  1. Hey, hey, hey, Judge Joe! 😬 “What you talkin’ bout’ boy?” (the late, great Gary Coleman). Anyhoo….greenjoe—After I go broke paying for gas & groceries, that’s when I know it will be time to go out & buy a $60,000 electric car. Makes sense, right? Just all part of the plan? 🎶”Memories”🎶 (Elvis)…..Seriously, I just long for the days when I could go to Denton’s “Tom & Jo’s” where I could sit down, shoot the bull with oldtimers & then eat a good hamburger or a club sandwich (fries on the side). Nirvana! 🤠 •••So happy Coach McCasland chose to stick around awhile. He has a lifetime job in Denton if he wants & now I’m glad the Super Pit seats 10,000 albeit definite improvements are necessary, we’d all agree. (Those will all come). 💚GMG!💚
  2. And what does your favorite cousin, Guido (who I respect so very much, of course) have to say about it, O Ye the original Godfather?🙄🤠
  3. Guess those 2 fellers preaching a real need to expand Apogee a few years ago knew what they were talking about, eh?😆

    Some people call it vision.

    1. ADLER

      ADLER

Yeah. Stadium size, more than actual attendance, seems to be a determining factor for potential between the 'haves', and the 'have nots'.

Now, Littrell should be terminated immediately if he loses either one of our first two games and a national search announced. We'd of course still have to eat his 2023 pay, but it would finally show a commitment to improve and give us the opportunity to find an excellent coach and give him a chance to assemble his staff and start recruiting evaluations. Look how well it worked for WKU and watch how USC improves this year.

