  1. If we have all these statues on our campus will we then be called "Chess Board U?" (Dad joke, there, even if a poor one at that). GMG! BEAT UTSA!
  2. Roy sang the music of many of we Baby Boomer's formative years. He passed not so long after he recorded "You Got It." The Beatles loved Orbison & I think he even toured with them at one point. Music can take you back to long ago memory moments for sure, but I remember hearing Roy's "Only the Lonely" from a transistor radio before one of my Little League baseball practices. Roy once said in an article that he started experimenting with his "out of this orbit" high octave falsetto singing range while at North Texas. Late UNT Fessor' Floyd Graham spoke highly of both Pat Boone & Roy, but between the 2 Orbison would be my choice for a statue on our campus. GMG!
  3. Not really advocating a Pat Boone statue at all since he graduated from Columbia U, but a WikiPedia piece on Charles Eugene "Pat" Boone has some pretty interesting things on what Billboard says about Boone's record sales, his ABC-TV Chevy Show, his book sales & the fact that Elvis once opened for Pat at a 1955 show in Cleveland, Ohio. I play a Roy Orbison song or 2 at almost every event I DJ & make a point to tell many SWC/Big 12 school alums which college in Denton, Texas, he attended. Did an Aggie wedding last Saturday night & shared a vignette about Roy. Do the same when I play Eli Young Band & how they all met at Clark Hall dorm on campus. Orbison had a son who used to live here in Weatherford according to a friend who owns Craig's Music & is also mayor of Wea'ford. IDJ: soundworksdeejay.com
  4. "Go ye therefore my son & sin no more." J.C. (And bet against UTSA)!? ?
  5. OK great MG fan golfingomez...George Dunham is also a great North Texas alum. He (like you & me) bleeds green. He has been passionate about North Texas & was maybe the only one on KTCK 1310 The Ticket who would for years stand up for the Mean Green. George was superb as the Voice of the Mean Green & I know all the Bill Mercer stories about all this but seems to me George & Bill have buried the hatchet? Shouldn't we all aim to do that kind thing eventually? To carry on a grudge for a lifetime is a waste of time & mental energy. I've heard a few play by play guys here in the Southwest beginning with Astros/UH Coogs broadcaster Gene Elston in the 1960's & George Dunham was easily comparable. If he'd been broadcasting with a winning program he probably would have won some broadcasting awards & I'm serious as a heart attack about that. I know some don't like George for touting Hank D. as AD, but it was his right to do so. Say what you wanna' say about Hank Dickenson, too, but I find him to be a good color man on the MGRN & yes, some of us have had a few differences with him thru the years, but so what-- I have differences with some of my kinfolk, too. GMG!
  6. North Texas Mean Green........35 UTSA Beep! Beeps!................28 UTSA seems to play at the level of their competition until they play North Texas. I guess our having some semblance of a 100 plus year football history & an on-campus presence with our Mean Green Village might get stuck in their craws for whatever reason. In all fairness, in the past we have flaunted that difference. They like their role of "new kid on the block" kicks "old kid on the block." I admire that their city has so quickly gotten behind their program, but they don't exactly schedule the "sisters of the poor" for those home games, either, like we've seen in prior seasons. Honestly, I would have traded their home OOC past schedules versus ours in a New York Minute. A school tends to recruit toward such a schedule and their stadium venue. Yet.....you beat a few of those kind of football programs at home said school begins to move toward Top 25 considerations. They've really come a long ways in so short of time. Until Wren gets a'hold of our future home OOC schedule, we still have had better name schools to play us at Fouts Field, but lets see what happens in future schedules at Apogee. A dream Apogee schedule with name schools would be versus those who could bring a few thousand fans, but I don't know if that is always going to be possible so then we talk about schools up North who'll only bring a storied past but few travelling fans. It is what it is at the end of the day. :) GMG!
