  1. I propose this new play for the Mean Green offensive playbook at timeline 2:08 on this video. Any of you ever see this play done like this?
  2. We get knocked down--but we get up again! Who's YOUR Team? Mine is in the above title. BEAT da' MUTS!
  3. The Manager of Weatherfords main street Fuzzy's swears it, in fact. I went by in-person so he could "show me" that they could get our game. I watched him scroll thru with his remote control and it showed our game at 2:30 PM. Fuzzy's has "Direct TV" as compared to Chilis Charter Cable TV. In fact, Fabian (the mgr) said "IF" it were chancy' that the game would not be shown that the Direct TV screen would have said................."Call Direct For Subscription Info' and I personally witnessed that it did "NOT" show that message at all. Then............he programmed our game as to where the TV it will be shown on will immediately switch to the Tulane/North Texas game at 2:30 PM sharp! Guess I've got a little 'doubting Thomas":( still left in me with the Chili's experience but this manager seemed pretty sharp about cable sports things. Fuzzy's has 6 giant screens and the manager said.............. "I WILL PUT THE NORTH TEXAS GAME ON WHATEVER SCREEN YALL WANT IT ON & MAYBE EVEN 2 SCREENS IF YOUR CROWD DEMANDS IT." I told him that we really did not have time to get the word out but maybe this will help a few of us to see this game "live" who would other-wise have only our radios to listen to the game. GMG!
  4. ....and the other Chilis manager on duty today said.........maybe so....maybe not or maybe even a "no." Continue reading as to what happened here. Mean Green 93-98, what is it about these sports bars anyhow? Your premonition proved to be spot on correct. First of all: My apologies to you who had plans to come . If you've ever made a mistake you'd know how I feel right now. I may try Fuzzy's on Main Street, but their parking area is so small and they love their Horned Toads a bit too much for my liking. I had already tried FFR's and my mutual friend Roger Grizzard at his "The Pizza Place" eatery on main street since he allowed us to host a nicely attended New Orleans Bowl viewing party there back in the day but good ol' Rog' told me he did not have FCSC. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED (and even still a chance our game will be on at Chilis-Wea'ford but not worth the chance to see if you can get another spot to watch). (I only wish Manager #1 who said "Game On" yesterday would have told me yesterday what Manager #2 today told me today, quite frankly, and not sure why she didn't). AND THEN...........THIS: I just called for final confirmation on this and the "other" ChilIs Manager on duty today says: We have Fox College Sports Central alright and it shows your game but it will be a game time decision by Fox execs (who in their credit Chilis actually called); anyway, the 2'nd manager told me it will be a game time decision for Fox to choose to air the Tulane/North Texas game or not. Sorry, gang, I did give it the good ol' college try, though. PMG
  5. Jack, a very sensible response (as always from your keyboard) but I am mostly happy that the "UR" part of the thread title didn't throw you off your game and completely throw a monkey wrench into your day. Beat Tulane! (And does everyone realize that this will be the first time in our history that we will have played a school that has a "wave of water" as their mascot)? So what do Tulane fans have for their yells? Maybe something like: "Drown the Mean Green" or......... "No hangin' 10 on our Wave?" or......... "Don't dare take a wee on our Wave?" or .......... "2 Feet...4 Feet...6 Feet a Green Wave, All For Tulane Get Nekid'--Let's Skinny Dip & Holler?" (Any of you got any "special" TU yells of your own)?
  6. Yes....in fact, I had one of the managers pull up that cable channel to verify they had it since I told her it was not on many basic plans with Charter. I asked her to roll the guide...she did....and it showed our game on it. I just have to believe her I suppose. GMG!
