  1. Most every school never signs all they covet. Once again, remember that era when North Texas played a perennial Top 10 recruiting class school back on their Longhorn hooves? As Ricky Ricardo would ask...esplain'? ➡️G5 schools must have talent evaluators & be all but predictor/soothsayers among its staff who can get a good read how much larger a kid will grow at the college level & will his speed be an asset or a deficit. Boise State coaching staffs had that in common for years, but they also made sure most of their "project" kids had quickness & speed, too. One of their teams with that trait once beat the mighty OU Sooners in one of the most exciting bowl games ever.
  2. ?‍?‍?‍??‍?‍?‍??‍?‍?‍??‍?‍?‍??‍?‍?‍??‍?‍?‍??‍?‍?‍??‍?‍?‍??‍?‍?‍??‍?‍?‍??‍?‍?‍??‍?‍?‍??‍?‍?‍? Counting all of UNT's co-eds & the world's largest university primarily for women (TWU) across town might it be said that Denton has more co-eds than any college town in the Southwest & the Deep South? GMG!
  3. Perhaps if we put together a string of something we haven't done since my student days we will then start getting 2'nd looks? North Texas is not a hard sell for crissakes. Look at our total package? When UT & OU leave the Big 12 our stock will continue to rise but we just need to take care of business now. Bloom where planted.
  4. Yes. As I post I'm watching Larry McMurtry's "Comanche Moon" made for TV movie on the Outdoor Network. That book did not translate successfully to the silver screen.
  5. "Please, please, please..." (James Brown) (Offensive linemen, that is).
  6. Cache, Oklahoma, was the last hunting ground (so to speak) for Chief Quanah Parker as he & his 5 wives lived there in his famous Five Star House. I hope this young man will have a change of heart.
  7. Sound like quite an extravaganza alright!✳️?✳️
  8. Great series! ?? Back in the 70's many HS students who might be future Aggies were urged to go to Rudder Tower to watch a very nicely put together short video on their school with emphases on athletics. Does UNT have anything similar (maybe even inside the Athletic Center) for visitors or potential students some who out of curiosity pulled off the Interstates on a whim; that is, pulled over to take a peek inside Apogee or check out other venues/dorms inside the MG Village? I wonder how many past unofficial visits have actually been made by potential recruits whereas a better first impression of UNT in a small screening room or theatre could make a difference? FWIW, NCAA athletics is show business & the more ballyhoo toward a school's athletic product the more interest could be generated. Just 02.
  9. Uh, what happened? ?
  10. One of the all time Mean Green best! ??
  11. I'd like a map of La Tech's recruiting territory & have for years! LOL!
  12. A culture of losing begats many things & an inferiority complex ranks toward the top. It was the 1975 season that set the bell weather for this North Texas alum as to what direction this program should have been going the whole time and should still be to this day. And I....won't......back.....down! (T. Petty) GMG!
  13. The late UNT Chancellor Alfred F. Hurley called athletics "the picture window of our university." Might that picture window seen by hundreds of thousands who drive thru our campus in west Denton require more student service fees as "UNT shadow university" TSU-San Marcos gets from theirs? Shadowing UNT? First of all, they think they one-upped us by getting the name Texas State U which Fry suggested to Jitter Nolen and our BOR's back in the 70's. (UT & TAMU cut that idea off at the pass during that era). Our powers that be eventually chose UNT in the mid-80's with Governor Bill Clements signing the bill to create our new name in 1988. TSU-SM has been shadowing all we've been doing for decades even being proactive in creating a music museum that UNT with its music past and with its famed College of Music should have taken the lead to have secure for our campus. http://www.txstate.edu/ctmh/ Whats next for TSU-SM? A Texas jazz music addition to their main museum? No blame game here like in daily national politics, but North Texas professors sometimes spend way too much time working on their tenureships for life long jobs in Denton rather than leading the way in doing something special for our school, our students and our alums & then we have the audacity to ask them to support their employer's athletic program? GMG!
  14. Because of our bowl exposure & impressive fan support for a 5 win team at that bowl, might our interest in some players now be less than it was before the HOD Bowl? Not saying that was the reason for this young gent, but will it be for others? GMG!
