LIke your style, forevereagle! And yes! I will take full blame if this idea goes into the crapper! Just try it or some variation of it but this..........It's not really my idea at all, its more of a request for a repeat performance of the Pep Rally held during our first Game Week (vs Idaho) as seen in the photo on this thread's first post. IF...........that many Frosh at that Pep Rally show for the Rice game, then most of the Apogee east stadium will be at full capacity. We have a large number of our best fans who are not going to be at Apogee on Halloween night because of it being a week night and grandchildren or children who have their own school festivals. I have 2 such tickets given to me from one of our best alums/fans I've known most my adult life and 2 of my own season tickets that at this point will have fans attached to them on Halloween night, but that is just 4 fans. I know many of your are bringing so many more, too. Looks like we will need all pistons running for us to get a good crowd for national TV. It's like this, folks, our coaches, our team and even we fans/alums need good things to start happening to us at the turnstiles, too. Our favorite college football team is doing their part....we fans/alums just need to do ours. We can do this. Think Halloween Night At Apogee Stadium!

not too sure Tulane or anyone wants that New Orleans Bowl
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
UNT90, you are trying to win an argument that you cannot possibly come close to winning with your always non-stop negative posts. And then you get pissed at many of us for calling you out on every one of them; that is, those that we choose to read knowing what we're going to hear from you...again). I know...it's now time to isolate and demonize the one who is telling you all this as what so many others (than just myself) think about your (always) negative posts. We've all posted a less than positive post from time to time, but most of us eventually come back to the high road. You see a dark cloud for every silver lining post that any of us post. There is really something deeply wrong with that. If this is all about getting attention, is this the kind of attention you really want? -
Snowy, you think TAMU has a corner of the market on cheer practice which they call "yell" practice? Aggie yell practice at midnight does make them different than the rest of us at the NCAA FBS level you are correct in saying, but maybe someone needs to explain to some of us the pic of a UNT Pep Rally at the top of this post? Didn't the UNT cheerleaders during that 100 degree plus evening introduce new cheers to new UNT students? Snowy, we appreciate you and all our UNT students with many of your UNT student predecessors who were signifcant players in making Apogee Stadium possible with their passing of a referendum back in the day. Yall have mostly been supportive most Game Days for of a football program that has been going through a pretty rough patch the last 8 years. Today's UNT students are now part of a turnaround many of us old pharts have been waiting on for a long time. Again, the UNT students showed up nicely for the last home game, too, and are to be applauded for that but I assure you....other NCAA FBS schools other than TAMU have Pep Rallys (none of us dare call them...... Yell Practice) and at those events have worked on their respective school's cheers with the cheerleaders. Such rallies are usually the way new students learn their new school's cheers, quite frankly. Snowy, as you know, we have a great student body and I think the plan is for Apogee Stadium for a very crucial and important CUSA Rice U game is toactually be one, giant Halloween party. Best part of this, though, is that this Halloween party will be on national television. Few other student bodies in the NCAA will be able to say the same thing on their campuses this upcoming Halloween night.. You are a great UNT student, Snowy, as to come on this forum and express your opinion which is a good thing. Stay on the high road, though, at all times because the air is much better at that stratusphere. GMG! Think Halloween Night At Apogee Stadium!

not too sure Tulane or anyone wants that New Orleans Bowl
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
What do you call reality, UNT90? We're all ears to hear that. If you gave North Texas $1 million during your lifetime you've undone that with $2 million worth of negativity which tends to run off "would be" fans and "would be" recruits who read this forum and believe me....they read this forum. Norman Vincent Peale has a great book you need to add to your library but moreso.........read. And no one wants to hear from all you "Martyrs For The Mean Green" thru the years who used to be positive but now take the low road in most everything they say or post. Yall have no idea how counter-productive all that is with especially those we'd all love to see filling the Wing Zone. Think Halloween Night At Apogee Stadium! -

Are you going "Negative UNT90" on us, 97and03? At times it seems you are with what you post. And how does.............."Big difference in alumni and fans" even fit here? Is it that some get more attention when they go against the grain on this forum? -
not too sure Tulane or anyone wants that New Orleans Bowl
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Following all of this for 42 years I say that we do. GrayEagle, what do you think? Heck! With about 1/4'th the UNT constituency we have today it was back in 1976 we traveled what the Austin American Statesman said was about 20,000 Mean Green fans down to Austin to play the Longhorns. Do the math and then add in all the extras. We do. GMG! Think Halloween Night At Apogee Stadium! -

