JOE BIDDLE: Sunday Notes: Dec. 28,2013
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Sorry, fellas & ladies, I could not let Mr. Twiddle (or was that name) Biddle (?) get by with that one here in the year 2013 (and soon) 2014. After all, its been since the mid 80's of last, oh, heck, just read it yourself. GMG!- 8 replies

UNLV two deep - Team Preview and thoughts...
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
We've already been cursed as the favorite which is a huge incentive for our foe. How many times have we seen that work against us as in particular...........UTSA? For that game we were flat as a pancake and as I've seen this team in 3 years of Apogee-based football. Of course, UTSA came into "OUR" place as under-dog and with incentive of doing what they said they would do to us for about a year for those of us who read their what their posters said. It was a hard loss to take for all of us. MWC football may be a step above CUSA's right now. Would Rice or even Marshall have challenged their champion, ie, the Fresno State Bulldogs or even a Boise State? How would we have fared against either of those teams? Of course, we'll never know but we're just speculating here as it is. In a 93,000 seat Cotton Bowl stadium will we really have a home field advantage? Do the Cowboys have that in their 100,000 seat stadium? Some DFW sports media types say "no" on that one. Coach Mac, tell them the ACME Las Vegas Odds-Makers, Inc. have the Rebels stomping our butts. 2 teams close in talent many times it can be just one incentive that can make a difference and I believe our 2 teams playing in the Cotton Bowl stadium this Wednesday are fairly close in talent. GMG! -
Coach DMac and Dale Hansen are both Iowa natives. I believe both of Hansen's grown kids are North Texas alums. Hansen interviewed Coach Mac during the regular season and the on air chemstry between the 2 was amazing. Hansen sincerely acted like he really liked our coach and was very complementary. Please be diplomatic with any emails to Hansen--don't want to piss him off. GMG!

"Our dream,” Del Conte (TCU Athletic Director) said, “is to someday play for a national championship right here, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.” Dream on... TCU is going to have a very difficult time placing above 4'th place in the Big 12 most any year IMO. They had success in the MWC using that conference as a vehicle to get where schools like Kansas State, Baylor (most years) and Iowa State have never been able to get even close to as members of the Big 12 (as in a Rose Bowl appearance)? The MWC was great for TCU but I don't see the Big 12 being that for the Horned Frogs. TCU's first 2 years in the Big 12 are a prime example of what I am talking about here. Notice which area Big 12 school didn't get a bowl game this season. Baylor is having a one out of every quarter century kind of season but IMO will soon go back down in the Big 12 pecking order along with TCU even moreso after UT-Austin (with a new head football coach on the way) and OU get back in the NCAA national championship hunt.

An important message from RV regarding HOD tickets

All this is beginning to look like a scene from the TV series MASH! Can't you just hear Radar O'Reilly making all these various changes on his P.A. mic ?- 74 replies

An important message from RV regarding HOD tickets
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Let me go on record to say I'm personally embarrassed for all concerned and even feel a bit of empathy for those who have goofed up. Like they say............."If you've ever made a mistake you'd know how they feel?" Personally, I think the HOD Bowl game along with the Indian summer day projected for next Wednesday will give us our all time number of North Texas alums and Mean Green fans at a single game in our 100 year history of playing college football. I think that's really what's going on here. GMG!- 74 replies

Ranking CUSA bowl games by importance
PlummMeanGreen replied to jdennis82's topic in Mean Green Football
According to most of the personalities on KTCK 1310 "The Ticket" all bowl games except the BCS bowls are spares. Bowl games are mostly exhibitions mean't for the schools, their football teams and their fans. If a bowl win over a school helps said school get inside a Top 25 poll then it becomes much more important. With the Lone Star State having almost 30,000,000 population and our's the only bowl game on New Years Day with a Texas-based team I like our chances to do well viewership-wise and that's where we need to do well............Texas. How many really give a damn what viewership we get in Rhode Island or its neighboring blue (and flat out damn broke) states? Some very, very interesting Texas population demographics in the below link: http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/chs/popdat/ST2013.shtm -
For HOD Bowl game unis how about that special raiment used in the short story "The Emperor's Clothes?" Might that even get more co-eds out for this game? Carry on... GMG!

