Army Game Score Prediction Thread
PlummMeanGreen replied to greeneagle1's topic in Mean Green Football
Army will pop a couple long runs for TD's, but Mason Fine, Jeffery Wilson & the Triplets go bonkers (again) before a humongous & VERY loud crowd at fabulous Apogee Stadium. Quickness, Athleticism & Coaching Rules the Day! UNT.......42 ARMY....24 GMG! -
I alway thought 35K would have been a good initial capacity, UNTFan23. I was real excited when we built what we thought was our first indoor Olympic-sized pool at UNT in the old PEB until we discovered it was 1 foot shy. Seems we've too many times been 1 foot shy at UNT. Seems short term success lasting 2 years would turn into the next 8 years having few wins & turning into fan-eliminators. A new BB venue at the Mean Green village would eliminate many UNT students w/o cars who can now (conveniently) walk from Kerr Hall to the Super Pit; but how far a walk is it from Kerr Hall crossing over the I-35E Pedestrian Bridge into the MG Village for a basketball game (and during the colder part of the year to boot)? The battle of OldDenton vs NewDenton continues. If we'd schedule for basketball as UTSA (most admirably) schedules Big Boys for football we'd get to use that upper part for all to see on TV. ✅ More SMU's in UNT's future basketball schedules--less John Wesley State U's. Its really hard for all of us to break our OldDenton mode of stinkin'-thinkin', especially for those in my age group--the Baby Boomers. GMG!

Don't Want To Spill The Beans, But Look Here

Can't wait to see that, Professor. GMG! -
Who started this trend of universities that are growing insanely out of their borders reducing the capacity of any future venue? Have Big Car--Will Travel (with) Small gas tank? How far will that big car go with a small gas ⛽️ tank? A big exciting trip to NCAA D2 or D3 ? I think this trend of "we big but think small (ain't we progressive)" needs to go the way of the dinosaur. Hope we don't get stuck with a 5-6,000 seat BB arena. We have to act like we will one day have an NCAA Division 1 BB program that will be better than the one we've had the last 40 years, don't we? Our athletic program in any of our past decades has ultimately been all about who we hired. Venues don't win games--coaches and their recruits, do. Yes, the Super Pit was really too large for most of those 40 years alright but look at the roller coaster ride our BB program has been on during that time? Note: Some of us sat in the Super Pit one evening when we had 10,700 fans show for an SMU/UNT game. I didn't say in a non-interesting matchup with John Wesley State U, but rather--S...M...U! 💚You know it & I know it--UNT dropped the scheduling & HBC's hirings ball the last 40 years-- the 10,000 seat Super Pit had nothing to do with that. It just sat there sitting pretty all those years shaking it's head saying--WHY ME? 🤔 (Didn't know the Super Pit could think & talk, did you)?😳 If we base everything on the past (OldDenton) then we're screwed & will continue to receive odd looks by those in the DFW work place & our Texas intercollegiate peers who are in the Big 12 and the AAC. We really don't need to continue to do that to ourselves, do we? Time to build perception. Joseph P. Kennedy once told Jack and Bobby: "Perception is reality---it's everything." A 45-50,000 enrollment UNT with a 6,000 BB arena will not advance this program & would draw snickers in the Lone Star State we live. Rest assured some presently on this "build it smaller" bandwagon would eventually be asking: "Why in God's Name did we build it that small?" (Notice I didn't & would never use an "F" bomb in that question)? Can anyone possibly look past our past and past their noses? Use that good college education to think forward--not backwards. We don't want to be like those damn rabbits & become a receding hare line 💚Yet here we go again--it's OldDenton vs NewDenton. OldDenton with a few remnants & relics of our teacher's college mindset that (all these years later) is still among us & (seemedly) will not go down without a fight. When you see empty seats at future varsity sporting events--you'll see that OldDenton is still among us. (To be fair & balanced--we DFW area North Texas Exes have to shoulder our part of the blame, too). ⬇️Trending downward in anything is not what we want at North Texas because haven't we (forever) "been there--done that?" 💚Put some major bucks back into the Super Pit. A good engineer and an architect will show us how just like they showed Eddie Sutton and Okla. State how to (literally) raise the roof, add seats & refurbish a much older Gallagher/Iba Arena. 💚Let the experts show us how Luxury seats can even be added to the Super Pit. That done by using serious monies that would have built a new 6,000 venue that would be further away from the dorms & completely on the wrong side of Interstate 35-E. ➡️ Think about the UNT students living on the east (of I-35E) part of our campus--not hot new trends that might be as short-lived as a One Hit Wonder. GMG!

WHY ALL THE ATTENDANCE TALK TO A LEVEL OF AD NAUSEAM AT TIMES? HERE'S WHY? Many of us on this forum played Texas HS football and we're still playing it, but through these young men who wear the Mean Green. My first 3 years (frosh were eligible) our team was mediocre, our W/L record worse & the crowds after the home season opener would dwindle. It was depressing to us that our own home town fans did not care to show up. My Senior year we turned our football program around with a winning season. Our town of 900 would somehow grow to 2,000 on Friday Nights at our stadium. Our team noticed the support & we played with some extra adrenaline it seems. Nevertheless, it all translated to wins. Our Mean Green football players were ecstatic & fully appreciated last weekend's crowd. First thing Seth Littrell said in his post-game remarks was about the great attendance & fan support. It's a numbers game at the turnstiles & the best college football programs all wear their turnstiles out. GMG!