17K to 20K traveling Mean Green fans down to the Big Easy to play U of Louisiana or... 30,000 plus Mean Green fans coming out of the DFW Metroplex (and beyond) woodwork from every direction to play (we can always dream this >>>>).............the U of Iowa Hawkeyes in a game with so many feature stories surrounding it because of the Fry Coaching Tree Connection and Coach Fry himself that you'd lose count. Hey! Bottom line of all this no matter what happens is: AIN'T......WINNING......FUN?!?! GMG! Think Halloween Night At Apogee Stadium! -
4 SEASON TIX & PARKING PASS FOR RICE
PlummMeanGreen replied to edcollopy's topic in Mean Green Ticket Exchange
Sorry yall can't make it, but fully understand: NORTH TEXAS OFFICIALS: WE ARE GOING TO HAVE MUCH OF THIS ON HALLOWEEN NIGHT WITH OUR REGULARS! IT COULD BECOME EMBARRASING ON THE WEST SIDE OF APOGEE, IN FACT... ...WE TRULY HOPE YALL WERE PREPARED FOR THIS TO HAPPEN BUT STILL HAVE A FEW ACES UP YOUR SLEEVES TO REPLACE ALL THOSE WHO CANNOT MAKE IT UP FOR A WEEKNIGHT GAME AT APOGEE AND ON............NATIONAL TV TO BOOT! Think Halloween Night At Apogee Stadium! -
not too sure Tulane or anyone wants that New Orleans Bowl
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Any bowl for our Mean Green would be nice since it's been awhile but wouldn' this be a kick in the pants this bowl season if: Tulane (and all 500 of their fans) came to Dallas and its HOD Bowl to play Iowa and North Texas went back to New Orleans to play a Sun Belt team? (Albeit I don't think 'pride and ego would have us turning down a bowl game if asked no matter which bowl it would be). O Lord, please don't let this scenaio happen although we'd be most grateful for a bowl game...so don't take any of this wrong, OK? Amen. Think Halloween Night At Apogee Stadium! -
.......NT Frosh could have a "We Bleed Green" Cheer Practice starting around 5:00 PM or 5:30 PM before the 6:30 TV kick-off. ( Of course, we do not have "Yell Practices" at North Texas. now do we). Name it whatever you want to name it but this would also get an early crowd inside the stadium (not our specialty of late) when the TV people scream......................Lights! Cameras! Action! And this idea won't cost our students a $5 T-shirt (still a dandy promo idea IMO) on a night we need masses inside our LEEDS Platinum certified as well as world class intercollegiate football stadium since................... THIS.................Apogee Stadium, UNT and Denton are all 3 going to be under a high powered national TV microscope come Halloween Night. Put as many clusters of ideas together as we need to pull this thing off is what this 42 years fan of Mean Green football is thinking. GMG! PS: We cant' afford to have a TCU Amon Carter Stadium entire empty side of fans stadium moment like the Froggies had at their Kansas game 2 weeks ago; that is, at our North Texas/Rice Owls nationally televised game, folks. (I'd would post that pic of ACS but I don't have that pic to post). Think Halloween Night At Apogee Stadium!

Paging Quenton Brown..Paging Quenton Brown
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Play him now! (Or, you know, more like this Saturday). Don't want to sound so crass here, but we probably need him and his talents now for the finish topped off by a bowl game (as well as the additional 'ship his graduating this May will give us, too). When is the last time in NCAA football did the initials QB not mean Quarterback? GMG! PS: I thought it had already been said that he would not be elgible for another RS (not matter what variety). -
A Happy Birthday salute to a great alum, always loyal Mean Green fan and public service professional, too. GMG!

Come on, 97and03, some of us all but grew in in the shadows of the UH campus. Rice & UH were prominent in our 2 major newspapers back in the day, ie, the Houston Chonicle and the (RIP) Houston Post. Other than the 2 other obvious PUF schools in the SWC, that is all we read about or viewed on H-Town Channels 13, 11 and 2 back in that era, too. At this point I have a love/hate type of thing going with UH, but I have to admit I still keep an eye on what they do. I don't think Harry, myself and others on this board who grew up with the Coogs' and the Owls and really mostly being closet fans of theirs now are going to make any difference with their recruiting success (or lack of) against us because until our school takes ahold of its destiny and moves itself up the totem pole, the recruiting pecking order in Texas will pretty well stay the same or as it was when the SWC was still in business. Yet like our former conference mate Boise State changed their NCAA place in the world on their own, we need to do the same thing here in the Lone Star State. Local media veteran Norm Hitzghes seems to think we can do just that with some of his past comments. GMG!