An important message from RV regarding HOD tickets
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Very well said, Silver Eagle (and I just heard today that we of the wild, wild west will be heading to Big D this next Wednesday morning in a multi-vehicle Mean Green caravan). That should be fun! NOW THIS: If this UNT athletic program run by the current leaders will take care of annual season ticket sales along with Game Day attendance at Apogee commensurate with our growth of the last 30 years, then this alum will for the most part go into silent mode and one day be able to go into my eternity with a smile on my face but until then......................I'm going to raise hell until these 2 most vital areas of our ever being able to move up the NCAA totem pole get solved--no matter who does the solving. There is no one more than the fans and alums of GMG.com who want our football team to play before better crowds but we rarely have a say or an opinion on how that can be accommplished since we'd like to trust our leaders to hire those who can do the accomplishing ...... but on the other side of this attendance coin......we who do show up most all Game Days at Apogee Stadium do tend to receive blame for empty seats more than I think we should. To be a bit Clinton'ian with this but................... "Coach, we more than any group you'll know & not on the UNT payroll can feel your pain. Still, the discussion of much better attendance for future Game Days at Apogee beginning in 2014 will I'm sure have to go to the next level to the one person who'll be on the 50 yard line of the Cotton Bowl Stadium this next Wednesday performing the coin toss. Something tells me this guy whose last name is Smatresk will have a few nicely worded suggestions as far as how to put theories of having better attendance at Apogee into theories that have legs & feet to them.- 74 replies

An important message from RV regarding HOD tickets
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I've already got my tickets, Ret Faculty Fan, and that from a group of us all sitting together. Only reason I'd say buy at the Cotton Bowl on Game Day would be for those outside Denton and throughout the state of Texas & beyond and especially in light of the confusion the last few days. Those who buy on Game Day will (for the most part) I think all be wearing green or Mean Green gear so I think the HOD officials will see how large I really believe our UNT contingency will be once all is said and done. Now if they want to get all legalistic about all this as far as what ticket sales came from Denton as compared to Dallas or ticket outlets like Ticketron then that's their business of which we have no control. I'd just bet HOD officials know that North Texas has more DFW area alums (200K plus) than even UT or Texas A & M and that some from that group will buy on Game Day for a game being played in a 93,000 seat stadium. Any salesmen dream is to have or to be able to create a sense of urgency to make a sale but because of the size of the Cotton Bowl stadium we never really had that part working for us with this bowl game. In my heart of hearts and even in light of only 1 winning season the last almost 10 years, I still think our alums, students, faculty and fans will come thru on this by kick-off. Good Almighty Lord, folks, never-mind all this destination city bunk because this is a bowl game being played on New Years Day at the historic Cotton Bowl Stadium. It's a a 1 hour drive, a half day drive or even just a one day trip for many of our fans across the great state of Texas most of whom would have never gone to Memphis en mass for a game at the Liberty Bowl where C-USA champion Rice is playing. The UNT Ticket Office will be open next few days preceeding Game Day and that while school is closed for Christmas break, so those who will still can make the drive up to Denton during Apogee Stadium ticket office hours and buy (and get) their tickets on the spot. The DFW media is giving us fair coverage thus far and that will only be enhanced closer to New Years Day. We caught a huge break with the projected Indian Summer Day of close to 60 degrees on Game Day, ie, New Years Day. GMG!- 74 replies

