  1. I like SOW on a black helmet like at the Rice game? Black is beautiful! Heck! Johnny Cash was even "the Man in Black." The words "North Texas" can be made to be just as visible on the upper part of jersey than having it on a helmet with a chin strap covering one of the letters.
  2. He along with UNT alum and ESPN analyst Dave Barnett, too?
  3. Then just maybe an Indian Summer Day in Dallas on January 1, 2014? One can wish.
  4. I want us to keep any HFC here at least 6-7 years, but I want that coach to have at least 3-4 bowl teams in that period of time and a Mean Green team or 2 or 3 that get Top 25 rankings. If we ain't getting Top 25 ranked teams from time to time then we are fiddle-fartin' and only fooling ourselves about our football program at the NCAA FBS level. THIS >> > > > Boise State went thru about 4 HFC's in a 10-11 year span, but 99% of that time (as I recall) still had its Bronces in Top 25 polls. That to me is simply amazing for a school of which we were once in a conference. GMG!
  5. If we don't get an Indian Summer day on 1/1/14 but rather what we're going to get much of the next 2 days here in DFW, we all would have wished for our team an invite to that bowl in Honolulu. Sorta' funny how weather in Dallas for 1/1/14 has hardly been discussed on this forum--not that we can do anything about the weather, of course.. Any Farmer's Almanac forecast for that day at the HoD Bowl? GMG!
  6. See the link below and see how North Texas could schedule the Big Boys when none of the Big Boys knew there was a Southwest Texas St. (which was their name for most of our 100 years of playing NCAA football). We've played many of the Big Boys before, so why we cowering down to schedule (at least) the mid range Big Boys now? Heck.... we once beat Baylor, Oregon State and darn near Bobby Bowden's Fla. State Seminoles at Fouts Field--so why we saying now we can't schedule schools similar or a half step down from those? How damn strange all this really is. It's just more of this going 3 steps forward--then going 5 steps backwards thing we seem to have specialized in most my life as a UNT alum. Nothing wrong with playing Texas State, but part of the selling points to build Apogee would be that our OOC schedule would be upgraded across the board and that has not been fulfilled as of yet. Plus we just left the Sun Belt so why gravitate backwards to playing schools from a conference we'd been trying to get out of since we joined it? Indiana U and others similar were the kind of upgrades we were hoping for. SMU is a good series but we can't hang our hats on that for the next 25 years, either; somewhat like we seem to be celebrating Apogee's opening 3 years after its debut but forgetting that we really need to fill it with 31,000 fans ever once in awhile. (And yes, I know all the 1,000 reasons as to why "Excuses U" cannot possibly do that so spare me). http://www.mcubed.net/ncaaf/series/nt/index.shtml
  7. Wonder if he'd agree to a significant buy-out clause if he got a total of 6 years with his contract (instead of 5) ? Coach DMac ain't going to go lateral with a job and has already been a Big 12 HFC for almost a decade. Each of the Big 12 schools get around $20 million per annual TV revenue plus ga-jillions from their booster club monies. Buyout would not be a problem with most P5 schools. Just something to discuss...not sure if UNT would do this.
  8. foutsrouts, actually, we played 4 games there in 1981 during the big 1 year UNT HFC'ing career of Bob Tyler---I haven't been back since. GMG! PS: Darn it I wish they would have gone ahead and put a sliding roof on Cotton Bowl Stadium as they discussed.
  9. Let me go on record by saying lets get a bowl game/any bowl game first then all can go out and get drunk assuming you will have a designated driver and that you will not be texting while under the influence--no matter who's driving. O God Do Bless the Mean Green Nation....we are a most unique & peculiar group. but those 40 years in the wilderness didn't help in making us normal or even keel, either--nothing personal intended with that, of course. Amen. GMG!
  10. freakin, friggin' fracker fable! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRfuTTd09vo
  11. Amen, bro! You don't tell people they are going to get something unless they are going to get it.
  12. Or Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl......one last time in the Astrodome. (I saw Fry's SMU beat Fairbank's OU team in that bowl game and one other Bluebonnet Bowl game when DKR's Horns beat Johnny Vaught's Ole Miss Rebels---not sure why they didn't stay with that name down in H-Town quite frankly. Still so sad to see that the world's first indoor stadium will be imploded.
  13. Let them keep chattering, but let it all stop with their chatter. Big 10, please? (If we're in the HOD, that is).
  14. I was looking for a UFO....did I miss it? Or something else here? How soon can all this be capped so they can move on?
  15. I'm 25 minutes from Amon Carter Stadium living out here in eastern Parker County. That should answer the question on my part. Still, a Big 10 opponent over in Dallas would be better overall.
  16. No Sun Belt schools.............nothing against them but its not the direction we need to go unless we're flirting with going down an NCAA division once again. You don't get Top 25 votes or ranked teams by the continual playing of Sun Belt teams. Go back to the MAC for that--they have a Top 25 school EVERY Fall. How long did we want out of the Sun Belt? Then why go back with even OOC games? We keep playing SBC schools and some of the national media (the ones who make or influence Top 25 votes) will think we never left that conference. ? Why build an Apogee in the first place if we keep acting and scheduling like we're a 1-AA school? FWIW, we all but had better OOC scheduling when we were at Fouts. Why the hell we back-tracking?..............................Is 3 year football program UTSA back-tracking? No, they are moving forward. Will UNT provide for its fans and alums surgical masks to prevent us from swallowing the Road Runner's dust? (I will not tell you how many schools have passed North Texas since our Missouri Valley Conference era--it would almost break your spirit). ! AND........you keep patting mediocrity on the back and you'll keep getting mediocrity. Also, when you have those on staff who do much better jobs selling themselves than they do football season tickets, then that is the time for there to be a real Come to Jesus talk to see where this thing is really going at this juncture of our school's existence (along with its warp speed growth which should have all this time translated into many more football ticket sales................ but hasn't). . GMG!