  7. SMU continues to be a fly in the ointment with North Texas. We make a step forward--they make 2 steps forward. If North Texas had had a Wren type of a "put up & no BS" kind of AD back post-SMU Death Penalty we could have moved past SMU in a big way when they took their 2 year sabbatical from NCAA football but.....we did not but rather continued our walk in the wilderness in most unique ways that few of our past Missouri Valley conference-mates ever did. But to put that past in the lyrics of an "oldie but goody" hit from the British duo of Chad & Jeremy "...but that was yesterday and yesterdays gone." (Now all you Baby Boomers fixate that old melody in your minds & enjoy it for the rest of the day)!
  8. And a Tennessee that would have been bowl eligible had there been as many bowls as today. North Texas vs. Army? It was a huge win since it was nationally broadcasted on CBSS. I have no idea how to predict the rest of our games, so to put it in a Sinatra hit song title & blast from the past I have....... HIGH HOPES! Beat the Beep! Beeps!
  9. Late & former Texas governor Bill Clements is an SMU letterman & student, but I was surprised to read years ago that he never did finish his degree at Shmooo. My guess is that he was making very much in gas & oil to ever go back & get his degree.
  10. Vada vada bing!?
  11. Thanks for the heads-up!
  12. Well Tony, when you start please give us all fair warning so we can get out of the way & give you all the room you need.? ?We digress...moving on to next subject.
  13. Coma? Bad balls??
  14. LaTech will bring a loud crowd, too (probably half of whom live in DFW). It will be a fun Game Day & be what college football is all about. GMG! PS: Can you believe all this is happening after last years diasaster?
  15. Take the balance of our schedule, uh, "one game at a time?" Of course, when has anyone heard of a team taking them "2 games at at time?" I think we will need 7 wins to get a bowl game. Others on GMG.com have expressed same. So.....let's take em' one game at a time until we hit 7 & then lets celebrate in this most surprising season the 4 plus decades I've watched & followed Mean Green football. Pinch me & let me see if I'm dreaming. GMG!
  16. ..."going forward" and....."at the end of the day?" That phrase is viral even on all the networks. "It is what it is" runs a close 2'nd! LOL! GMG!
  17. Never forget to......REMEMBER THE ALAMO!
  18. He was a former student of TAMU of which I always have the Texas Aggie War Hymn in my college fight songs music file & I did play it last night. Thru the years I have played the North Texas Fight Song at numerous weddings of UNT-graduated Brides & Grooms, though, and they all get to now where my degree comes from! LOL!
  19. I had a class with the North Texas iconic 'Fessor Floyd Graham his last semester to teach. (He had been at UNT since 1928). ANYHOOOO...... I had just transferred from Alvin JUCO mostly because my (then) girlfriend attended TWU. I really didn't know much about North Texas as I grew up in the SWC-dominated Houston area, but Fessor' Graham got my undivided attention one morning when he told our class: "Let me tell you young whipper'snappers the time I put Roy Orbison AND Pat Boone in a male quartet up here." I just about fell out of my chair! I thought to myself: "Pat Boone & Roy Orbison: Only 2 pioneers of Rock & Roll, that's all! " Many on this forum will hate Boone's politics, but hope we can be big people & not demonize him for that in statue talk. Pat Boone once had a restaurant in Denton on University Drive where Western National Bank (or whatever name it is now) is located. He did invest in the Denton community when so many of our rich & famous did not.
  20. Joe, I am so jealous! And here I am fixin' to DJ a 5 hour wedding reception in mere minutes. GMG!
  21. Phil, I'm putting in a call to your Sicilian cuzzin' Guido to sit down & have a nice long talk.
  22. Why does this eternal "oh God we're going to lose our coach now" even come up? So much more to concern ourselves about than this tired theme before a coach even has his 1'st winning season. Boise State lost about 6 HFC's in a space of about 15 years but still stayed in the Top 25 most of the time after each coach left.
  23. Also, please spare us all the......"we can't keep our coach now"....... posts. Free advice: Enjoy the moment & forget all the things we have no control. GMG!
  24. ❓ I'm sure I'd be in the minority, but what would a green SOW outlined in black look like on a metallic silver helmet? Many accept silver as a neutral color so we'd not be fooling around with our official school colors.
