  1. Tenureship for that UNT prof'! (Am I dreaming this actually happened at our alma mater)?
  2. Wrong kind of mosquito bite? I'm sure the Bells of St. Mary's will have rung and healed them all by Game Time. And why not? Don't we want to play them at their best?
  3. Not really taking anyone's side in this latest rhubarb but............. In 1999, La Tech beat an Alabama Crimson Tide team which finished in the Top 5.....here was La Tech's W/L records for the next 4 seasons following their win over 'Bama. 2000: 3 & 8 2001: 7 & 5 2002: 4 & 8 2003: 5 & 7 All you who post decide how big that "Bama win was for our conference-mates from Ruston (albeit I'd take a win over the Crimson Tide no matter what happened during the next decade). I think the key is to recruit good every year and to win, win, win, every year, too. http://mcubed.net/ncaaf/1999/latech.shtml
  4. Now when we get our perennial football attendance woes addressed and fixed, then that is when I'll be the first in line to contribute toward a statue to be erected in RV's honor because (quite frankly) that is the one thing (other than too few wins) that will keep our football program barefoot and pregnant if we don't solve that problem and soon would not be soon enough. Attendance shortfalls at North Texas will be the final frontier for our leadership to provide a formula to conquer. that is, it will be the final Big Challenge at U of North Texas that so few athletic regimes in our past have wanted to have a face to face encounter. Why is that? In all fairness, I think because it's just too big for one department most likely and that is why the UNT Prez' and his BOR's should be willing partners with AD Rick V and the UNT athletic dept. to fix our football attendance. More annual TV appearances (some even nationally like the one in just 30 days) at Apogee and our Mean Green football team as the star attraction even more reason to git'er fixed soon. As I look into the NCAA re-alignment (which for the G5 will apparently always be around) and even ability to schedule the Big Boys at home crystal ball, it is so easy to see how UTSA will have choices that North Texas simply won't have largely because even in their Year 1 they came out of their turnstiles starting blocks smoking while drawing more fans than SMU, UH and UNT and getting national attention while doing so as our alma mater, well, uh..........................and just how has your family been of late? Still..........why we making a mountain out this attendance thing every year in what should really be a mole hill, especially with our humongous UNT home base and entire UNT DFW constituency? This should be a slam dunk, quite frankly. GMG!
  5. With the MAC's very voter-friendly regional bloc of media leading the way, can't we all but be assured that Ball State's loss to North Texas has kept them out of the Top 25 polls up to this point? I hope CUSA's "media friends" will be just as amiable when our league has an undefeated team at this juncture (and beyond) in the future. GMG!
  6. Do we pull out the flags next time we play Ball State? Or maybe we play 2 below football? 2 Things: (1) The Mean Green D did hit quite hard trying to separate our opponents torsos from the football. (2) Have you ever seen the Texas heat wilt a team much like it did to BS in the 2'nd half? (Amazingly, but our team had to play in that same heat, too). And how many weeks ago was this game? Oh well, some of us still talk about the 88' UT game so we can't go there.
  7. LOL! You have to admit it was much shorter than most. In your own year 40 of this, CW, you get ready to develop some of your own facial expressions, contortions or worse, some form of turret syndrome that will have fallen upon you like a curse! First..this: North Texas is not the only school in Texas and in the G5 who has had attendance problems. Some ex SWC schools who during their own losing cycle years also had attendance woes, too, and I can re-produce links to prove such for those schools. If not for their own SWC opponent's traveling fans at their respective stadiums, their attendance woes and large numbers of empty seats would have been even more obvious. TCU had terrible attendance back in the 60's and 70's and a big part of the 80's for that matter. They used to daily pray: "Thank you Lord for all those Longhorns, Aggies, Red Raiders and Bears fans for coming to our stadium." So North Texas does not have a corner of the market with the subject of attendance. Personally? I don't think any school is really making hay at the NCAA FBS level unless they are averaging anywhere from 35K to 40K per home game--minimum. Well, some of us don't yet have stadiums to meet those kind of numbers but we really should. It just behooves logic that no one seems to want to address our attendance problems head-on. That will be the only way it will ever be solved if we're really interested in solving it at all and I think we really are. When and where do we get started in doing so, though? On the other side of the coin, we also have to remember that all this still has the template of 8 losing seasons in a row in MG Country which makes its difficult from that standpoint. SMU's most aggressive Mustang Mania promotions effort worked quite well and for them with a bad football team at first and before they started doing it the wrong way with their recruiting practices, but promotions had nothing to do with that part of their program. Still at UNT, it almost seems with some that if they ignore the problem and/or all the fans/alums concerned with it (as some have been for more than just 1 or 2 past athletic regimes) that that subject & those who post about it will go away? Well, we're here to stay, it's "OUR" school and we ain't going away until Gabriel blows that horn (which for some of us is sooner than later). We will have decent crowds for our remaining 2013 CUSA home games but "only" if we fulfill the time tested/time proven UNT constituency--based formula we've seen for about forever which is: "If they win so and so game, then I will go to the next home game."...........................Question is: What if we "lose" so and so game, then isn't that the time when a good serious number of butts in seats promotions would have become even more important for a game that has lost much of its luster because of a loss the week before? Unfortunately, we sure do depend on our HFC and football team to carry the load on whether we will have good attendance from one home game to the next, now don't we? Effective "butts in seats" promotions would take that elephant off their backs where it shouldn't be in the first place. OK, time for the meds... GMG!
