  1. Does Tylor Perry have 2 more seasons of eligibility after this season or did I dream it?
  2. I’ve like Stadium broadcasts for UNT football & basketball. Not sure why they are getting a bad rap. Does Stadium ever cover AAC games or are they all ESPN broadcasts?
  3. I never saw Cincinnati when they came to Denton with Oscar Robinson at the old Mens Gym, but at the Super Pit many of us saw: •••UAB’s Gene Bartow, •••Louisville’s Denny Crum (UCLA’ John Wooden’s former #1 assistant) •••DePauls Ray Meyer, •••Memphis Dana Kirk •••UT’s Abe Lemons, •••UH’s Pat Foster, •••Texas Tech’s Gerald Meyers, •••Lamar’s Billy Tubbs & 🔷🔺SMU’s Sonny Allen (with over 10,000 Mean Green fans of which I’d bet 65% were UNT students & a couple SMU frats. 🟢⚪️⚫️UNT Coach Grant McCasland & the Mean Green deserve no less than 10,000 for Saturday weeks regular season finale game vs. the Bulldogs of La Tech. (Guess I better get my ticket while I can). ❇️🦅❇️
  4. AAC Commish’ Aresta is on top of all this it seems.
  5. So what we’re looking at is that it will be the same P5 schools in the Top 10 with or without NIL, right? So in effect—nothing has changed? (Great stuff, Arkstfan) 🦅
  6. I have no idea, TCE, how Wren Baker is going to handle NIL. UNT has several multi-millionaire alums in its nest. (With 300,000 UNT alums it only makes sense that we would, right)? Right now I think AD Baker is trying to raise big bucks to finish out the Athletic Center expansion that will benefit all varsity Athletes, Men & Women. Would love to see a rendering as to what that will look like since WB tweeted months ago that it will also be tied to the South End Zone of Apogee Stadium. 🦅
  7. DeAndre Torrey can also turn on a dime. His “zig-zag-stop” & then run for a TD against UTSA is a classic.
  8. And the school who said each of their offensive linemen would get $50K was the one down in Austin. (I bet DKR is turning over in his grave with what’s going on in todays NCAA). 👍Thanks, Arkstfan, you’ve come thru again. I had misconceptions of NIL that you have totally cleared up. Thanks. Still…isn’t it obvious that about 25 schools in the P5 group benefit & the rest could hang out to dry? And then the G5?😪 🦅
  9. Need more like Tylor Perry in MeanGreenLand. Very impressed that he only wanted to come to North Texas to play in the Super Pit.
  10. Love this pic, but I do not miss Fouts Field. Looks like Interstate 35-E is still new’ish. I had a cousin from West Columbia, Texas, attending TWU when they put in I-35E. North Texas probably had about 7,000 students when this photo was taken.
  11. For those who may not know, @Arkstfan is a lawyer with (IMO) very balanced & sensible ideas concerning matters of the NCAA. Like many of you, I see NIL as an ender to the NCAA for what used to be intercollegiate amateur athletics (for the most part). Stipends for each athlete are OK, but giving the bank away to 18 year olds is not OK—IMHO. 🦅
  12. Just More Scatter’shootin & Chasin’ Those 🐇‘Wascally🐇’Wabbitts 🐇 Yes, RBO79, it would be the ultimate & total ender for many of our fans. I can remember back in the 70’s when it was just a few million dollars that separated Texas Tech from UNT with both school’s respective athletic budgets, but that era has passed. Texas Tech had Preston Smith’s influence in Austin to help lead their school into the SWC Promise Land back in 1956. Who did UNT have? The Friends of the (Willis) Library? 🧐🤓🧐🤓🧐 🐇(Off subject, but has anyone else noticed how many decades it’s been since Texas Tech won an “outright” conference championship in football)? 🐇What schools in the SEC make in annual revenues would help toward underwriting what Wren Baker wants with the Athletic Center expansion along with the Apogee Stadium End Zone facility. (I do wish we could soon all see a rendering of that). 🐇Like the IPF, though, UNT will have to rely on a private donor(s) financial gifts to get one built now. (What else is new)? I’d liberally guess that figure to be around $50 million. *Again, with the Athletic Center already built, that project has unofficially begun. 🛏 Thanks Mattre$$ Mack! 🛌 🐇 Honestly, you can’t blame SMU for wanting to be among those schools conference-wise they were with forever, but like any school’s fan base it is the fans interest (or lack thereof) in their athletic program that will determine its future. Both UNT & SMU have much work to do in the attendance aspects of all this, but for UNT that’s where our constituency numbers will help. Since I was a UNT student post-Texas Indian depredations era, we’ve only had 4 above .500 football seasons in a row. Like that Russian uttered with his heavy accent in the movie “2012“———-“Not good.” 🐇 I do think if a ranked opponent coming to Apogee & the Super Pit that UNT would do more than fine at the turnstiles. ❓And who doesn’t think we draw at least 8,000 rabid fans if a #8 ranked Houston were to come to Denton, especially now with Coach Grant McCasland’s basketball program? Mac has something very special happening over on basketball row inside the Mean Green Village. A larger UNT student audience would be good. 🐇Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah—Grant will have other schools checking him out (probably already does), but I don’t think bigger money at a “do it now or get canned” pressure cooker of a job will cause him to leave. Seems we all hope legacy-building in Denton will cause him to stay. 🦅