An important message from RV regarding HOD tickets
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
HEART OF DALLAS BOWL TICKETS, BACKING OFF THOSE WHO GOOFED , AN INDIAN SUMMER KIND OF DAY ON NEW YEARS DAY AND................ A MEAN GREEN NEW YEAR RESOLUTION: If I were a fan without tickets now I'd buy them at the Cotton Bowl (as I've been saying for weeks many will be doing anyway). That would allow the UNT ticket office to deal with last minute newbies without any further delays or having new or long time no see fans to wait on the phone (since few in our society today will not wait for long if they think they are getting brushed off with a "put on hold" customer service delay. If you buy at the Cotton Bowl stadium on Game Day or alumnus friends of yours do, make sure they know to buy them at the east stadium ticket booths since North Texas fans will be sitting on that side. UNT has done all they can do with this tickets goof up situation albeit was unfortunate, but consider backing off of them. They can't un-do what has happened. Best part of all this is it seems we have a rush for new ticket purchasers to me. As some of us have been saying for awhile, I think HOD officials are going to be more than pleased with ticket purchases from a football program that still has had only 1 winning season over about 10 years. This bowl game in Big D at the Cotton Bowl Stadium on close to (a projected) 60 degree day on New Years Day could not have come at a better time in North Texas Mean Green football history. _______________________________________________________________ NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS AND A NO BRAINER MUST DO LIST FOR NORTH TEXAS FOOTBALL: (1) WE MUST HAVE MULTI-SEASON WINNING STREAKS--no more 3 steps forward-5 steps back we've mostly seen the past 30 yrs (2) BEAT A NAME SCHOOL OR ONE THAT IS A PERENNIAL TOP 25 PROGRAM. (3) OUR MEAN GREEN FOOTBALL TEAM STARTS SHOWING UP INSIDE TOP 25 POLLS (4) AND GET OUR HOME ATTENDANCE UP SINCE THAT WILL SHOW OUR FOREVER LOCAL, STATE-WIDE AND REGIONAL CRITICS THAT WE ARE FOR REAL--NOT MERELY A FLASH IN THE PAN WHICH HAS BEEN MOSTLY WHAT THE MEDIA HAS EVER SEEN FROM DENTON.- 74 replies

Check this YouTube out! Mean Joe Greene and teamates on the North Texas Freshmen team of 1965! Bunch of future NFL draft choices on that freshmen team, eh? (A Red Raider comments about North Texas freshmen team versus his Texas Tech Picadors--name of TTU freshmen team back in the day). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RWFIpqhHWY#t=0

Absolutely spot on with last sentence...

Any doubt why the mighty Horned Frogs and Mustangs didn't want any part of a schedule with a school who would have taken them to school in that era? Same could be said for the Abner Haynes and Fry eras as well (although SMU man'ed up and would schedule us even when Fry was around but..............never TCU. (insert the unique sounds of a just been castrated capon). Honestly...did any SWC school in this same era have any more NFL draft choices than North Texas (including 3 #1's)? GMG!

A Blast From The Past As Well As A Part of Our Proud UNT Football Legacy Just a Few Days Before Our HOD Bowl Game Appearance in the Historic Cotton Bowl Stadium ! (And Responding to Thread Title) That is if you count all those who played football at North Texas all 4 years when Mean Joe was in Denton albeit back in the day they had a UNT freshmen team and from there they would play 3 years of varsity play. I counted those drafted at North Texas up until the year 1971 since they also would have played on Mean Green football teams which featured the great Mean Joe Greene. Joe Greene was the very first draft choice taken in the 1969 NFL draft and that by the Steelers. Per DMac's ESPN 103.3 FM radio interview the other day.......Yes, Coach McCarney, we agree with you that it is time we bring the glory days of multi-Mean Green football players being drafted by the NFL. http://theredzone.org/DraftShowSchool.aspx?School=North%20Texas GMG! PS: Pay attention to this kind of potential color commentary potpouri, ESPN HOD Bowl game broadcasters because...........the present and most recent eras at North Texas are "NOT" our first rodeo in playing NCAA Division One football in Denton, Texas, America. PS 2: Of course, we've had numerous North Texas football players who signed free agent contracts not listed in the link above.

UNT Ticket office so busy RV answering phones!
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
You know how it is with us old 1970's hippies. CW, you have pull up there so use it to get us some more P5 OOC games at Apogee; you know, much like we had at decrepid ol' Fouts Field in the past? (It would make season ticket sales much easier for future staffers in that department with successful & proven college football ticket sells on their resume')? GMG!
