I hear what your sayin' meangreenthirteen but I assure you a win over these Rice Owls would be pretty darn impactful for the entire UNT constituency and community. We will not have played so big a home game now in over 10 years. Wonder if The Marching Owls Band (THE MOB) will be at Apogee Stadium this Thursday? Think Halloween Night At Apogee Stadium!

Hey! Don't read this freakin' thread unless you have totally run out of things to gripe about. Good Golly Miss Molly! Someone got a gun aimed at your head making you read it? Uh,,,,,,duh? Nevertheless.................Beat USM! ....but meanwhile......... here is a YouTube video excerpt of that biggest game at our campus whose win would get us a bowl invite and here ya' go kiddo's I'll do this for you.......-10 plus.....milk & cookies begins in 10 minutes. __________________________________________ I Love This North Texas Mean Green Moment By the Great Booger Kennedy & Company! Of course we're not and sort of why I prefaced the first post of this thread with....."I know we have USM in just a few hours but....?" Don't tell anyone but I've even looked beyond the Rice game to create many "what if we win so and so game" or "what if they lose so and so game" scenarios, too. Now if Harry puts a "no posting about future games other than the one this week" clause in his message board rules then I will follow that, but until then....I'm going rogue (and what would be so new about that with me)? I know we have USM in just a few hours but our next game after tonight will be just 5 short days away. Our 2002 game against the New Mexico State Aggies of which after that Mean Green victory thousands of North Texas students & Mean Green fans stormed onto the field heading toward the south end zone to tear the goal post down in celebration. It was quite a sight to see that some of us even participated. What a game that was against the Aggies back in 2002. Still my favorite UNT home game in 42 years of watching or listening to Mean Green football. The game was drama-filled throughout with many exciting and memorable plays for all of us who were there to witness. The "DEE-FENSE--Clap! Clap! DEE-FENSE--Clap! Clap!" entire stadium yell resounded with decible levels few of us had ever heard in decades of watching Mean Green football at old Fouts Field. The scoreboard lead changed back and forth. That game made many of us nervous wrecks. We pulled it out at the end. (As I recall, the Aggies also alternated 2 very good QB's during much of that game). I know we all hope our Rice game this Thursday night will (somehow/someway) have similar results. North Texas Fans Celebrate A Bowl-Clinching Win! ...............Will History Soon Repeat? Do they have the "Fuzzy's" food chain in the Houston area? If so, they have every sports cable station available and the managment here at my local Fuzzy's is very congenial. They usually have about 5 or 6 TV screens, too.

This is the way you start building a beyond the borders of Denton broad-based fan base. Great job, Dr. Monticino! Hope we see some of these kids in the Wing Zone on Halloween Night @ Apogee. GMG!

Derek Thompson: Chasing Greatness
PlummMeanGreen replied to MeanGreenD's topic in Mean Green Football
Agree, MeanGreenD.,hats off to Derek Thompson.. As Derek Thompson goes will determine how far in the wins column this team will go. Our "D" may not be able to score a TD or pick 6 when we start playing the upper crust teams of CUSA of which USM is not this year. Keep DT/#7 in a quick pace and don't slow that pace down. I think he will over-come his opening game jitters as the 2'nd half of our season begins. In our team's 1'st offensive series at USM, PLEEEZZZZZ.....no screen passes but let him roll out but do have a pass in that 1'st series unless the running game takes off and becomes unstoppable. With our great offensive line, that is possible. GMG! -

Streaking North Texas guarding against complacency
PlummMeanGreen replied to jredallas's topic in Mean Green Football
I've been right about North Texas and I've been wrong, too, but for the life of me I don't see Dan McCarney letting this Mean Green football team get complacent. Maybe after we've had 5 winning seasons in a row in Mean Green Country the team gets complacent 1 or 2 games, but that's about it. GMG! Think Halloween Night At Apogee Stadium! -
MGB: Q&A with Jason Munz from the Hattiesburg American
PlummMeanGreen replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
And based on just what do they think they are going to beat a bunch of mostly former Texas High School Friday Night Heroes; that is, a team who could in all reality at present have a W/L record that includes only 1 loss and that loss against an SEC team (Georgia)? ISN'T THIS THE REAL PROBLEM FOR USM ? ? ? The USM crowd are bitter because they got "Left Behind" in an NCAA conference re-alignment version of the rapture with all who left them (and Rice) for the AAC. I think Tulane and all 500 of their fans getting a last minute AAC nod put USM over the top, in fact.. First time many of us on this board had a meeting with (then) newly hired UNT AD Rick Villearreal (and himself a USM alum) Rick V told us that USM back in the day once wanted to be like North Texas; that is, with rankings, being able to schedule mega-schools like UT-Austin when Ole Miss and Miss State wouldn't give them the time of day, etc, etc, etc. Well, tomorrow night we will allow them be like the North Texas of recent years and kick their butts over in the Land of Mint Juleps, southern fried goofiness and old worn out confederate war stories (Sorry 'bout having to say that, Grandpa G. Franklin, but it is what it is and was with that terrible internal U;S. war). This game could become "sportsmanship" ugly early on so we need "OUR" team to get off to a quick (scoring) start for a change. Based on some of their fans comments I hope we have the ability to run up the score whereas they even know we could just that but.....we don't. Lets send the Golden Eagles a clear message that this North Texas football program is now so very close to being like the very one that they once admired and wanted to model theirs after. At the University of North Texas we have a great legacy, we have an impressive history but the most exciting part of all this is that we have one helluva' future! Ditto, Ditto... U of Louisiana lost out on this CUSA expansion and I still have no idea why as I compare their recent success, larger than most CUSA school's football stadiums and attendance with the last wave of expansion schools and that even compared to some who left or will leave for the AAC--one of those from way down there in New Orleans. And since the Rajun Cajuns are apparently a shoo-in for the NO's, Bowl, they will also most likely kick whoever their NO's Bowl opponent's butt, too, since they have a well coached team and will have the home crowd as they bring 45K (+/-). Has North Texas not adjusted its original cost for the use of Apogee which as I recall was quite expensive? Think Halloween Night At Apogee Stadium!

