Still, ULL does not have 225,000 alums within 1 hour of their stadium nor is it located in a population center that is closing in on 8,000,000 citizens. We all respect ULL, but our upside & ceiling is so much higher especially now as we add winning to the formula really makes it a New Day in Mean Green Country since we never had the vital "W" ingrediant before for most years and decades. Winning + Record Numbers of Season Ticket Sales + SRO at the App' and we're on the way. GMG!

Mostly agree with ya', meangreener, but what do we do with those other 5,000 Mean Green fans who made up the 35,000 MG fans all of whom were quite visible and that group only 45 minutes away from our campus at the................... historic Cotton Bowl Stadium? Whether fellow posters agree or agree to disagree, but those 35,000 Mean Green fans gives us a brand new ceiling of which we better by gosh' make certain that we make Apogee accessible to all of them and................THIS: ......I'm not even counting all those who are still Denton and Denton County border-liners or casuals who we did not see with the rest of us on New Years Day at the historic Cotton Bowl Stadium. "We're going to need a bigger boat." (Jaws) GMG! .

Lifetime Contract for Mac? (ARCHIVE)
PlummMeanGreen replied to filmerj's topic in Mean Green Football
We got Mac at a unique time in his life and career and I hope he retires at North Texas as the winningest coach in Mean Green football history percentage-wise since Coach Odus Mitchell's tenure was quite long. GMG! -
Happy Birthday Long Jim and Mean Green Matt
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Happy Birthday to the 2003 National Info Tech Man of the Year, LJ! (Well, didn't that sound good albeit not true but should be true). You, too, MG Matt! GMG! -
UTSA scares me because of what could happen during the next conference re-alignment and that other conference boards and blogs have said will most definitely happen. I defer to South Florida and Central Florida as examples of what schools who have true FBS level attendance numbers and solid ticket sales numbers can do in so short a period of time. I fear many of our's "going along to get along up there" (UNT) has prevented or slowed down our school immensely from duplicating the short term success stories of a USF, UCF and (now) UTSA. Yall have no idea how much the UTSA part of all this galls me as much as the rest of you. Shoulda' only been sitting with Gray Eagle and me during the UTSA's game's final minutes....on 2'nd thought...probably good that you didn't. (Fact is, our team was as flat as I'd seen them in 3 years at Apogee--not taking away from the Road Runners efforts). UTSA has been beating us in season ticket sales and attendance from the git-go. Does it really matter what KFC did for their tickets distribution because even that took an impressive amount of work and labor to pull that off. They still sold many, many season tickets on top of the KFC thing. If we make the right changes, we can change our plight in Mean Green Country but North Texas most my lifetime has been very slow to change when it has been blatantly obvious that changes needed to be made. Ticket sales + attendance + a winning program seem to all 3 b at the top of the list of successful NCAA FBS programs. If one of those is lacking then it's like we have a piston missing in the engine. Yes, a theme I post about to point of ad nausem ,even to myself but..... ........I won't stop till I see North Texas make changes in its sales and marketing program in either overall philosophy or personnel and with a staff that has the skins on the wall and proven abilities to solves these major longterm short-comings at North Texas because ultimately those 2 areas will determine our future at the NCAA FBS level, especially in any future upgraded conference affiliation. Didn't take UTSA too long to figure out what it's taken others about a century of hitting heads against too many brick walls to count. Might it even be safe to say that had North Texas emulated what East Carolina did in wins and impressive football attendance averages their last 25 years that it could have just as easily been North Texas that the Big 12 would have had serious inquiries and meetings with even over private school TCU? I think most feel we have the coaching aspects of all this quite solved, but Coach McCarney need not ever have to ask about attendance again at Apogee Stadium and this next Fall if he has to do that again......then its time for about a hundred or more of us to march on city hall (so to speak) or ask for a quartely meeting with the new UNT president for a real get down to it Q & A time.

USA Today gives UNT A- for 2013-14 Season
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Just one more time with our winning team and winning Mean Green crowd on New Years Day! -
PIC: A young Richard Harris ("A Man Called Horse") look alike? Well....kinda' sorta' ? Coach McCarney must have gotten some more budget monies for assistant coaches, too? If so......deserved and great! GMG!

End of the Country Club in Austin
PlummMeanGreen replied to Baby Arm!'s topic in Mean Green Football
Coach McCarney and Coach Strong are friends. They worked together at U of Florida. Should we use that friendship to try for a future home game at an expanded Apogee versus the Texas Longhorns? You damn right we should. Why not, everyone else uses "who they know" in NCAA FBS scheduling. (You ever secure a very nice paying job because you knew someone at the new job who gave you the out of the park deal-making recommendation)? 10,000 additional Apogee seats X's 10,000 traveling UT fan's gate receipts would probably fund one or two of our non-revenue varsity sports teams for a year. Then schedule similar OOC teams with similar numbers of traveling fans every year at Apogee and you have "Your Main Reason" to make Apogee the size of what UH"s stadium will be. Should UH really have a larger stadium than North Texas? If some may think not, then some should quit saying how similar our schools are. You get such OOC opponents (as UT) and then you'd get more of our HOD Bowl Mean Green crowd up to Denton and with those 35,000 MG fans only leaves 5K empty seats at Apogee. If we don't think forward similar to that then we will soon go back to our old ways. Anyone want to do that all over again? GMG! -
A breath of fresh air kind of post, UNT86... Who would wish ill will on any of our Mean Green football players--present and past? Good luck BB and thanks for considering North Texas in the first place no matter what the scenario was. Sorry things did not work out. GMG!

