  1. If invited to the Fort Worth Armed Services Bowl might we match our HOD Bowl North Texas fan support of around 36,000 fans? That kind of crowd producing noise in a very acoustic Amon Carter Stadium might be worth at least one TD. GMG!
  2. UTEP players might want to win one for the Gipper (so to speak). Not sure how well respected the Miners HFC is with his players. 6 wins makes us bowl eligible, but can anyone believe we'd be saying such words during August 2-a-days?
  3. The thing you most always noticed about Darrell Royal's QB's at UT is they were not flashy but rather game management QB's. Remember when UT had a QB shortage & so Alan Lowery was moved from DB to QB & how that seemed to work out? Can't ever remember when DKR's UT ever recruited the prototypical QB that would ever go to the NFL. I'm sure being at UT he could have recruited who he wanted but that seemed to not be the Royal M.O. * The last QB North Texas recruited that ever played in the NFL was Steve Ramsey of the Mean Joe era so, no, we haven't exactly been QB U. in Denton. Get the right combo of an OL along with receivers who can separate from DB's as well as with a DKR'esque kind of college QB who can manage a game & you can win a helluva' bunch of games. UT sure did without even one Royal-coached Texas Longhorn QB that ever played or started in the NFL.
  4. For a true freshman with not exactly the kind of supporting cast Derek Thompson had on January 1, 2014 at the HOD Bowl I think the kid has done ok. Based on last week, you have to start Morris & if he ain't getting the job done we do have a kid who was instrumental (before nagging injuries) in helping this team win a few. Wish we could ask some of Mason Fine's teammates what their .02 would be on the subject. ➡️Watch them celebrate with Mason Fine on some of the videos after some of those wins he managed well for a frosh' & for one who was basically thrown to the wolves this season. (Yes in deed, that's all part of the game, too). BEAT UTEP!
  5. A school with one winning season the last umpteen years should concern itself with more pressing matters that are in our control. Losing coaches on our payroll to higher profile schools is not one of them. Marketing & ticket sales are. GMG!
  6. Agree! Never dreamed we'd have 5 wins this season based on last year, but we do have an upwardly bound young coaching staff who cannot afford to allow UNT to be their last stop. It's a win-win for all. BEAT THE UTEP MINERS! GO BOWLING!
  7. I have never thought North Texas would be a tough sell if you just had the right coaches doing the selling. I'd wager there are a few CUSA coaches who would salivate with all the selling points we have in Denton. Listening to SL talk to his players on BTG & almost sounding like a psychologist has me thinking we finally have the right salesman & communicator in place. For some of us the timing of all this couldn't be any better.??
  8. WTH Is your obsession with QB's? Change it to linemen who can block for a QB. You & a couple others on this forum trash the one we have for whatever reason who the hell knows. You have an agenda with someone else (a QB) you want SL to recruit or a relative on the team now? Good grief, dude.
  9. Fine's marching the team the full length of the football field for a TD in the opening drive against one of CUSA's better teams sure did impress the Middle Tennessee fans I sat next to. One drive does not a QB make, but he sure as hell impressed some fans from Tennesssee that evening at Apogee. Give the kid the kind of offensive lines that some of our past (successful) QB's I've seen since Hayden Fry's 1'st game at UNT & I think this discussion shifts to other positions that we're truly deficient.
  10. Poor offensive line play has a true freshman QB look like one who might lead the NCAA in being sacked the most. Any of you Fine critics ever played the damn game? Being around this football program going on half a century might make you appreciate Mason Fine more than I'm seeing with some on this forum. I'm surprised he still has both his legs intact to be honest GMG!
  11. We've not been ranked as a NCAA D1 program since the 70's. We were ranked at the 1-AA level when we even beat some SWC schools We do have some catching up to do. GMG!
  12. Too much being put on a true freshman whose supporting cast at this time is 2'nd division CUSA talent. If 5 or 6 wins happen this season it will be because of Mason Fine. Some on this forum last August said 2 maybe 3 wins maximum this season as I recall. GMG!
  13. This team is playing the best team in CUSA with arguably the best defense since the Florida Gators game. We desperately need a banner recruiting year. The whole North Texas recruiting package (facilities, location, academics) is hardly chopped liver. Someone will be able to sell all that at some point--hope its SL. GMG!

  15. Many of us, wardly, are running out of time. Health concerns can be problems for some of us at our age. (Type 2 diabetes kept me home last Saturday). Yet, I don't get it (& never have) why we seem to stay at the same base of fans. The below numbers suggests we should sell out Apogee Stadium every game. U of North Texas & Some Demographics: City of Denton: Approximately 115,000 Denton County: 780,612 (as of 2015) UNT Fall Enrollment: Approx. 38,000 DFW UNT Alums: 230,000 plus North Texas Exes according to campus figures We all hope Wren can come up with a solution to this problem. Of course, having a few winning seasons in a row & an occasional OOC Top 50 P-5 "name school" opponent could do wonders. GMG!
  16. A Hearty Amen, GMG24! Like many of you, we've seen many non-Mason Fine types (or projects) the last 4 to 5 decades who helped us have not too many winning seasons during that span of time. Mason Fine is a breath of fresh air as a true freshman. We probably wouldn't have 4 wins without him truth be told. Yes, he has some tweaking to do, but (after all) he is a true freshman. GMG!
  17. Win some--lose some. Seems it's that way for all NCAA D1 programs. ❓Anyone know if we remain interested in the JUCO players who were not elgible to play at UNT? Do they remain interested in continuing at North Texas?

  19. I would love for us to be rivals as part of a new MWC-East division with Rice, UTEP & La Tech. CUSA-East travel-wise may be further out than many schools in the MWC & how many D-1 football start-up (or unknowns) in the CUSA-East/SBC footprint are there the last 10 years? They are national perception killers to the rest of us where football is king. Perception is much better as a MWC member than CUSA (or SBC 2.0) will ever have & with more schools in a new MWC-East division better kick-off times for better media time zone coverage than TCU ever had I'd wager could be negotiated.
  20. ✳️ North Texas...28 ??La Tech..........27 GMG
  21. UTEP & USM are possible wins if the development of our young players continues & why shouldn't it? LaTech? With a large, raucous & loud home crowd & if our offense is running on all cylinders then never say never. ➡️ (Don't forget just how close the MUTS game really was with a team still in early season development mode). ? Our UTSA Loss? Told a fellow alum couple weeks ago that a team like ours (in a rebuilding mode) with a true freshman QB is due to have a bad game & not be good enough (yet) to overcome it. To me that was the BEEP!? ? ?BEEP! game. ✳️GMG!✳️
  22. Good estimate, Tony.?✳️?
  23. Not sure we'd even have 4 wins without the true freshman Mason Fine. The W/L this season could have very well equalled last year's but now it won't. I think Seth Littrell might even agree. We've had a taste of winning no matter our opponents thus far & it has felt good, but TIgreen01 you are right because--this "IS" what a rebuilding year looks like. Look forward to seeing SL have a full recruiting year because me'thinks he & staff are going to be good at it.
  24. Maybe you need to go to the coaches & share your suggestions in person. You ever have a bad day at the office? GMG!
  25. We won 1 game last year with a coach who was mostly building up his 401-k retirement coffers, yet this team & its coaches have given us all something to build on unlike most other post-disaster coaches hires I've seen the last 40 plus years. We were due to have a wheels-off game & we saw it in the Garbage-Dome yesterday. "Tomorrow is a new day." (Scarlett O'Hara)
