  1. Always wanted just a symbol on our helmet instead of letters and words. You leave it on your helmet long enough, have several winning seasons in a row plus a few bowl game wins AND Top 25 and even some college football fans in Rhode Island would know who the North Texas Mean Green are. I like the helmet with the green Son of Worm best albeit a white SOW would show up better for the TV cameras. Maybe a white SOW with apple green trim?
  2. Stop the wenus measuring, you're coming up short.
  3. Mostly agree especially the part with all our various name changes....but is there any reason for someone not even alive when we were NTSU still calling us....NTSU? And in a few cases I'm talking about some of the national broadcast media, too. GMG!
  4. Now that is exactly what most all of us wanted to hear. Still a weird situation just reading other's posts on the subject.
  5. Billy, can you or anyone update some of us on Dajon's true injury situation unless that is not for public consumption.
  6. Classic! TCU is going to have a hard time in the Big 12 as in this "bowl-less" season.........somewhat like they did in the SWC's last 25 years.
  7. Calling us by our "none name" is basically all they've got on the Hilltop. Sorta' sad to see a once great program to have gone so far down. Not really sure why (basically) a handful of their rich alums kept Mustang football on life support by building Ford Stadium to be honest.
  8. Why would any poster from a school who just lost a bowl game want to seemedly vent on the message board of a school which just won theirs? Have I missed another trend in college smack boards here? Our 2 schools won't be playing any time soon especially since North Texas is apparently back in win cycle mode so what's the point of all this..........really? Only one missing in all this now is GL2Greatness, Todge-Rodge and "Someone" from the MWC board--college smack boards' holy trinity all in one.
  9. This subject is decades old, but still count how many times we've actually played--just not that many times. You ought to hear Abner Haynes personal account of the first time his UNT team played at UH. Sunshine, Lollypop and Rainbows this subject all you want but it ain't going to happen too many more times in most of your futures, either; but look at the good side of all this, we do have a home game with Nichols State this Fall instead of schools like UH.
  10. Houston looked like shit the other day and their stadium looks like a legos and erector set deluxe edition Should have built it smaller as to afford more brick and concrete, Coogies? First high wind coming off Galveston Bay could blow the whole damn thing down.
  11. Not a chance they pull out of this game. Our 2 schools have a history of playing each other and UT seemed to never look at our 2 deep when they scheduled us during any decade, either.
  12. I've hesitated to bring all that up, too, Jack, and glad it was you who did (and not me). I've got your back, though. Happy New Year to you and Jessica!
  13. There was a reason they offered a JUCO QB who could enroll now a scholarship. I remember a time not so long ago when we had not more than 2 QB's to discuss during the off season. GMG!
  14. Mucho gracias, Senor Huff. Especially enjoyed what the ESPN broadcast team had to say about 2:35:43 on the video. GMG!
  15. I'm not talking timelines, but history of college recruiting in Texas. "THE" university most my life has always gotten the cream of the crop. And our nearest win over UT as I recall was first time we ever played Coach Darrell Royal's Longhorns in 1976 when Earl Campbell had to make a last minute TD run to beat North Texas 17 to 14. Yes, post-Indian Wars with that "near win", but in the Lone Star State recruiting is recruiting and UT has most always led the parade in that no matter what decade or what era. Last I checked, Mack Brown had recruiting classes that were pretty high up in the national rankings so in that regard.........little has changed "in recruiting" from DKR all the way to Mack Brown. We will be playing most of Mack Brown's recruits at DKR Memorial next Fall I think most would agree and they will be favored to beat us as most would agree with that, too. GMG!
  16. Nothing that I think that ever went as far as any courthouse. Plus, if he were were tainted in any way, would he still be getting high recommendations from his peers when said school's human resources all had to check out his resume?
  17. In our past "near wins' over UT-Austin, anyone don't think they out-recruited us every time as far as the recruiting services were concerned? I guess that's why they still play the game on the gridiron and not the computer? One thing I don't think the recruiting services seem to always get in their star system ratings is the heart factor. For instance, how many stars did they give our #31 who just happened to be a walk-on this year and one of the best open field sure tacklers I've seen in 50 years of watching NCAA football? GMG!
  18. After each of UNT's 4 bowl games last decade the UNT Athletic Dept. hired a professional media group to do a DVD on each of those 4 bowl year's respective seasons highlights with the entire bowl game as part of those DVD's. I expect they will do the same for this season and this bowl game, too. GMG!