Update on Rice/Halloween game promotions...
PlummMeanGreen replied to Christopher Walker's topic in Mean Green Football
How is this superb idea and promotion being marketed to the masses (who we need at Apogee every Game Day); that is, all the ones who are not member/posters of this message board or Mean Green Club members? Great idea! First time I've heard of it. GMG! -
Update on Rice/Halloween game promotions...
PlummMeanGreen replied to Christopher Walker's topic in Mean Green Football
Honestly, I think the UNT student turnout for this game will be fine, especially if Dr. Rawlins pronoumces a decree that: "All classes show up at Apogee for one giant masters class!" In a perfect world, I do wish our powers that be would have hooked up with the all the Denton County Chamber of Commerces as well as the one in Gainsville as to push this game since I believe it will be the east/press box side that will need the extra help for a Thursday night game. Casepoint: One of our greatest alums & contributors who doesn't reside in the Denton area gave me 2 of his tickets along with their pre-game buffet option and that because of their prior commitment to be with a very young grandson for a Halloween activity. LIke Emmitt said in an above post, this game has been on the docket for quite awhile now whereas there was at one point more than ample time to plan something that might actually bring out more group beyond the UNT student body. I am keeping my fingers crossed that there has been a top secret promotion going on all the time (behind the scenes) that we don't know about which will bring produce a 'lights out' crowd for our Mean Green football team. After all, this is all about our alma mater's football team and not for a couple of feathers for someone's resume hat, right? GMG! -
Guess that (empty) crowd shot photo that went viral online; ie, the one taken at the TCU/Kansas game at Amon Carter Stadium was the clincher! And this verbal commit loss leaves North Texas with only about 160,000 other Lone Star State Friday Night Heros to develop ties, then with some of them who will give us early verbal commits knowing most will follow through and honor those commitments. That an admirable trait they will be able to build on in most their lifetimes when their college careers are over and their careers begin. We should wish him well, dust our feet and move on. GMG!

Southern Miss Fans Talking North Texas Game
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I believe it has been posted elsewhere but C-USA really needs a strong (Top 25) Southern Miss football program back in play as to get all of our conference school's perspectives and the right kind of goal-setting all in place. Said it last summer, but I don't want North Texas to only have good CUSA football seasons because everyone else in the league are having piss poor football seasons. I do think, though, that our strong performances against 2 contending MAC schools this Fall indicate that we have a pretty darn good football program in progress now no matter how down CUSA is in some quarters. :PLUS............. I really do believe North Texas now has a HFC with Dan McCarney who will actually set Top 25 as his personal annual goal for his football teams. I believe this season is the first step of that journey. If I didn't feel that way about our coach, then I would not be so much on his bandwagon as any coach we've had at North Texas since my student days during an era when Dan McCarney's ex boss at U of Iowa was making some serious consecutive winning football seasons hay in Denton. PlummMeanGreen replied to UNTLifer's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I suppose you lost me on the hats part, but I whole-heartedly agree, UNTLifer, and know exactly where you're coming from. Thru the decades, we've most always had our UNT social climber types among us who want all to know of their (usually) self proclaimed high importance as to all but be the very reason their existence and association with U of North Texas is what keeps our alma mater's very infra-structure in place. We've seen them come...we've seen them go thru the decades at North Texas. A splash here, a splash there and wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-------G-O-N-E! And never, ever post about the passing of an owner of a pro football team who once owned an AFL/NFL franchise located on the Texas Gulf Coast (a part of Texas where many of us on this board were reared and still have interest with news from down south) lest you be targeted with condescending, sarcastic remarks coupled with back-handed sardonic humor from some of that most special, elite crowd. Not sure what some of their actual goals and objectives in doing such are, quite frankly. Still (and always) we will all sing Glory To The Green when the Green Brigade strikes up the song & that's a good thing. Nevertheless and....with that out of the way.....this: BEAT THE HELL OUT OF THE USM GOLDEN EAGLES ! ! ! -
15,000 TWU students at their main campus in Denton? If so,I had no idea they had grown to that size of an enrollment. TWU students should be courted by North Texas as to come to our Game Days but I don't know if any real serious well laid plans to do that have ever been put in place. This Halloween Night Would be a good start. GMG!

Many North Texas Exes are from the Gulf Coast of Texas and know very much about Bud Adams; that is, all of us Baby Boomers on up. Amazing timing? That he would die within days of Bum Phillips and that they were the same age. (Is 90 the new 70)? to http://blog.chron.com/ultimatetexans/2013/10/titans-owner-bud-adams-dies/?cmpid=hpfc RIP, Mr. Adams. GMG!

Some older alums would remember when Tom Landry and his staff, circa 1965, thought they were going to get fired and how D.C. owner Clint Murchison showed them by giving Landry a new 10 year contract. Seems that paid off for the Cowboys and would be the very vehicle which would allow Tom Landry to have an NFL Hall of Fame coaching career. Had they fired him--Landry may have gone back home to Mission, Texas, and sold insurance. If Coach Mac had not done what he pulled off at Iowa State (a Kansas State 2.0 kind of football program before Bill Snyder), I would not be as enthusiastic as to say............give the man a contract extension now. Just some things in life you just have to have a 6'th sense about as to discern. GMG! Think Halloween Night At Apogee Stadium! GMG!
