  1. The below pic taken at Amon Carter Stadium during a Big 12 match-up last Saturday: This quote from that school in Cowtown's HFC: “When I started here 16 years ago we had 16,000 people in the stands,” he said. “…I think, always, you talk about you’d like to have it a little bit better, but just like we’re growing as a football program going into the Big 12, I think you’re also growing and understanding as a crowd how important they are for us to have a home-field advantage and win. It all takes time.” Patterson vaguely touched on the idea that college football teams feed off their fans perhaps more than any other teams in sports. (And then these words for our UNT constituency to consider) “Everybody needs to understand for us to get where we want to get to, everybody’s going to need to buy in,” he said. “There’s not any in-between. Fans, players, recruits, the city — everybody has got to be there if we want to get to where we want to get to.” http://www.star-telegram.com/2013/10/14/5245878/tcu-notes-frogs-face-two-rested.html
  2. Welcome to the board. I like your enthusiasm and will try like I always do to not throw cold water on it, but.............we didn't sellout our new stadium's debut game against UH (who brought about 4K fans of their own) in 2011, so what do you know that we don't know that makes you feel we will do it this time around? (And in that regard, I really hope you do know something we don't know). Trust me, sig381, I hope you are 100% right about the UNT/Rice attendance figures but (2 weeks before the Rice game) we would have to be out there right now selling the hell out of that game and promoting it like never before to reach 31,000. Not saying we are not doing all those things, but just going on our history here. Nevertheless....Here's to a sellout for the Rice game on Halloween Night of which I'm bringing 3 new guests from Parker County along with many other posters on GMG.com who are loading their own buses with friends, too!
  3. I remember first time we ever played them in Ruston how the concensus among many (especially in Louisiana) was how they were going to slobber-knock North Texas since we had beaten them the year before at Fair Park Stadium (Shreveport) 14 to 8. I think many of the sports scribes favored them, too, back in that day. (Quite frankly, La Tech has most always had a much better promotion of self importance propaganda machine than North Texas could ever dream of having). La Tech had only just a few years earlier come up from the NCAA "College Division" level and were going to be world-beaters. North Texas would just be another school in their way of that; somewhat like you get the same feeling of many of their attitudes toward North Texas now reading their BB&B board. And the final score of that game in Ruston back in 1977 was: North Texas......41 La Tech U..........14 With both as NCAA D1 FBS level programs, I believe North Texas still has a 4 W/2 L advantage. Who cares what we did against them when we were wallowering around at the NCAA D1-AA level. (See what I mean with all that 1-AA business of which we spent one full generation)? GMG!
  4. 1-AA was more about perception than anything. We had one of our best seasons in our 100 year history as a 1-AA school, ie, 1988. Joe Kennedy once told his 2 oldest sons that perception was what people usually based most on, though.
  5. Lets have a winning season before we pick which bowl game we want but.. ....some from Tulane want the Heart of Texas Bowl game which if CUSA Commish' Brit Banowsky doesn't stop that cold in its tracks from happening I don't think he'd ever hear the last of it; all this contingent on our team being bowl elgible, of course. Still........Tulane in Dallas? Just look at how many they bring to SMU games to get a good barometer of that. North Texas playing Iowa in Dallas (if we got lucky with that matchup)? One could get carried away with how many long lost Mean Greeners would come out of the wood work if that ever happened. It would be such a huge wake up call for long dormant DFW area UNT alums and a generation of UNT alums we lost during our years at the 1-AA level. GMG!
  6. I've seen some very well attended Scout Days at other college football locales but not at North Texas.....yet. techdawg88, you are really a great & loyal college football fan and I admire that.
  7. And you, alone, are the very reason I want some kind of tunnel for our football team because of it being the reason you attend. Seriously, I think UNTLifer had a great idea on this 6 posts above this one. Plus............I've already been drilled by one this AM on how this tunnel thing and awkward ill-timed team entrance by our team is an old subject. Guess I was busy at the home playing shuffle board or was merely busy with arts and crafts while others were already posting on this subject? Like I said on a prior post, this is probably #101 on the list of 100 priorities, but I know now that I'm not the only one who has observed this. I'm a musician (whose most proud grade in all my years in education was a "B" I made in private trumpet lessons at the UNTCOM); plus I'm a DJ, so trying for some semblance of perfection is not so unusual by our weird group, right, CW? GMG! PS: Still, one on-the-field cue person with a 2 way radio waiting for orders from the press box would solve every bit of this eternally.
