  1. Blue skies right now in Weatherford which is a whole 59 minutes from Apogee Stadium. I think we will all be happy with the weather for an early September game. Remember Baylor U vs UNT at venerable Fouts Field when you could fry an egg on the parking lot? 105 degrees was it? UNT beat the Bears that evening as I recall & Booger Kennedy had a great game. •••Seems there were about 5K-6K traveling Baylor fans in Denton. GMG!
  2. Doesn’t the approximate 1,000 (+/-) bandsmen scheduled for UNT Band Day tomorrow count as a promo? Many of those bandsmen parents & friends will want to come see Johnny & Susie toot their horns. Be interesting to know where they will be seated. Take a break—This photo totally unrelated to this thread.
  3. Good directions below. GMG!
  4. 🙄I’ll be 72 in November so I’m getting old(er), have lost another step & just a tad more forgetful but—what are SL’s sins once again? What are yours? I know mine but good golly Miss Molly— “He who is without sin…”(?) Come on, folks, let it rest for one game because all its doing now is hurting the program & recruiting. Surely all you “hire & fire” human resources experts know potential recruits read GMG, especially the ones seriously considering North Texas. NOW—LET US PRAY! 🦅❇️🦅 BEAT THE HELL OUT OF SMU!
  5. He really does say “GMG” after every post-game interview on TV & radio.
  6. KingDL1 invited all.
  7. Watch the 2 videos featuring the Coach & QB. Look at the quirky smiles. They are very smug & confident they’re going to squash North Texas like a June bug. (They were the same way in 2018, too, before Dykes discovered the joy of raiding P5 school rosters & later a particular G5 roster). (Adjusted) UNT 35 SMU 31 🗣••• A Denton & DFW UNT alums showing like no other time before in Denton sports history could do very much for the electricity inside Apogee. In fact, a few Mean Green players are requesting for that to happen. GMG!
  8. (Tryin’ to sound like a politician here)— Let me be perfectly clear, 🙄 if we had about 10 NIL P5 transfers (to mesh with our last good recruiting class), I would be a bit more excited about our chances Saturday night but still—I LIKE OUR CHANCES. ••• I’m bringing a 1973 Texas State—SM grad Saturday night who saw our UTEP game on TV. He has a ranch in Parker County (& no, it’s not Taylor Sheridan—see below). Ted W. also wants to check out fabulous Apogee Stadium for the first time ever so to lock him in I told him I had an extra ticket on the 30 yard line. He’ll be at the tailgating & the game. (When I told him about KingDL1’s tailgating menu that clinched it)! 👍👍 Mr. & Mrs. Taylor Sheridan, Weatherford, Texas GMG!
  9. I’m wonder what broke him down? That began with his turning down a P5 HFC’s gig which many think put him in a funk. Use your imagination for the rest. GMG!
  10. FFR, wasn’t that you with the battle flag in front of the Fouts student section getting the crowd into “the fight?”
  11. I think 28K is about right. 40% chance of rain but no sweltering heat in the forecast & that is a good thing. •••If the record-breaking Freshmen class show in abundance SRO is within reach. Dandy Don’ism: If ifs & buts? I wish the MG were in mid-season form instead of the present because of so many young players with just one game under their belt. Oh well… GMG!
  12. No, no, no, not that at all but I was just wondering what post I would have said that. No biggie.😬
  13. They will. It’s their season opening game.
  14. A UNT College of Music official tweeted yesterday that they will have 800 bandsmen for UNT Band Day this Saturday. Throw in some parents of those bandsmen & that would be for a total of approximately 1,000 extra fans . GMG!
  15. When does the NCAA put some rules or stipulations that will keep schools from recruiting others best plays or—said college coaches from paying HS coaches to go to another campus to convince their former HS star to leave for another school? When, NCAA? GMG!
  16. Help me out here, but where did I say that? (I do miss them, though, but anxious to see what this present group can do). GMG!
  17. That there feller had to be the Mayor of Fry Street in 1972 when I moved from Alvin JUCO to 316 Fry Street, Denton. It was (as advertised) a true hippy haven •••Disclosure Time: Who knew Tex Watson of the Manson Family was a UNT alum? (Uh….Keep that to yourself)?🤢 Pictured is 6 X’s Grammy winner Norah Jones off Fry Street & in front of Rick’s Place with some dude on top her old Cadillac. GMG!
  18. 👍👍 Never understood how we could not have better prepared for that game at Ownby Stadium. . God rest his soul, but I was mad at Corky that whole season after that game. I may still have splinters in my butt from those old Ownby Stadium wooden bleachers. (Honestly, I would have loved exploring underneath that stadium in old closets, storage rooms, etc, before they got it ready to use post-DP). ___________________ In Memory of our Friend one Richard Scarborough Spears—the creator of the Flying Worm. Rick would have been all over this SMU game at fabulous Apogee Stadium this Saturday evening. Win one for the creator of “the Worm”, Mean Green! GMG!
  19. Harry, I think newbie UNT students (maybe some SMU’ers, too) might want to read & watch the videos in this thread since they were still just a 💚gleam in their Dad’s eyes. Someone put the 1990 short vignette on YouTube but I couldn’t find it. Maybe one of your GMG members can? GMG
  20. Maybe playing a school that some call our greatest rivalry will get a couple more fans out? If I were a prospective recruit & read this forum I would probably say—“No F’n Way, Jose!”
  21. Bravo! 👏 My exact sentiments, DentonLurker! When I think of past games with SMU 4 past games come to mind. (1). In 1980(?) we played the Ponies at Texas Stadium & on the first damn play of the game: Craig James runs “ALL THE WAY” for an 80 yard TD! (Oh boy).🤢 2). Strangely enough—I think back to last Falls game at G Ford Stadium . It was the 4’th quarter of a game closer than the scored indicated; anyhow, in that last quarter I keep seeing their speedy receivers running past our DB’s like it was a walk in the park on a Sunday morning. (3) Then 1974…Mean Green & future KC Chief’s great J.T. Smith & a Mustang player square off helmet-to-helmet. Someone took a B & W photo of that scene. Note: There was a black cloud hanging over that game inasmuch as SMU lost a player 24 hours earlier to meningitis. I believe his name was Dwain Staten. (4) Of course the 1990 (televised locally) Fouts Field game (with a capacity crowd) bench clearing brawl after UNT blocked a field goal attempt ending the first half. That was funny! You had SMU Coach Forrest Gregg & UNT’s Corky Nelson calmly talking with the refs while players were still pushing & shoving.😬 (Hey! We won that game). GMG
  22. SMUers had several Red/Blue tents set up last time they were in Denton & after spying on them on their fan forum there will be more of their fans for this game. Seems this game is turning somewhat into “the Event” for many of their fans. (Guess they saw what the oddsmakers said)😳😱 With a Band Day promo this game might now have a chance of selling out. GMG!
  23. I repeat posting these 2 pics of past UNT Band Days in the 1960’s. Note: They had a Band Day scheduled for the home opener last year(?) but due to the heat band members were falling out like flies so UNT officials wisely sent them home. 😱•••If UNT had a Band Day that featured all the Texas & Oklahoma high school bands whose band directors all graduated from our favorite school they’d probably fill 1 (maybe 2) Apogee Stadiums. * The pic of a UH Band Day in 1966 & at a game I attended I throw in for free. (That would be 13,000+ total band members on the Astrodome field). GMG!
  24. I agree with both of you. We need 4 turnovers to keep it close up to the 4’th quarter then turn our own speedy skill people loose on the Mustangs.
  25. Sorry to hear this. RIP, Brett.
