  1. We have exceptional out of the box creative recruiting thinking with this UNT coaching staff who know how to communicate to high school kids the advantage of the gray shirt as to how it will help their future and ultimate success at the college level. Some need the gray shirt but Xavier Washington is one who does not........but that in my most biased opinion, of course; also coupled with the fact that North Texas needs defensive linemen.........now. GMG!
  2. I'd say lets sign him first, let him suit up, let him go thru 2-a-days, let him run behind a pretty damn good NCAA FBS offense line and then...........let's see what happens. We signed 4 stars (as referenced by Cooley) who played like 1 stars, then we've signed 1 to 2 stars who are now in the North Texas Athletic Hall of Fame maybe some who made it to the NFL but each one had his big chance to make it or not make it at Fouts Field and now Apogee Stadium. We all speculate about recruiting which is half the fun, but none of us are the Great Santini and have no idea how they will pan out....but we can only dream that they will be our next future NFL star who played his college ball at North Texas. Carry on now along with me and the rest of the guys (and girls) as we all........speculate? GMG!
  3. From all accounts, Xavier is in the upper academic percentile of his HS class as it is. Not sure he'd need to ease into academics no matter who he signs with. Just sayin'...that's all. He knows who wants and needs him most. If he says see ya' later North Texas what more can we say than... "good luck, Xavier." One player does not a program make, but Xavier I feel knows by now which college forum message board has given him the most love but as they say.............it still takes 2 to tango. Amazing how so many of us live a segment of our lives thru the eye lenses of 17 and 18 year olds, isn't it? Yet...would we be here if we didn't like it? LOL! GMG!
  4. Agree....North Texas "IS" pretty darn healthy at this position and if huge crowds scare the kid then (in deed) he made the right choice.
  5. Agree... The disdain that La Tech alums/fans have for UL is almost to the point of being ridiculous. It almost reminds me of the same contempt they had for us not so long ago when they were coat-tailing SMU to gain favor over us for CUSA membership back when we wanted in that league last decade--pre-Apogee Stadium. Tulane and all 500 of their fans going with the other AAC "Has Been Football Programs of Decades Past" should have been more than a a clear signal for C-USA Commish' Banowsky; that is, to replace the Green Wave with the Rajun Cajuns. CUSA just simply jumped the gun by adding ODU, Charlotte and others, but at that time panic mode seemed to have already set in at the CUSA offices in Irving due to all the non-stop G5 schools jumping mostly caused by the Big East/AAC and MWC (as in Boise's and San Diego State's waffling to and fro). We just simply need another Louisiana presence in CUSA now that Tulane has left. Another Texas school should be completely out of the question. In CUSA's case, 4 from the Lone Star State is company but 5 would really be a crowd. GMG! Sunday AM Addendum: If FBS falls apart (which IMHO is 50/50 that it will with lawsuits that could very well follow); but I feel at some point in the future the CUSA West will form an even more regionalized conference of its own with additions such as U of L. (Hey! We've wanted folks to call us UNT rather than the name on my degree so if the R C's want to be called U of L maybe we should just call them that? I'm sure at some point the state of Louisiana will make it official).
  6. A Texas HS 3 star gray shirt offer from Northwestern insults not only Xavier (in my opinion) but also Texas High School football in general. Granted, we still don't know the full story on any of this yet, so the above statement merely represents a sports bar type of thinking out loud HSO. (I may now need a bottle of wine). Don't Mess With Texas or Our Texas HS football stars ! I don't like to see our Texas guys receive this kind of treatment if this is how it really plays out on the gray shirt part. If it were a gray shirt offer all the time, might they have told Xavier that first before he boarded the airliner for Chicago? Or...maybe they did and he just wanted the official visit to Winter Wonderland. Honestly, if its "only" a gray shirt, I don't see Xavier taking it. GMG!
  7. UPDATE! I think Northwestern are apparently only entertaining 2 this weeked one of whom is the great Xavier Washington. Have no idea of the validity of the "gray shirt" offers issue. Nick Medline is the Scout writer for Northwestern U and this is a gray shirt question directed at him: Yes. And yes. RT @dar0628: @NickMedline … Isn't there still a 2014 spot left? Washington and McGee both have gray shirt offers GMG!
  8. I can't recall ever seeing Brelan Chancellor muffing a kick-off or fumbling a punt return....ever. B.C. was one heckuva' ball hawk (to use a baseball phrase). I hope Willie Ivery. would be as sure-handed (as I'm sure he would be...most likely). GMG!
  9. fastball.............those words are music to all our ears! fastball & his HOD Bowl Game Experience ='s New 2014 Mean Green Season Tickets Holder ='s LIfe Time MG Fan ! (me'thinks this story will be multiplied many times over come Fall, 2014). GMG!
  10. BillySee 58, do you think there might even be a few HS coaches politics involved with the star rankings as I think it used to be when we "only" had Dave Campbell's Texas Football as our only recruiting guide back in the day? For instance, I read back in they day when a coach really liked one of his players and wanted him to get a 'ship offer to USC (or the like) he would call up BillySee58, I honestly think most all on this board have all this stars business in the right perspective but...........still kinda' makes all this fun during this part of the year. Most would know that many of our 2 stars will be future Mean Green star athletes in Mean Green Country, too.
  11. Senior moment but now corrected, Mrs. Y'Barbo...(sorry 'bout that). I know how I felt when long time friend Harry spelled my name "Plumber" instead of the English spelling of...Plummer. ADDENDUM: For you who didn't get this very impressive post card with the message from Mason you might not be on the UNT mailing list? If you're not....I'd bet you would want them to know that up there and correct it. Just sayin'... GMG!