  8. Had my Radio Shack head phone radio on for the last part of Gosselin's interview with Jub on the Mean Green Radio Network and he almost sounded like a cheerleader for our football program saying.........."once the wins start happening here regularly the crowds will come." ......(BTW, ain't winning so nice for a change)? Well, I think Gosselin was partially correct with the attendance assessment because we've had winnining seasons before without SRO crowds so..........................P-R-O-M-O-T-E !...this is still the DFW Metroplex of which our school is located with 1,000 other things our casuals & borderline fans can do on Game Day. Wish it weren't this way...but it is until we once and for all change this culture. GMG!
  9. Yes! One convert! Eat your heart out Billy Graham! (And I say that with not one iota of disrespect to one whose Parkinsons and his approaching 100 years of age has all but silenced him at a time in our country's history when we don't need that silence).
  10. bump...
  11. Again....I posted it last Summer or Spring on this forum that beer sales would actually sober some of our group up after they come inside the stadium. Get some state of Oklahoma lower alcohol beer and just don't tell anyone. Designated drivers might become important if we do start selling beer but that can be promoted, too, on the Jumbotron. I don't drink anymore because of Type 2 "D" but I see no problem with it at Apogee.
  12. What we have is fine but just needs a little bit of co-ordinated tweaking? Just "one stadium attendant with a 2 way could go down on the field and tell Coach Mac and the team the exact second to start their run since they have a marching band in front of them as well as cheerleaders and the Junior Mean Green Club. Last Saturday we had this start.....stop......wait a second....NOW...........thing going on...it did not look to be organized at all (and this is not the first time for that, either). I DJ weddings and coordinate Wedding Party's Grand Entrances all the time so maybe why my interest is seeing our alma mater perfect theirs? None of this is Coach Mac's or our fabulous Mean Green football teams fault at all. All they need is one field 'cue person' coordinator to, uh, well, "coordinate" their Grand Entrance Last Saturday, they were almost on the 30 yard line before they made their final (is it now?) all out run thru what was left of the spirit lines and that because no one seemed to be telling them when to start their official entrance (and that preferably) beginning at or near the goal line like in the below YouTube). Anyone think someone had to tell these Miami 'Cane players below as to when they needed to start their entrance?. And the inflatable tunnel bit only to spice things up a bit with fog machine smoke coming out of the tunnel? Between the Athletic Center and Spiriki there is lots of empty space which creates a "no surprise" entrance for our team. This is about the silliest damn post I've posted in awhile but lest we forget, this is still show business and our trying to make a big impression to all our newbies, casuals and borderline fans as to caused them to want to come back for more similar entertainment next Game Day. After all, most all of us would be at Apogee Stadium on Game Day even if our team made their grand entrance all sitting on hump back camels. I assure you, my last post on this subject because we know it has already received way too much attention on GMG.com for it to be seriously considered! LOL!
  13. All "stuff" aside, CW, I do wish you much future success in the field of your choice. I do remember meeting Dr.Robert Ottman at the UNTCOM back in the day who I believe had text books in your chosen music specialty unless being in my 60's has further clouded my memory and cognitive abilities. This board is a good sounding board for us all at times and we (including yours truly) need to be more respectful of that. Some call these forums "smack boards" but we all probably need to do less in the smack and attack department. Nevertheless, good luck in all your future professional endeavors, CW and.... GMG!
  14. Of course for us it would be "eagle droppings" eh? And to CW: Hippity-hoppity right down to your local pharmacy and purchase some extra strength chill pills for yourself, dude. And while chilling....you mind to your business and I will mind to my business, comprende? (You probably should have changed your major at some point just reading all the sarcasm, sardonic non-humor and bitter crapola in most all of your posts of late). GMG! PS: I don't really have to add to any of this but I will......my attorney (a TCU and TWC Law School Grad) and long time friend says I am following all the present laws that a DJ service should follow and FWIW...I pay for every download I have of which I presume they will disburse the royalties from all of those "purchased" tracks accordingly. Meanwhile..............back to the subject at hand?
  15. Some of these eatery/bars will tell you they have a sports cable station with our game but some of us found out they actually don't. You almost need to go down in person for verification. But..........if you have a Fuzzy's in your vicinity the one that showed our Tulane Plus Refs game in Weatherford were very congenial and they had about every sports cable station under the sun. The manager at our local Fuzzy's even said "just tell us how many screens you want the game on." I will watch the La Tech game in the comfort of my living room this time around as I have "The Dish" and UNT90 said all was A-OK with that and after further review.....he was right. GMG!