  15. Put the name Bowl on a game & we show up--even if our team only won 5 games. Put the name Bowl on a game after our 4'th winning year in row with a team ranked in the Top 25 & (per the HOD Bowl contract playing a Big 10 opponent) North Texas fans could fill up half or more the 94,000 seat Cotton Bowl stadium. With our burgeoning constituency that includes a projected (by the state of Texas) enrollment of 45K, subsequent growing alumnus numbers & a Denton County that will be at 1,000,000 population in a few short years, why do some still want to wave the white flag of being in a G5 (might as well call it 1-AA) playoff? It's not about the past at North Texas, but rather our future & that is why Wren Baker took the UNT AD job in the first place. ✳️GMG!✳️
  16. Spoke to a friend (a Texas State-SM grad) up in NE Arkansas just yesterday & he was (even a week after our bowl game) still talking about "that North Texas star running back projectile puking on national TV!" GMG!
  17. Did the UNT Senior class who led the way to win the HOD Bowl game on 1/1/14 rank very high among recruited classes? If it did I can't remember any high 5'ing going on over here. G5 programs that excel do so because they have coaches who know how to evaluate diamonds in the rough that have good speed & quickness. Yes they get a handful of (mostly) 3 star recruits, too. For example (& once again), ex conference mate Boise State became a Top 25 fixture well over a decade & a half ago with hardly any heralded recruiting classes.
  18. Hey! We were a 5 win team for heaven's sake! Still, college football fans all over the Lone Star State saw a very entertaining football game & observed first hand how UNT fans still came out to support our 5 win team by the thousands on a work day 2 days after Christmas to boot! Obviously, an easy prediction that we are going to flip some more solid recruits because of all the positives that this bowl game brought to our alma mater's football program.
  19. That made me laugh with great gusto, Silver!?
  20. Before we crown UTSA as the CUSA recruiting King might we wait until after National signing day to see who stuck, who changed their minds after a P5 offered or didn't make their grades? I agree, CRW, with the other part of your comment, but I would add east Texas & Louisiana to the mix. Also agree with GMG24's idea of hiring one who is full time with the social media aspects of recruiting. I have faith that our new staff will solve this deficit problem in due time. UH president said after the Coogs got the cold shoulder from the Big 12 that that school was going to have to have a "come to Jesus' about their deficit. Not sure we're totally at that stage yet, but for us at least maybe a "come to Matthew, Mark, Luke or John" would be more in order. The CUSA East upstarts when they come to Denton will kill our gate receipt opportunities at Apogee. Wish we could have a league of those who actually want to be at the next level (as in CUSA West plus La Tech/Southern Miss) rather than be in one that will keep us all where we're at. ❓Might the NCAA give such a new conference a waiver on all those things that keep any new conference from forming? We do live in different times economically. Suggest to NCAA powers that with us it's all about having no TV revenue that creating such a more regionalized conference would help mostly because their other half's intent on keeping all the chicken salad while our spread out coast to coast G5 conferences get to keep the chicken bones. Its time to be very creative among all of the G5 who don't want a playoff that forever will keep us all at a de facto 1-AA level with never a chance to be the next Boise State or Louisville or...Western Michigan (of which it's AD "understandably" spoke loudly against a G5 play-off). Tough times ahead if our leaders don't take the bull by the horns & get UNT in a more Big Boy'esque kind of setting that will set the stage for an eventual P5 entry. Lest some forget, we are in a major league sports market of which TCU at this point seems to be the only DFW school who understands that.
  21. Whoa boy.? G5 class action suit vs P5 needed very quickly (as we need much more annual TV revenue) as well as playing more (name) schools at Apogee that produce better gate revenues plus private donors.
  22. I thought that SFA game was a sellout. (Thanks, Jim Hobdy)!? The only thing that stirs fan interest for many other than our regulars is when we play the Big Boys. Being in a "Big Boy" environment like the HOD Bowl was last Tuesday seems to excite our base, too. So many new faces. Can you imagine a winning UNT football program doing that with the much larger constituency we have today compared to those 1-AA days??
  23. I love the Chrome! The players seem to like it. Hope it becomes our #1 helmet.