  4. Could SMU come up with half a billion😳 to entice any P5 conference to accept them? (Is it that important to them)? When ex Dallas Mayor & SMU alum Garry Weber gave his alma mater’s athletics program mega-millions toward an expansion of G. Ford Stadium I think it was not done with the idea of staying at a G5 level. (Uh, duh)? This re-alignment opportunity for SMU may be their last roundup for quite awhile & Mustang athletics seems to be pulling out all the stops to make it happen. (You have to admire their proactivity over on the Hilltop, you really do). SMU is doing all the right things starting with the huge donation from Weber & like the below architectural painting. (I think a similar painting by UNT will be soon if I understood W. Baker correctly in his podcast with Harry the other day. (BTW, a great job, Harry & WrenB). Just like in Track & Field for runners at practice, it’s always a good thing to have a rabbit for said runner to stretch his/her potential. I think SMU is more than an effective rabbit for our favorite school whatever conference the Stangs’ stay or land in. Nevertheless, UNT will not fold tent based on SMU’s athletic future & in your hearts you know that is right—right? ❇️🦅❇️ GMG!
  5. Honestly never thought we’d play more than one season with SMU as a conference-mate—who knows, maybe not even one season. Theres so much in the NCAA happening now & will in the future. UNT still needs to take care of business. (The End zone/Athletic Center venue is still a good idea). One day our constituency numbers will mean something; albeit some on GMG say it won’t. (SMU may prove them to be right). ••• Funny how life can take you on so many unexpected destinations. If I hadn’t had a girl friend going to TWU I would probably be a UH alum today.
  6. For those who rate stadiums one has to wonder if they were ever inside them? Find out the school(s) affiliation of those who rate stadiums might be a dead giveaway in some cases. ••• A friend said he once sat in Apogee’s Wing Zone & said he couldn’t believe how great the sight lines were. ••• A former Big 8 commissioner after he toured Apogee upon completion thought UNT got a real steal at $78 million. Would it take $250-$300 million to build Apogee Stadium in 2022? GMG!
  7. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 On the eve of my 51’st year following all this, but have these SMU-UNT “discussions” come to this as seen in the video below? 🫣 (I did slip over to PonyFans.com & saw ‘Stangers are already talking about bringing a larger than usual group to Apogee Stadium for the UNT season home opener). GMG!
  8. No doubt about it as far as Rick Villarreal & the UNTHOF is concerned. Give him a Purple Heart, too, for all the novices he had to put up with of which I include myself. ••• We did need Apogee to seat more for the future, though, as UH built a 40K seat stadium & now SMU who will soon be expanding GJ Ford, but RV sacrificed some seating capacity back then to get a few more amenities for Apogee Stadium. ••• Remember when RV took a retired Big 8 commissioner on a tour of the MG Village & how he was blown away that Apogee only cost UNT $78 million? ••• More seating for Apogee will come if the NCAA Rules Committee will get their heads out of the darkest crevices of their torsos & allow the G5 venues arms race to legitimately continue. “Now let us pray.” 😳 (Coach what’s’his’name from Paramount’s Necessary Roughness).
  9. Jack, do you remember KDNT 1440AM based in Denton? I think a Spanish group bought it out. Back in the day KDNT had several future “Texas State Network” guys who had jobs there. I think Bill Mercer also had something to do with (not only KNTU), but getting 1440AM started also. I agree with you inasmuch as we do need an adiitional radio station affiliation in good ol’ Denton Town speaking of which—I love Grammy winning & UNT’s resident nuclear polka band Brave Combo’ song composition in this video. STAY COOL, ALL!
  10. UNT: One of America's Best College Buys for 25 consecutive years, and named to Moneymagazine’s 2020 Best College’s list. ••• So many lists out there to favor most anyone’s favorite school.
  11. Hi Jack… Hope you are well. Actually, I stole that map off Twitter from a non—UNT fan. ••• All this going on in the NCAA is giving many vertigo. And now UCLA & USC? Methinks the Big 12 & AAC will not be near the same in 2 years. Lots of jockeying going on this very minute I’d say. ❇️🦅❇️…..GMG!
  12. Full disclosure: Honestly? All this NIL business & how it was (IMHO) carelessly launched with so few ground rules just had me as low as a snake crawling thru a wagon wheel rut. It then had me thinking…”you know, after 10 years of being a young UH fan & a 50 year North Texas fan this is where it all ends for this 60 year fan of intercollegiate amateur athletics? Then——I hear UNT Defensive Coordinator Phil Bennett on this Waco-based radio show today. Coach B covered the KD portal thing with his usual enthusiastic style & with some humor mixed in, too. Then this brief KD portal thing which made me nauseous but never blaming our All American one iota for it because (in my opinion) he was not to blame And now with all of us who bleed green with arms open wide saying: “Welcome home, stud! It’s Mean Green butt-kickin’ time, KD & team!” I love how this story is playing out albeit the NCAA Rules Committee has some serious NIL rules tweaking to do & that’s for sure. Hearing from Phil Bennett on the Waco radio show & how the whole KD thing transpired & how Coach Seth Littrell is out there trying to protect UNT’s student athletes just has me feeling a new hope for all concerned & that’s just about all of us who honestly give a damn.
  13. Good potential damage control if needed & if Mac were offered but said: “I’ve got a better overall situation for me & my entire family where we are. Heck! We could be the next Gonzaga.” Is Dave Bliss available? He’s got “the attitude” & would fit right in. (Your AD should tell him Big 12 members are just begging their Commish’ for another Texas-based member in DFW to recruit against). 🙄 (Lot of wasted mental energy over all this if you think about it). 🦅
  14. Funny how I don’t remember Hope being so distraught as the author of the article seems to indicate while she was at North Texas. Honestly, every DFW TV News outlet had a story & an interview on her no hitter along with all the strike outs & even the NBA Dallas Mavericks gave her a special night (see below video). Hope Trautwein was also getting national coverage & interviews (while playing for the UNT Mean Green by the way) on the Major League Baseball channel, too. What these small population states with small TV market college outposts should not forget is how there is almost an 8,000,000 population within an hour (+/-) of Denton in the 5 county North Texas Metroplex that when any Mean Green varsity team is “winning” (which is the key component) there are very many people who know about it as well as the stars of those apple green-clad teams. ••• Now if we can just get more of our alums & fans to quit thinking they went to ISU (Inferior State U) & quit predicting doom, gloom & new jobs for any of our Coach’s (who do well in Denton) we will finally start getting ahead of the freakin’ curve up there at the top of the golden triangle. MLB Network interviews UNT’s Hope Trautwein 🦅
  15. Several unaffiliated to UNT visit Harry’s board often, DeepG. Actually,I wish UAB would have joined the Sun Belt & La Tech would be AAC-bound instead. The Bulldogs are a classier group who don’t take a 2 year break from athletics when the going gets tough. 🦅
  16. Duplicate this crowd of almost 9,000 in the fabulous Super Pit. Extended, loud crowd noise could mean something at this game. It did vs La Tech.
  17. So the few & the bold of G5 who aspire more will never again be allowed in the P5 country club? Sounds so elitist & reeking of snobbery to me—unlike Washington where politicians arrive dirt poor & come out multi-millionaires with little or no effort at all with never an explanation as to how they pulled it off behind their constituent’s backs—just like the Founding Fathers had it all planned.(sarc). Bureaucrats will have us all in soup lines before they finish & there are as many of them employed by universities as there are in all the City Halls of America. 🎻Get fiddles—play fiddles.
  18. Ditto. Potential UNT recruits read GMG, too.
  19. They are a high profile program having won an NCAA national championship as recent as 2019. Hoping we have a high profile crowd in the Super Pit Sunday at 5pm. For this game crowd size (& its noise) could even be the difference in the game. ••• UNT students return from Spring Break on Sunday—hope there is a plan or promotion to get them to the game. GMG!
  20. Obviously a Jelly Walker typo with “can’t?” And isn’t it about time for UAB to take another 2 year sabbatical to stockpile NCAA -approved talent & get ready for the AAC? Half my living relatives might live in Alabama, but I am not a fan of their state & for certain no fan of UAB. They really do think their caca stinketh not. ⚔️
  21. Always has been. Glenn Frey was the better half of those two. Henley thinks he’s some kind of an east Texas philosopher. Still love his “Building the Perfect Beast” album from the mid-1980’s, though.
  22. UNT alum Norah Jones singing Lone “Green” Star with her fellow UNT alum Don Henley as he’s sings harmony & plays Norah’s old man’s (Ravi Shankar) sitar? 🎟 (Just ordered my ticket in Section 121 which is almost sold out—methinks we will have another good turnout again).
  23. And Cincy’ visited Denton with future NBA Hall of Fame member Oscar Robinson to boot.
  24. Is he still on the UNT faculty? When he came to Texas he really embraced our state’s history & culture. He also wrote a very comprehensive book about the Lone Star State. It was widely acclaimed & I bought a copy at Fort Worth’s Barnes & Noble book store.
  25. My favorite History professor at UNT had a couple degrees from UVirginia. That would be Dr. Mike Campbell. He made U.S. history come alive.