  8. Since the high tide of most impressive attendance numbers has given UTSA so much national attention, why can't we of North Texas ever admit the obvious with our own shortfall and then do something about it? Is it fear of failure of not being able to effectively reach the masses? Well, doesn't empty seats already confirm that failure already; so, uh, start "fearing" already? To fix this will not be a "UNT Athletics Only" venture, but either that department or Prez' Rawlins and his BOR's need to come up with a viable plan because we really do get too much bad ink on our turnstiles count. Many on this board have all but said.........WE VOLUNTEER TO HELP but..............who do we volunteer to that won't kick us in the teeth for trying to help "OUR" alma mater solve this problem? We all take this quite personal when other CUSA schools kid us about our attendance. Are we alone with that, too? Why have a nice fancy car to show off if we don't have wheels on the damn thing? ______________________________________________ This post and link bumped up for one who told me he could not find it; especially the DMagazine feature article part on a school who got serious about putting serious numbers of fans in front of their football team to support it. A good football team like the Mean Green deserves no less after reading most all your posts in this thread. Dammit! Sue us for wanting "OUR" team to have large numbers of fans in front of it as to support it. None of us really have no other hidden agenda or dog in this fight whatsoever other than....we have a damn nice stadium that just needs more fans in it on Game Day. Somebody...........Anybody..............please address and.................FIX OUR PROBLEM........PRETTY PLEEEZZZZZZZ ? Question: Why has SMU's attendance gone back to days of old? Possible Answer: Because they stopped promoting with real "butts in seats" kinds of promotions like in their Mustang Mania days? How many of us envy what UTSA is doing at the turnstiles (and has the family jewels to admit it on this forum)? ? Maybe North Texas should merely choose 2 particular home games each Fall that our powers perceive might have the kind of attendance the Ball State game produced (while embarrassing our entire constituency) and just start with serious "butts in seats" promotions for those 2 games? Is Mustang Mania Horsefeathers? Want a "pack em' in" football stadium promotions program for UNT? Well, roll up your sleeves like an entire army from SMU did as the link describes: http://www.dmagazine...sefeathers.aspx GMG!
  9. Oh Rudy, Rudy, Rudy! LMAO! Now would "THAT" be a great ESPN Halloween Jumbotron trick or treat for all the nation to see at the Rice game on, uh, Halloween Night? (Jeez, I'm just a'kiddin' with that).
  10. I want a Tshirt with Mean Green Mutha' From Outer Space on it..................NOW!
  11. Yes, JRock! I am happy for Tulane's OOC success and I'm also happy that we don't go into the SuperDome (or whatever its called) thinking we are going to play St. Mary's Sisters of the Poor and then our getting a knot put on our heads. This much improved version of Tulane is really what the doctor ordered so now we just need to go down there and take care of business and make all these upstart CUSA schools and (still) NCAA FBS newbies from the old Sun Belt eat even more mud pie and to understand they are seeing a North Texas that they even never saw in the old Sun Belt (and some of you know exactly what I'm talking about with that). I want North Texas to get back to the days of old and become CUSA's new Chairman of the Board and get back to having a ranked program which would come along with that title. I Want Domination & For North Texas To Never, Never, Never Take Any Prisoners............PERIOD, Gosh' Dang It ! GMG! PS: Has TCU alum Bob Schieffer (of CBS) had a stroke which has made him completely brain dead and unable to function on the air any longer?
  12. Almost too good to be true if it plays out this way. I think the P5 guys know that G5 would support most (or all) legislation if they (or we) would want it. What at this moment in time would the G5 not want that that the P5 wants? The P5 gang probably sees more power with numbers by including the Gang of 5. And aren't most of the G5 commissioners in favor of some semblance of stipends already? I think if even nominal stipends became the rule that that would have made some schools wish they'd remained at the NCAA FCS level. Remember the old NCAA 1-A requirements? Here's a variation: Also always believed if the NCAA FBS would have required a minimum of a 40K seat stadium with a 20K per home game average once every 3 years (that a fair fail safe for a rained out home game season) with a minimum of 5 home games that would have kept some schools from jumping up as quickly as they did (and would make others hustle to get those minimums). Addendum: No neutral site stadium attendance would count, either---you have to make the attendance part work on your campus (or a stadium at your school's home city). A 40,000 seat stadium? UNT would only have to add 9K more seats--not a deal breaker at all for us.....20K per home game average once every 3 years? North Texas is already on the cusp (I like that word) of the attendance part, but I guarantee others are not who should not be at the NCAA FBS level in the first place and I will not name names.....yet. (The MAC would have to do some serious work on the 40K stadium size, though, as I recall most of their stadium sizes). THERE! I SAID IT! (a Mark Levin oft' used phrase). GMG!