UNT moves forward on Hotel and Convention Center deal
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Could we make Denia happy with a better (and expanded) Bonnie Brae along with additional access roads to get our fans in and out of the Mean Green Village quicker on Game Days? If so...................I VOTE LET'S MAKE ALL THE DENIA'ITES VERY, VERY HAPPY PEOPLE! GMG! -
Jan 09 2014 12:34 PM | houstonmeangreen We all have had hopes for better and bigger things at UNT....some of us for over 30 yrs. We were helped along when they build the athletic center..we just needed a stadium....then...ground breaking and we ended up with Apogee...just a great stadium. We have seen a great hire in Dan Mac and the other coaches, tailgating has been great...marketing seems to have improved...now we are in CUSA...attendance has improved and the students are really pulling their weight. After the HOD bowl, the crowd and the events...what a fun time, and perhaps a gaze into the future of what could be. My vision just got bigger...I'm more hopeful...the AD and admin are onboard....momentum..thats what it is. We will soon have a new hotel /convention center and bar/restaurant at Apogee. All we need to do is capitalize on whats happening now....momentum ! So, I see potential...potential for a big step-up in attendance, season tickets, exposure...I see we can hopefully get crowds near capacity at Apogee and then look at expanding with a deck and maybe add'l suites ...say 10000 seats. More FUN for everyone..UNT game as the local EVENT..not to be missed. Hopefully the velocity of growth in the UNT football program will be good for the next several years...we will catch up where we should be....finally. So........has your vision changed since the HOD Bowl?....Do you think Dan Mac or RV's vision has changed....Is your vision Bigger? __________________________ Very well said, houstonmeangreen... We need an army of North Texas fans and alums to share houstonnmeangreen's vision for North Texas. We need not go back to an un-illustrious past steered by unsuccessful modes of operations.

When will actual dates be attached to these games? I'll be buying 2 season tickets for this Fall, but am getting wedding inquiries for this Fall now. Most couples book their DJ's 6 to 12 months in advance as most all wedding magazines recommend. GMG!

UNT moves forward on Hotel and Convention Center deal
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I think the Pedestrian Bridge will come in handy for those who will also be coming to conventions in Denton. It's really not that far a walk from that side of the interstate. I am more concerned with the need for more roads in and out of the Mean Green Village on Game Days because once we start filling that stadium getting in and out is going to be a pain in the butt. USA Today gives UNT A- for 2013-14 Season
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Thanks a million for that, Stix! Even more amazing is how many UNT fans were even sitting on the UNLV side. too. Wonder how the upper deck would have looked if they had bought their tickets there and sat with the other Mean Green fans upon high? Back when the Cotton Bowl Stadium seated only 75K instead of the present 92K we would have been getting oh so very close to having the number of fans that Texas or OU would have on each of their respective sides back in that era. Wish they hadn't built that stadium so darn large, but to keep the Texas/OU game I suppose they had to do just that. GMG! -
Sometimes a recruit needs to understand the recruiting process from a head football coach or assistant's perspective and just say "yes, I'm coming" or...... "no, I'm not coming."(And then some kids truly just need a bit more time). We seem to get so many kids who were close to signing with UNT initially until Big Time U baffles them with whatever they need to baffle them with to get the Big Time U sale.............. ..............then said recruit goes with Big Time U ignoring their initial gut feelings about going to UNT and... ..............then they get miserable; buyer's remorse sets in with some of them their freshmen year a Big Time U and that after they've sit on the bench all season long when they were told they would not and..... .............then..........its at such times we start getting inquiries from some of that group who in the recruiting process liked UNT first but waffled on their decision and went elsewhere. Coach McCarney will listen to their predicament with true interest but must wonder why they just didn't go with their gut feeling about signing a L.O.I with the Mean Green from the git-go GMG !

And I think what took place on New Years Day at the historic Cotton Bowl stadium with one Jolly Green Awakened Giant seems to have gotten the attention of some across the Lone Star State who really expected this Jolly Green Giant to just keep on sleeping. Some from other Texas intercollegiate outposts come over here to GMG.com to post what some could interpret from those oft' visiting posters seemed frustrations (along with usually empty bragging points) that North Texas has (or will soon) pass their school due to what they witnessed firsthand via ESPNU with that humongous UNT fan support on New Years Day along with..................a Mean Green bowl win. Last I checked, not all Texas based schools who went bowling actually got bowl wins. In fact, some schools based here in the Lone Star State had no bowl games to go to at all due to being ineligible or not enough wins. I think we'd all like to see North Texas go back to the HOD Bowl game but next time around have a Big 10 or Big 12 opponent with all their own traveling fans.........now the turnstiles count for that kind of matchup could become very interesting. GMG!

