  1. Nevermind last season’s win, but UTSA has slowly been passing us by in football while we’ve been on our usual football sabbatical. I do think that will be short-lived, but we do have some catching up to do at the Apogee turnstiles. Having a big destination city & a big stadium in it can make a difference—ask UH’ers from the mid-1960’s when the Coogs began their NCAA march upward. I got to see all that firsthand. UNT is still in the game, but we have to do some things very different (& I think our UNT leadership more than knows that, too). ONE DAY, EH? GMG!
  2. The West O Plex/West Fort Worth has no broadcast coverage on the map. I really wish KDNT 1440 AM was still in the possession of one in Denton County. It was purchased by Latinos years ago. 1440 AM covered Mean Green football & basketball in the 70’s.
  3. Some interesting stadium rankings for the future new American Athletic Conference & others UNT was once in a conference. •••One Texas university located 30 miles from Austin was ranked way too high IMHO. Makes one think one of those doing these rankings must have attended school there. •••SMU’s G. Ford Stadium once they finish their Gary Weber End Zone Facility will jump up in these rankings which presently has Apogee ranked ahead. •••Apogee Stadium got a better ranking than these polls usually ever give it. A south end zone facility will one day dramatically improve its rankings, too. https://roadtocfb.com/2022/03/05/ranking-college-football-stadiums-2022/?noamp=mobile#respond
  4. My Mama did. Let’s see now…We had as much of a chance vs SMU that those fenced-in deer had to escape getting shot by the deer hunters? (I did qualify it as a terrible illustration). Hey! I’m 72 in November & am not dealing very effectively with another sacred institution (at least to me) like the NCAA follow the way of every other federal agency in the DSA (Divided States of America).
  5. Things can always be worse—even for the local darlings. I got to watch the UH football & basketball program grow firsthand from nothing to a seat in the Southwest Conference & do that in record time. I (as a few of you) always wanted UNT to emulate UH yet they’ve joined a major conference twice in my lifetime. We haven’t. https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1989-10-22-sp-1005-story.html We should not be ready to concede anything to SMU because they had to have their favorite scenario of recruits/transfers to the NCAA ‘s version of bribery to get what they had & what we saw at Apogee the other night. ••• Notice how SMU’ers perked up when they realized the full meaning of NIL? Hell, they could pay players legally to love their school & with a 12 team playoff their not getting in a P5 conference would no longer break their program (or spirit) even as a G5 school. (We know all about broken spirits at North Texas, don’t we? Hang around all this for 50 years & you will too—hopefully just not as much as we senior Nestor’s. For us at the present time, the Stangs really did pile misery on top of misery last Saturday at Apogee. Perhaps just as UNT demolished SMU in 2018 which caused them to change their entire philosophy in recruiting; so maybe last Saturday’s embarrassment will now cause UNT to do some much needed tweaking of our own. GMG!
  6. …solve our present problems or get us instantly competitive in today’s NIL market place or take the sour tastes out of most our attitudes today but —lopsided scores do happen to many programs. G. Ford Stadium (just north of Denton) NAVY—75 SMU—-31 gmg
  7. But, Phil, did cuzzin’ Guido think they were salty? 🙄 🙂 I deleted the KSU thread which expressed my views of what I feel I was actually watching the other night. I used to know some people on the golden Gulf Coast who had their acreage fenced off & in season they hunted their deer who were captives inside that fenced-in acreage. Terrible illustration but some will get my drift.
  8. TOO EARLY TO TALK UTSA BUT… I watched the UTSA/UH game today. I’ll watch it again. •••First of all, UTSA is no SMU. They’re not. •••Secondly, I still think UNT will match up very well with UTSA with our running game just as we did last November. ••• Our offensive line matched up very well last season & this season our present younger offensive line backups will be mature by the time we take the trip to SA. That will help our coaches keep ‘em’ fresh throughout the game. •••We’ve beaten UTSA (what is it)—4 or 5 times in a row now? We seem to have their number & did with last season’s team just like UAB seems to have our number. •••We played in front of a loud Sun Bowl crowd with an on the road win. Granted, UTEP is no SMU, either, but winning on the road in our past has many times been a challenge. IMPORTANT QUESTION: Is it just me or does Coach Traillor(?) look like a smart aleck to any of you fellow Nestors? 😳 (Maybe he’s not). GMG!
  9. I want to reply & say—AMEN! We have much when we think we have so little. GO MEAN GREEN—STILL OUR TEAM (& why wouldn’t they be)?
  10. Some of us Old Nestor’s might tell you how many schools we’ve seen pass us by the last 50 years, but we don’t want to be responsible for mass suicides.
