  1. I had met the snake charmer back in the day right before we moved to the Super Pit. For the life of me, I cannot remember his name now, but one of my old Yuccas had a picture of him with that snake at the old Men's Gym. We were in a pretty decent Missouri Valley Conference basketball league at that time. Part of that era's last team before we moved to the Super Pit included players like Stan Blackman, Ken Bailey and Bobby Iverson. Iverson was a great basketball talent we got snake bit by the Jehovah Witnesses as he wanted to join that religion's mission program full time so he dropped out of North Texas. Bobby Iverson could have easily been 1'st team Mo' Valley and to be 1'st team in that league was a pretty big deal. GMG!
  2. This would be the best of all. KSU vs UNT. 60,000 in the Cotton Bowl Stadium. GMG!
  3. ww, only if the 4 CUSA Texas schools + La Tech could go as a package deal would the MWC make sense (and probably cents). That problem means no one is going anywhere soon. Best thing the MWC has going for it are several schools that have been in the Top 25 thru the years. The "new" CUSA since we've been a member just 1 school, ie, the one we play for the CUSA championship game. My O my if we could win that game. Just my .02. GMG!
  4. True On my Mean Green Christmas wish list is that UNT athletics in the near future will concentrate on promotions that would fill the Wing Zone for the 1'st game of every season. Then once filled and all see how young fans in that part of the stadium add an immeasurable amount of crowd noise to what we have now that they will fully concentrate on getting their 4 for $60 Family Plan (with all its percs) into the homes of as many in Denton County as they can & lets see the results. me'thinks not that many now know about the Family Plan. GMG! PS: IDJ & usually play at least one song from the UNT Green Brigade's CD from a few years ago at most events. Last Saturday night it was their rendition of "National Emblem" for a Veterans Day event that I played. I missed Homecoming because of that event at the 7R Ranch outside Gordon, Texas, but will not miss the Army game this Saturday! Matter a fact, I already have my tickets for that big game in my auto's glove compartment. (Is it still called glove compartment)? I'm old. .
  5. I'd feel cheated that a bowl game would not be able to hold 30,000 plus area UNT bowl fans, AustinFromUNT; that's how I'd feel. But like the great Darrell Royal said concerning another theme: "OLD UGLY'S BETTER THAN OL' NOTHING."
  6. Visitors to Harry's board may not know that Roy Orbison, Don Henley and Meatloaf are all 3 UNT alums. Only thing I'd ever have in common with Henley is that Dr. Richard Sale was a favorite professor. He was a Johnny Carson look-alike and one helluva' teacher. I had great professors at North Texas, liberal or conservative. Some things you just don't let cloud your minds ability to learn. I love all my liberal friends and relatives. How could you not? My religion tells me to love all.
  7. What our players do is act like those 2, 500 fans are pulling for the Mean Green, right?
  8. Very large. We were luck to get the Liberty Christian property when we did, though. Not all that happened under RV was bad, folks. GMG!
  9. That Athletic Center deck is huge & would add another 500-1,000 fans to our stadium capacity. (1,000 would look like sardines I suppose). Very impressed with what La Tech did with their end zone facility.
  10. I was listening to national Fox News on my Sirious car radio this morning & they mentioned this story, but said that it had happened at the University of North Texas. UNT should send them a note asking them to correct that & tell them it did not happen on our campus. Anyone else remember the fancy multi-story hotel in Kansas City years ago when something similar like this happened? Yet in that tragedy limbs were found in various spots where the floor had fallen on party go'ers and many died. Our UNT students were very blessed this last Saturday night that no one died. Matter of fact, almost a miracle that no one did.
  11. tomato juice, vodka and a stalk of celery?
  12. Getting accustomed to our Texas weather (and recruiting), eh? LOL! I tell you one thing, yall are one hot ticket & Army may very well be participating in the largest crowd in Apogee Stadium history. Game Day Weather @ Apogee Stadium This Saturday: Blue skies & approx. 65 degrees at the 5:30 pm kick-off. A West Point Salute: One of my Danbury, Texas (SW of Houston) fellow HS football alums played for Army. We were tickled when he got the call from the Texas Congressman who recommended & sponsored him for a West Point appointment. Most all will give the Cadets & their fans a Texas-friendly welcome in Denton this Saturdaay and some of us will politely applaud your team when they come out of the Apogee tunnel onto the field, but after the kick-off---no more playing nice! One of the best Fouts Field (our former stadium) memories for many of us was when Navy came to Denton. The UNT Green Brigade Marching Band's last few measures of the Star Spangled Banner were probably the fastest played in national anthem history. (They were trying to hurry up the end of the song before the 4 fighter jets from over here at Fort Worth flew over-----it was almost funny, right Silver Eagle)? Look forward to seeing the Mean Green playing an opponent I like & respect & where most know our tax monies are being wisely spent. Have a safe trip if your coming down, BeatNavy. BeatArmy!