  7. Chilis Bar Manager Brandy says "we'll set aside a place for all you Mean Green & Green Wave football fans in our bar area." Come One--Come All, All Ye Mean Green Fans! Tulane Green Wave fans welcome, too. (UNT fans are quite civil with those southern manners, of course). ______________________________________________ Weatherford's Chili's Directions (or MapQuest it and very EZ to get to off I-20) (Chilis in Lowes/Target Shopping Center general area yet just off the service road) 128 East Interstate 20, Weatherford, Texas (76087) Off I-20 past Jerry's Chevorlet; take Granbury/Main Street/51 Exit); stay left on service road about 1/8 a mile then U-turn over I-20 going back eastward....Chilis just off right side of service road and quite visible. Go to bar area about 30-60 minutes before kick-off. You'll see some of us dressed in green. Don't Forget To Wear Your Green Since You Will Be Among Friends! PS: Heading out now to DJ a wedding so yall have a great Friday!
  8. For All You Newbies' in MG Country and GMG.com: 2 of what would today be toward the very top of our all time greatest wins, ie, North Texas versus NCAA National Championship contender Arkansas in 1968 and UT in 1988. Both of those games were stolen away from us by not the players but by the refs. Granted, many traveling fans fuss about being homered most any game they are on the road, but those SWC refs put new meaning in the term being homered or "home cooking." We do need to win one of those kind of games at some point and maybe if the players on the field are the ones who determine that we most likely will. GMG!
  9. It gives me the same kind of warm fuzzies a summer feel-good movie gives me.
  10. I'm getting air sick just looking out "YOUR" seat window, Harry.
  11. A win gets us more momentum and growing fan excitement than we've seen since the bowl era of last decade. One loss in CUSA West does not necessarily eliminate our team. So lets make it easier on all concerned by..............WINNING!
  12. 15,000 seats? If no significant sponsor, gate receipts wouldn't pay for even 1 of the teams air fare. Must be something else not being mentioned yet.
  13. Yes and yes... Highland Park HS Band won our 1'st Annual and Last Annual Bands Over Texas Band Day on a Game Day back in the 80's but I'll leave it at that; that is, Band Day. (Not sure if I've mentioned it but Band Days really do make a great significant butts in seats promotion. Actually, I think I have mentioned once or twice or thrice....(I'm 62 now and tend to repeat my self, repeat myself, repeat myself.... SUMG thinks that with my increasing age that my telephone voice has even gone up an octave or 2 and I sound like Glen Campbell back in the day. Now "THAT" is a bad sign. (And God bless ol' Glen, he's fighting althzeimers). GMG!
  14. Honest-to-goodness, it has been a long time that I can remember one game that's so important for our program's progress as this one and a game we really, really, really do need to win. Private school trash talk? Who is suprised with that? GMG!
  15. Hayden Fry once recruited a kid (Mark Snyder) with less height and weight than Mr. Whitaker and called him a "goat ropin' son of a gun" or was it one of those..... "I'd recruit him in a New York minute" quotes, SUMG? Help me man because I know that you'd know for sure! Welcome To Mean Green Country, Deonce! GMG!
  16. What I was afraid of... If cancelled (rather postponed) I guess really too late for a neutral site? GMG!
  17. THIS: The Mean Green "D" slobber-knocks young Montana all the way into Row 1 Seat 13 with a clean 'no penalty' hit. (I swear to ya' that I'd hate to play on any offense against this Mean Green "Defense"). THIS: DT/#7 has the best game of his North Texas career against the Green Wave and in our CUSA debut game. THIS: We get our running game back with the addition of "Jim-Jim" as he comes back strong with all his other fellow RB's by committee. THIS: Brelan Chancellor breaks a kick-off return for a 99 yard TD and 1 punt return for 6, too. (And...........this will be the last time that Tulane will ever want to schedule the U of North Texas Mean Green in most of your's and my lifetime). The forecast for a Nawlin's based tsunami turns into a mere 1 foot wave for the, uh........ T u l a n e G r e e n W a v e North Texas 42 Tulane U......20 GMG! PS or an 'Out There' Speculation: Due to the hurricane and with a 12'th hour decision this game could be post-poned.
