  1. Armed Forces Bowl. A 25 minute drive for me. I want us to show the Metroplex we can fill a stadium albeit wouldn't be ours.😳 GMG! I think a bowl that close to our fan base would also help close a few deals on some Texas HS recruits & (hopefully) 2 or 3 more JUCOS who could start for us next year.
  2. We old farts have seen everything at UNT & in Denton except childbirth (a variation of a Coach Bill Blakely quote). FLEAS!!!😧 methinks UNT attendance is tantamount to those "fleas in a coffee can" illustration as in.....no matter if we have 20K, 30K or a 40K enrollment the fleas keep jumping the same height; that is, we still stay the same in attendance. We have not had a normal progression of attendance growth as we continue to hang in there with about the same average attendance as 30 years ago--even when in 1973 Denton County had 99,000 population compared to about 800,000 today. A real bonafide conundrum one might say. Still those fleas keep jumping at the same height no matter what decade although someone took the lid off that coffee can years ago for there to have been a real golden opportunity for us to jump out of that can & be averaging twice as much at the turnstiles. Amazingly, many of us are still crazy enough to think this attendance problem can still have a Walt Disney'esque, warm fuzzy ending, but we will have to do something different than what we've been doing. πŸ₯‡WB's 4 for $60 Family Plan with all the percs for the next 2 games is a great start.πŸ‘πŸ‘ GMG!
  3. MUCH TO SAY--MUCH LESS TIME TO SAY IT. Only those of us who've been around this for well over 5 decades would understand what drex has said. Down voting his comment does not take away from the stark truth of it, either. When Fry left for the Big 10 he said our attendance was one of the reasons. We knew it would be. Probably a reason some of us still harp now about UNT pulling out all the stops for a game in & game out "large groups" promotions. Empty seats can be detrimental to a college football program in more ways than one. Many feel our Coaches & Mean Green football players need much larger audiences at Apogee. We've seen this show too many times before & we just don't want empty seats to be one of the reasons we lose those we'd like to keep on payroll as well as getting more 3 star & up recruits. We have coaches now who can apparently coach any level star recruits, but more 3 star & up blue chippers will get us to Top 25 rankings sooner. Still, Fry gave us teams that were exciting & were worthy of sellouts, but like SUMG has told me many times thru the years "with Fry we went into every game thinking we had a chance to win." Looks like Seth Littrell will soon have a similar accolade.πŸ‘πŸ‘ ➑️ Yes, Fry had his DFW media critics, too, of which one very sarcastically wrote that "he was one of the best Big Game coaches around" which hinted that he might slip on lesser known opponents. A Dallas Cowboys official was said to have told SMU powers that Fry wasn't doing a good job for the Mustangs overall football program & not soon after that was said--enter UNT officials President Jitter Nolan & Dr. Roy Busby who would be giving Fry a call. GMG!
  4. I suppose too early for game highlights? GMG!
  5. Frank Broyles is turning over in his grave no matter the results. How far that program has fallen. GMG!
  6. If our offense is not the high octane scoring machine every game I'm not sure who we can beat. How damn frustrating. Seems our years of not recruiting toward a great university and stadium is really catching up with us this Fall no matter what our record. (Thanks, McCarney). You have to recruit to have a defense, too. Who said offense wins football games (many times) but a great defense wins championships? GMG!
  7. No 5 year plan for Kiffin.πŸ˜— GMG!
  8. I am proud of dear old alma mater for coming up with this promotion designed to fill the Wing Zone with screaming kids & anxious parents. Would be curious to know how many non-UNT types get this promo's email. I did yesterday because I'm a Mean Green Club member & so they have my email. A promotion without legs is doomed from the git-go, but at least this 4 for $60 with percs is one helluva' superb start. Keep it ongoing every football season!πŸ‘ Way to go, WB & Staff!πŸ‘πŸ‘ GMG!
