Of course, just-a kiddin' Bill, but the urban tale on this continues as such things go. -
So then Tuesday?

Maybe just to wait until after the national ESPN Bowl show announces it? -

My blood pressure goes up every time I hear his Rockne'esque pep talks on the UNT Beyond The Green TV program but on the other hand at age 63 he also makes me want to suit up and go kick some ass just for him, too. (Yeah, I know, too old, old white man here that can't jump and need a calendar now to time my 40). He's now winning and our program was pathetic (and so under scholar-shipped) when he got here, too. I liked RV's hire (yes ME) and did from the git-go when 1 or 2 of you know on Coach Mac's Day 1 at UNT that I said "Year 3" for Coach Fry's understudy and now low and behold. (Others of you said Year 3, too, as I recall). GMG! -

Bill: You, FFR and I are going to have to have yet another UNT alumnus meeting out here at the Hudson Oaks McDonalds & Coffee Club. Maybe we should invite McDonalds neighbor UNT alum Jerry Durant of Jerry's Chevy fame, too? Dallas Green! Can you arrange that since yall were frat brothers! LOL! I think the UNLV thing was totally out of our hands but I do agree with what you are saying. We just don't have much capital or pull yet with 1 winning season over the last almost decade, but with 4 to 5 winning seasons in a row with some Top 25 ranked teams in that time I think we would have more of a voice (and vote). You are a great alum, pal, and a pretty good tag team wrestler in the stands, too! GMG! -
So now a possible 2 Texas HS play-off games at (per the article).....Apogee Stadium, UNT’s beautiful new stadium........ both on the same day or both one day apart now? To quote the late Jackie Gleason: How Sweet It Is!

2013/2014 Payouts For Each Bowl (with nice graphics)
PlummMeanGreen replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Also, I think I read where 5 SBC bowl elgible teams will not be getting a bowl game--period, drex. Some of you called some of us crazy years ago for wanting out of the SBC. Well, we're probably still crazy but we were right about getting out of that consortium of schools. I feel sorry for some who were left behind and still hope we will one day add the Rajun Cajuns to take Tulane's place. I know our conference mate La Tech will not concur but reading many of your posts the last few years tells me ULL are more than worthy. Still wish Banowsky had not jumped the gun on adding some schools because in my heart of hearts I think there might be 1 or 2 CUSA defectors who might want back in at some point. -
2013/2014 Payouts For Each Bowl (with nice graphics)

I got this link from the Mountain West Conference forum.....probably should have researched this more thoroughly. Sorry 'bout that, shaft. I did think some of the guarantees seemed a bit out of kelter but still went with it. GMG! -
If we'd had a P5 opponent I think we would be happy with our DFW coverage. With a G5 opponent I just don't know and have my doubts. (We've had 1 winning season in the last "almost" a decade and all should try to keep the right perspective as far as our ability to draw P5 schools in a bowl game at this juncture of our football history of late....if we have 3 or 4 winning seasons in a row with Top 25 rankings during some of those seasons I think that will change). Wonder if North Texas will run a (quite expensive) full page Dallas Morning News ad for this game (and other things about our school)? Might as well kill 2 birds with 1 stone, right, drex)? Those 2 electronic signs off I35-W right before Pilot Knob Ranch should increase with HOD Bowl commercial stills. Pull out all the stops, North Texas! This bowl game on New Years Day would have a return on such an investment. It could very well wake up some of our frozen chosen who have all the big bucks, too.

Hey! JesseMartin, I chose not to post that scene! Harry wants this to remain a family board. AND......Ya' think new UNT Prez' Smatresk will be observing what kind of tickets sales we will have for this "local" bowl game, too? I'll do my part but that means only "1-2" purchased tickets. GMG!
-
I'm sure its already been discussed, but the logistics of communicating to our UNT students between this next Friday and New Years Day concerning ticket sales (possible discounts?) for the HOD Bowl could be a bit awkward?
-
All should get with their friends or those they tailgate with and buy in blocs so we all get to sit by our fellow Mean Green friends.

It's Official: UNT will play in Heart of Dallas Bowl!
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Emmitt01 has some nice things to say about HOD, too. Difference between HOD and the NO's Bowl of last decade is that there will apparently be more un-affiliated locals in attendance at this game than Wright Waters could ever get to show up at the NO's Bowl game. Emmitt also said they do pass out plenty of tickets for City of Dallas employees, too. If we happened upon 25K for our part, it would be a decent crowd. Maybe UNLV will travel more than even they think they will travel. Neither school was going to play a Big 10 or P5 school at a bowl so fans of both the UNT and UNLV constituecies should get over it (if they haven't already). Yes, there is a case for the bowl on the other side of the turnpike with Navy as opponent but we have Big D. Someone in Denton needs to start selling tickets 24/7 starting tomorrow. NOTE: We should all get with those we want to sit with and buy in blocs to make that happen no matter how large or small the blocs. GMG! PS: Jeez, I saw the TV ratings for Okla. State vs. Purdue at last years HOD Bowl game and it was .05 which I think means 500,000 viewers? Among others we need to view this bowl game no matter how many view it in total are some key Texas HS or JUCO recruits that Coach McCarney & Staff are recruiting. This bowl game could really put the icing on the cake for Coach DMac's already quite fine 2014 class. -

This: We have 1 winning season in about a decade and don't have the pull we might have had had most of last decade been winning years. How could we have really expected a P5 school with that in mind? Give DMac a few more years--then we'll get a bowl game with a P5 opponent. You know, UNLV would have preferred to play a Big 10 school, too. Small steps...(but SRO at Apogee while we're making our small steps). -
CW, I guess you now thinking my being a David Lynch movie buff sorta' gives it away? DJ? Maybe one 40 years younger. Most my gigs are weddings but thanks for thinking about me. PS: Of course, I was being a bit tongue in cheek about the Nic Cage sings Elvis idea.

