Yes, it was Dale and a kid who played for the high school in the Brazoria County town I was born---Angleton. That kids name was David Stanley--an SMU linebacker. I think David was the first SMU player whistle-blower. Gosh! That DP went all the way to the Governor's Mansion in Austin with the guy who signed the bill that changed us from NTSU to UNT, one Bill Clements. GMG!

Say what we will, but he is going to get some wins out of those (was it 17) 3 star recruits last recruiting season. Of course, they have to be coached and have a good locker room culture. Culture? Who started all this culture business? Silver Eagle! WAS IT YOU! :) GMG!

Dale acting like North Texas is in a foreign land & acting as if he knows so little about us. Hellsbells! He used to send his money up to Denton since his daughter is a UNT grad & I believe his son is too. Dale reports whichever way the sports wind blows & that hasn't been a Norte Tejas wind too many times in the past. Of course, we have to accept our share of the blame for that, too. SMU & TCU do not get much Channel 8 air time either best I recall. I rarely watch local network news or sports but spend more time watching movies on The Dish. STILL......10 winning seasons in a row; every game sold out forcing us to put that expansion on the student side where its built for such; some P1 wins that gets us national attention then who knows where our ship ends up. GMG!

Me After The Big Win (Gif Thread)
PlummMeanGreen replied to Green Lantern's topic in Mean Green Football
I had purchased an extra ticket for my former UNT college roommate. He hadn't been inside Apogee since the UH game in 2011. Last couple of minutes, we left our seats on the 50 yard line heading out of the stadium and to our cars. By the time we got to the Wing Zone stadium portal we heard crowd noise & ran back inside to see what the commotion was all about. Glad we did. From the end zone concourse we saw Mason Fine 's last 2 passes to our great Mean Green receivers. I still don't know how Bussey stayed in bounds with his momentum taking him toward the sideline & then he straightened out to score the TD. Amazing. WHAT A FINISH! GMG! -

Congrats to you & daughter!👍👍 GMG!

Why not pass them up with the weight room & trainer's facilities? Just sayin' with a question mark.

Vote for QB Mason Fine - Allstate Sugar Bowl Manning Award
PlummMeanGreen replied to brooks91's topic in Mean Green Football
Vote, done! Proud of all our Mean Green!👍👍 What "share" link could we put on our Facebook pages to get him more votes? Anyone? GMG! -
Side story: North Texas beat Tennessee...Vols fire their (then) HFC Bill Battle; Battle turns that 🍋 into lemonade & creates College Licensing...then he rides off into the 🌅 a jillion'aire. (It's almost like a Walt Disney movie.

Good post ol' friend. Good to have seen you the other night. I apologize for my language. When I thought we were going to lose this game I was just frustrated as hell that we (at the time) were being schooled by a 6 year old football program My old college roommate sitting by me told me he'd never known me to cuss the 40 plus years we've known each other. I sang at his first wedding. In fact, wrote the song & used a 12 string guitar for my accompanyment but now I do what Old Men do best......RAMBLE! Mason Fine? The ingredient he brings to the game is his being a field general aka leader. Skills are essential for any QB, but that other ingredient many times separates the tax-payers from those who don't pay a damn dime to the IRS. (There I go again). GOD I LOVE THIS TEAM! I played the video over & other yesterday & still couldn't believe what I was seeing. GMG!

That pretty well sizes it up, Rowdy. The UTSA fans I saw at Apogee were good sports post-loss. Some of us were saying last week the team that scored last wins that game. GMG!

2 winning seasons (give or take) every 10 years & I am almost shocked we have the attendance base that we have. I will die never understanding why we here in Texas where football is King don't fill this stadium every game but.....oh well. Can you imagine how dramatically attendance would improve when its 8 winning seasons out of 10 years around here with a few impressive P1 wins (like Troy over LSU few weeks ago) but like untcampbell said in another thread: "It's just who and where we are right now." GMG!

Guilty! My old college roommate who I bought a ticket for this game and I were heading out the stadium when it looked like we had run out of time for momentum to come back our way. Well, we got to an end zone portal when we heard that we actually had the ball back on the 2 yard line. So back inside the stadium we go to witness one of the darndest endings to a college football game most of us have ever witnessed. Matter a fact, I'd bet many of us right now are stilling pinching ourselves about what we saw at Apogee Stadium. Well........I was a bad boy tonight. I had had my fill of a 6 year old football program from the Alamo City having their way with us (again). I cursed everything from the Pope to my worst uncle disgusted that we were not kicking some major Road Runner tail. After all, we've been in the football business over 100 years. You follow a football program for most your adult life beginning with Hayden Fry's first game to coach which was my first game to watch as a UNT student. As you begin to realize age is catching up with you and you have more years to look backwards than forward you just want to see some major good things to happen for the school we love best. Dammit, for a major Texas university, we just been under-achieving for way too long. All of us early birds who had been heading out of Apogee and then were standing on the concourse watching "The Drive" were acting like school kids who'd just been told they were getting everything for Christmas they had asked Santa. Never seen grown men acting so happy in all my life. Strangers all over high Five'ing as if old friends. To those sitting around me who I may have offended with my language tonight I apologize. Not my real nature to do that kind of thing as it is, but for the life of me I just didn't want that school from the Alamo City beating all of ours favorite school again. Good night all &......................Go Mean Green!