  13. Exactly.🤠 Upon further review, the opponent is as important as our bowl choice. In that case, HOD would probably give us our best opponent. HOD again? I remember while a kid in the Houston area when the Bluebonnet (then later Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl) was the only bowl game the UH Coogs could get an invite. Winning it a few times helped them to eventually get an SWC invite. Get bowl game--win bowl game. GMG!
  14. Agree. The NO's Bowl in the early 2000's was a nationally televised fan-builder for the MG football program. A UNT/ULL game would be a regional televised winner. A bowl game with a more national program would be better (and I'm sure ULL would say the same) but those kind of matchups are in the hands of the bowl people. CbL, I suppose my main problem with this is that after we beat UTSA (and "assuming" they end up in Fort Worth, ) it will be the SA Beep! Beeps! who will be the DFW area recruiting winner. Our recruiting, Censored by Laurie, still needs some improvement on an annual basis. If we could have solid recruiting every year, then we would not have these 2 winning seasons every 10 year droughts. Littrell shows more promise in stopping that modus opp than anyone we've had lately. Hope he stays around to pull it off. Peace and...GMG!
  15. Our best defensive lineman (English) if we can go by the Spring Game will still not play. Our "D" is better since we last played FAU. In my heart of hearts, I think this game will be closer because all our younger players now have almost a year of D1 football under their belt & playing like it. We've had some players step up on our Defensive line and linebacking crew since our last game with the Panthers (it is, Panthers, right)? What the hell are 2 schools 1,000 miles apart & at the G5 level doing being in the same conference, anyway? If TV revenue stays off the table, then 4 Texas CUSA schools need a new conference. FAU will not have the easy game they had earlier, either. Law of averages? With our offense line doing better & our overall offense runnning full throttle with even more confidence, FAU may be in for the kind of game they willl not be expecting. I mean come on now, this would not be the 1980 Russia/USA ice hockey miracle if we win the game. It's FAU--not to be confused with Alabama. GMG! PS: How does Kiffin get done what he's done in so short of time? Should the controversial "self edifying" HFC's recruiting practices be checked out? You don't have a CUSA school in the Top 25 this soon, folks except for the fact that...FAU is in the Top 25. (Think the Kiffer made a few strategic calls to those who vote)?
  16. So it's possible that as Conference-USA West Division Champion we don't get a bowl game that could be considered conducive to our maximum fan support, but UTSA gets a bowl game in our backyard (Armed Services Bowl) & gets the recruiting percs that will come with that? What a damn revolting development of bullshit that could become if it materializes that way. I know New Orleans is a destination "mystique" city & Albuquerque has its uniqueness, but what do they do for our fan base most of whom will not travel to the tune of approx 30,000 plus fans as we'd understandably do in DFW) & what about our recruiting (which is mostly) Texas? We don't seem to be recruiting Louisiana to where it would help being at the NO's Bowl. If we don't get a Texas-based bowl game, New Orleans would probably be the best consolation prize. Anyhow, a bowl game is a big deal no matter where it would be but as Division Champ it seems we could do better as it relates to the entire University & Mean Green family? Just sayin' what others are thinking (or soon will be). GMG!
  17. Many of us were shocked when Tech hired Jerry Moore after only 2 years at UNT with a .500 record. Jerry showed he was a great coach at Appalachian State; not so much in Lubbock. The main bugaboo the boys downtown or the proverbial UNT nesters had with Moore is how he took some pretty good leftover Hayden Fry talent & made it average trying to become a Nebraska 2.0. GMG!
  18. Well, LaLa Land won Best Movie then they un'won it? GMG!
  19. Ditto. Whose to say Army doesn't get moved around since that seems to happen with these bowl games? It would be a DFW area recruiting boon no matter who we play. These kids don't care who we play at the bowl level. GMG!
