  1. With a 9 win (minimum) team will WB, SL, Matresk & BOR's have some influence with bowl officials? I remember back in the day when Fry had a bowl worthy team when there were only about 12 bowls games how hundreds(?) of us were making calls to Astro-Bluebonnet president Tex Thornton on behalf of North Texas. SUMG has a real funny story about his call to Thornton. Thornton told me he was aware back then of how we traveled impressively to UT-Austin games. We didn't get the invite & I heard from another that Thornton finally quit taking calls & had his secretary screen calls if they were "North Texas State" fans. "Mama (I) tried" (Merle H) GMG!
  2. Superstitious old timers at Texas Tech may also remember last time they hired a 2 year (.500 W/L) Coach from North Texas. Didn't really work out for them, but Jerry Moore did go onto a successful career at Appalachian State.
  3. Would love to see Mason's Locust Grove teammate/receiver Pirtle get some playing time. GMG!
  4. But 2 years of success? We a bit premature here? GMG!
  5. As a kid I went to to my first college FB game at Rice Stadium. It was Jess Neely's Owls vs. John Bridges Baylor Bears. (Neely always wore a brown suit on the sideline). Don Trull was the Baylor QB & Brazosport HS product King Hill I believe was the Rice QB. Anyhow, under the Rice Stadium press box side they had 2 free-standing kiosk with sports merchandise for Rice plus the opponent (Baylor), too. GMG!
  6. Yeah, and one day we are all going to kick the bucket, too, but we don't dwell on that subject. Why does this "O God we're going to lose our HFC" theme persist? It's gotten enough over-kill on this forum that has 14,000(?) members. We are most all astute enough college football fans to know whose hot & whose not. Coaches come--Coaches go. Lets get back to discussing what shade of green we use or the correct letter fonts for our next UNT branding as discussed ad nauseam during the losing years? (just kidding). GMG! ps: I couldn't be more excited for our future football program with just a few in-house organizational tweaks. We also getting our HFC's pay up to put us in a new level of those who apply for our job when at some point we start looking again. ➡️ Except for about 15 Super NCAA FBS football programs the balance of the rest will always have to replace a HFC sometimes.
  7. Wow! What a schedule!
  8. Finally! Someone 20-25 years younger than me that thinks similarly & is thinking "revenue" scheduling. If we don't tie Army into a multi-year home & home, SMU or some other Texas-based G5 school will take care of Army's Texas recruiting needs by scheduling them. And don't think that SMU movers & shakers aren't looking over their shoulders checking out what's going on in Denton--especially last night.. The SMU AD is probably aggressive enough to be making a call to West Point next week. My fellow 70's alum & I had a blast last night! GMG! And a special thanks to our visiting CUSA fans or SMU'er for the red because...only a non-assimilator to Mean Green progress OldDenton type of alum would press the red. Comprende?
  9. What a back-handed slap to North Texas but a nice reward for a team we beat at Apogee Stadium if it plays out this way. We don't need 38,000 traveling Mean Green bowl fans staying home Christmas Week or around New Years Day. me'feared the Beep! Beeps! might get that bowl in our own recruiting back yard. We need to still upgrade our annual recruiting hauls. Our defense has holes in it now because we didn't do that in the recent past. (McCarney era). If its the New Mexico Bowl, I'm sure we'll still get the best of the state of New Mexico's potential UNT recruits at our game, though. (more Baby Boomer sarcasm)
  10. A great day to celebrate for all of us who bleed Mean Green. We never came close to having this kind of atmosphere at Fouts Field...Never! The Wing Zone seemed almost as full as it was for Apogee's Grand Opener vs UH. It was a great night for all Mean Green'ers of every decade. My old college roommate has now become a regular Mean Green fan (again). He and his ex wife, myself (and my ex) were at Fouts for Fry's debut as HFC. We were reminiscing about that Fouts Field game last night as we seemed surrounded by Army fans in Section 208. The Army fans were first class all the way. Even though we've played them a bunch lately, North Texas would be foolish not to continue to schedule Army as a home and home because if we don't---we know someone up the road whose seen our turnstiles success against the Black Knights who will take it away from us and do it themselves. Their dirty playing few will graduate in due time, so we shouldn't get hung up on them. Why burn our barn down just to kill a few dirty mice? Last night was a turnstiles money-making succe$$ for UNT. Still....where can we find just 4,000 more fans out of 800,000 in Denton Country, 119,000 in Denton, 39,000 UNT enrollment and whatever our real DFW alumnus numbers are; that is, 4,000 additional fans to fill out Apogee at games as the one last night ? Large crowds at Apogee make you feel as if we are on the cusp of a true Big Time future (and who knows, maybe in a more high profile conference). Kudos to the UNT Athletic Dept, for teaming up with Coca Cola for their Family Plan promo; 4 tickets for $60 plus food/drink percs. You can't get that kind of entertainment deal at your local movie theatre for a family of 4. I hope we don't kick the can of a serious group promotions program to the next Athletic regime, because we need to solve this problem now. Solving this now (or next Spring/Summer) might be very important for us to in the next NCAA Re-alignment circus & (trust me) that is going to happen. To get those additional 4,000 fans at Apogee, we've still got to jump out of that damn glass jar (or coffee can) as described in the link below. https://morningstoryanddilbert.wordpress.com/2014/11/16/how-high-can-you-jump/ GMG!
