  1. I met with the Head Trainer for the TCU Horned Frogs this evening & he claims that UT even with their APR will not go to a bowl game if offered. What am I doing froggin' around with the TCU HT & his fiancé tonight? Well, I booked to DJ their wedding for 5/28/17 in Aledo & will probably get to meet Mr. & Mrs. Gary Patterson at that wedding. Real nice folks I hear.
  2. Wasn't McNulty's number "19"? If not...senior moment??
  3. You are a great alum & fan, meanrob! ✳️?✳️ I thought I saw FFR delivering my rural mailbox mail the other day!
  4. Totally agree with your positive assessment of true freshman Mason Fine. I admittedly have a soft spot for kids who come from smaller high schools like the one I attended SW of Houston. GMG! PS: Lest some forgot....#19 did score the first ever TD at Apogee Stadium's debut game against the mighty Houston Cougars! Thanks a million for that memory! GMG!
  5. I hear you but maybe this one a winnable game? GMG!
  6. IF ARMY AT THE HOD: West Point (with I'd bet HOD & A.D. Wren Baker's assistance) would make contacts with Army installations across Texas for fan support along with what Cadets would come from NY. (As I understand it, their officials along with ours did this in the 90's when we hosted Army at Texas Stadium with good results for a regular season game). Personally, I'd have a chance to see a fellow Danbury (TX) HS alum who played for our Danbury Panthers football team & then for Army who he & family will I'm sure come to Dallas for a bowl event. Army would have the revenge factor working for them at the HOD Bowl. The Mean Green would like to show em' our first win was real & not a fluke. God I love this thing called college football! GMG!
  7. You be preaching to the choir, southsideguy. Fact is, North Texas wouldn't be coming to the MWC hat in hand. We would bring the (soon to be) #4 ranked TV market in the USA to the table. We've not been chopped liver the whole time, either, because since 2000 & counting our bowl this Fall (fingers crossed) we will have gone to 6 bowl games. How many present CUSA schools have done that since 2000? The other 3 Texas schools in CUSA coming with us would be essential or this might not be the best scenario. Although....TCU saw an advantage in removing themselves from the rest of the old SWC group by joining the MWC at one point plus.......TCU HAD BIGGER PLANS DOWN THE ROAD BECAUSE......... THEY HAD A VISIONARY ADMINISTRATION THAT DARED TO LOOK DOWN THE ROAD (and rather large endowment coffers to work with, too). Yet at the time when TCU was in the MWC, a big problem was they had no state-wide traveling partners as the CUSA Tex-4 would have in a new MWC-East Division including La Tech if they decided this would not be too far west for them. (Something tells me it would not be at all). GMG!
  8. And hopefully UNVL who calls Sam Boyd Stadium home will one day be a future Mountain West Conference-mate. I know....overkill with the MWC subject.... ....but being in that league puts North Texas on a level (or even above) the conference that SMU and Houston are both members. When is that not something North Texas fans and alums wouldn't want? More conference re-alignment will happen--not a question of if....but when. Been saying for 2-3 years now that OU & UT will eventually vault the Big 12 no matter what you read now. If President Smatresk & the very affable Wren Baker are not already putting out feelers to the MWC about the CUSA Tex-4 joining them....they should be. (Also, La Tech if they'd be interested). Just my .02 on the subject. GMG!
  9. Again, UH is not going to hire Seth Littrell & put that in 3 inch headlines. SL has to have winning "seasons" & has to kick butt on the recruiting trail because if you can't do that at North Texas, then you will join a group of former Mean Green head football coaches who left Denton under .500 in wins/losses. I think Coach Littrell is going to be successful at North Texas. If we can upgrade our schedule, recruit to that schedule (recruit to Apogee & the Mean Green Village, too) plus........... maybe upgrade to another league other than SBC 2.0 (C-USA Today) we could actually get this ship on a proper course befitting a school that will have 45,000 students at our main campus; our school located in a Denton County which will have a population of 1,000,000 sooner than later and with a northern Texas UNT alumnus base that will project close to 300,000 North Texas Exes but....we have to improve our conference neighborhood & IMHO the MWC would fill that need. No, it's not the Big 12 or a P5 league but the MWC would better prepare us for that kind of future than the league we're in now; that is, our present conference filled with schools that were not even in NCAA Division 1 a half generation ago. Wren Baker has to fill Apogee with such schools as the aforementioned with our home conference schedule & those schools few of us knew existed when we were UNT students, but Air Force, Boise State, San Diego State & the like would make that a much easier feat coupled with winning season after season after season. GMG!
  10. Possibly so, Harry, but we do have a fairly good reputation as a school with a decent bowl traveling fan base if they keep us in the Southwest. If no offer, for sure disappointment, but most on this forum are pleased that we did go from 1 win to 5. ____________ (Subliminally, get all the names of those doing the bowl pick in').?
  11. I thought we were a 4 year/1 university, too? Good gosh, if UTA is & we're not?!?! ?
  12. Except for a couple of California MWC schools the other MWC outposts & CUSA east schools are almost equidistant from DFW AIrport & Denton. Check it out for proof. Ticket Sales? Who do you like for conference games at Apogee (& I'd bet most of us could guess who Wren Baker would have an easier time selling tickets) so would it be: (1) ODU, FIU, FAU, Charlotte, WKU, etc, or... (2) Air Force, San Diego St., Boise St, New Mexico, etc. ? Still, only way MWC would work are for the 4 Texas CUSA schools (& La Tech if they were interested) forming most of a MWC East Division. • The MWC seems to be making noises about expanding again. The MWC is way ahead of CUSA (or rather what has turned into SBC 2.0) in perception & reality by a long, long shot & the aforementioned group of CUSA schools should strike if the expansion irons get hot again or get left at the train station (again).
