Odds Harrell and Filani leave for UTEP?
PlummMeanGreen replied to Andrew's topic in Mean Green Football
Ad nauseam time from yours truly, but for the average fan to buy in to our program we have to elevate it from being a one hit wonder kind of program & put several winning seasons in a row together. Then to really get their attention play some P5 teams & win some of those games. To garner an attitude from the average fan like "hellsbells, they are really serious about all this" then we need to beat some Top 25 ranked teams a la former conference-mate Boise State. DFW is a major league sports market & we have major league sports fans among our DFW alumnus base. History says they just won't show for teams they haven't heard of like, uh, basketball school Old Dominion who we play in 2 Saturdays? The Sun Belt & CUSA are filled with schools I'd never heard of when I was a UNT student in the 70's. SMU gets our average fan's attention because of who they used to be. Even more the reason our school needs to step up its Game Day promotions program. We had 7,000 empty seats for the UTSA game & most our home games. Can we find those additional 7,000 fans in the 7 million citizens populated Metroplex to fill those seats every game? Truth be told, we could probably get at least half that 7,000 number from our UNT student body. * Denton County is close to having 1,000,000 citizens. When I was UNT student, Denton County had a population of 99,000. Just my .02. GMG! -
Over & over & over! It's a thing of beauty. So is the Lawrence reception. GMG!

When Shank' coached for Corky Nelson he'd recruit Fort Worth & drop by my office on occasion & we'd eat lunch at Dos Gringos near UNT Health Science Center--it was always Dos Gringos. LOL! Abner Haynes was with Ron on one of those FW visits & that was real Mean Green magic for this alum, but....I never knew nor did I ever ask RS what round he was drafted. Thanks, EagleIsland for that enlightenment! ππ PS: For you real oldtimers, Shank told me a star Arkansas Razorback (Bill Montgomery?) once called him when he was with the Steelers apologizing to him for the UNT game-winner he'd caught against Frank Broyles Hogs that was negated by an SWC homer referee. I do believe Deep Green was at that game, too, & witnessed that catch. (I was in High School in the Houston area). βοΈ Shank called Abner Haynes: Father Time!π GMG!

IMPLODE? LOL! Thanks for the blessingπ I LOVE ALL MY LIBERAL FRIENDS & RELATIVES! ππππ See me at Apogee & you get a beer or soft drink on my nickel (or is it $5)? I'm really a better listener than talker--I learn from everyone both sides of the aisle. One of the characteristics of a successful & well-rounded university is its diversification & openness to discourse. I believe that's what the Founding Fathers had in mind for our democracy. God bless them for all the hell they had do endure from King George III & Company. (Pardon me, but I'm still pumped from the last 2 minutes last Saturday night at fabulous Apogee)! GO MEAN GREEN!

True. π We need a decade of winning to change the many attitudes of those who are our critics. -

UTEP is not the best steppingstone for college football' brighter lights. Now if it were a spot for UTEP basketball that would be another thing. -
A little success at UNT & everybody's got everybody packing? Area media treats UNT like chopped liver because last 25 years we've hardly been chicken salad. We earned every bit of that & thus the attitude we get from all the area Dale Hansens. What would happen if we had 8-10 consecutive winning seasons in Denton? The Apocalypse? Would be nice to see since most of us haven't seen that. Best I've seen is 4 winning seasons in a row along with a 5/5-1 in 1973. Some of us are running out of 4 & 5 year plans if we keep changing HFC's unless we duplicate what Boise did when they changed coaches about every 2 or 3 years. I could live with Top 25 rankings annually with every change just like the Broncos (very admirably) pulled off. βοΈ No matter who comes or goes I'm still buzzed about what we all saw at Apogee last Saturday night. In fact, I'm so buzzed that I did a gig trade-off with another area DJ so I could come to the Old Dominion game in 2 weeks. GMG!

So the Super Pit is small time? Who do you think funded a large part of it? Maybe 50% of the populous who pay taxes did (like for everything else in this country today)? Its a mixed bag. Fully financed by donors is the better plan, but if the facility is used for a large part of an academic year by students, then public funding could free up an amount that could be earmarked for a varsity baseball program? I think it is fortunate that we will get an IPF no matter how it is funded. GMG!

I know you are but who am I? LOL! I love Libs! They have nothing but isolate & demonize for America & that they learned from their bible, i.e., Alinsky's "Rules For Radicals." Losing 1,000 Democrat seats the last 8 years suggests America just ain't buying in to polarizing with identity politics & certainly not isolate & demonize tactics. 2020 will solidify that. I don't like Trump's arrogance, but we didn't vote for him to win Popularity Contests. We know now winners of those from the usual skewed polls sometimes means they aren't worth a jar of warm spit as a leader. We voted for Trump (because for crissakes Hillary was the other choice); but we voted for him to front load the Supreme Court with about 2-3 more Scalias & to remove about 150 Marxist federal judges across the land to retirement homes like some public universities have become for those who cannot do. (My professors at UNT were not part of that group, especially one Dr. Mike Campbell--best history teacher I ever had at any level). GO MEAN GREEN! β‘οΈ With that I believe we can all agree. Moving on...

