FWIW, Apogee Stadium happened under RV's watch so just leave it at that. I never thought even that would happen in my lifetime. Now we just need to put multi-year winning teams & all the fans we saw today at the HOD Bowl into Apogee & then we can start planning what would be a needed expansion. There were other good & not so good things that happened during his tenure. I told him to his face few years ago at a tailgate that based on my almost 5 decades As an alum/fan that he had the toughest AD job at our NCAA level because we alums & fans are just so damn hard to please. He was at the game today because he loves North Texas. Shouldn't we let him do that? We have few former UNT athletic officials or coaches who we ever see or ever show similar feelings & some of you older Nestor's can vouch for that.

If You Don't Shake Hands With At Least...

Not wanting to get too ridiculously warm & fuzzy, but hope our fans will even give the Army football team polite applause when they enter the Cotton Bowl & then... ...when the game begins pull out all the stops of showing them which team is--✳️OUR TEAM!✳️ -
100 Cadets, soldiers from Fort Hood & 1'st Responders of DFW then you must be a _____________? Jeff Foxworthy Seriously, they are our front line of defense & protection from many terrible things that could happen to any of us or our families & friends. GMG!

Hey untjim1995, come again? ? Seriously, I think you are probably close to being right. THIS: It won't happen because no one will be visionary enough to see your scenario which begs a certain consortium to strike first but if...the CUSA Tex-4 & LaTech would be proactive & sit on the doorsteps of the MWC commish & suggest to him that we'd like to (only as a group) bring them 2 top 10 TV markets with schools that would make up most of their East Division. The only school in the MWC that would be even close to resembling a start up program is Boise St. who (as I understand it) was a trade school in its beginnings. OR.. CUSA West with La Tech & USM could find a way to remove itself from the (almost) a 1,000 miles away majority of the CUSA East, but then you have all the problems of a new start up conference. PUNT ON 2'ND DOWN I GUESS!?

MGB: UNT picks up commitment from Manase Mose
PlummMeanGreen replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
The P5 cookie cutter requirement so prevalent on this forum from a handful. They want P5 recruiting classes but want to be in a conference half of whom are start-up programs or programs that just elevated to NCAA D1 in the last 10 or 15 years. Jeez, all this enough to make the Pope cuss on Easter Sunday! No, Mason Fine is not the prototypical future NFL QB, ie, 6'4" 210, but Darrell K. Royal of the University of Texas never won not even one N.C. with a QB who was ever drafted. His QB's were always around 5'11 or 6 foot but very athletic. DKR didn't have 1 UT quarterback drafted in any round of the NFL; with the exception of Super Bill Bradley by the Philly' Iggles' who wanted him as a safety. Super Bill from Palestine HS had lost his UT QB job early on in his UT career. I actually saw him play a little QB in a Bluebonnet Bowl game in Rice Stadium against the Ole Miss Rebels. UT RB Chris Gilbert of Houston Spring Branch HS had a very big day in that bowl win for the Longhorns. (Our next door neighbor worked for Humble Refinery & just happened to have 3 tickets which he, my late father and myself found to be useful). Still, UT won 11 SWC championships in a row with QB's who could mostly engineer a game--were not too flashy, not world beaters as passers but enough to win conference championships with a good supporting cast of linemen who kept Royal's QB's from losing a limb or 2. GMG! -
Oh well, my small group will be there. I hope there are a bunch of fans wearing green sitting near us. One is my former roommate & his son who graduated from Texas Tech who insisted on coming to this game with us. The fact that not much hoopla or fanfare has been made of ticket sales out of the North Texas athletic dept or the DRC might be a large clue of some of our being a tad over-optimismistic, but I hope next time we come back to this bowl it will be with at least 9 wins along with a Top 25 ranking & a Big 10 opponent. https://www.ticketcity.com/dallas-tickets/heart-of-dallas-bowl-army-black-knights-vs-north-texas-mean-green-dec-27-2016-1459359.html No one seems to be counting the fans that the HOD Bowl people (and Emmitt) have worked especially hard in getting 1'st Responders all over the DFW Metroplex involved with this bowl game. I'm going to guess they all have kids they will bring to this game, too. ? ? ? ? My Question Is........ why do several ticket outlets keep showing only 2 sections ie, 32 and 35 in the lower bowl as the only sections available for the purchase of tickets? If we have good day of game walk up ticket sales we will have a good crowd. As many of you know anytime North Texas has ever had a great crowd depended on the day of game walk up customers. We know we are not an "advance purchase" fan base & especially for a 94,000 seat Cotton Bowl stadium.