  20. Will we top Homecoming attendance? Will we top the U of Houston Cougars Apogee Grand Opening attendance? Will we sell the whole damn thing out? Hey! We don't get many games at the moment to have a real chance at a sellout so why not get a little excited about all the hoopla? GMG! PS: Was DJ'ing a Veterans Day event last evening at the 7-R Ranch outside Gordon, Texas, so I missed Homecoming, but wild horses won't keep me from the Army game! _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ The Coca-Cola Family Four Pack is the best deal going for this Saturday for a those going to the Big Game! This Friday until the Ticket Office closes is the deadline to get in on this superb package UNT Ticket Office: (940) 565-2527 or 1-800-UNT-2366
  21. A little sensitive for a Yankee, aren't you. I called Blue states "BROKE." You ever had a broke back injury? I just like fellow alum Larry McMurty's word "broke-back" that's all. Not implying anything gay....or you? Didn't know Dems could be so sensitive except after getting their asses kicked by a political novice & newcomer like Trump. Damn, how did HIllary lose to him anyway? You think America is onto your party's record of the last 8 years; you know, when the Dems lost almost 1,000 seats coast-to-coast? I think your party has been found out for what it is, Censoried by Laurie. Maybe you ought to go back to subjects that people in Texas & the RED STATES give a damn about because ol boy, we don't care about themes that come from Broke-Back Blue States or your neck of the woods. Get it?
  22. For crissakes, you tell me celebrating a win in a Hillary Blue Brokeback State is supposed to be a world-wide referendum for political change? LOL! Only a "never to assimilate to U.S. values" part of their constituency would buy into that! Still, that just shows how desperate Libs are to find something or anything to celebrate. Look who inundates their party like cock roaches who fall into your bowl of cereal. Begin with Al "is that the best you got, Minnesota" Franken, Chuck "Plugged Hair Follicles & Ain't I One Smooth-Talkin' Sum'bich" Schumer, Nancy "what drug you on today that has you so damn spaced out" Pelosi, 120 year old Diane "do I tell them I pack heat or not" Feinstein, Maxine "IMPEACH EVERYONE INCLUDING JESUS" Waters who was overhead telling a friend "Jeez, I hope they don't check me out too close to see I have 4 mansions & just who paid for them." After 8 years the best long-lasting part of Trump's presidency won't be about any major legislation he had to lie to the American people to get passed, but rather what he will do to top-load the Supreme Court with so many Constitutional Conservative Supremes that Lib politicians will think they're at a Billy Graham Crusade revival meeting the rest of their political terms. Libs stopped trying to solve everyday American's problems a long time ago. Look at what they major in doing to America (w/o the luxury of jars of Vaseline to pass around to all). Pretty pathetic, isn't it? Now they spend most their time trying to find dirt on opponents & every little thing which that opponent has done from birth so they can do their favorite Chicago Community Organizer, one, Saul Alinsky's "isolate and demonize" best on that opponent. (For heaven's sake, are Democratic Party politicians all descendants from that group of 1700's citizens in Salem, Massachusetts, or what)? Conservative's sins may find them out from time to time & that is a good thing, but Lib's sins never seem to so apparently they are squeaky clean or at least to the Washington Post they are. Alabama Republican Senate candidate Moore needs to drop out immediately if he's guilty of sexual improprieties with a minor. Still strange is how all this is suddenly an alleged issue 30 days before election day? Most all tax-paying Americans will not defend those whose allegations go from speculation to full blown truth. Then that other arm of the Democrat/Soros/Marxist Party of America, ie, the Washington Post will then proceed to write volumes about it until they've destroyed another American, but what the Washintong (com)Poste still' won't do is write anything about Bill & Hillary Clinton's "where there's smoke there are scandals" with that couple that would fill as many books as would volumes as a set of old World Book Encyclopedias. I think the Red Electoral State voters of last November are onto the Washington Post, CNN, MSNBC and the like & know how that group always seems to roll. Blue vs Red States is a perfect example of an extremely unbalanced America---economically, politically & socially. My money says in 25 years the Red States will tell the Blue State to take a hike saying: "We've had enough trying to help you fund your "self-serving" Socialism (communism) bridges to nowhere programs---now you all can go it alone and on your own show the entire world how not even so-called progressives could not make that ideology work which would have been for the first time in world history if it had. GMG!
  23. The way ESPN or whoever is in charge of Bowl matchups changes teams around, I hope theyd get us a different opponent than Army & put us in the Armed Services Bowl. Far less empty seats at ACS than Fair Park. New Orleans Bowl matchup is interesting, too, if it's U of Louisiana Rajun Cajuns as the opponent. Instant crowd. GMG!
  24. Pull the plug? 🙄 Remember that old thread from yester-year, GMG.com veterans? Part of me is sad to see this at any school in Texas--even SCHMOO. Getting mellow in my old age, I guess. GMG!