  11. I told 2 people on GMG 3 years ago to “watch out for utsa.” They have a big stadium & a big destination tourist city & when they start winning—watch out. In fact, they so remind me of UH in 1965 when the Coogs moved to the Astrodome. UH had a large stadium & a big city. That’s when my teenage years favorite college team started making hay all the way to SWC membership. I like UNT’s future & our enrollment & thus alumnus forecast is still key to that. Just add winning & someone will at some point. It’s inevitable. Only a hater would think otherwise. GMG
  12. Fans come—fans go. The better ones won’t let one game do it for them. That speaks more loudly than the SMU loss itself. OH NO! AGAIN? When Hayden Fry first took the Big 10 Iowa job he almost broke down when he started describing the Hawkeyes fan base who filled Kinnick Stadium “20” losing seasons in a row many times in snow & ice. . I said —20 losing seasons in a row. 🤬Hell yeah we’re all pissed today. I want to hit somebody! We were majorly embarrassed last night. Losing is painful, but losing our dignity would be worse. AND……Didn’t Wren Baker hire & keep Grant McCasland? He’s also trying to raise $40 million to get a facility most all in the AAC already have. $40 million? He told KingDL1 & I that firsthand at Tony’s Big Balls Tailgate. GMG
  13. TSU, Wheeler Street, Houston, Texas. Just down the street from UH. Glad we schedule a team from the SWAC. Hope they bring their very entertaining marching band.
  14. Well, I know one of our best all time Mean Green fans stayed home to watch the game on TV. If he would do that, I think others would too. Who cares now—game is over.
  15. I knew where we were after the AAC’s UH Coogs last visited Apogee Stadium. Most of you did to I would think.
  16. Should have been a sellout, but a CBSS telecast of the game probably kept that from happening. “In your hearts you know I’m right.” (Barry Goldwater, 1964) In the 2’nd quarter I was walking under the stadium to let some steam off & prepare myself for what I feared was fixen’ to happen in this game & the scene I saw shocked me. There was an army of people still standing in line outside the wrought iron gates to get inside Apogee well into the 2’nd quarter. 🤗Crap! What happened? Did they think it was a 7:30 pm kick-off?🤔 After all were finally inside the stadium official attendance was announced as 25,306. (I know the usual group will say there were only 10K ). Still, the Wing Zone looked like we never want it to look like. Yet after reading GMG all last week you’d think we should have damn well forfeited the game. We are a battered fan base, but our bruises are all internal. (Dr Phil! Where are you)? ▶️ At North Texas, we let any SMU game of any season dictate how we feel about sex in general, our family dog, quality (or lack thereof) of our hair cuts & the state of our country. Look how many today want to jump ship because a school who had 17 friggin’ P5 transfers kicked our ever’lovin’ arses with a brand new team even SMU fans had to have a roster list to identify their latest new heroes. SMU pulled on us what we pulled on them in 2018. We just don’t get enough of those & with NIL (an SMU fantasy come true)...will we ever? ❇️ Still Green (but disappointed in the results that I feared in my heart would happen).
  17. Probably the main difference tonight was 17 P5 transfers going to SMU. All power to them— it’s all legal now. It’s a regular heaven-sent nirvana for Pony’ville. Imagine? You can have a complete new football team from one school year to the next. Money & outstanding black football players to their historical lilly white campus is what SMU does best. They have thatc formula down pat. Also, might SMU send another secret recruiter to the Mean Green Village & start smuuuzin’ Oscar Adaway away from our team? Oh no!😱SMU wouldn’t do something like that, right? Well, as I was looking across the field tonight I could sense that powers of covetousness hovering over the SMU bench as Adaway was running thru the Mustangs defense like melted butter thru a Cracker Barrell biscuit. Sorta reminded me of a similar night over at GFord when UNT’s Siggers was doing the same. I am simply not liking what the government & NCAA are doing to what used to be a purely amateur game for most schools.
  18. …until they send one to our campus to recruit one. I hope that becomes an illegal act & damn soon.
  19. Like other 30K’ish crowds at Apogee, it will take a good “day of game walk up ticket sales” to go near or over the top with the attendance. Like many of you, I’ve never really liked the Wing design, but if filled—there’s nothing any finer looking. GMG!
  20. •••(albeit a dated article—still relevant on the eve of a September 3’rd matchup at fabulous Apogee Stadium with a 6:30 pm kickoff). Weather? In the 70’s on a Saturday evening in early September. No excuses now! https://www.dmagazine.com/sports/2021/10/unt-and-smu-are-going-to-share-a-conference-time-to-make-that-rivalry-a-real-thing/ ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
  21. “I WILL FORGIVE NO MAN!” (Sorry, I tend to get the lines confused).😧
  22. A glorious game, Judge Joe. 👍
  23. Methinks this is still a G5 positive. Now if the NCAA will only fix & pull in NIL to some degree. •••Anyone know if the Pioneer Woman ever sets up a tailgate table on “The Hill?” •••Below pic is Ree Drummond driving around Denton & giving her version of the Eagle Claw. She & her daughter drove down from Oklahoma to set up her son Bryce’s dormitory room. GMG!
  24. Did someone post that ESPN’s Keith Olbermann picked North Texas to win over the Stangs or to just cover? Is there a link or video for that? GMG!