Fellow Parker County equestrian, what is the present use of that large concrete deck attached to the Athletic Center now? Of course, the first plan was to have that area as "Deck 2.0" but that was when the huge jumbotron was going to be somewhere near the Wing Zone. Seems like it was a last minute decicion to move the main video board to the south end zone instead. GMG! PS: U ready for another McD's coffee club alumnus meeting?

Notice the control freak aspect of "Do We Have To Drop UNT?" Would there be many, many new cases of Turret Syndrome-like nervous ticks over off Mockingbird Lane if UNT actually dropped SMU off our schedule? I think both schools should tee it up and have thought that since 1973. Granted, SMU (like TCU) would never play us during the Abner Haynes (50's), Mean Joe Greene (60's) and much of the Fry era (70's) because of what the obvious results would have been in our favor in the all time series W/L department, but that kind of thing would have only made such a local series make even more sense (and cents). Past athletic directors at SMU and TCU have always very wisely picked the eras that they would schedule North Texas and that much to our chagrin. GMG!

While Running Errands for the Boss....
PlummMeanGreen replied to DeepGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
So true... If we lose a horde of MGC members to some epidemic then that list of names will get even smaller. North Texas needs to quit acting like we're the chosen frozen and open up our doors for many, many more new faces; but like an evangelistic mega-church (whose pews are full every Sunday) we will probably have to just go out and get them. That New Years Day UNT Mean Green crowd at the historic Cotton Bowl stadium still excites this alum for what our future could really be, but that kind of thing still has to have a thorough follow-up. UNT football "in" and SMU "out" for 2014 -- #27
PlummMeanGreen replied to STE's topic in Mean Green Football
What many of us for decades thought could be a great local rivalry may still never be since (after all) it does take 2 to Tango. SMU and the Southwest private schools should have formed their own conference a long time ago since they think most public universities have both a mixture of cooties and lice. GMG! -

PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Still can't get over how a school we never play has those who are so interested in what we're doing over here. They almost seem like a wide receiver who hears our footsteps as we're fixin' to come in for the kill? UH's Scout message board is www.CoogFans.com Bet they would more than welcome some UNT's hot sports opinions on their board, too. (If you are already registered with any Scout forum your same login info will get you on UH's "football" message board). I've posted over there as MeanGreenGem but never posted anything condescending as a visitor as we seem to get from some of their posters who post on Harry's board. GMG! PS: Off topic, but does someone have a panoramic pic or view of the UNT's fans side at the Cotton Bowl Stadium from end zone to end zone that someone would like to share on this board? -
The only dead horses I see are those who apparently have guns pointed at them forcing them to read threads that gets them and their little Mean Green world all bent out of shape. I have one fairly known fellow alum at North Texas so pissed off at me for having opinions that apparently differ from his that at a recent game he was even trying to bring my personal life into the discussion. If he ever does that again I'm going to slap his teeth down his throat and probably spend my first ever night in jail for doing it. If all this makes you so tense, why do you persist in reading it and badgering those who don't share the same vision of North Texas you and a hardy handful of your buds on this message board always seem to have? And then comes all of yours and "the elite cliques" Saul Alinsky'esque "isolating and demonization" of posters whose ideas merely differ from some of yours? So progressive of ya'... Freedom of Speech still exists last I checked on that in the last 24 hour news cycle and most of us plan to exercize that right. In fact, some of us who still cling to our guns and religion will guarantee that we will do that because after all.............didn't our Founding Fathers of whom many were our very own ancestors have to do it to preserve the republic at times? (now insert "Battle Hymn of the Republic")

Red Oak cornerback Garrett Davis commits per Vito
PlummMeanGreen replied to GreenBat's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
With the kind of speed I understand White has I don't think Coach McCarney would ever turn down. Good to great team speed is what will separate North Texas from all those schools we say we don't want to be associated with. It sure did for Boise State. Not comparing this recruiting story with White, but North Texas is the school that once turned down Spud Webb for a basketball scholarship back in the day. Yes, I know.....quite unbelievable and that happening during our much too long "Totally Brain Dead & W/O A Clue About College Varsity Sports" era in Denton. -
Think its been said but for those special talent players that need stipends might the NFL be available to them early on? How many 2'nd or 3'rd team players do you hear talking up the idea of stipends? The P5 folks need not forget the G5 voting coalition who would probably approve most anything the P5'ers want just for G5 self-preservation. Think I've already read that some G5 conferences would be ready for stipends if that day comes. That would probably send many upstarts back to the FCS truth be known depending on the amount of said stipends. GMG!
