  1. Who is knocking Mason Fine? Guess I'm not reading all the posts?? ? Mr. Fine is a keeper with much upside. He's the kind of QB you can build a program around. Last year about this time he was playing at the equivalent of a Texas 2A or 3A high school which to me makes his story even more remarkable. GMG!
  2. Yes! The volume level was way over the top last night! Did they get a new sound system? It sounded cleaner & the speakers didn't have that spiked out sound as before. I spent the 4'th quarter talking to Gray Eagle & we could not hear each other over Mr. "another Mean Green...1'st down" Crouch.
  3. They were mine but the upper left hinge broke off & I dumped them. I thought i put them in the trash container. Great balls of fire, Tony, & the ribs were great, too. GMG! PS: I gave my dvd copy of the 1990 SMU vs North Texas game (and Mean Green win) to the Beyond the Green producer who was at your tailgate. He told me he was going to digitize it & put it to good (future) use. Thanks for introducing us!?
  4. Revised Monday To Almost Manifesto Length: I've been a Mean Green fan since September of 1973 so I've lost count of all the QB "projects" we had of which several never really panned out by their senior year. (For proof of that count how many above .500 seasons we've had beginning with the Bob Tyler season of 1982). Mason Fine in his true freshmen year is not a project. He's the real deal which is more evident to a growing number of even our most critical but now we just need to focus on 3 or 4 JUCOS who can be elgible to enroll this Spring (I know--tall order). Also for our Coach Littrell & his staff to kick major tail in Texas/Oklahoma/Louisiana as far as recruiting high school seniors. Such recruiting that will catapult this football program to high places that only an Eagle would enjoy like in NCAA outposts many of our former Missouri Valley conference-mates have landed. ✳️?✳️ 2 of our ex conference-mates were in the Top 10 this last week so to quote the great Shaft--CAN YA' DIG IT?? GMG! PS: A pass rusher is on many of our Christmas wish lists.
  5. Manifesto Time! Mason is just Fine. He is relentless with the way he just keeps on coming back. ➡️ We don't have to spend the next 3 years "slowly" developing a QB project & hope it works out. ✳️ WE HAVE A QB, FOLKS, DON'T KNOCK IT--ENJOY IT! A few good breaks tonight, better officiating & that game is a toss up. Some pick MUTS to win it all, folks. Their team speed on both sides of the ball ate us up. One perspective mentioned previously: My Junior year (1975) we thought we had a winner. It was future College Football Hall of Famer Hayden Fry's 3'rd year at North Texas & things were really looking up. Our season opener was against the Oklahoma State Cowboys & they slobber-knocked us 60 something to 7. It was a demoralizing loss, yet did that team mail it in after that massacre? No, later that season they'd beat Bill Yeoman's U of Houston Cougars 28-0 & then beat a 6 & 5 Tennessee Volunteers team 14-7--arguably still our biggest all time win since the SEC UT Vols would have been a bowl team if there'd been as many bowls as present day; of course, so would the Mean Green have been in a 1975 bowl, too. Fry said he'd stayed at North Texas had his better teams been rewarded with bowl invites--we just had Fry 20 years too early at UNT with all the bowls we have now. ✳️Note: North Texas' win over the Vols cost HFC Bill Battle his job, but he turned his lemons into lemonade when he became an entrepreneur & started College Licensing whose label can be seen on all NCAA sportswear. Maybe he should have thanked us? LOL! GMG! Part 2: Just need to recruit like there's no tomorrow. Why not--everyone else does. It makes me ill that our previous staff didn't recruit better classes having the best damn stadium in Conference-USA to recruit toward & the fact that UNT by many would be considered an easy sell. Fry could sell a comb to a bald-headed man or a refrigerator to an Eskimo. He lifted our school out of the "teachers college" designation more than anyone prior at the chagrin of some of the older Denton nestors who wanted to keep it business as usual or...DON'T ROCK OUR SWEET SITUATION WITH "OUR" 2 UNIVERSITIES & COZY LITTLE DEAL WE HAVE UP HERE. (Well, Fry sorta' did). The word for the McCarney staff is ......SQUANDERED.
  6. Food fight? ?????? What kind of fight did some of us miss already?
  7. We should consider taking the attitude to just enjoy each Small Step. One game (W or L) is not going to diffuse the long term term goal our entire UNT athletic management team have set for our football & entire athletic program. Most fans & alums feel as good about that aspect as they do watching the further development of this young football team. "IF"... we're part of a perfect storm & pull off a major upset tomorrow night someone please tell the stadium attendants they can expect fans, alums & students to not want to leave our victorious, sacred battleground 15 minutes after the final gun so they can lock the gates & go home. Post B-C game (& win) you'd thought there was a bomb scare the attendants were so busy trying to hustle a few of us stragglers out of the stadium. So...shall we just enjoy those small steps now because it doesn't take a palm reader to see much bigger steps are on the way. Just sayin'... GMG!