The next 2 years- Setting up the future
PlummMeanGreen replied to TheColonyEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Agree... (and more utterly ridiculous lagniappe) This video below became our new school song after that vaunted 1981 season with Bob Tyler as our '1" year HFC; as you'd recall, we had 4 games in the Cotton Bowl (2 during the State Fair) & a few at venerable Fouts Field when I believe we even played Southern Miss in "the rain storm of the century." LIke George Derr was telling a few of us huddled up at the HOD Bowl pre-game gathering last December: "Heck, guys, there was a time at our games when all our fans were on a first name basis!" :) Yes, drex ol' pal, this became many of the faithful few's new school song albeit me'thinks Happy Times are here, but on a higher scale than any of us from any era have seen. I suppose many of us never lost complete hope? (We need decades of winning & playing some teams that will help us become a Top 25 fixture). Addendum: Great post, TheColonyEagle! -
I am bringing an extra person. It will be his 3'rd game this season which is something he hasn't done since he was a UNT student in the 70's. GMG!

I'll be 67 next week. I know, I look 45 but feel 75 at times. So..... I'll use that as my excuse, but problem is that I've been a rambling (and a ramble on and ramble on) sort of guy most my adult life. Maybe almost a half century of allowing Mean Green athletics to be "the toy dept. of my life" has had some effect? me'thinks it has (some). I guess the rest is DNA, albeit my late parents were quiet, salt of the earth types & wonderful people. I miss them every day of my life. GMG.com is my cyber man cave where I hang out (like a sports bar) and express a few HSO's. I do listen to others, respectively, though, even when we agree to disagree. Peace. GMG!

Agree. Who we trying to emulate by having a smaller BB venue? UTA? :( Some of us here were at the Super Pit's grand opening & finding it difficult to accept that its become dysfunctional. I think about $20 million sunk into it would make if functional. You couldn't put numerous luxury suites around the top perimeter of it, too? A good engineer and architect can do anything. Ask Eddie Sutton who was at OSU how they raised the roof of Gallagher to make it happen for Cowboys basketball. Today's Fort Worth StarTelegram headlines were (and I loosely paraphrase) "TCU To Spend $100,000,000 on Amon Carter Stadium Luxury Suites. (I suppose the plumbing will all be gold-plated, too)? Wonder if that will be worth it all when UT and OU leave the B12 & they go....Mountain West?

'Those who showeth at the Saturday Apogee joust will have'th a great'eth time. (Billy Shakespeare). GMG!

Not really sure how the UNT Athletic site and its virtual tour of available tickets at Apogee works. For instance, there are more seats showing to be available now than there were last Sunday night. I grabbed the only 2 available together in Section 208 on Sunday night but looking yesterday there are more seats (still not that many) available in Section 207. So I could have been closer to the 40 yard line than the 30 I purchased tickets for. Hell, I'm just glad to be inside the stadium around fellow Mean Green fans truth be told, but there should be more clarity on what tickets are really available at all times. ...OR IS THIS WHAT HAPPENED? Maybe its a Ticketron type service returning tickets to North Texas creating a few more seats in each Section? I still think all those will be sold out by Game Day this Saturday. Those of you still wanting to buy sideline tickets may (still) want to purchase those online "today" & a very responsive UNT ticket staff over at Apogee will email to you an attachment allowing you to print your tickets at home. How cool all this modern technology, right? (Only a Baby Boomer would say something like that, right)? LOL! Again...We haven't had too many games like this of late so why not get excited just a little bit about this one? GMG!
-
I think Saturday is going to be a blast. DG! Hey! You have an extra ticket? I know (and you know) someone who could use it if you do. He's changed his mind & wants to come to this game. I've already purchased 2 on about the 30 yard line. Old college roommate will be attending with me. GMG!

An old buddy and fellow UNT alum told me today K-State would bring more fans than Tech. I don't know about that. Not sure Tech gets bowl eligible with who they play their next games with. GMG!

Texas A&M prepared to pursue Jimbo Fisher
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
When down the road we find ourselves looking for another HFC (and it does happen, you know); anyway, we have set a respectable HFC's salary plateau that would entice someone like a Kevin Sumlin (who I agree with Harry inasmuch as >>>>> I don't think Sumlin's HFC'ing days are done, either. GMG! -
This below mostly for Newbie UNT fans on GMG.com who may think they'd have to take chances on buying tickets early in the week & then (hopefully) getting your tickets in the mail well....that M.O. is a thing of the past. 17 UNT FB Seniors will graduate in 2017
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
And our Seniors & their parents will receive special recognition at this Saturday's Army game. GMG! -
That would outdraw the KSU HOD projection by about 10,000 more fans to the tune of about, uh, 70,000? I know, pretty big numbers for the day after Christmas, but easily the curiosity of this game would have UNT bringing about 40,000 Mean Green fans to the Red Raiders 30,000? It would be a fun day of Big Time college football I would hope one year we could translate & project it all back to Apogee Stadium. Would be nice to get more P5's into Apogee as promised before it was completed. (I know, easier said than done, but we only have to look toward the AlamoDome to see that it really can be done). GMG!
