our overall talent level better this time? (Of course, their's may be to). Guess that is why they still play the game? GMG! -
Way to go "Big L!" Always a good and well informed, poster, too. GMG!

Ohio Football previews North Texas Game (Video)
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
At 2:13 on video I love our Texas Longhorn transfer's catch and run for a TD. The skinny on him: WR - Darius Terrell (6-3, 225, 4.5) DeSoto, Texas (University of Texas Transfer) Played in nine games for Mack Brown at Texas in 2011 ... redshirted and gained valuable experience on the scout team in 2010 ... a Parade All-American who was rated as the state's second-best tight end by Dave Campbell's Texas Football as a prepster. _______________________________________ Anyone else beginning to like this team's possibilities and capabilities for this Fall (and beyond)? Wish List Request #1: Please don't play too conservative--play to win, not to lose. Open up stops and go for the gusto! Mean Green/Eagles catch lightnin' in a bottle again just like the good ol' days--.like that eagle in the avatar! The Ohio U Bobcats will still be tough at home. Oh! And its Band Day on their Game Day Saturday! God help us all if they turn all those HS bands loose on us, especially all those tuba sections! GMG! -
Yes! Yet I do think in our case it will take a winning season before we get that groups attention, El Paso Eagle, but so be it if that's the case. A win over a truly major program (again) will really cause us to have to enlarge the bandwagon a little quicker, though, but...........one step at at time. As Joe Kennedy told his his sons, “it's not what you are but what people think you are that counts.” Yes, many of us have heard this quote most all our lives, but what about the perception part being all about exactly who you are? I suppose at that point it no longer is perception, right? Go Mean Green !

Brian Waters gets a second chance with the Cowboys
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Sure we're all biased over here, but what a story Brian Waters has been and has become now but now....in a Cowboy uniform. Is BW working toward a NFL Hall of Fame career? Enough All Pro years? Had he played in New York most his career he'd be a cinch. GMG! -
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, if we had a 2 & 0 start that would (IMO) assure that we win a minimum of 6 games this Fall.

Dave Campbell Who Will Over/Under Achieve ?
PlummMeanGreen replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
DT/#7 looks to me to be a half step quicker and will tuck the ball and run which is a good thing and he did just that the other night. That seemed new variable from our QB will keep certain aspects of defenses honest, too. I am trying to not be too over-optimistic since its a road game and Solich has been at Ohio U awhile to build some depth, but I will say I like our chances moreso than any of us did last month. If we come back to Apogee next week at 2 and 0 that would be over-whelming in light of recent years. GMG! -
Answer: Slippery Rock U, Rick? I have no earthly idea and never knew there was another possible site for Paramount's NR. Sounds like yall had a blast filming this movie, though. Very impressive with all the former NFL greats that came out of the prison bus scene onto our old practice field near Fouts Field. As I recall, Dennis Parker was even in that scene, too. In FFR's above pic, one can also see drex's fraternity project of painted seat floorings on the student side of Fouts Field. I always thought that was a great idea, drex, if I hadn't told you that before. GMG!