  18. Happy Birthday, fellow alum. Nice cake, Harry! GMG!
  19. Too late....we should have been doing all that "Big" winning the last 30 years rather going into "brain freeze" and a direction-less mode. Leadership's waffling of our football program thru all those years has us where we are today rather than where many our our former Missouri Valley conference-mates went--which was upward. Those former MVC mates included Houston, Louisville, Memphis, Cincinatti, Tulsa, Kind of like the old saying..."you reap what you sow?" Well, we sowed 12 of our last 30 plus years at the NCAA D1-AA level which was not the end of the world but it was one helluva' perception-kick in the butt for our alma mater and so many of our grads who became UNT alums back during all those decades. Might they be the largest part of that 200,000 plus DFW alumnus group who I'd wager many of whom may not even know we have a (still) a new'ish LEEDS Platinum certified college football palace stratetically located between those 2 Texas interstates? (Surely they'd notice it if they ever drove north of DFW). I hate all this, but lets still see how it all plays out. I would also hope that the G5 execs, ie, commissioners have one sharp lawyer pleading our case UNT would lose with all this but not as much as BYU, UH, SMU, East Carolina, Boise, Air Force and this list of similar schools at the G5 level could be longer. GMG!
  20. me'thinks for the balance of the 2013 season that they're all important. Just my .02, of course. BEAT THE HELL OUT OF TULANE! GMG!
  21. Let all of em in D.C go home and get real jobs and try to remember how working a legit job feels like again. Of course, they'd all leave their celebrity status and lifestyles behind in D.C. so that might make things rather tough for some of them. If 800,000 goverment employees are designated non-essential, then why the hell we towing the rope for their boats and subsidizing them? I thought we had a money problem in this country. We keep printing it to make it look like we don't and to delay the inevitable. God Bless America! And damn those who want to change it to something that looks like eastern Europe. Why some want a used beat up Ford jalopy when they've been driving and riding in a Cadillac most their lives beats the hell out of me. .
  22. One winning season and one bowl game should do it every time for any G5 HFC. -sarcasm tag here, too- Ask another coach at an NCAA FBS school who took his team to 4 bowl games in a row how it got him a bigger job. (I still feel badly about posts I cannot walk back about my opinion of DD's coaching job toward the end of this tenure but never was anything ever close to being personal since you sorta' need to know one personally for it to get to that level). Why worry about things none of us have any control whatsoever? North Texas is still most of our's toy section of life and one that is hardly worth a gray hair, a lost hair or an ulcer. BEAT TULANE*BEAT THEM SOUNDLY! GMG!
  23. You are right....we "NEVER" could use that old SWC home game windfall of 10,000 plus traveling fans coming to any of our home games since we were never part of that conference. Those in the old SWC who had that luxury should have used that same luxury to build their own fan bases. It seems some did--but it is very evident that some did not. Best case scenario is when we put 31,000 North Texas fans into Apogee (most do-able for those with "can do") and tell our opponent's fans...."sorry, but you will have to watch the game at a local sports bar." Almost funny (or moreso uncanny) how we could travel almost 20,000 fans down to UT-Austin back in the day and then not have many of that group come back to our campus on Game Days today.. Some of you have told me the same about our "NO's Bowl Game alums/fans" where it might be said they only showed up for those 4 bowl games last decade and haven't been seen since? Other Fouts Field Memories With Crowd Shots: http://www.meangreenmap.com/fouts.html# Where are many of these North Texas fans in the above (filled) Fouts Field student section pic today? There are similar "filled student section" shots during the Mean Joe Greene era, too. Where are they, too? (And no "they're in Greenwood Memorial Cemetery responses, please)." NOTE: Notice in this pic that some UNT students are sitting in the grass area of Fouts Field. Yet all of the above pictured UNT fans had kids, grand-kids, great grand-kids, etc...Surely the Mean Green bloodlines would continue on down their lineage in size-able numbers? UNT had about 6,000(?) enrollment back in 1960 when this picture was taken) The North Texas player wearing solid green (or black in this pic) is NCAA Division One All American Abner Haynes, of course.
