  1. Great pic!✅
  2. Someone might want to frame this for their man cave. The pic at the bottom would make a great bronze statue pose IMHO.
  3. "Memories are made of this." (part of a Dean Martin hit song lyric) from the Your Hit Parade golden days of TV. (Remember Gisele MacKenze)? All of that era happening B.E. (before Elvis). Some of my early student days at UNT I lived at 316 Fry Street as the Vietnam war was winding down. UNT was a true hippy'ville! First head shop in the region was located on Fry Street. People's Park was located where the General Academic Building (GAB) is located. Summer jazz concerts at the park were cool featuring some of the greatest amateur musicians in the world (from the UNTCOM). There could be around 2,000 students sitting on blankets and foldable patio chairs taking in the music. One could walk thru the crowd from one end of the crowd to the other and come out a tad high on 2'nd hand pot smoke. Believe me, it was a different era at our dear old alma mater. I survived it all. GMG!
  4. Yes, included the world largest university primarily for women--Texas Womens University.
  5. The UNT recruits list on the below link from BV's DRC article where it reads as... public comments. Anyway, that list had us with more 3 star recruits than I previously thought. One 2 star offensive linemen was a Dave Campbell's Texas Football pre-season 1'st team all state albeit he finished on a lower all state team. You have to think he could well be "coached up" to a quality college football offensive lineman. Our new offensive line coach "MUST" be a Texas HS recruitinator delux! He will have a great school, great athletic venue in the Mean Green Village & hate to sound sexists, but there are 30,000 Co-Eds in Denton, Texas, America. Not many other college towns in the Lone Star State can equal or come close to that. Note: Crosstown Texas Womens U now has 15,000 plus students. Never knew their enrollment had grown that large. http://www.dentonrc.com/sports/sports-headlines/20170202-football-with-full-prep-time-littrell-addresses-unt-needs.ece?_ga=1.261366664.482929033.1486334287 GMG!
  6. Yes, someone in that mold. When he was at Tech I'd wager we lost more than a few coveted recruits. Bet he'd also have no problem helping our current staff sell Apogee, the Mean Green Village, apparent new Indoor Practice Facility sooner than later & 30,000 co-eds in Denton,Texas, America. ?Folks, we are not some chopped liver school located in some backwater outback. GMG!
  7. Does North Texas have a QB that fits most or all the above criteria?
  8. Replacement? A Texas HS recruiting goat ropin' son of a gun! All is fair in love & war so just steal one from one of our competitors. GMG!
  9. Also, when the Sun Belt began football operations, North Texas had already been back in NCAA D1-A for 5 years with some scholarship numbers advantages I think that gave us as I recall Yet...other newbie SBC schools were just up from NCAA D1-AA & had (I think) fewer scholarships at that level (although I stand to be corrected with that). By the time the other SBC schools caught us after our 4 bowl appearance it was katy bar the door for us as they took off & our losing streak began. After all that happened, it seems emerging SBC football program Troy received some Top 25 votes which I'm not sure we ever were fortunate to get in our 4 years in a row bowl run. Note: Not intending to take anything away from those 4 bowl appearances as we did win 1 of them and also receive some very nice publicity from those with national TV appearances with each of those games. It was also an era when some bowl officials apparently started recognizing that North Texas would travel some impressive numbers of fans for a week night bowl game, too. Going Forward: I hope when we begin our championship run that it won't be because all the other CUSA schools are having down years or look like a MASH unit when we play them and I also hope we will shed this "we po' but proud" image we created for ourselves the last 35 years and shoot for Top 25 ranked championship teams. If we aren't shooting for Top 25 then at this level just what the hell are we shooting for?
  10. This (at present) non-offer to a great & loyal alum's kin just adds to our reputation as a school whose mindset since 1982 when the 'un-doing of all things Fry began & our motto became "we po' but proud" (being po'). Am I pissed with what has been the squandering of our athletic program my entire adult life from the wrongful hiring (and keeping too long on the payroll) of obvious D2 employees parading around as D1 "would be's?" Damn right I (and others) are pissed! You who have never seen as much as 4 winning seasons in a row should be twice as pissed. GMG!
  11. ➡️ Main stream media will not report that 2 of our signings left their high schools as 4 star (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) recruits, either. ?
  12. Spin or no spin, Todd Dodge's first UNT class had 15 "3" star recruits & no winning season from that group. Yes, we'd all like as many star'd recruits as possible, but that still does not always guarantee a winner. Most of North Texas best thru the years were most likely 2 star recruits "coached up." They just didn't have enough surrounding them to give us decades of winning teams.