  16. Football team entrance tunnels plus YouTube samples: http://www.cogswellcreations.com/helmet_tunnels.htm or this.... http://www.bigproductionsinc.com/sport_tunnels.htm
  17. Turn drex loose on this project and he'll spruce it up as well as have it "nationally TV ready" for Halloween Night!
  18. http://www.kntu.com/stream/live/player.html
  19. Usually the Lone Ranger, but I am bringing 3 guests from Parker County! Gotta get em' in the stands on Halloween Night, folks!
  20. What channel on The Dish? Fuzzy's is OK, but I prefer my living room.
  21. ......Interesting...since that has not always been the case but now explains to me why we don't ever see college marching bands on camera anymore. Back in the day, both school's marching bands would be featured on a TV half time. Thanks once again to all you legal eagles and PC types all over the USA. You've worked your most unique special kind of magic once again and have further taken the fun out of what used to be real inter-collegiate Americana. A Designated 'South End Zone' Team Entrance Cue Person?: That is, someone from the Apogee staff who will go down on the field (with a 2 way radio in hand) and serve as the cue person with a cue most likely coming from one in the press box. This "official" cue person whose job would be to tell Coach Mac and his team the exact moment they need to begin their pre-game run onto the football field between the Green Brigade, Junior Mean Green Club, cheerleaders. etc. etc. etc double line. The Long And Winding.........Inflatable Tunnel? Can we start putting on our Apogee wish list for a long tunnel-like canvas for our team to come out of (with smoke machine fog and all at the end of that canvas tunnel)? College football is for most of us a very serious part of our entertainment dollar but it's still also Show Business, too, so enter............ ..........an inflatable tunnel for the south end zone at Apogee? We've all seen many of these portable tunnels used at many NCAA FBS level schools for their team's grand pre-game entrance. Our present open air entrance leaves much to be desired so lets spice it up a bit? Remember.......Show Business? Right now our team's entrance looks a tad awkward & un-coordinated since there seems to be no "cue person" on the field to tell Coach Mac and his team when they can begin their run thru all the spirit groups double line. How many TV games in past decades have we seen an on field "cue person" literally holding on to the head football coach's elbow and then giving him and his team the go ahead? Yes, probably #101 on a list of 100 other priorities, but one that doesn't seem so complex that it couldn't be addressed and who knows, maybe even before our nationally televised game versus the Rice Owls? GMG!
  22. Darn great ideas, Adman! Not sure the our fabulous Green Brigade will want to sacrifice a possible national TV video opp, though, for karaoke and I love karaoke; in fact, I use it in many of my DJ gigs. Has President Rawlins decided to call off classes for this all important Game Night (if they are still thinking of doing that at all)? Closing the cafeterias is a great idea, too. GMG!
  23. What would be your own award winning promotion idea... ....which would get the most groups out to Apogee Stadium on Halloween Night in 2 weeks when we play the vaunted Rice Owls on national TV--and possibly play them to reach the all important Win #6 which could catapult our favorite college football team into a bowl game? MIne (but maybe not so much award winning): Get all the Denton County churches that have Halloween or Fall Festivals for their kids to come to Apogee instead with a reason that makes it worthwhile for their doing so; that is, with special incentives once they are inside the stadium. What incentive might that be..........maybe one o f you can expand on that? If we get the kids, might we get at least 1 of their parents, too?
  24. After our stint in the Cotton Bowl in 1981 I swore I'd never go back to Fair Park for any event there and I haven't. I really wish ex Dallas Mayor Laura "too liberal to function" Miller and her City Council would not have stiff armed Jerry Jones who wanted to "only" spend $1 billion plus out there for his new stadium and all the other percs to revitalize that part of Big D but that was yesterday and yesterday's gone For a bowl game against the Iowa Hawkeyes (can you say...nirvana)......or even Indiana U I would break that Fair Park "no show" streak. U of Iowa ? I can still go back to that cold December (1978) morning when I lived off Walnut Hill Lane (Irving) and when KRLD sports announced that Hayden Fry had taken the U of Iowa job. I almost fell out of bed with that announcement because for some strange reason I knew things were about to dramatically change for Mean Green football--boy howdy did they ever; but now I feel so much better than ever about how high our present HFC from the Fry Coaching Tree can take this Mean Green football program with ranked teams toward the top of my personal wish list as something I now see as do-able (again). GMG!
  25. We're all understandably antsy' about road games. Next 2 weeks can help cure some of this. In these 2 weeks away from Apogee I hope we sell a bunch of tickets for our Halloween Night nationally televised game. We really need the TV cameras to pan the stadium and see fans (and kids) all over the place. GMG!