MGB: UNT picks up commitment from Manase Mose
PlummMeanGreen replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
me'thinks they are going to be radically wrong when the final tally of recruits are made on or after LOI Day I think they flip some key recruits that "fit our system" at the HOD Bowl game tomorrow. I feel good about this coaching staff unlike others I've seen in awhile. We seem to have it going on from Smatresk, the Wren and Coach Seth L! It's a good feeling. Now if we can just shuck CUSA and get in the Big 12. I think I finally know what it is with me. I love CUSA West & about 2 schools in CUSA East, but I have a hard time with all the damn start-ups & recent D1 elevations (except UTSA, of course). One of those recently played before about (maybe) 1,000 fans in a CUSA championship game recently? BEAT ARMY! FILL THE LOWER COTTON BOWL WITH GREEN! GMG! -
Exactly, UNT90! I have no idea what to expect tomorrow. When North Texas officials in the past have been silent about publicizing season ticket sales totals or projected attendance for a game I do get a little nervous. See ya' at the game, fellow West O' Plexer! GMG! PS: One posted that the Wren said we have 500 tickets left from our allotment which (if any are left by tomorrow) the school's ticket office normally returns those unsold to the HOD Bowl officials for Game Day walk up customers. One might wonder how many Army will return if they hadn't sold all of their allotment? Moral of This Thread I Think Is: Show up tomorrow at the HOD bowl game as there will be some tickets available for purchase. BEAT ARMY!

HOD Weather reports looking good folks
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
We are the designate home team for the HOD Bowl so this should be our largest "home" crowd since we played the Texas A&M Aggies in Texas Stadium back in the 90's. A very good day of game walk up ticket sales tomorrow would seal the deal. GMG! -
You saying 30,000 North Texas tickets have been sold not counting the 7,500 the HOD officials are responsible & whatever Army has sold, right?
-
So the question is what was our allotment?

HOD Weather reports looking good folks
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Going to be a beautiful Mean Green Day as we apparently are going to (perhaps) have the largest contingency of North Texas fans in our 100+ year history of playing NCAA football! I'm pumped over all this & now think Coach Seth L. & staff are going to be able to flip recruits to North Texas to give us our best recruiting class in over a decade! ➡️ In retrospect, it seems the class that won the 2014 HOD Bowl was not too shabby. GMG! -
Like the last time we were at this game I hope thousands will once again wear this shade of green. The national ESPN TV cameras will pick up that shade of green very, very nicely. I think HOD has sold out their North Texas sportswear gear but I'd bet most have a shirt similar. It's Texas so we have no idea on the temperature for Tuesday although I hear it will be very nice, but if its cool in the morning wearing this kind of T-shirt over a black sweat shirt looks pretty sharp. That shade of green looks real good even on the Dallas Omni Hotel. (This pic was taken during our last trip to the HOD Bowl).

You can get them on the HoD site. Buddy of mine just got 4 tix in the general admission area for 25.00 each __________________________________________________________________ What keeps HOD Bowl officials from opening the upper deck on the North Texas side? Good grief, I don't think we want to hear: "We coulda' sold another 5K to 10K tickets had there been more seats." (If they would in fact open up the upper deck they need to let the people know now so they won't give up and stay home)? This ticket shortage is an amazing thing to see happening. Some thought our team's APR record (impressive as it is) & in what had been advertised early on as a rebuilding year might keep the casual fans at home; well...don't think so. It's also been said that Army beating Navy in that national TV game was a stroke of good luck for the HOD Bowl people, too. Nevertheless, I think this will help Coach Seth & staff flip a few solid recruits our way that we would not have 3 weeks ago. It's All Good! It's All Green! GMG!

Sunday Morning Breaking News! (updated) LA TECH IS BEING COURTED BY THE AAC TO REPLACE UCONN WHO JUST ACCEPTED MEMBERSHIP TO THE ACC & SMU WILL BE THE RUSTON SCHOOLS SPONSOR. What was your first thoughts or response to that headline which, of course, is fictional for the time being? Probably about the same as mine if it had been real such as..........here we go again as in... North Texas with its largest contingency of fans ever at the 2016 HOD Bowl and it's #5 ranked TV market being treated like chopped liver with conference re-alignment. If the above headline were true, anyone think LaTech would turn that down? Anyone think we would turn that down? So you who live & die CUSA suddenly have a change of heart now? I'm sorry, I'll go to Mean Green hell for such lagniappe as all this, but we've seen similar things happen when the winds of conference re-alignment blow & those winds are never going to stop in today's NCAA. _____________________________________________ The only ones who can determine what & where North Texas future will be are 3 fold: (1) UNT President Smatresk (2). UNT AD Wren Baker (3) UNT Board of Regents Otherwise this (like any subject on GMG.com) is mostly all Hot Sports Opinions from those from every decade & the experiences we all had in our respective decades as North Texas Mean Green fans. HSO's from all of us who have unquestioned passion for North Texas along with all of our concerns as to where a school our size, academic scope and prime location should eventually cast its lot whether that be CUSA or elsewhere. Whatever conference we hang our hat for now & that being CUSA, North Texas has all the key ingredients to where at some point we should eventually aim our ship toward being in a Power-5 conference. Why not the best for North Texas? We're no 2'nd Hand Rose!!!!! GMG! BEAT ARMY!