  9. Bravo! UNT Athletics! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ βœ… Put the Coca Cola Family Four Pack promo on your Facebook page to expand this promo to all your FB Friends & visitors. πŸ‰ IMHO, This "Family Plan" promo should be for every UNT home game every season until we start consistently filling the Wing Zone. Empty seats are expensive. πŸ‰πŸ‰ I wish UNT had a goal to chose "1" game a year where we pull out all the stops to make sure the WZ is SRO. Probably the home season opener would be best choice when you have all Summer to accomplish this "1" game goal just to show all it can be done? πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š A filled Wing Zone would add such synergy to our existing fan support we have yet to see at Apogee--especially if it were mostly (loud) kids & their parents.
  10. La Tech has a very tough schedule after UNT. Do we back in as West Division champion if we didn't beat the Dawgs? If so, is it possible we do not get as good a regional bowl as Division champion? Dawgs cant keep up with our high octane offense. Maybe Nose Tackle English returns? UNT............38 La Tech......31
  11. Of course, they won't by playing us. If not HOD, our crowd would look better in a sold out Armed Forces Bowl at Amon Carter Stadium. Not likely, though, if its Army in that Cowtown bowl game. Army must really like all this Texas exposure (for recruiting) they've been getting. GMG!

  13. WAR & PEACE (chapter ???)πŸ€” Subtitle: This attendance thing is still fixable. First, you cannot compare anything our students do with UT students or any similar because we've really never had a student body show for schools like UT students would show (en mass) for an ODU type of football program. Our constituency is like an aristocrat at a fancy restaurant as it peruses the menu (schedule) & picks the best part of the menu to make their order. I guess ODU was in the appetizer section of the menu for last Saturday night at fabulous Apogee Stadium where (give credit where it's due) UNT athletics have created a most entertaining Lights & Sounds stadium product.πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ (Of course, our football team is quite entertaining, too). Many of us have been following this for most of the last 40 plus years so maybe we have more than just a casual fan or novice's view on the subject of UNT attendance? It's been an ongoing problem. The most unfortunate part of our attendance woes during that time is how we've seen so many schools (once at the same level as UNT) zoom or go (one more time) ➑️ Beep! Beep! right past us with their impressive attendance numbers being a prime reason. In the last 40 plus years as our constituency numbers quadrupled we still (for the most part) stay the same with attendance. It's downright weird that such growth shows no dramatic visible results at our venue's turnstiles. 🀠🀠🀠🀠 I had a blast at the ODU game the other night, but the smallest turnout of UNT students I can ever recall seeing in over 4 decades of following Mean Green football threw a soppin' wet blanket on Game Day for many of us. My old college roommate (who is old) said the same thing about student support like....WHERE THE HELL ARE ALL THE STUDENTS?😳 😩 Like many of you, it bothers me most for our football team more than anything. It sure as hell doesn't affect my none-UNT related work-a-day world one way or the other. (See signature below about toy department). Our athletic staff at UNT will come & go, but I wish while here they would actually tackle our attendance woes with more than just an email campaign or "Y'all come now ya' hear." In the Metroplex, there are a thousand choices for the entertainment dollar. βœ… UNT may want to consider going off campus & outside the Denton City Limits & make attempts to get new fans at Denton County's various cities beginnning with Lewisville? Then work with each of those various city's powers that be with a goal of getting many of their respective citizens inside Apogee on Game Day. I don't think they'd be disappointed with what they see. Some others have said it, but attendance will most likely (& once again) be an important criteria for UNT & similar G5 schools to meet in the future NCAA so in Denton we need to try to find answers to our problems now rather than kick the can down the road for the next UNT Athletic administration to try to solve. Just sayin' what few others will but...I have very thick skin. GMG!