  13. Jack, you remember when Fry was at SMU and the year (1965 or 1966?) they won the SWC they had a 5'7" QB whose name as I recall was Inez Perez? That Fall there were a bunch of "Perez to Levias" completions. GMG!
  14. We'll see... http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/writer/dennis-dodd/23874003/faculty-athletics-representatives-formally-proposes-division-4-for-ncaa
  15. Good Lord! Who is going to be at this game besides me and a handful of friends? No students='s a TV ghostland or..................a full student section will become our version of the 12'th man. No Band Day, no Scouts Day, no Military Day, No Denton Chamber of Commerce Day..............Heck! Doesn't our favorite college football team deserve better than this? If so, why isn't something more than lip service being done about it? GMG! PS: Dallas Cowboys: 8 & 8 this season if that

  17. Posted less than 1 hour ago by SUMG 2-13 is not a good road record (under D Mc) but here are those 13 losses: OOC: Georgia LSU Bama Kansas State Ohio Houston Tulsa and conference losses on the road to: ULL ULM WKU MTSU FIU Arkansas State And, I think every one of those conference teams we lost to on the road....went to bowls the year that we lost to them. So if you're gonna keep throwing out the 2-13 road record.....it should be examined more closely than just the record __________________________ Still, winning on the road is an acquired taste that needs to become a regular good acquired taste experience We all hope that the road menu provides a good tasting experience for our Mean Green. And who out there ever thought that most all our CUSA opponents would have not been getting it all together by the time they would play North Texas anyhow?
  18. Did all you good folks read "Cliff Notes" on every required reading novel to keep from reading more than a paragraph (or two or three) from all those great, uh, classics? Brevity seems to make some of your's pant legs go crazy; you know, like, uh, Chris Matthews? Do you only go to churches where the minister only has 10 minute sermons, too? (I am being tongue in cheek for those who don't know it).
  19. "I've got twenty bucks!" (quote of the great Greg'o Willimas, late of "The Ticket" and "The Fans" where he is today, no one knows except..........."The Shadow."
  20. We are not yet so strong a team that we have no one to overlook.
  21. On 2 different occassions Coach Fran was my #1 choice for the UNT HFC's job, but I am content with the direction Coach Mac has us during his Year 3. Coach Fran at his past jobs seems to get early success then boogy on to larger stadiums, larger crowds and larger paychecks. When Coach Mac gets his success at UNT I don't see him leaving us near as quickly. At age 60, that may also slow down his decision to leave. If Coach Mac ever had such a choice for another job, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see how disappointed he is with our fan support and how that could help him make a decision to leave--Fry mentioned that as a reason for him to leave us; hence, some of us posting all these significant "butts in seats" promotion ideas to prevent "THAT" from being a reason for a coach to leave. In other words, there is so much more to all these put fans in Apogee promotions posts many make to the level of ad nausem than meets the eye. GMG! If TSU were smart and savvy about such things, they would make a big push to get into the MWC; that is, if they haven't already started that process. If SMU and UH sensed TSU was going to do that, then I think that is when they would start their own push for MWC membership. It is no secret that much of the MWC wants some kind of Texas presence. UTSA would be one of their prime areas of interest, too. If North Texas the last 30 plus years would have, uh, well...............never mind. .
  22. Like someone said... ..."you may be better or you may not be better than your opponent, but main thing is that you are better than your opponent on the day you play them." (OK, that someone was Brad Sham on "The Fan" just minutes ago). We are not a juggernaut of a football program at this point in time IMHO...on any given Game Day with our CUSA opponents, we could win any of those game or just as easily lose some of them, too. When we become a juggernaut, it would become very likely that we would not lose any of them. GMG!
  23. Watching this game, too. MUTS looks pretty doggone' salty to me. I don't see North Texas blowing this team away, but I still like the fact that this game will be played before a good home crowd at Apogee Stadium. Our crowd and Apogee's 2'nd to none accoustics can really be the 12'th Man at this (or any game). Ask ex UH HFC Kevin Sumlin what even about 28,000 fans at Apogee did to cause him to call about 2 timeouts he had not planned using. Their RB is a danger every time he touches the ball. Whatly their kick-off return guy will have to be double checked by our special teams or..........kick it away from him best you can. Hope our team's development improves as each game goes by. I don't think the Mean Green have come close to having played their best game yet. GMG!
  24. Highly possible, quite frankly (and I know, don't call you Frank). GMG!