Manifesto #667 Only way a move to MWC would work for North Texas is if 3 or 4 other "traveling partners" from this region moved with us to form the majority of a MWC East division. Such a new MWC division would be as close travel-wise as most oF the CUSA East which are largely start up programs or moved up from another NCAA classification. AD WREN B. WOULD BENEFIT THE MOST BECAUSE OF SCHEDULING Boise State is not the BSU of the old Big West because they have been ranked in the Top 25 most years since they left the Big West. ❓How many schools in MWC have been ranked in the Top 25 the last 10 years compared to SBC 2.0? I will find out & get back but the difference I really believe would be dramatic. You want to play un-ranked start-ups of schools with no tradition at Apogee or schools who could come into our football palace ranked in the Top 25? You become a Top 25 football program when you beat Top 25 programs. I think we all know what kind of fellow conference schools Wren Baker could market to sell season tickets & have better walk up sales than we have now. Honestly? I don't see UNT leaders being proactive in any of this because that is just not our culture, but it is our culture to be re-active when the re-alignment gods are looking down their noses at us (again) in a not so positive way. Fact is, we would still be in the present SBC if SMU hadn't left CUSA (& that is a no-brainer). ➡️✳️➡️ I don't want our favorite school to be in any conference that SMU & Houston want to have no part of whatsoever. I think we offer as much or more than either of those schools & that comes from a former UH Coog fan from long ago. Fry? He was not around when the best of the Mo' Valley had plans to depart or had departed that league. ➡️Look at the present membership of the Missouri Valley Conference to see what they would become. Sorry to you who were in swaddling clothes or were but gleams in your father's eyes at the time, but Hayden Fry was one of the few true visionaries this school has really ever had & is still... ✳️✳️✳️✳️✳️✳️THE LAST MEAN GREEN HFC WE HAD AT UNT TO FINISH ABOVE .500 WHICH I GUESS MAKES HIM 100% INELIGIBLE TO EVER HAVE ANYTHING NAMED AFTER HIM UP THERE.?? When you have a bunch of NCAA D2 employees in Denton trying to be NCAA D1 you might end up getting what we've gotten up there for way too long. One barometer you can used to determine such an employee is mostly this: Can they get a job at the next level after having years in Denton to prove themselves? IN CLOSING???THIS: It was the move down to NCAA D1-AA that kicked our athletic program & our NCAA social standing in the nutsac & that was 3 years after Fry left for the Big 10. It was not a total disaster except for the way alums back then felt like we'd moved from the penthouse to the trailer park. Fact is, it was about that time our UNT leadership started what seemed like a multi-year/multi-decade series of Keystone Cops modus operendi; that is, beginning with the (then) UNT A.D. (God rest his soul) who missed a deadline (as the story goes) & didn't come up with what I understand was a reasonable fee that would have kept us out of 1-AA. It seems 2 others schools from the state of Louisiana had taken care of business with theirs with one of those schools that presently gives us hell in recruiting & shows all how to do much with little as our school has continued to do little with much.

Other outlets must have some tickets to sell, right? If you called North Texas athletics today I'd wager they have some to sell and leave for fans at the "will call" at one of the Cotton Bowl stadium gates. 1-800-UNT-2366 HOD Bowl officials will be forced to open up the 2nd deck if this is actually true. HOD must have really gotten out into the community to get some fans out for this "possible" perfect storm of attendance to take place. I'm doubting Thomas....I have to see it first.

La Tech has (the proverbial) "it" & has most my adult lifetime. (Wonder if they'd like to share their formula)?? Nevertheless...Congrats Dawgs! ?

Just talked to a Texas Tech grad whose wedding I'll DJ next June who said he wants to go with our small car load of alums & I told him...Come along but shuck the red & black & ✳️WEARGREEN! ✳️
