From what I read somewhere AD Wren Baker keeps a running list of potentials in case we lose a coach. Most schools in the P5 & G5 are susceptible to losing a HFC to other programs except about 10-15 super programs. I still like Boise's past success in replacing HFC's when they lost about 4 in a 12 year period of time. As I recall, each new HFC still kept the Broncos in the Top 25. I though that uncanny if not remarkable. GMG!

One of our past UNT A.D. staffers whose a regular poster on GMG.com made a comment that a drop of rain or sleet could affect our attendance and we've all seen that happen in the past. Saturday weather? 70 degrees at kickoff! :) EagleMBA, this meme was sent to me by a lady friend from New Jersey whose now a full fledged Texan. She thought it was funny & I got a little chuckle out of it, too.

Original question: Did UNT get the pledged money because another alum told me we did not. I didn't believe him but was just curious to know (even all these years later). 😴

That fan was our dear friend Silver "pick up the damn pace, Green Brigade" Eagle! I witnessed that encounter with others & was never prouder of one of our alums for holding his ground. I looked over at Shanklin who was sitting nearby & grinning like a Cheshire Cat! GMG!

He has done great things for a part of Texas many of us were raised alright. Yet Is This An Urban Tale or Truth? Did he once pledge $1 million to UNT Athletics if we met his criteria to receive it & then pulled his pledge after we did? Someone please tell me that was merely a myth. I want to keep him on my Texas Heroes & Icons list. GMG!

So true on your last sentence, Jack, and that a prime reason we who have been around all this for half a century or more get so damn frustrated with the UNT athletic program no matter how many new faces who've worked in it , but who can't seem to come up with group promotions programs to hustle up significantly new fans. 💚 ATTENDANCE? It's a challenge up there that neither school officials or civic leaders in its home city seriously want to tackle. A problem that annually rears its ugly head & one that always seems to throw a wet blanket on any other semblances of success we'd have in any football season. 💚 We'll lose good coaches who will always mention attendance as one of the reasons it made it easy for them to leave Denton. 💚 Not sure I know of or have ever known any other similar program in the NCAA that has our enormous constituency that has stayed almost the same in the attendance department for as long. 💚 Most of our past we've so settled for less that it's become an easy habit. (We are not worthy)? 💚 Demand nothing--get nothing, but on the subject of attendance we need to double demand someone finally start tackling this problem that has kept UNT athletics from advancing into better conferences like so many of our former conference-mates of decades-past. ❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓ Question: If the MWC suddenly had a great P5'esque TV package, became a coveted commodity & wanted a Texas presence, who would they pick? Would it be a 7 year old NCAA football program like UTSA who (like them or not) acts Big Time based solely on who they have (impressively) scheduled as home games in the Alamodome in the last few years or..........a 100+ year old football program like UNT who was "promised" a home schedule of impressive P5 schools like UTSA's once Apogee was complete? GMG!

Pretty well sizes things up on that subject.

Word was that Bob Tyler had letters of recommendation for our HFC's job from Bear Bryant & Darrell Royal. Guess our Athletic Committee could not ignore those 2 heavyweight's approval of Tyler. Here in Texas we call that the Coach's good ol' boy network. There are none stronger.

Going to Ruston & taking the CUSA West Division title away from the Dawgs I hope begins a long over-due era of beating La Tech out of Lone Star State & maybe a few more Louisiana recruits, too. They been schooling us for years on that subject. (See overall W/L results for proof & what has been illusive for UNT--their having some wins over some impressive P5 school football programs, too, like one located in Tuscaloosa)? 🤕 Just sayin' more truth, that's all. Think how many more people would see that promo if each on GMG.com did that? 😱 4 for $60 with all its listed percs? Jeez, can a family of 4 do any better than that when loading up & going to a movie with $10 popcorn & $5 each for a Coca Cola? Obviously, the answer is no, they cannot. I just hope the above colorful poster grows many more legs & makes it to thousands of DFW area & Texas household's emails. Maybe a Facebook campaign would guarantee that it would? UNT Athletics can only do so much--maybe it's us the fans & alums who need to take up the slack when we can? GMG!

2 winning seasons every 10 yrs has reared its ugly head again with our favorite college. When it's 8 winning seasons every 10 hrs that will almost cure cancer for us.

It's called a "mystique" city. Once lived in one of those myself near Waikiki Beach. San Francisco is another such city.