How is your preseason prediction holding up?
PlummMeanGreen replied to JesseMartin's topic in Mean Green Football
Early on I said 6 (minimum), 7 or maybe 8. I just liked our offensive line (so did Phil Steele with his well respected college FB magazine) and also what transfers we had coming in and what I felt back in the Spring/Summer would need to be some key young players developing--I think they are doing that, too. We all knew we would have more skill people this Fall, too, and that has not hurt us or Derek Thompson at all. I was also banking on DT/#7 having a career year his 5'th and final year for the Mean Green and he seems to be well on the way of doing that. GMG! PS: What MUTS is doing right now against Marshall is quite interesting. -

Any one say, uh, Secret Love? A song dedication to Cougie guy from my close personal friend , ie, the great (not late yet) Doris Day. (Of course, we are not close personal friends) -
Beyond The Green At 4:00 PM Today:|:Fox Sports SW
PlummMeanGreen replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Another great Beyond The Green! 5 thumbs up! This show will eventually be cause to get us more 3 star and up recruits in the future. MGR'Networker Jub-Jub Dunam has a beard growing and in play now. HINT For JUB: "Just For Men" Jub. It has worked well with me for years. Coach Mac's enthusiasm is so gol darned infectious. Would have loved to have played for him even at the Texas HS level (which is where my talents ceased). GMG! Think Halloween Night At Apogee Stadium! -
The USM Frosh QB threw 2 TD passes against ECU? Hmmm?

That is a great idea, Stix! And beer for all those old enough to drink it? Again if not the original idea of this thread just do a command repeat performance of that first week of the season Pep Rally by our great UNT 2013 Freshmen Class! How did they get that group out in 100 degrees? Just curious. Think Halloween Night At Apogee Stadium! Addendum: Is it just me or do most of our Apogee Stadium TV camera crowd shots mostly always on the Student Side and the Wing Zone with rare crowd shots of our West Side? That is fine by me, but that seems to be what I've noticed with our televised games of late.

not too sure Tulane or anyone wants that New Orleans Bowl
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
You are still ignoring the fact that your posts are always negative. You going to deny that by changing or diverting this conversation to my long posts now? Great, you would do well in Washington at present time (until the silent majority changes that train wreck once and for all). And so damn funny how many PM's or even phone calls (in past years) I've received from those who read those 5,000 word posts who agree with most of their content. Some of that group actually have an attention span to be able to read and comprehend past 25 words. (Amazing what a real college education can do for you). In fact, for about 42 years many I know have agreed with much I have had to say about North Texas....mostly positive but moreso, because they feel I have been right. Of course, I've liked what most of them have to say about UNT, too; but funny (once again) is how I would still have stated my opinions with or w/o any of their approvals. I don't live my life needing a pat on the back or someone's approval--never have. Some of that group of fellow alums sometimes remind me of my endless (not always easy to be chosen for publication) "Letters to the Sports Editors" to the DMN, FWST and the (now defunct) Dallas Times Herald thru the years and that before the internet. In fact, I received a couple of nice notes from late UNT president Al Hurley and a couple of his staff with some of those. Why? Those published letters were upbeat and positive things about North Texas. Am I being self serving by telling you all of that? No, because those who know me (and you do not) know I don't gravitate to the "LOOK WHAT I DONE, MA' " mode of operation. Not my style, but to tell it like it is "is" my style. And when I deserve it, I can take it back if I've dished it out. This post will end any response I will ever post concerning any of your Negative Ned'isms, UNT90. You are history to me and I know for fact for others, too. Hope you will find the High Road at some point but for now, you are one lost highway with a destination that doesn't seem as if it could ever be a happy one. You should take you own vacation from GMG.com because you are not a positive contributor of this forum at any time as you have now started using the "reality card" as your reason for being negative now. Good try with that one. Good luck. -
When I think of Who'lane, I think of one of our defensive players meeting Montana with a hard, bone-crushing, but fair hit. Our team's theme song for the Who'lane QB became: Meet Us At Montana.
