  1. UNT has rarely fared successful with the NCAA on such matters. I think if he's close to 100% for the La Tech game he should play because we will certainly need him for our bowl. Is it possible we get a better bowl game if we weren't Division champion? We shoot for that honor but golly what if they sent us to the Bahama's as West Division Champion? TCU's Amon Carter Stadium would look very nice filled with Mean Green fans. Filled? We know we get a total different fan base for North Texas bowl games per the HOD Bowl Game in 2013 & 2016. I am still impressed with the record-setting numbers of Mean Green fans for both of those bowls even as they were held on a week day to boot! GMG!
  2. Back in the SMU Mustang Mania days, to get 10,000 kids to an SMU game the Mustangs Promotions Director Brad Thomas (who had a full staff in his department) almost had to distribute 100,000 tickets. One time Smooo did that for a Texas Stadium game versus Baylor , but for reserved seats, and there were many duplicate tickets for the same seat, but all showed up. Baylor fans were getting pushed out of their seats & were (understandably) pissed. For a General Admission section like the Wing Section, it would not have assigned tickets per seat so there would be no problems. It would be first come first served. Early birds get the worm best seats. I would love to look at a filled Wing Zone than one empty and I believe most all us who pay for our tickets would too. Just sayin'...
  3. GOD BLESS OUR U.S. MILITARY VETERANS WHO FOUGHT IN THIS WAR SOME OF WHOM ARE MEMBERS OF GMG.COM
  4. Agree. At some point the newUNTStudent at the newDenton will ignore the past and just start supporting the team, but we do need to have more than 2 winning seasons every 10 years and like Mr. Durrett said, we need to beat a P5 team every once in awhile. I remember the TCU of the 70's when they were terrible & only time they had a decent "announced" crowd was when the Longhorns and Aggies came to Amon Carter Stadium. I thought they might drop football at one point. UNT could not get TCU to schedule us during the Abner Haynes era (1950's), the Mean Joe Greene era (1960's) and the Hayden Fry era (1970's ) & the reason is obvious but........... they very admirable came up with their TCU Your Home Team (or whatever they called it) & finally got Fort Worth behind them. GMG!
  5. Photo taken this AM by a Pulitzer Prize winning photographer who has a UNT degree.("not" on the Pulitzer Prize part) This is my Mean Green blackout wardrobe for the ODU game. It should be quite a fashion parade at Apogee this Saturday (I jest) 🙄 coupled with kids 8 & under who get in "FREE" if they wear a Halloween costume. If your still reading this you must be bored but............I went to Walmart this AM, bought an XL black FOTL sweat shirt for about $8. I already had the short sleeve Mean Green Nike nylon shirt and will wear it over my black sweatshirt. Pretty clever, I know. LOL! The Cap? That's my DJ business baseball cap but I'll try to have a black Mean Green baseball cap by Game Time! Yes, Hank. Jr.! I'm ready for some football! BEAT THE HELL OUT OF ODU!
  6. Ditto, Hunter Green, Ditto! Old story but before Fry took Iowa job they'd had (I believe it was) 20 losing seasons in a row but still sold out Kinnick Stadium all 20 years. That is what I call true college football fans who don't get on & off the Hawkeye bandwagon depending on which way the W/L wind blows. I honestly don't know who first started the culture at North Texas that supports the home team only when the Mean Green win. GMG!
  7. Army fans travel quite good for being based in West Point, New York. Texas area military installations I believe are usually contacted about this game. Not sure if that goes as far as Fort Hood. North Texas played Army at Texas Stadium years ago and they had a good following at that game. Their fans now know a bit more about North Texas from last year which I believe will increase their number of fans at Apogee Stadium on November 18. Plus..........Army recruits Texas and any time they get to play in the Lone Star State that is a plus for them. Many of our's favorite game against such teams is still the high-scoring Navy game during the Dodge era. The flyover from 4 jets from what used to be Carswell AFB in Fort Worth was very moving & a patriotic moment for many of us. GMG!