  14. It's a shame this game is not on DFW channels 27 or 33. It would get good ratings. Back in the 80's when UNT played UL-M on TV one Dallas Morning News sports reporter Cathy Harasta made a big deal out of the fact that North Texas had won the time slot when that game was televised. It was televised on ABC affiliate WFAA Channel 8. SUMG mailed that DMN blurb to me as we thought it was a pretty big deal & shot down those who said we couldn't command a TV audience in DFW. UNT QB for that UL-M game was Greg Carter of Richland HS near Fort Worth. We won the game. Hell yeah we did!βœ… GMG!
  15. We can make attendance excuses with the best of em but...ODU until recent years has been a basketball only school with zero football legacy. Homecoming will have a built-in crowd albeit I'll be DJ'ing a wedding & will miss the fun & some say Army will draw which is probably true. Methinks I won't live long enough to see us acting like a school our size concerning the attendance issue. If attendance ever becomes a criteria (again) on some future re- alignment will we be left at the train station (again) & will we see another school we were once at the same level go Beep! Beep! right past us? πŸ€¦πŸ½β€β™‚οΈ
  16. Our defense has 2 from the DL that have been MIA all season. Obviously, 2 key players that some of you during 2-a-days said were future stars. Probably a terrible comparison, but what would our 1968 defense have looked like without Joe Greene & Cedrick Hardman--2 NFL #1 draft choices. (Please Lord take us back to the good ol' days).πŸ˜‡ 2 or 3 key players off our 2017 defense can be devastating & it has been just that. After watching ODU almost beat WKU last weekend this game today worries the hell out of me. If we lose it puts our season into a total psychological tailspin that I'm not sure we overcome this season. (Probably over-reacting)?πŸ€”πŸ˜Œ GMG!
  17. What happened? They wanted that win more than we did so they went out & got it. They had a pretty good QB named Mike Romo & late CBS broadcaster Frank Glieber's son (Mitch) was a pretty good receiver. This: Amazing how the 'Stangs came back from a UH massacre (95-21) the previous week to beat what had to be a terribly prepared Mean Green football team. The Death Penalty still didn't stop SMU from out-recruiting UNT in most future years. For whatever all the (psychological?) reasons, it's a hurdle we can't seem to overcome. GMG!
  18. The game was at Ownby Stadium. It was the one loss after following Mean Green football since 1973 of which being totally disgusted I almost took my class ring off to throw it out on the football field. I didn't & then we beat SMU at Fouts the next Fall before a packed stadium with the game being televised with Merle Harmon & Allan Stone doing the broadcast. UNT QB Davis & RB Eric Pegram stole the show. The final play of the 1'st half was a blocked SMU field goal that ended in both teams emptying the bench for a neighborhood brawl. πŸŽžπŸ“€I gave a DVD copy of that game to the Beyond the Green folks who were going to digitize it. I hope they were successful.
  19. Friday noon update in Weatherford: Sleeting.😱 1:30 pm: sleeting continues Still... 🌞60 degrees🌞 all day Saturday in Denton. GMG!
  20. I think English will play some & they are trying to keep that under the radar. Not really sure why if that is the case. GMG!
  21. I watched that WKU/ODU on CBSSN last weekend & my first thoughts after the game was: Uh oh.😳 ➑️ This will not be an easy game. Our defense has to show up or we will all leave Apogee very disappointed. They need to play with wreckless abandon & swarm to the ball as if there is no tomorrow. Our fans really need to show up & be loud, especially on 3'rd downs. When the stadium announcer or graphic says "get loud" the πŸ—£vocal cords are much more effective than πŸ‘clapping hands. Just sayin'. GMG.
  22. Can we have a roving weather reporter in Apogee at kickoff giving us a ( every 15 minutes) weather' cast on how frigid each quadrant of the stadium is becoming? Many of us would be interested to know.πŸ€”πŸ˜³πŸ™„ GMG!
  23. Glossy or flat black?
  24. 🌞 Weather folks still predicting 60 degrees this Saturday in Denton so with a 5:30 pm kickoff in the sunlight won't it be close to 60 degrees? I can't fathom a 30 degree drop in temperature in the next 3-4 hours after the kickoff but.... it is Texas. GMG!