I'm 66. Truman was President when I was born. I saw "white only" water fountains in Angleton, Texas. We were Baptist & told racism was a sin back in the 50's. I think it still is. Most Baby Boomers in Texas got "proper raisin'." My parents were Democrats who finally saw where that party was headed. Clinton & Obama proved them to be to right. It's a freakin' train wreck from those 2. Now they are Deep State with what I will predict are gloomy futures. Too many in the heartland clung to their guns & religion which for Democrats are like a crucifix to a vampire. π I realize a public university forum for the "enlightened" (my butt) progressive is a Lions den for a Constitutional Conservative, but at least we do listen to obstructionists dialogue while they try to shut ours down. SEE UC-BERKELEY. Admirable, aren't they? We didn't march & burn buildings down during communist born & communist raised Obama's train wreck of a presidency. It's called having class--a complete stranger to those apparently born in a barn; you know, like animals? Yet look at the entire list & cast of Democratic Party characters beginning with Weinstein & that list gets much, much longer & translates into a sad comedy. The Dems daily post-election crybaby behavior has caused them to lose the heartland of America who will never vote Democrat in your lifetime again. Every time they open their "resistance" mouths they lose another 10,000 votes so........just keep on talking, Pelosi, Schumer, Menendez, Franken (what a joke), Waters, Feinstein, Gov. Moonbeam Brown, etc, etc & a thousand more et ceteras. Am I still cute?

Does UNT have a buyout clause should OU come a'callin'? If so, how much? Agree. Should we ask why Hansen never got a national network job offer? GMG!

This Mean Green team I think will not read its newspaper clippings. For certain Mason Fine won't. He is one of the most well adjusted kids I've seen at his age. He takes all in stride. He even once said if he had a career ending injury he'd merely move onto being a coach. Amazing. β‘οΈ Denton, Denton County, UNT students & fellow UNT alums: Something special's going on up there! Don't let this train take off w/o you.

Record Fundraising Year for Athletics Department
PlummMeanGreen replied to dmaxel's topic in Mean Green Football
Now "THAT" kind of fundraising results is one of the most significant milestones many of us will have seen from the UNT Athletic Dept. for the decades many of us have followed. I rejoined the Mean Green Club last December & will re-up right before our bowl game this December. ππ "Things looking better all the time." (from the script of the movie "The Postman)." GMG! -
UNT receives largest gift bequest, recognizes top donors

I used to write checks for cash at Voertmans in 1972 & always bought my textbooks there. Mr. Voertman was always a nice gentleman every time I observed him. -
Social media is not the same as being (obvious) unemployed (except by Soros) street marchers who burned buildings down to the ground. That was all Deep State created tommyrot that persists to this day. I hope a Division or 2 of U.S. Marines don't eventually have to get in the faces of all those antifa types who would probably squeal like school girls & run home to mommy (or their therapist). Enjoyed the dialogue but done & moving on... GMG!

Scattershootin' Back At You From the Hip: You didn't see the almost solid Red Electoral College map on 11/9/16? The part of America that counts & puts candidates in the White House "IS" the majority. Sorry (back). Trump? He was my #18 choice out of 17 candidates but he's the president so I respect that. He will be effective in removing Marxists from having any future say about anything that concerns America & that a reason many voted for him plus the future Supreme Court. Obama? He was about 180 degrees polar opposite any Constitutional Conservative (as myself) or Republican but did you see us whining, crying, going apeshit nuts when he won twice? No, you didn't because it's all about one's "raisin' ", morals, values & principles. The distinction of the 2 parties in those areas couldn't be more plain for all to see. If Lying (lost in space) Hillary got her wish & there were no electoral college that would mean future campaigns would only be in CA, NY & TX & large Democrat-run disasters called cities. Hell, truth be told that's where Trump probably needs to build all his damn walls until the populous of such start acting more civil, especially toward each other. Yet with no Electoral College the rest of the country would get no say in any election. The Founding Fathers sorta knew what they were doing & also foresaw what future obstructionists might try to pull. Note: Observe the last 8 years under America's first communist born & raised president who'd tell a lie even when telling the truth would be so much easier. Did I mention his color at all here? No I didn't, but I'd still be called a racists anyhow in the Land of the Snowflakes where truth, justice & the American way are total strangers. The Dems leader's problems other than being childish, immature losers are they are more about themselves than Americans. They never have solutions that help every day Americans. Seems the whole world is watching their far left answers to everything almost daily. Some are probably amused. CLIMB EVERY MOUNTAIN, DEMS...but the mountain you'll never climb or receive votes are from the Evangelicals & Conservative Catholics. These 2 have galvanized as the largest voting bloc in America as to where the closest to the White House a Dem will ever get the rest of a Millennial's lifetime will be as a janitor.

Rather have an on-going system than a one hit wonder. Again, back in the 70's we used to play the UT Longhorns very competitively & you know none of our recruiting classes would have compared with Darrell Royals annual hauls.

Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award "Great Eight" list
PlummMeanGreen replied to brooks91's topic in Mean Green Football
Can we not have any threads on possibly losing our HFC? Pretty please? π Back in the day Boise lost about 6 HFC's in about a 14 year stretch but maintained their annual Top 25 program. I admire that program greatly. Sometimes even wish about 4 Texas CUSA schools were in their conference, but I'm in the minority on that idea, too. GMG! -
That is the best way to maybe get the State of Texas to help with some of the funding as in...."a multipurpose facility?" Have a few AM classes in the IPF to put the icing on that cake. Back in the day that is how you use to get some public funding help. Has that changed? GMG!

Now if we can just get the WBAP (TCU homers) morning guys to admit there is a local Metroplex university with almost 40,000 students & over a quarter million alums that ain't doing that bad on the gridiron. Also have a pretty fair QB, too. Don't hold breath? π -
