Yes, Ms. Ybarbo,I resemble that, too. Wonder if the (inside the USA Today Top 10) Georgia Bulldogs thought we were left-overs going well into the 3'rd quarter of that game when it was tied? This North Texas Mean Green football team if it puts a similar kind of effort like that one (and the Ball State game among others) together no matter who we play (or whatever bowl game) we will see just how left-over our alma mater's football team looks to some of the national sports media who rarely know there are other schools outside the Top 10 that play on Game Days.

Obviously another thread I didn't read. Just saw the title of this thread and responded in kind. And I obviously I (embarrassingly) have this bowl game confused with the one in Fort Worth. (Yet another senior moment which I've been told by other seniors will only get worse). How many damn bowls are there again? I remember when there were only about 4 to 8 bowls and that around the same time of Custer's Last Stand at the Little Big Horn I reckon'. GMG!

Why and what tone did he single out North Texas, ie, located in the USA's 5'th largest TV market with a large enough UNT constituency in the DFW market to make a difference in the ratings department, too, starting with 37,000 students, over 200,000 DFW UNT alums and even 700,000 in Denton County, ie, our schools home county. Hey, Rick, I don't think TCU is going to a bowl game this winter so...................has that had an effect on the Miltary Bowl folks attitude a bit? Coach Gary "Hulk Hogan" Patterson is probably on their selection committee, too, so you know Baylor would never be on that list any time soon, either; that is, if they were ever part of the mix of schools that could be invited.

Updated 12.3.13 SI Bowl Projections: UNT v CUSE in HOD
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Best I recollect, this Fall (2013) North Texas had 9 or 10 games televised during the regular season with a bowl game in a few weeks which will be televised nationally. Not sure the AAC would give us a better deal than that any football season and what could be more important than that (?).........would it be playing schools that used to have it going on in major P5 conference over a half century ago (who bring "NO" traveling fans to magnificent Apogee Stadium) and possibly having far less televised games or.............. making sure our present and future Mean Green football teams get good TV coverage in this the #5 ranked TV market in the USA? Names can only take you so far among the G5 group of conferences. Some might say a "has been" name school and a buck might get you a bad cup of coffee thats been on the back burner all day long and at a Texas greasy spoon cafe to boot. Freds Cafe off Fort Worth's 7'th street for starters? GMG!- 17 replies

Ryan v Cedar Hill @ Apogee Saturday
PlummMeanGreen replied to emmitt01's topic in Mean Green Football
I think there is the possibility for icy roads Saturday, other-wise, Emmitt, I would be tempted to come up and watch that game. Of course, we saw how bad weather turned into almost darn good November football weather for our last homegame so who knows about some weather forecasts. I saw Denton HS play Odessa Permian at Fouts many years ago and thoroughly enjoyed being back in the Texas HS football environment. -
P.O.S. will keep this from happening to its fullest extent, ragpicker. P.O.S.? Pecking Order Syndrome of which our state has the worst epidemic of them all. X school doesn't want to play Y school because a win by said X school (UNT?) could just about put X school out of the Texas intercollegiate business for just about forever--at least they think it might. LOL! (Of course I exaggerate with the latter part of that sentence). Look for TCU to drop the SMU football series soon enough just reading a few 'Stang's posts on other forums, TCU is handling this Big 12 membership thing just about the way many of us thought they would---and that the reason why I love it when TCU stays home during the bowl season and North Texas does not! If you want to hear a media TCU homer just listen to Hal Jay of WBAP. I do in the mornings and have to keep a barf bag nearby when he starts in on his Frog'n bits. TCU? They took us off their football schedule in the 50's when we integrated with Abner Haynes as well as Leon King and then........they for damn sure didn't want to play us during the Mean Joe Greene and Hayden Fry eras, either. You have 3 chances to guess why TCU didn't want to play the Mean Green of North Texas for a period of well over 3 decades and as they say...the first 2 don't count. GMG!

Thanks for the info and studying is always a good idea!

So is our team practicing now or do they have to wait for an official bowl invite first? If not organized practices, can they be "encouraged" to get together as a team on their own for "unofficial" practices led by our senior football players? GMG!