  13. Another older nestor agrees. Of course, that would now be as an AAC member. We can't keep dummying down or we'll start justifying being in a conference with Slippery Rock U or Houston Baptist. North Texas is an exceptional school. (Repeat that 3 times & click your heels twice). GMG!
  14. I don't predict outcomes of games--never have in 40 plus years as a Mean Green fan but.......this upcoming North Texas Mean Green football team will kick nUTSAk's butt at Apogee Stadium this Fall! I Guarantee It! It will also be the loudest crowd at Apogee since the Rice U "The Stand" game on a Halloween Night and when (then) UH Coach Kevin Sumlin had to call 2-3 "fans too damn loud" timeouts. PlummMeanGreen aka James Plummer, 6'th Generation Texan, 1976 UNT grad, 2/3/2017 GMG!
  15. I told a Big 12 alum at my morning coffee who actually watched our HOD Bowl game on ESPN about this discussion along with the pros and cons of it and his exact words....."Jeez, man, your coach took a 1 win team last year to a bowl game this year and yall have some talking about firing him over something as unscientific as recruiting?" (I told him the natives were restless because of start up schools and schools who hadn't been in NCAA D1 for even a generation plus those schools I'd never heard of the day we beat the Tennessee Vols, circa 1975). His words got me to thinking back to what kind of W/L success we had after former UNT Coach Todd Dodge signed 15 3 star recruits. Well, didn't we saw "1" whole winning season from some of that group of 15 with a HOD Bowl win in the Cotton Bowl before the largest contingent of North Texas fans, students and alums ever gathered?

  17. I stand to be corrected, but has TTech since they entered the old SWC (now Big 12) in 1956 & other than 1 year when they tied for an SWC title; nevertheless, have the Red Raiders ever won outright a conference championship since 1956?
  18. '"Defense wins games." (Vince Lombardy)
  19. The game opening sustained drive for a TD with one completed pass after another by Fine vs. a favored MUTS showed me what the kid could do when he had blocking & the receivers ran their routes. Some say he got hurt the game prior to the game coaches said he (in deed) got hurt. Whichever QB can bring it is who we'll all support.
  20. Yes!✳️?✳️
  21. ✅?✅Great research! I didn't realize that we had recruited 7 "3" star athletes, though. Is there a list of those players? GMG!
  22. Wren Baker & Seth Littrell have inherited more than a few decades of impacted crap that will not be shit out the shute in their first 2 years. Prior bad hires or temporarily good hires that ended bad (and under .500) is our game at UNT. You can't blame them for our prior culture. It's like your dad died & only left you his unpaid bills as your inheritance. Baker & Littrell inherited nothing but the "P" word in Denton. No, we were not a shiny new start up toy but rather a ship with over 100 plus years of barnacles hanging on our exterior. We as fans & alums are part of that barnacle build up as much as we'd hate to admit it. Finger pointing is one of our best traits--problem solving is not. When Rod Rust ran out of the Joe Greene era talent & then his last season finished with 0 (or was it 1) win. SMU fired Fry--North Texas hired Fry. He came in & won 5 games his 1'st season & then in year 2 he had a 2 win season. This school came close to dropping football right before Fry arrived after Rod Rust last season so yet another dark cloud created by our (then) tenured activists on campus. If there is ever a time for endless bad cycles to end it's now. No matter how we won or who the opponent, we still had coaches who got 5 wins out of a 1 win team when most thought there was no talent left behind to do even that. Honestly, how many 3 star linemen has UNT ever recruited? Seems we recruited more skill position speed along with what could be a group of coachable (& grow'able in the weight room) linemen. Possibly among this group the kind that can be "coached up" to 3 or more stars at the college level. Now if we had coaches who could not "coach up" talent we'd really be in trouble. I don't think we have that problem at North Texas. "Flagelations will cease when morale improves."
