Close but still no cigar, Mr. Sunshine, Lollypops & Rainbows. Problem is and what I have observed for 4 decades is those alums/fans who will be happy with 1 winning season out of forever and never asked for something better have been the main problem at North Texas for just about forever and is why a school like UTSA is now even with us as a program in their Year 3. We keep giving our "movers & shakers" pay raises and extended contracts to those who can't get jobs anywhere else.........uh, duh? That would speaks volumes at any other NCAA FBS outpost but at UNT it does not. Have A Nice Day!

I'm Irish so my temp will hit 60 well before the rest of you who are not. (I see it's getting close to "getting picky time" on GMG.com).

63 Degrees On New Years Day! (per WBAP a minute ago) Yes, I'm a broken record on this thought but 1 winning season in a decade in this market will not get this DFW sports media's attention. Hate to say it, but we still have to earn it with more sustained success. Even this morning the WBAP sports guy read a list of upcoming bowls leaving our's off. Our fans can change that if they will by showing up en mass but I would never bet a pay check on that being a sure thing. We all want everyone to feel about this program as we do but they will not until we beat a few big schools but more important............win, win, win! At times we do it backwards at UNT; that is, we seem to build our roof first before we actually pour a solid foundation which includes a massive number of season ticket sales, better customer service skills shown to the longtime regulars along with a real promotions program; that is, the kind whereas we see every Game Day the Apogee Stadium parking lot over-flowing with school buses filled with kids who would sit in the Wing Zone and become our own unique knothole gang. Get em' while their young? This is Dallas Cowboys Country....every month of the year. If Jerry Jones farts, the entire DFW sports media are there to cover it. UNT, SMU and (yes) TCU are down the line with this media. Worst thing that could happen to SMU and even TCU is if our sleeping giant actually woke up because with our numbers that awakening would be most visible here and well beyond the North Texas Metroplex. Thus another reason we have to have a string of winning seasons and get a marketing program in place other-wise we will continue to be ignored. SMU's Mustang Mania promotions didn't receive attention its first year based on wins, but on their dramatic attendance rise when they used the Cotton Bowl stadium as their home stadium. Heck, even my dad & I attended an SMU/UH game among 54,000 fans in the Cotton Bow in 1978. Fact is, someone at SMU had to get out among the masses & work hard to get those kind of numbers in that stadium for an SMU football game but the key phrase is....."someone had to get out among the masses." Yes, in a perfect world, 93,000 would show up for our HOD Bowl game tomorrow, but in the real world where we've still only had our first winning season in quite a while and a not so large regular season tickets base to have started our bowl game ticket sales with, it's anybody's guess as to how many will show tomorrow. All in all, it's in the hands of a fan base who we all hope feel the same as we all do about the Mean Green.

ULL should have been in the first wave of CUSA's new members. Still can't quite figure that one out except I'm sure politics is at the top of the list as to why they are not......yet. Can't understand why La Tech would not want a Louisiana based CUSA rivalry if they (in fact) do not. ULL over ODU and Charlotte would have given CUSA a more established program with some pretty nice NCAA FBS venues. I just think Britt Banowsky was at panic stage at that point. Just curious to see how the new 4 team play-off affects all of us in the G5. -
I have no idea of knowing but I just think they've been swamped over there the last week with not enough manpower. Might be wrong--but that's my guess. Still doesn't make it right for you guys, though. Show proof of errors and let UNT give you some kind of percs in lieu of?

Mean Joe Greene was on Mickey Spagnola's radio show last week, mentioned our bowl game but Joe sorta' got cut off at the pass before he could really get started about his alma mater. He did briefly brag about Apogee Stadium There were many Steelers fans at the radio show that night so it was mostly NFL-oriented.

Sports illustrated HOD BOWL Breakdown
PlummMeanGreen replied to UNTeagle88's topic in Mean Green Football
The "front-running" sports media will love North Texas when it's had 10 winning seasons in a row, beats some Top 25 schools along the way and has to turn fans away from Apogee Stadium on Game Day due to a seat shortage. They want to be as much a part of this kind of thing as every one of us on GMG.com. GMG! . -
For me it will be a black sweat shirt with a pull-over T-shirt over it largely showing our bright kelly (?) green colors. I think that is what greenjoe has in mind for us all to wear on his "wear green" thread. The bright green will look good on the national TV broadcast with a bright Texas sun shining on them.

Again, there will be many tickets purchased on the day of the game at the good ol' historic Cotton Bowl ticket windows. -
At our age, Mark, should we really be asking for our heart to be too still? Nice pic! I hope we get some more definite pics of it. GMG!

ESPN New Year's Day Promos...
PlummMeanGreen replied to Mean Green Matt's topic in Mean Green Football
The link at the end of the 2'nd paragraph will tell those who will face the music much of what we will slowly have to overcome to gain respect which I believe Coach Dan McCarney has begun that process this year. For decades, many of us older alums all but begged for a a HFC for UNT with P5 major college head football coaching experience and now we have one. I think most will be able to see the difference of having such a coach with the way Coach DMac carries himself compared to what we've had for well over 30 years. http://mcubed.net/ncaaf/teams/nt.shtml I know this is the instant gratification generation who wants respect "NOW" but we are not going to get it until we put a string of winning seasons together with annuual improvement at the turnstiles. That's how Boise got theirs along with their attendance numbers which grew annually. The local media will not be impressed with us until we impress our fans and alums to come out and create SRO kind of numbers at Apogee, too, which I really think is most do-able considering where our school is located. I was watching The Herd "radio show" on ESPNU and they also kept forgetting our bowl. Hey, that's ESPN's loss--not ours. They are the ones who need to sell soap during HOD Bowl game commercials. We are already going to give the HOD Bowl people the best damn host team crowd they would have gotten from any C-USA school whether that from the old C-USA membership or the present new C-USA collection of schools--even with just a 1 season winning streak to boot. Only wish they'd been able to give us what the previous 3 C-USA schools had at this bowl game and that a P5 school with traveling fans. GMG! -

Seriously, thanks for all you do, CW! Looks like those in the pic are doing just fine. We are getting a light glaze of ice out here in the wild, wild west but..............weather person on ABC Channel 8 Dallas still said.............in the 60's on New Years Day! -
WW, I know you'd know all this but the younger and newer posters might not: UH didn't integrate until they signed Warren McVae of San Antonio Brackenridge High School....and that was almost a decade after North Texas had integrated in 1956 with North Texas Mean Green'er and 1959 NCAA Division 1 All American Abner Haynes. FFR, who dat' in the pic with Abner? http://startelegram.typepad.com/cowboys_stadium/2010/01/i-grew-up-a-huge-cowboys-fan-and-spent-many-many-afternoons-jumping-for-joy-and-collapsing-into-tears-the-catch----cant-eve.html

Short and sweet segment on our team helping to feed the less fortunate. Coach McCarney has retina issues with light for those who wonder about the sun glasses.

Did I read or hear on a YouTube where both teams will be guests of the Dallas Stars who play the St. Louis Blues in a match which begins at 5:00 PM today and televised on FSSW? If not...please disregard. GMG! -
And the skinny on those 3 are ? ? ? ? ?

No excuses now, bab'eeeee! It is the hope of many of us older alums to see some of our fellow students from the 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, etc, etc, etc at this game. If you know any of em'...get them to the Cotton Bowl this Wednesday AM even if you have to give them one of your tickets and bring them! Such an important day for our entire school--both young and old plus we get to meet and/or see our new UNT prez' who will do the pre-game coin toss. GMG!