Do we need Rice to win C-USA championship?
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Well, the HOD Bowl committee "ONLY" made our last 3 home games at Apogee so I think their interest with what we bring to their table is more than just of a casual nature (as I think it would be for Rice since they saw how many fans the Owls brought to Apogee at what would be a pretty big CUSA west division game and that no matter what night it was played). AND........after your sentence that I highlighted in bold red I all but stopped reading because...... ...for a Tuesday night New Orleans Bowl game last decade we traveled almost 17,000 Mean Green fans (according to the MGRN guys) and last I checked, the Big Easy is a few more miles down the road than Dallas for most of us. Back in the dark ages and according to the Austin American-Statesman and Dallas Green (yes, the memory is still good), but North Texas had about 20,000 traveling fans when we played the Texas Longhorns only to watch Earl Campbell make a last minutes of the game TD run to beat the Mean Green 17 to 14. (I was never sure why we could never win those kind of games the last 40 or so years, quite frankly). An HOD Bowl game would arguably be the biggest event in our 100 years of football history. It over-shadows any bowl game the SBC could ever offer because it's in Big D and in our back yard (or should I say front yard)? GMG! -
Yep, lots of social climbin' goin' on among the G5 conferences alright. Funny how we all want to be in bed with programs that have been "has beens" longer than some can count and programs living on name ID or reputations made well over a half century ago but still...........................where do we sign the dotted line, AAC.............right? THIS: Wonder what the Mountain West Conference former rep who will now be U of North Texas new president will say about conferences and conference re-alignment in general? Might he have a perspective on all this that we have not yet heard from some of our own? Those out there like our new UNT president may know more about the future of the NCAA FBS than any of us could imagine. GMG!

They have E. Carolina in the HOD? REALLY?
PlummMeanGreen replied to pogWo4life's topic in Mean Green Football
Consider the source? Now they do get it right about college marching bands and drumlines, though. -
But how soon do larger public universities snatch both Art Briles and even Gary "I Shall Not Be Moved" Patterson? Both have very nice contracts now, but ask most any NCAA FBS/P5 head football coaches if they prefer to coach before 80,000 or 40,000 (and we all saw pics of TCU's almost empty student section at 1 or 2 of their games this season, right)?

Stylish green canopies extended around the perimeter of this facility as to give it more depth ? (Is there going to be an HOD Bowl announcement today or not)?

Heart of Dallas Bowl 2014 - UNT needs to think BIG

Didn't Coach Mac say there were unlimited practices on one of his shows? Maybe I'm worse off than I thought if I didn't hear that. GMG!

Heart of Dallas Bowl 2014 - UNT needs to think BIG
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
CRW: I don't really think animosity is the right word here. There's no hatin' going on, either. Just a little bit of opinionatin'...that's all. UNT-Denton needs to raise another $300 MM or more to get its Texas Tier 1 Research University status, and many of us just didn't see UNT as a school with all the resources it would really need to spread our wings (so to speak) and be a system. I think it probably should have stuck (maybe) with a UNT Law School and UNTHSC at Fort Worth and that be it. I would say this even if UNT would have put another free-standing university in Gainsville, Allen, Frisco,Sherman or wherever for that matter. We all hope success for UNT-Dallas but not at UNT-Denton's expense and that mostly due to limited resources for both. -
Welcome to Harry's board....cogido. Fasten your seatbelts, though. GMG!

Heart of Dallas Bowl 2014 - UNT needs to think BIG
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Wasn't really comparing any UNT System campus to any UT System campus at all. That's apples and oranges and the Permanent University Fund gift to UT(and TAMU) made possible by an 1870's Texas legislature made it that way a long time ago. Guess we are all waiting for an HOD Bowl announcement and just killing time, eh? GMG! -
Brandin Byrd & Mike Marshall CUSA POTW
PlummMeanGreen replied to UNTFan23's topic in Mean Green Football
CUSA needs a Top 25 ranked USM football program again and North Texas needs to copy that to the tee. GMG! PS: Congrats Brandin and Mike! -
Heart of Dallas Bowl 2014 - UNT needs to think BIG
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
CRW: This probably started with some of us when a UNT-Denton grad gave UNT-Dallas $1 million cash gift? Guess which school didn't get that $1 million as a result of that? There are other reasons and not enough time to go into all that. As you'd know UNT-Denton and UNT-Dallas are 2 separate standing universities; just like UT-Austin, UTEP and UTSA are 3 separate standing universities. GMG!. .