  23. As I had posted before, SUMG and I sat in a UNT Athletic Director's office in the early 80's and listened in awe (not the good kind) as that AD was almost bragging how the new modus operendi at North Texas was to all but dismantle the national progress we'd made under Fry's 6 years, make all the teacher's college crowd of that era happy (again) as he spoke to us about doing all that with almost a sparkle in his eyes. SUMG & I left that meeting ready to comitt Harry-Carey or go on an all night drunk (albeit we didn't). We were (still are) just like many of you--alums extremely passionate about our school's athletic program. Amazing just how quickly time has flown by, though. From that 1982 day on & IMO our athletic program has never been the same; that is, never the same to those of us who actually got more excited about playing (and beating) a SEC Tennessee Vols team rather than mixing it up with schools most of us had never even heard of in the 70's that comprise most of the CUSA membership today. I can't even tell you if there was a UTSA in existence on that 1976 evening we travelled what the Austin American-Statesmen said were almost 20,000 Mean Green fans to DKR Memorial for the first time any school like us of that era (La Tech, Southern Miss, Tulsa, etc) had ever even scheduled The University of Texas. (Fry initially signed them for a 4 game series which would expand to more games in later decades). Some of you younger guys probably think we who mention some of this past at North Texas are on some serious meth, souped up Geritol or worse. Of course, when you get to be an older fart you tend to repeat yourself along with old war stories to a level of ad nausem to those much younger. Fact is, in those early 80's our program was given a new direction with low goals. Easy to meet small goals, isn't it, but we rarely even did that. The early 80's became the 'undoing of one that some on this forum even now try to turn into "the real Darth Vader of NTSU" yet that one who had the audacity to say North Texas (State) was exceptional. So we lost that fight to the Boys Downtown & the old Nestors in Denton who were just fine with NT having a teacher's college state of mind. So the Beat Goes On......Many of us would then begin to observe about 6 former conference mates who had figured out the formual to a successful NCAA college athletic program as they went "beep beep" right past us. I can see 2 or 3 schools in CUSA now that could easily make history repeat itself for all of us again as our Denton braintrust still tries to figure out this thing called NCAA college athletics; that is, as we continue to attempt to find our true identity; which shade of green fits our school best and if we want to be UNT or NT with separate logo letters or intertwined. "Mrs. Lincoln, other than what happened tonight, did you enjoy the play?" (WHAT THE HELL)? OK, to go 180 degrees after the above diatribe which some might have interpreted as some sort of a white flag, but fact still remains that some of us feel damn good with Wren Baker as the North Texas AD & that because he came from successful programs and seems to have a sense of what's missing in Denton but to quote Bill Clinton post-Monica Lewinsky sex scandal...........LISTEN TO ME NOW........NO ATHLETIC DIRECTOR CAN UNDO ALL THAT'S HAPPENED AT UNT THE LAST 40 YEARS IN ONE or 2 YEARS.............AND............... .................... I still have this ridiculous 6'th sense karma kind of thing that says Seth Littrell is going to flush all the sludge from our storied & mismanaged football coaching past along with the poor recruiting practices that came with it and........slowly (but surely).......... get this thing called Mean Green football turned around. The timing for that to happen couldn't be any better for the many of us who don't have too many more 5 year plans left. GMG!
  24. Not saying this was the deciding factor that caused "the low blow" against our school, but don't kid yourselves.....these kids do read the message boards of the schools they are interested in (or some of their friends do & report back). "– UNT lost a three-way battle for DeAndre McNeal, a wide receiver from Fullerton College in California, with Florida Atlantic. UCLA was also in on the former Texas wide receiver. That was a bit of a low blow for UNT. The Mean Green will face the Owls this year." (from the DRC) Maybe next year on the eve of National Signing Day "Coach" will put a nice link about how damn good UTSA is smokin' it on GMG.com. Some out there might just wonder why in the hell do we even keep trying with all the non-stop D2 level shit that has met the approval of many on this forum for years. The W/L records during all those years (and decades) do not tell a lie. We need Seth Littrell & staff to turn the tide & change this cycle in the worst way.
  25. But UNT90, on the eve of a North Texas National Signing Day he puffs (to use an old journalism verb), uh,.....FAU? Hellsbells! Then why don't we all just get in a circle, hold hands and sing the CUSA version of Kum Bah Yah? :) Spread the wealth, babeeee'! Just thought the timing of his link was off, that's all. Did he post a similar link on the FAU board about UNT pre-HOD Bowl game? Did "the Coach" show the impressive pictorial Mean Green crowd support 2 days after Christmas at the Cotton Bowl Stadium (and on a work day to boot)? Hey! I'm just as sensitive about things that I don't think elevate our cause as the next poster on this forum and I've had 40 plus years to attain this sensitivity--probably close to the same number of years as you, UNT90! LOL! Nevertheless, I hope we have a happy day today & get some kids we can build on from last season & go to a bowl game 2 years in a row with a 6 or 7 win team! GMG
