Agreeing on issues? Now that I can drink to! ogs....this board is nothing to me but a sports bar where it gets loud and boisterous at times. Please....nothing really ever personal even though it comes off that way at times. When I'm over the top (and I admit I am from time to time), it's usually because my blood sugar is close to or is spiking which for me lately has been too often. In fact, it's time for another finger stick. DamnType 2 D! It's a curse! I know who you are from others and know you're a damn great North Texas alum and Mean Green fan. ................................................. I keep on trying to be. GMG!

Derek Thompson is a Mean Green Hero

“…you can’t please all of the people all of the time”. (Abe Lincoln) J.M., I guess the 24 hour time to celebrate this win is over? Myself? I'm going to celebrate this one 'till I'm 100 years old; that is, the next 37 years. You're a great fan and alum, sir! GMG! PS: So are you, greenminer, but do savor the win a little longer before we all decide who belongs in the UNT Athletic HOF. -
Dan McCarney is a big Charlie Strong fan
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
A McCarney/Strong Friendship? Many forward thinking minds on GMG.com would eventually come up with: A home and home series versus the UL Cardinals? Of course, after UL A.D. officials would take a glimpse at our all time W/L series record against them they could also politely decline. http://www.mcubed.net/ncaaf/series/nt/louis.shtml GMG!- 16 replies

Well, we saw a bit of that the last 2 weeks in the ticket office prior to the bowl game, didn't we now? You and I are rarely on the same page which for me I see as a good thing, Mr. Here Come Da' Judge of All Good Eggs. Signed: Father Time (and with an opinion of which most have proven to be mostly right when it concerns UNT athletics the last 40 years). On this message board or among UNT's forever career and non-NCAA FBS talent bureaucrats, it's not always the right or most popular thing to be....right. GMG!

A belated congrats to Coach Benford and the Mean Green! I thoroughly enjoyed watching that entire game on FSSW. Coach John Wooden who I was once priviledged to see coach his UCLA Bruin team against Guy Lewis UH Coogs in a pretty famous basketball game held inside the Houston Astrodome said this (among many others of his quotes). You can't let praise or criticism get to you. It's a weakness to get caught up in either one. John Wooden GMG!

Mention the installment payout part to Silver E. on the way home from the HOD, Jack.....but would that become a bookkeeper's nightmare? Young families would probably love that idea, too.

North Texas Mean Green Are Lone Star State’s Waking Giant
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
How about......... North Texas is leaving behind its long time role as one of the Wizard of Oz's munchkins for a much higher profile role as Paul Bunyan along with his blood-splattered axe and one nasty, filthy attitude? Carry on....- 10 replies

And Bill, what would Fritz Von Erick have said? GMG! I left my coat and Ducks Unlimited gloves in the back seat of your truck. I'll get with you next week or whatever. Maybe you can meet me and FFR at our next MG Coffee Club meeting at McD's?

Questions and comments about the bowl
PlummMeanGreen replied to JesseMartin's topic in Mean Green Football
As did I... You know, the irony of our alma mater's success at the Cotton Bowl Stadium on New Years Day with a great Mean Green win and our "lights out" record-breaking turnout of Mean Green fans is.... ...in the Fall of 1981, many of us have commented to each other thru the years that our experience at the Cotton Bowl stadium that season may have been our all time lows as North Texas Mean Green fans and with 1 win that season making it worse but....... ......this New Years Day at the HOD Bowl game created such a feeling of total euphoria for many of us as we sat with our own looking from one end of the stadium to the other end at a sea of green. One Mean Green fan sitting by me got all misty eyed during the first part of the bowl game and truth be told I think many of us older fans had a similar experience as well. It was a great day for young and old alike; that is, all of us who bleed green and make no bones about it. Don't know if we will ever duplicate what we did this last Wednesday during whatever time those of us 60 and above have left on this good mean green earth, but it just wouldn't surprise me if we did.................and more. Former Guyer Standout Coming Home
PlummMeanGreen replied to filmerj's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
All of us welcome home our favorite sons of Denton, Texas, America! ...'twould love for some of them to even try us out as true freshmen from time to time but either way, we would love for them to wear a North Texas Mean Green uniform and make the home town proud of them all over again! GMG! -
Talking season ticket sales for next Fall in January? Have I died & gone to Mean Green heaven? Carry on....I like the subject. GMG!