  12. BillySee58: What is our composite listings of projected 3 star signings this Wednesday and counting those who we might get lucky and sign, too.....like maybe...........the X Man? Also, how close are some of our 2 stars to being actual 3 stars, too? (I'd wonder how many 2 star recruits back in the day are actually in the North Texas Athletic Hall of Fame today like in..........a whole bunch of em')? Thanks for that info in advance, pal, and we all appreciate what you, Harry and others do in all this recruiting coverage. GMG!
  13. Below quote is written under Caleb's video from the Scout Recruiting Service....(still kinda' strange that Rivals gives him 3 stars and Scout still "only" gives him 2 stars--will that number go up from Scout as it should)? OR.....Is The 2 Star Bit With Chumley A Conspiracy! Bush? SMU? (Heck, gotta' blame somebody)! Read and let this soak in with your morning cup of coffee: "Chumley played receiver before moving to quarterback in week nine. In his first game under center he passed for 505 yards, ran for 170 yards and scored seven touchdowns, earning Performer of the Week honors." Is Scout pulling a few legs with that or what? If correct, I think some of us will be quite blown away with those stats, right? (Can I say..............day'um)?!? GMG!
  14. ...inside my mail box and inside the post card with a message from #57 Mason Barbo saying: "The support of the Mean Green Nation at the Heart of Dallas Bowl game was amazing. As a captain of the football team, I look forward to seeing all of our Mean Green fans pack Apogee to create the best home crowd environment in Conference-USA! Reserve your 2014 season tickets by contacting the ticket office today! Go Mean Green ! (with signature) #57 Mason Y'Barbo __________________________________________ The 4 x 6 full color post card had our team lifting the HOD Bowl game trophy in the air with our huge Mean Green contingency of fans in the background. Gotta' give credit where credit is due > > > > >First class piece of marketing, UNT Athletics ! GMG!
  15. I agree with your assessment, BillySee58.
  16. Harry, so "X" marks the spot or should it be....we still have a spot for X (if he'd only say...yes)? (The Norm Hitzghes influence at work here). GMG!
  17. I admit to being naive about much, but how is this information on DW even available to us....the general public?
  18. Bush, too? On another front, check out what Western Michigan of the MAC is up to with their Scout class: 51. Western Michigan 26 MAC 1462 0 0 0 14 12 13 1 * click the above Western Michigan to get a list of their names if you have nothing else to do. Ranked #51 among all? Hasn't it been awhile since Western Michigan has been relevant in the MAC's football race? Billy58? The 14 in underlined bold represents 3 star commits by the way. GMG!
  19. Many of us are aware of your very significant contribution to the UNT athletic program, flyonthewall, and all we can say is a very big and sincere thank you. (And I know you were not soliciting that response, either, by any means). As you'd know, this forum is like a sports bar with so many different hot sports opinions by many of us at different levels of sobriety (coupled with our respective experiences with our school thru the decades).......... and every once in awhile some of those HSO's from many on this forum even make sense--just not sure how many of the other kind of cents they make. Again, thanks for all you have done and are doing. GMG!
  20. Love reading all the opinions....sorta' what makes the Mean Green Nation so darn diverse and interesting. I appreciate what Lane Rawlins did by simply being a friend and ally for the athletic program. He could have done the complete opposite and haven't most of us seen that picture show in the past? Thanks, President Emeritus Lane Rawlins! GMG! PS: Best part is Dr. Rawlins can (somewhat) guide our new President Smatresk along and save a lot of wasted "breaking in a new president" time as well. In many ways, Dr. Smatresk will be able to start his new job on the run and that is what our chief fund-raiser is going to really need to get the necessary Tier 1 Research University status monies raised. It will be a tall Texas-like challenge but he seems to have the skins on the wall as well as his having a pretty good track record of success in that very department from UNLV.
  21. Haven't buried them, just don't care for the school if you can read between the lines and that based on the way they've treated our school most years. For starters, they dropped us off their schedule in the 50's when we were the first school in the SW and South to integrate with Abner Haynes and Leon King. An old timer (now dead) once on the payroll up there told me that and I suppose I believed him, too. Then................(a repeat of this except to newbies now posting) but for over 30 years TCU would not schedule UNT starting with the Abner Haynes era all the way thru the Hayden Fry era. Doesn't take much imagination as to why. Just my .02 on the subject of TCU. GMG!
  22. My hometown would have been one of those good short segments on the old Hee Haw series when they say the name of some one horse town and the cast hollers....Salute! When I moved to Denton in January, 1972, I thought I had moved to a metropolis. (Denton's pop. at that time was 39,000).
  23. Yes! Best answer. These poor stores around the West O' Plex can't get rid of most their 'dated' TCU stuff starting with the Sams Club on Bryan Irvin Road in SW FW. Coach Gary "we want TCU to be DFW's team" (my arse) Patterson should have left town when he could have now that his school is in the Big 12 which for the Froggies seems to be shaping up to be the re-incarnation of the old Southwest Conference which was hardly Frog-Friendly their last quarter century in that now defunct league. Uh...just sayin' ? ? ? ? ?
  24. Let's talk about something much, much less controversial; you know, like, uh,.....global warming? OR.... if you're on the other side of the aisle that would be, uh (I stutter a lot)..............global cooling. I know, I'll die & go to the hot spot for saying that kind of stuff. GMG! PS: OK, greenminer, you are right...back to the subject at hand before this thread gets locked.