  8. A high of 60 degrees this Saturday in Denton, Texas, America according to Siri on my Apple 7+ iphone. Damn! That woman is smart! Granted, hours after the game is over it will get much cooler. GAME DAY MEAN GREEN BLACKOUT FASHION WEAR In the spirit of the dress code for this game, I just bought a black sweatshirt at Walmart ($8 + tax) & have a nice black short sleeve Nike nylon shirt with "North Texas Mean Green" in almost fluorescent lime green on it which I will wear over the sweat shirt. I'm getting pumped for what we will all witness with the newMeanGreen of the newDenton GMG!
  9. Go Astros!👍👍
  10. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
  11. North Texas.....35 ODU...................21 Nose Guard Bryce English "Star of the Spring Game" & DE Tillman Johnson play most the game & the Defense has a totally different look. * Please tell me the team doctor has given English the green light to play. GMG!
  12. Hey! I'm Mean Green Club member (re-upped 12/16) & didn't get one of those in my email! LOL! Kids (group) promotions who have access to school or church busses would escalate any goal of filling the Wing Zone. Yes, we pay for our tickets but why not fill that Wing Zone with whatever it takes to get kids galore inside our stadium & lets see how many of them become regular ticket buying customers when they grow up. Sure beats the hell out of an empty end zone section staring us down most games. Again per a former AD named Russ Potts: An empty seat cannot buy a hot dog, a coke, a school t-shirt or sweater & for darn sure can't yell for the home team. ____________________________ An empty seat will also never be a future ticket buying fan. Not much good ever comes from an empty stadium seat. GMG!
  13. I'll have such an alum at Apogee for the ODU game who was also my college roommate. This will be his 2'nd home game in a row--he's still talking about "The Drive" & didn't even flinch or change his mind about coming to the ODU game when I told him about the FAU disaster. Imagine: If we'd each brought a fellow alum or new fan with us for the UTSA game approximately 40,000 would have been the turnstile count at fabulous Apogee Stadium & the Denton Fire Marshall would have had a major cardiac. GMG!
  14. Anyone else think that our Mean Green " D" could ill afford to lose the likes of nose tackle Bryce English & defensive end Tillman Johnson (which we have thus far all season) & it not affect the performance of our entire defense? I know Johnson played some last game but is probably not full speed ahead at this time. Still, with those 2 back on the field doesn't our defense have a whole new outlook? GMG!
  15. As the old man in "The Green Mile" told his lady friend after he left "the mile" to work with teens & what his new motto became which was ...."Get em' while they're young." GMG, diehardUNTfan! 👍👍
  16. J. Wilson has to get the ball more for us to win these last few games--even ODU. He didn't really get the ball enough vs utsa. GMG!
  17. Says it all for many. 👍👍
  18. Enjoy the little things? We have talent that beat a school that's been schooling us in recruiting lately & has had our number since they opened for business. We beat USM in Hattiesburg & that is no small feat. In 1975 the year Okie' St. slaughtered us I think they were average as far as Big 8 schools go. Hellsbells! Mitch Maher & Company almost beat the Cowboys of Stillwater when we were 1-AA. Heck! Where am I going with this? 🙃 Nowhere! I'm hungry! Olive Garden here I come!🤢
  19. OK. The year we beat Tennessee & Houston in a most memorable year for many , I think we lost to Oklahoma State to the tune of 61-7. Many thought "great gobs of gooey gravy whats Fry doin' to us here in already his 3'rd year!"😡 I know FAU is no Okie' St. but sometimes a team with decent talent will still get its head handed to them on a silver platter in one "lost weekend" football game. GMG!
  20. I feel sorry for Ga. Southern. 🤔
  21. Excellent post, old friend. I loved the "Inherit the Wind" quote the most. SE & I are in 2 part harmony when it comes to UNT's past & future. (Also about how a college marching band with some tweaks can be such an exciting part of Game Day). Once SUMG & I sat in an AD's office after Corky was hired & to this day we joke about what he said. We were expecting (& hoped) to hear about some bright future plans for Mean Green football, but all we got that day from the AD was: "The whole future football schedule is "F'd up!" A funeral dirge would have matched our spirits as we walked out of the gents office & out of the Moody Athletic Building. GMG!
  22. And I suppose that Florida HS football is as heavily recruited by just about "everyone" as is the case here in the state of Texas. GMG!