  17. B. C. would not bring 2,500 fans. They would bring just a few more than CUSA champion Cincy' brought to the NO's Bowl when we traveled 17,000 (according to that years UNT bowl highlight DVD) for a Tuesday night game 8-10 driving hours from DFW which I still think was a pretty damn impressive thing for our Mean Green fans who could get away for that game. (color change in honor of the season............Merry Christmas)! We (CUSA) need a Big 10 school here even over a PAC 12 school. First of all, "OUR" team needs a HOD Bowl invite, of course. I think this has all been decided but not yet announced.
  18. Another campus study said that those of us under 6 feet tall tend to use CAPITAL LETTERS MORE THAN THOSE OVER 6 FEET TALL! Carry on...
  19. They built it inside someone's living room? DAMN! Friggin' frackin'! Seriously, when does the gas well come down near Apogee so we can do a bit more landscaping...No doubt it is an eye-sore in a place where there doesn't need to be an eye-sore. GMG!
  20. LOL! Love it! Beat the Iowa Hawkeyes as a warm-up for our future regular season game(s)? against the black and gold.
  21. There are 2 teams (Rice & Middle Tennessee) in the Yahoo bowl line-up that we beat this Fall, so who is the Einstein who came up with any scenario that leaves out an 8 win (and most entertaining) Mean Green football team who (again) just happen to have 2 wins over 2 of Yahoos projected bowl teams? (You also have to wonder if Yahoo even knows that UNT beat Rice and MIddle, too). I understand that CUSA Commish' Brit Banowsky needs to take care of the Rice Owls since they are a CUSA veteran. So easy to understand that part. Moving ahead....isn't this mostly all about the CUSA office being respectul to the Rice Owls as to see if they beat Marshall or not? How would you feel if you were a Rice alum and CUSA officials approved right off the bat giving an invite to UNT without seeing what the Owls do against "the Herd" ...................even though you know because UNT beat the Owls they (R.U) will probably get to fly way out west and listen to Hawaii Calls radio music (and other interesting island activities) for about 72 hours in preparation for a bowl game? IF.....we got kicked in the family jewels and got left out of any bowl with an 8 win team then that is when we start making initial inquiries to the new UNT president,,ie, the out-going rep for the entire MWC this.............. ......................"looking ahead, what would be the chance down the road if we could got a travel partner (or 2) here in Texas and would then go to the Mountain West Conference (with new east/west divisions) since its no secret the MWC still wants a Texas presence?" AND THEN THIS: UH and SMU will one day see the folly of going with the AAC playing schools that have no traveling fans and who Texans (specifically Coog & Pony fans) could care less about and then those 2 schools coveting those 2 (or 3) MWC spots as they would be thinking they'll both be the next TCU to move up to a Power 5? Any of this make any sense at all? Oh, probably not. GMG!
  22. There are many wishes from me but this one for sure: For Coach McCarney to peruse the assistant football coaching staffs of UL and ULM and hire the best assistant coach but moreso, the "one" most celebrated recruiter extraordinaire between both school's staffs after Coach Mac's research to determine who that one assistant coach (and top recruiter) would be. Reason For This? Wouldn't some agree that we need to upgrade our state of Louisiana/Deep South recruiting? Might it be that 2 or 3 recruits from that region could make a huge difference in any annual recruiting class at North Texas? (I mean it's not that that the Louisiana schools are hardly ignoring the state of Texas recruiting fields to sign some of our best). *This all contingent if UNT even has an opening for such a hire; that is, if we lose an assistant or 2 who get hired away from us after our bowl game thus leaving an opening on our staff for such a hire. Just One More, Santa... This kind of pre-game Apogee Stadium entrance for "OUR" Mean Green football team In the near future &: Put Denton, Texas, America On The Richter Scale! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2cvTkw9rZ0
  23. As we all know, whatever bowl game we get is a reward for our Mean Green football team, Coach McCarney, his assistant coaches, to the UNT Athletic Department and then us, ie, the fans and alums. . It would be nice if Mean Green fans could be part of our team's bowl-bound celebration but some of us have been trying to tell others of you that when things which have concerned North Texas in the past sometimes creates a scenario of....all that glitters is not gold BUT.............Hawaii would be gold for our special group who got to 8 wins as to make them AND our alma mater bowl-worthy. Could we not be prouder of them all because of what they did? GMG! PS: Hawaii ain't bad--it aint' bad at all....used to live there before I met most of my peers and age group of UNT who (like me) seem to live on Harry's long running message board, ie, GMG.com And thanks to you, Harry, you brought many of us together and allowed many of us to put faces to names.
  24. If we had at least a 40,000 seat stadium and with how UT-Austin has most always been schedule-friendly with UNT and even made us the first ever G5'esque type of school to put on their football schedule as far back as 1976 would it be outside the realm of possibilities that we could play them at Apogee Stadium? I know, that's quite a reach for some who have been conditioned for way too long to think at different levels but............... have you seen UTSA's future home schedule lately? UH is building their stadium to seat at least 40K and many on this board think we should try to act like them; even copy their Tier 1 Research Status success which they got before you could say..............Bill Yeoman & the Houston Veer. This? If we don't stay on the race track with the hoss'es we want to race against then how we ever going to win a race against those kind of hosses? GMG! PS: Don't forget now that SMU has hosted TTech and TAMU at their Ford before you say none of this can be done.