I'm sore'eeeeee (Norm Hitzghes saying "sorry") but that's tantamount to seeing the 2'nd Coming of the Messiah (in person) and then saying. ...If "He" keeps on doing stuff like that we might actually become converts. Moral of..........."THAT" ? What the heck else more does a fan need after they've been around 35,000 other Mean Green fans, see the best gol' darned College Marching Band in the Land (Drum Line, too) and watch Coach Dan McCarney's mighty Mean Green win on national TV at a New Years Day Bowl game in Big D ? I'm sore'eeeee.....but I just don't get it sometimes with a few who live in the shadows of Denton's largest employer & producer of many cash-paying customers (students) for the locals, too. GMG!

If our staff high 5's yesterday's greatness the next 5 years, we would be in danger of going back to our former culture. Moral of that? Build on top of the greatness that happened yesterday at the historic Cotton Bowl stadium--don't just sit on it and celebrate it forever. We celebrated the Super Pit with visions of Final 4 (or at least Sweet 16) talent "on the way" for way too long after its grand opening and just look what that got us the last 40 years? GMG!

DT/#7 ! I was country when country wasn't cool...I was for DT/#7 when that wasn't cool around here, either. -
Maybe they were pulling your leg in disgust after what they'd seen with 36,000 Mean Green fans on ESPNU, VE? Just a theory with that. To them we are supposed to keep on being the same old impotent athletic program in Little D. If so with that, then I think Dan McCarney's Mean Green football program is going to greatly disappoint all of them. GMG!

Great post, Stebo! Don't be a stranger! Hope you are making millions out there....you are one of the good guys who deserve it. PMG

Great to have shot the bull with ya', KRAM1! (My bullet proof vest worked quite well, too--did yours)? GMG!

Yesterday was a huge step toward meeting this so very important prime objective (as expressed in bold letters) for our school's football program to move forward. We can no longer afford to go back to our 3 steps forward--5 back days again. Never thought I was going to live long enough to witness what I saw yesterday at the historic Cotton Bowl. Now I'm getting greedy, I want to see it happen again and again and again and..... KUDO's to all our fans for setting the HOD Bowl's most tickets ever sold by any one school award! Damn! I'm Proud To Be Mean Green! GMG! PS: City of Denton, UNT or whoever: Please get us more access roads in and out of Apogee Stadium and the Mean Green Village. We are going to need them sooner than later. Thanks in advance!

This bowl game, our record-breaking North Texas fan's support and (of course)............... Coach McCarney along with his dynamic Mean Green football team's win is the absolute apex of my 40 years of following this program. I was in the emergency room at Weatherford Regional the previous 24 plus hours with a diabetic issue of way too low blood sugar,a bit a deyhydration, etc, but I wasn't going to miss this North Texas extravaganza if they would have had to wheel me in the (now) even more historic Cotton Bowl Stadium. Like all of you..........I couldn't be prouder of our Coach DMac plus his team, the mighty Mean Green and then.............us! GMG! PS: Yesterdays North Texas amazing fan support would have needed a 35,000 plus seat Apogee Stadium to hold our crowd. That's all I'm going to say about that and just use the rest of these 24 hours post bowl win to celebrate!

All of the 60's were truly a memorable era as we finish out our 100'th year of playing NCAA football at North Texas! GMG! PS: Off with the computer and on my way out the door to go join a multi-vehicle caravan from out here in the wild, wild western part of the Metroplex en route to the historic Cotton Bowl stadium and..... A MEAN GREEN BOWL WIN ON... NEW YEARS DAY !