  13. He was upset that DD was fired a few weeks after the coach had had a heart attack. That’s been so many years ago.
  14. Oh what OU & UT Hath wrought. I’m trying to sort that & NIL out. What will be funny is when a particular G5 school “out-NIL’s” many of the P5 Big Boys & then wants to join their conference. Politics at every level stinks, but that will never change I’m sure. •••Anyone remember Denton’s Tom & Jo’s Diner? They had a great hamburger, club sandwich & BLT.
  15. They should leave early—wish we could.
  16. Lots of Aggies on the Gulf Coast. I worked construction at Dow Chemical (Freeport) one summer & thought Dow was a Texas A&M Experiment Station (of which there was one of those 4 miles from where I grew up between Angleton & Danbury). TAMU has half a million former students & I’d bet most of them live in Texas. As most on GMG would know McIngvale gave North Texas $1,000,000 toward the Athletic Center. Wren Baker probably needs $50 million for what I think he wants to do to expand the AC, but at least that part is already built.
  17. If there is I’m sure Smatresk &/or Wren Baker initiated it. I thought they did pretty good with the 2 families whose names are on the Indoor Practice Facility. Jim just bet almost $5 million on the Bengals.
  18. Hilarious vintage store commercials from UNT alum Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale’s Gallery Furniture. Mattress Mack is very involved with the Houston community as featured in the Texas Country Reporter video below. Some of us started watching Bob Phillip’s video trips all over Texas when he was employed at Dallas’ Channel 4 (KDFW) & his show back in 1972 was called 4 Country Reporter. Enjoy.
  19. Joe should have been put on a UNT salary with the title UNT Ambassador because that’s what he’s been. Hope he’s pickin’ up other percs in Denton. Joe Greene’s statue ceremony & more. So darn proud of the Mean Green Nation that day. Many NFL celebs there that day. Here is a pic I took of Franco Harris an hour before the unveiling. Being an old Oiler fan since 1960 I confess I got a little teary eyed when Earl Campbell came out of Apogee on a walker, but what a great day all. Photo 2: FFR & Son JOE GREENE’S UNVEILING CEREMONY
  20. Jerry Levias. Fry recruited him from your old home area, Deep Green. Levias & the Baylor guy (Westbrook?) were first Blacks in the SWC—10 years after Abner Haynes & Leon King came to North Texas.
  21. Amen! We need more such wins soon. (What happened to the TAMU & UH games postponed because of Covid)? I watched the UNT-Arkansas game over in Argyle & what a nice, peaceful drive back to Weatherford it was that day.
  22. Wait until the “how much did he get vs how much I got” locker room talk begins. That will destroy some teams.
  23. Exactly… (Not sure this Jeannie can be put back in its bottle, though)
  24. I would take a wild guess that the Abner Haynes Story is unknown to most present day UNT students. It shouldn’t be that way, though. At last count I believe Abner to be 84 years old present day. I know UNT AD Wren Baker is up to his eyeballs with alligators as he feverishly is trying to raise Big Money to expand the Athletic Center (which was originally underwritten by Houstonian Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale) & as to expand it out to be an Apogee Stadium End Zone Facility; but (still) a statue of old #28 (preferably) on the Apogee student side has to be do-able even if Lamar Hunt, Jr. along with his UNT alum mother (Norma) helped in making such a statue happen. In this radio interview by a couple KC Chief’s super fans one can meet the real Abner Haynes that most of us have known for decades. 🦅