  19. And that one of their alums and SMU football lettermen, ie, Governor Bill Clements signed the bill that changed our name to the University of North Texas. (Don't think that will stop them, though....they like to call you whatever your name ain't. Sign of real maturity on their part and some of that probably coming from the very special kind of breeding many of them received as to turn out that way). Game on, SMU?
  20. Don't put all your marbles in one bag or all hopes on one signee. You set yourselves up for a big disappointment if you do. Getting the "X" factor at UNT would be huge, but there are a helluva bunch of kids who play Texas HS football as in....160,000? And amazingly, UT, TAMU and others in our state cannot sign all of them. We obviously have coaches who can sign, develop and coach projects much like most schools at the NCAA FBS level have to do, too. Still (and once again) signing Xavier would be a good start in this our new era of winning football at North Texas. GMG!
  21. Interesting thread... This? We must build the foundation to our house before we can build a roof that will hold. New Years Day we all saw a green-tinted perfect storm take place that ended with the culmination of the largest gathering of North Texas Mean Green fans in history. It honest to goodness had to happen sooner than later with our humongous numbers of all our various UNT constituancies and it happened....this last Wednesday, New Years Day. Yet Apogee is still our foundation and we have to start filling it up with fans of whom record-season tickets has to become an annual occurance until there are no more season tickets available for purchase due to keeping enough seats available for the UNT student body. At this time expansion of Apogee would have to begin. (Only need 9K seats to make it a 40,000 seat stadium). The State Fair of Texas never did it for SMU back in the day when they still used the Cotton Bowl Stadium as their home. The day they (infamously) drew 5,000 versus Rice the State Fair was in session as I recall. I know.....UNT and SMU....apples and oranges......different sized constituencies and all that, but we still have to build our base at Apogee before we can depend on another Perfect Storm of Mean Green fandom at the historic Cotton Bowl Stadium whether in regular season games there from time to time against Army or the actual HOD Bowl Game. And lest we forget, City of Denton AND Denton County would like some Apogee Stadium based games that have traveling fans staying in all their hotels and motels, too. And like another 1 or 2 of you have already posted elsewhere..........we don't need to shoot ourselves in the foot with what support we have in Denton as it is. Some of us saw us do that during the Fry/Texas Stadium era (and experiment) too. IMO....our UNT traveling fans base is not bowl tested enough to know if we can duplicate what we did last Wednesday in the numbers we had We also have to keep in mind that........we had almost 1 full month to sell tickets for the HOD Bowl game, too. Promotions has been talked about by several the last few days on GMG.com more than I can remember. Not sure you can take stripes off bureaucratic "we won't change what we been doing for anybody" zebras and wonder if anything changes at all even this next Fall in the areas of promotions but this for certain............ ................we are still in the DFW Metroplex and we should still promote our Mean Green football product in the Fall of 2014 as if we actually won no games in 2013. The news cycle is very short in our world today and with college students...they will forget quickly the events of New Years Day and find other things to do this next Fall, too; that is, if we don't make Game Day an event worth putting on their personal schedules. 02. GMG!
  22. Have had my Mean Green/Texas flag flying out of my reaer auto window since I took it off Silver Eagle's pickup truck window post bowl win. (I loaned it to him for the ride to and fro' from Big D). Several times last few days out here in Parker County got some quick honks off I-20 from those who saw the auto flag. Then I make sure all the TCU customers at my Walmart have to look at my UNT cap and MG T-shirt over my black sweat shirt and a few expressions from Froggy fans I wish I could have caught on camera. A couple of UT and TAMU alums/fans have also been complementary of our team and even fan presence at the Cotton Bowl Stadium. This is all so nice and so long over-due. I hope we make this an annual habit now and I think we will. GMG!
  23. Let's put some music to that, ADLER! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsaAx7YGork
  24. I want North Texas to have a future home game at Apogee Stadium with UT-Austin. (If Central Fla. can schedule UT so can we no matter the seating differential). HINT: Per ADLER.....add seats. Coach Mac can make this happen since he and Coach Strong are buds'. Hey, folks, sometimes its really who you know. Still.............."we're going to need a bigger boat, uh, stadium." Not crazy about opening with the Horns or anyone on the road, though. IMO......North Texas must always open the season at Apogee with a team we are competitive or can beat. GMG!