This message board is like a reality comedy TV show but WTH we are who we are and are about as dysfunctional as the rest of NCAA FBS schools BUT let me be the first to recommend this for entertainment (drum roll)........................................ .....for the big Mean Green New Years Eve entertainment at the largest UNT bowl party I vote for UNT to book actor Nicolas Cage coming to Big D to perform a Las Vegas music review of Elvis hits such as this one from David Lynch's movie "Wild Heart." I think he'd be a smash hit with our crowd (if he's sober) which no one else will be. He'd get the UNT co-eds out en mass, too! R rated but don't worry, Laura Dern don't get nekid in this scene at all. Bring on those UNLV Rebels! We be Mean Green!

So who will break the bowl news first?
PlummMeanGreen replied to TheColonyEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Much like their promotions and marketing staff has been all year long--hell...all decade long? Once they wake up over there and figure out we're in a pro-oriented sports market maybe that will change, but for some of the present group it might be too late with a new incoming UNT administration. You cannot lolly-gag for 10 plus years and say you really don't know your job description (which has happened over there); you don't know this market and then you don't know who to sell or promote to in this market, DAMN! Talk about your basic long running job security; that is, at UNT's beaurocratic Nirvana-Land on Bonnie Brae. 19K for Senior Day for "THIS" team needs to still be addressed by somebody. Forget our long-suffering "OLD" alums, I just feel damn bad for Coach DMac and the Mean Green. Attendance deficiencies will once again and one day soon bite UNT in the arse and some of you over here don't seem to want to look down the road as to how it could. Well, don't get your panties in a wad when UTSA goes up in the NCAA while we keep celebrating our 100 Years of Mean Green football 10 years from now. Schools who win but who also draw impressively at their stadiums move up...the opposite can be said for those who don't. 25K ticket sales for HOD? Folks, we didn't sell that many tickets for an event that was just as significant as the HOD Bowl, ie, the grand opening of Apogee Stadium. (UH brought 4K to 5K to Apogee that night so do the math for how many tickets our fans would have purchased minus the UH fans). Who knows, just maybe a New Years Day game in Dallas will wake up the dead, but to sell 25K or more from those working out off Bonnie Brae are going to have to work their collective arses off moreso than I think they know and that based on their efforts to sell ticket sales for the debut of Apogee Stadium when they had...... an entire Spring & Summer to do so. I live for the day to be 100% wrong about much of what I've observed for 40 plus years with all this...........I really & sincerely do. Our school would be much the better and be so much further down the road If I (and others of you) were proven wrong on much of this. I hope we get close to the numbers that the HOD Bowl folks want from UNT but--we will need many, many more to buy than all of those who read this message board X's 10 (or whatever), though. GMG! -

DRC: Saturday afternoon bowl update
PlummMeanGreen replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Can you imagine that department now if not for one man's success this Fall? That man being being Dan McCarney. Like I posted before, I hope Coach DMac's bangwagon will be large enough to hold all those who need to ride his coattail as to stick around another 10 years. Everyone already forgot our last 9 prior to this one? That's what I thought. -
DRC: Saturday afternoon bowl update
PlummMeanGreen replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Why do that when some on this board who as UNT students or alums have never seen a HFC leave Denton above .500 are suddenly experts about what all that should be done in Denton? Even more interesting is how some of that group keep preserving mediocrity at North Texas with staffers who no on else in the NCAA are interested in hiring; least of all interviewing. Coach DMac will need a bigger bandwagon for some UNT staffers to jump on to preserve their own futures in Denton---and that whether we have a filled Apogee or not; whether we have effective marketing programs or not, etc, etc, etc,. Effective? When you see sellouts of a 31,000 seat stadium of which 6 million DFW citizens live within an hour of that stadium. Such a tough sell for some. -

Moot point. I'll draw you a picture of a brick wall and you can continue your discussion with that. If your not part of the answer then your part of the problem. Empty seats should even tell you that unless you have a fetish for empty seats. My last response to you on this subject...now go enlighten someone else. -
DRC: Saturday afternoon bowl update

Since he's in charge as UNT prez' and all department's bosses report to him, he can influence the setting of attendance goals and may even suggest quotas for those whose job it is to promote and market. Something few of us have seen in Denton of late. Remember when some of you ask just about every August: How many season tickets have we sold? Also recall how no one ever gets an answer for such a simple question? If your happy with our attendance why waste your time in the discussion? It's a cinch that Coach DMac and his team cannot be happy with the turnstiles count.