  13. I could (and would) make 2 of those games. Only live 30 minutes from the Armed Services Bowl aka Amon Carter Stadium. God almighty! Can you believe after last year that we are even talking about 'ANY' bowl game? Is this heaven? Yes I know......it's Iowa! GMG!
  14. La Tech: The Little Red (and Blue) Engine That Could. (No disrespect to one of my best friends whose dad attended La Tech). I do admire that they don't sit around talking about potential, though. I wish our new football coaches would steal their annual recruiting list and go to town with it! Give me some Red, babe'ee, give me some Red (especially you, HogDawg)!
  15. Agree with Armed Forces over HOD (for this year). Wouldn't bother me if in the future with ranked North Texas football teams that the HOD Bowl became what the old Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl game became with the Houston Cougars during the Bill Yeoman era as in....almost an annual event? GMG!!
  16. Interesting... Whoever we play our "D" still needs to get some turnovers on "the other teams side of the 50 yard line." A Sun Belt no name school like South Alabama (at least "no-name" to most of us in Texas) might be more winnable but would not sell tickets. I wish we were 3 years in on Seth Littrell's career at UNT. I think he and staff are going to recruit some players to help our players now who will be juniors and seniors in 3 years. Our UNT coaches are all young & will not want UNT to be their last stop, but that's alright because that scenario is a win-win we haven't had for many of our adult lives following this program.
  17. Still, what is our research university tier status using the state of Texas or (is it THECB) criteria? What killed us on that tier-granting status program previously was our school's total endowment coffers were very deficient.
  18. The day will come when North Texas due to the lofty & upwardly bound aspirations of UNT Prez Smatresk as stated in the signature below will have to pony up for $1.5 to $2 million (minimum) for our present HFC & others to come to keep good coaches from jumping ship. That another reason we may one day have to study to see if a move to the more prestigious MWC would be in our best interest (and if they had an opening, too, would help). Apogee gate receipts would improve playing a Boise State, San Diego State, Air Force, etc versus an FAU, Charleston, WKU, etc If You're Standing Still In Future NCAA Conference Re-Alignment Plans Then You're Actually Going Backwards; Of course, such a move to the MWC would almost have to include most all CUSA West Division schools & I'd add what is & will only continue to be a burgeoning rivalry with La Tech. The tide would rise for all the aforementioned CUSA schools if this move were made which would (basically) create a new West Division (Central Time Zone) group of schools for the Mountain West Conference. I would think the MWC having 2 new USA Top 10 TV markets in their league would be invaluable to them since it would enhance their standing among sports TV gurus. It might also be within the realm of possibilities that some present bowls would switch their allegiance to this new Mountain West Conference, too. Just look who Wren Baker would be scheduling for Apogee conference home games from the present MWC as compared to CUSA schools, especially from CUSA East of which most from that group were not even in NCAA Division 1 a generation ago?
  19. I hated sitting in that track & field stadium since my first game as a UNT student which happened to be Fry's first season in Denton, September, 1973. To me it was an un-polishable turd almost from its Day 1 debut in 1951 (or was it 1952)? Jeez, folks, there was almost a distance of 45 yards from the 50 yard line seats to the football field! Sight lines were terrible all around. (Sorry, old timers, who might somehow have an emotional attachment to it). A bowl for this year? Let's have an above .500 team before we go back to the HOD & its 95,000 seat Cotton Bowl Stadium. Back when that stadium seated 72,000 North Texas fans would have filled almost half of the stadium for the HOD Bowl in 2014. Fort Worth's Armed Services Bowl (at TCU's Amon Carter Stadium) actually seats close to 47,000 seats & would look better on TV crowd-wise if we get to stay in DFW for our bowl game. We have another scholarship depleted football program because of the prior staff's recruiting M.O. so whoever we play at whatever bowl will I'm sure be more than formidable for our team so what the hell: BRING ON THE NAVAL ACADEMY MIDDIES! ✳️ Also if we play locally, bring as many DFW area recruits to the game as allowed, let them look at our present 2 deep so they can see how some of them can start their true freshmen year. ✳️ A bowl game will enhance this February's recruiting class no matter how you slice it & maybe even allow us to get a quality JUCO or 2 who can enroll this December.
  20. North Texas versus Navy play action & some nice Fouts Field crowd shots. Song: "Read My Mind" by the Killers.
  21. Below is Stewart Mandel's projection that puts North Texas in the city that Amon Carter said was a helluva' lot more fun than Big D. Of course, when Amon Carter said move TCU always jumped and then named their football stadium after him. (AND......not sure whose on the Armed Forces Bowl selection committee but I'm sure the Voice of the Horned Frogs who is on WBAP 820 AM every morning and was "the Voice of the HOD Bowl" radio coverage on 1/1/2014 may have (who knows) put in a good word for our local DFW Mean Green fan support)? http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaafb/stewart-mandels-college-football-bowl-projections-for-all-40-games/ss-AAkUG0X?ocid=spartandhp#image=18 Armed Forces Bowl: North Texas vs. Navy Date: Dec. 23 — Fort Worth, Texas
  22. ❓❓❓❓❓ When can our team officially start practicing & which bowl game gives us the most practice days (and the least practice days)?