Being on the right side of history is when you know the Founding Fathers if around would most likely invite you to a pub for a beer. I think the tax-paying part of America that turned the Electoral College almost solid red can see past deceptions, lies and all their subsequent (expected) results along with a national debt of about $19 trillion to decide for themselves what the right side of history is for them. Get used to it because that side is going to be around for awhile to erase the rest of the Alinsky=Soros crap that imposters imposed on us. WE STILL BE THE MAJORITY! NO APOLOGIES! SMATRESK BETTER GIVE IT A REST. LAST UNT PREZ WHO GOT TOO POLITICAL GOT HIS WALKING PAPERS.

Name one regular season game more meaningful than this one
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I agree, KRAM1. He has some things from the homefront that kept him from today's game. Actually, he still follows almost all the sports programs at UNT. In due time me'thinks he'll be back in person. Most of my absence has been business related as you probably know. I had this weekend off so I'm back acting like I'm a UNT college freshman all over again. Was on campus the other day to pick up my tickets and toured campus. I was shocked by all I saw! A good shock of course. UNT and Denton were some of the happiest times in my life and I can't wait to be up there in just a few hours to reminisce and get all happy all over again. See ya', Mark. GMG! -
What today is about - Big Picture
PlummMeanGreen replied to TheColonyEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
And that M.O.(TheColonyEagle) has kept our school in under-achieving status for much too long & that being why so many alums from decades past refuse to be teased into buying in. Some in the Lone Star State look at us and merely shake their heads wondering.....why the hell can't North Texas with its location, (now) great venues among all its other unique resources get unstuck out of its (& I'll add---mostly self-created) quagmire? We all want an official re-launching to get us out of all that. Hopefully, tonight is that beginning although I hate to put too much into one game. "IF" we lost tonight--it's really not the end of this season because..I think UTSA will have another conference loss. Yet it's winning seasons that we have too much a shortage of. After all, its never too late to re-launch with any of this until they start throwing dirt on some of us then I guess that's a bit too late. GMG! -
2 days ago I believe a UNT staff person said they had accounted for 16,000 plus tickets (accounted I guess meaning sold) and that DID NOT include the UNT students. If that is the case........GET TO THE TAILGATING & GAME EARLY INSTEAD OF BEING ON BOTH INTERSTATES DURING THE MIDDLE OF THE 1'ST QUARTER. GMG!

Name one regular season game more meaningful than this one
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Ditto. Here's a photo of 2 familiar friends to many of us. This was taken at last night's Hayden Fry shindig attended by very many people. Coach Fry is looking chipper for 88 years old. John said last evening was fantastic. Many of the Mean Green players of the Fry era were there & will be at this evening's game with their Coach. Coach Fry spoke for about 15 minutes & covered many things. (Shoot! I hope John doesn't mind that I shared this pic). :( -
Receive. ❓Haven't we defended all year & much of last season? GMG!

Alamo? Is PeeWee Herman's bike still in its basement?🤔 Tony, I'm bringing my old UNT roommate to this game & told him about your smorgasbord. May we come? We'll pay. GMG! -
Official UTSA Game Score Prediction Thread
PlummMeanGreen replied to MeanGreenTexan's topic in Mean Green Football
North Texas.............35 UTSA.......................31 * Apogee crowd noise causes 2 UTSA timeouts. * Mason Fine is on a mission for God (a Blues Brothers quote from movie) * Wilson has another 100+ yard game * 88 year old UNT coaching legend Hayden Fry gets a standing ovation. * UTSA fans almost fill their sections * Last team to score wins game & that team will be wearing green -
Uppermost in my mind if I were a Road Runner supporter is how the team who beat them in the AlamoDome last Saturday night we methodically drilled & won handily at their place in Hattiesburg, MS. Still, I go into this game tomorrow night at Apogee Stadium as a toss-up. My concern is the old Vince Lombardy saying of "Good Defense Wins Championships." Our defense is a bend not break defense thus far. Yet if our Mean Green offense matches up well with the UTSA defense then we win 35-31. As they say.....I guess that's why we play the game? GMG!

And Silver Eagle, little did we know that on a very frosty November, 1978, night at Fouts Field playing (and beating) the U of Memphis Tigers, that it would be Coach Fry's last game as UNT's AD/HFC. Later, Coach Fry said if he'd just had some bowl games as rewards for his Mean Green teams that he would have never left Denton. He saw so much potential at North Texas. In 6 years in Denton he was beginning to tap into all that potential. GMG!

Don't want to get all scientific and all, but the tickets already sold with anticipated UNT student attendance in a stadium like Apogee which has outstanding "crowd noise" acoustics is worth at least a TD for the home team....IMHO. Remember when HFC Kevin Sumlin had to call at least 2 timeouts due to Apogee crowd noise for the Houston game? Moral of story: Make Noise Tomorrow NIght! GMG!