  11. Tonight North northwest wind 5 to 15 mph. Layer clothing and light/medium jacket? GMG!
  12. Sure he'd say that until he gets an SEC job offer.
  13. __________________________________________________________ "What the hell, now it's on...................... ?
  14. BYOLC's? (bring you own lawn chairs)? * (a KTCK fan of the Norm Hitzges Dad Joke).
  15. Sumlin is not done as a HFC. He would recall how noisy Apogee can be, too. GMG We'd all like to see SL give us at least 6 consecutive winning seasons, though. GMG!
  16. Some of us on GMG.com last year got labeled as heritics with our excitement of having #6 on our team. Some of us even followed his HS career. MFine is taller than Doug Flutie & last I remember DF had a pretty remarkable career at. Boston College. Some tall QB's play short--some short QB's play tall. 🤔 Tomorrow night #6, #3 & the Triplets are going to give us one helluva' show inside fabulous Apogee Stadium. (Mark that in 3 inch headlines). 😳 GMG!
  17. Agree with the first few games. GMG!
  18. It came from Garron Weeks Twitter page. I'm pretty sure it came from his Smart Phone. If he reads this maybe he could answer your concern?
  19. No weeknight games. 4 pm kickoffs on Saturdays are pretty cool. GMG!
  20. I had a karaoke gig over in Granbury this morning. On the way back to Weatherford I ate at Babes which is a fried chicken eatery off Granbury's courthouse square. I had my Apple SmartPhone out & was listening (again) to NorthTexan95's YouTube version of the above Twitter video. The waitress asked me "who is that?" I told her and she asked, "Can I watch it, too? I said "sure" and after seeing it she said "Man! That gives me goose bumps!" Then the waitress told me: "My cousin is a UNT student now & rooms with a couple other girls in some apartments near UNT." I told her about the Army game & last thing she told me was "I'm giving my cousin a call on my break to see if she can get me a ticket (because she goes to all the football games up there)." I gave her a $5 tip. Didn't the Dalllas Mavs have a promotion campaign at one time that featured the phrase.... ONE FAN AT A TIME? GMG!
  21. One high up alum told me today that moving the UNT students further "walking distance" away from an on-campus varsity BB arena is simply not going to happen for quite awhile if ever. Hell, Wren B. & Staff are trying to finish raising almost $20 million for a state of the art IPF. WB has given us some short term success. We need to cross our fingers that we get almost a decades worth of success in this thing many of you are calling NewDenton before we start canonizing anyone over at the North Texas athletic dept. Our program before WB and SL arrived is a culmination of who we've been hiring for the last 40 years which as much as this & other older messengers hate to say has had few long term success stories at a true NCAA D1 competitive level. We have had a good start (make that "great start") with WB and SL. Just need to hope their progress does not get interrupted by other schools flashing their deep pockets check books. If that happens, we just need to keep hiring clones of both instead waving the white flag like we've done so many other times before in the last 40 plus years as we would also......take 3 giant steps backswards. Think Forward--Then Act Forward (beginning with Varsity Baseball)? Aloha. BEAT ARMY!
  22. Good stuff! 👍👍 RIP, Mr. Stroup.
  23. I know the originator of that video appreciates you doing that, NorthTexan95. I appreciate you doing that for all the world to now see! Go Mean Green!