  8. Apogee's debut game vs UH there was absolutely no excuse for that one to have not been a sellout. You basically had 9 months to focus on ticket sales for that one game to make sure it would sellout. In a lifetime you don't have many stadium grand openings to purchase tickets for. Oh well...it's a brand new era. GMG! PS: Roads in & out Apogee & the Mean Green Village until rectified it really is going to be a booger when we do have sell outs. Bonnie Brae's condition is not worthy of the stadium that its adjacent to.
  9. Cougar King, as you may or may not know, I was a big Coog fan as a youth growing up down there in Brazoria County. That 20-20 tie vs UT in 1968 is what clinched it for DKR to lead the way for UH's SWC membership which made us all estatic, but...you know our situation at UNT & we don't pretend to compare ours to UH's so why the continual sarcasm & digs toward our athletic program?
  10. I'll go on record & say I just love that amazing Apogee Stadium which former Dallas Cowboy Super Scout; that is, the one who introduced the computer to the NFL draft, i.e. , Gil Brandt called...... "the Taj Mahal of NCAA football stadiums (& I've seen them all)."
  11. We're all so hungry for good things to start happening for our school's football program again that we may be ahead of ourselves with expectations, but this particular journey has some uniqueness to it we may have not seen for awhile. STILL, I WANT US TO WIN THE DAMN GAME--JUST LIKE ALL OF YALL! GMG! PS: Key to winning this game is for our offense to catch fire & score a bunch of points anyway it can. Our defense just might not be ready for prime time--hope they prove me wrong.
  12. Winning cures cancer, that can especially be so at an urban university approaching 40,000 students with about 250,000 North Texas Exes in the northern part of the Lone Star State. We (still) do have so many advantages others don't. We are hardly some backwater school where wildlife outnumbers our people population. Just win annually & lets see all the pieces to our puzzle fall in place. Winning has been missing for so long in Denton. We sometimes remind me of the programs that Hayden Fry & Bill Snyder took over of which both Iowa & Kansas State had decades of losing seasons that made North Texas all but look like perennial winners. Just like many of you, I'm feeling good about our future with our new staff--both administrative & coaching. We can't undo the past but we all can affect the future. GMG!
  13. Thanks for that, TrueBlue!? We native Texans who had family here pre-Republic of Texas have a special place in our hearts for Tennesseans, now (of course) that doesn't make us want to sit down, hold hands & sing kum bah yah with y'all this Saturday.?? GMG!
  14. And y'all all thought we were in Mean Green heaven (or the other place).✳️ Welcome back home, JayDub.? At some point in life we all eventually want to get back home. "There's no place like home." (Dorothy, Wizard of Oz) GMG!
  15. I loved the MUTS away game when Booger Kennedy turned a sommertsault over the B-R's QB & came up with the ball. Never saw anything like that ever. Wish I could find it on video. GMG!
  16. Hope it's this one because I have a Wedding to DJ when we play Marshall.
  17. I think one day UT & OU leave the Big 12 for similar reasons Arkansas left the old SWC & TAMU the Big 12.
  18. 32 - 28, North Texas
  19. 26,302 302 or 3W-2L GMG!
  20. The UNT System is one campus too many for a non-Permanent University Fund system IMO. The Dallas law school, Fort Worth med school & Denton's main campus would have been easier to focus & to strengthen. UNT-Dallas should have never happened because of UTA's proximity. Are we spreading ourselves too thin & at what expense to the other campuses? Just a layman's .02. ????
  21. Well, uh, (clear throat) your welcome.?? ☮
  22. Misery loves company? ?
  23. It was Coach Billy Tohill, Judge Joe. In fact I know exactly where he had his accident being a former FW resident. Seems he lost part of his foot, too, &.....I don't think they ever found it!? (I know, I could go to the hot spot for saying that).? He was out at that time of morning when very few good things ever happen & that's all I'm going to say about that, too. GMG! PS: Kent Waltdrop was from my home county SW of Houston--Brazoria County & I think he played for the Alvin HS Yellowjackets if my memory serves me correct. ✳️By all means...BEAT MIDDLE!✳️
  24. We know we're in Small Steps mode, but nothing says we can't have an upset now & then. ➡️ Just think, if the football gods smiled down upon us at amazing Apogee Stadium this Saturday & we won---we'd only be "3" more wins from being bowl eligible & most bowl officials know by now how well our fans travel even out of the state of Texas. I'm still totally impressed by the almost 37,000 Mean Green fans we had at the HOD BOwl game on 1/1/2014. (Now if we'd only had that Big 10 opponent)? ??? GMG!
  25. Always need linemen...the toughest for most G5 programs to recruit. Was impressed with blocking vs Rice especially from a particular RB. GMG!
